Out of my 146 reviews this is only my second one star review. Were this not mid-pandemic, it would be two or three stars. There's no excuse for the lack of COVID precautions. None of the cooks, busser, and two of the three servers were wearing masks. It didn't help that our server was especially chatty and stood over our table for long periods of time without a mask. The food is on-par for similar options in Schuylkill county. Prices are surprisingly steep for the area ($7.00 for an omelet that doesn't include home fries?!) Two people in our party got omelets and the other two french toast - their waffle maker was apparently broken. Ticket times were especially long for the number of people in the restaurant. They forgot my fiancee's order of home fries, and when we finally got them, they were hash browns, not home fries. This place has the potential to be good. Great location, 50s themed decor and music, as well as historic photos of the area. We had a bad experience here under the previous owners, heard it was under new ownership, and decided to give it a try. If the other reviews weren't convincing enough, listen to this one... Do Not Go Here! The food was absolutely awful. Not only bland and tasteless, but also cooked improperly. I asked for my meal to go back on the grill after receiving lukewarm chicken that was still pink in the middle. They chucked it in the microwave and brought it back a minute later. All the other meals were overcooked and more of a jerky then an edible piece of meat. Just stay away. read more

The only positives I can give is the friendly staff and the cleanliness. The food on the other hand is a different story. Buttered toast not only had very little to no butter, but also a small piece of metal. The potatoes.....undercooked any very bland. Why I gave this place three strikes before I stopped coming is beyond me. I mean, how do you screw up breakfast? Understaffed is an understatement. Wait staff running around like crazy. Extremely long waits for service and food. Ordered eggs Benedict twice. Both times the eggs were over-cooked, the onions in my potatoes were green, brown and undercooked, and the food was cold. Wait staff asked me if i wanted a new plate, but I've been around long enough to know what happens in the kitchen when you send food back. I will never be back. I should have read through reviews before we went as there are several clear themes that continue to be repeated by other patrons. On the surface the place looked great, the restaurant was clean and the wait staff we dealt with were very friendly. Unfortunately the food was terrible and the "owners" attitude was that it was acceptable because they aren't a high end restaurant. I have eaten at a lot of diners, one thing you can usually count on is that they know how to cook breakfast. It actually takes some effort to make french toast poorly, but when one piece looks like they slipped a piece of dry toast into the stack and the ones that obviously took an egg bath are dripping raw egg after coming off the griddle you are doing it wrong. Do yourself a favor and skip this place in favor of one of the other diners in the area. read more

3 strikes and the Pottsville Diner is OUT Today, Sunday, June 2nd was our 3rd visit to the Diner. Our 2 previous visits were for dinner and for lunch. Both experiences were horrible. Believe it or not, Frank ordered the exact same thing and each time it was WRONG. He ordered BROWN GRAVY NOT WHITE GRAVY. Our waitress left our table as we were ordering to go talk to another employee that was actually picking his nose. This morning. my ordered hash browns ended up being home fries. My scrambled eggs were flattened eggs cut into square shapes. I did eventually get my hash browns which were a tasteless, greasy mess. Based on the other Yelp reviews I tried to be very careful about my meal selection. I settled on a Monte Cristo sandwich. To my surprise, the food cake our very quickly. I was disappointed to find my sandwich soggy and more chips than sandwich. The French toast part of my Monte Cristo was tastelessness. I've made tastier French toast on my own! Half way through my meal I began to question if the French toast was cooked all the way. Additionally, there was nothing to dip my sandwich in. No syrup or jelly came with it. That added to its tasteless. Not a fan. My husband ordered the haddock sandwich. He said it was extremely dry and asked for tarter sauce. Our experience at the "New" Pottsville Diner is sadly disappointing at best. We had to wait around to be seated, and once we were, we had to wait for a server. We could tell right away that the servers were frustrated with the kitchen staff. Just from the general vibe, we knew we were in for a trying experience. One in our party ordered breakfast. When it came, it looked like the homefries were sitting around in the pan for a long time. Ordered scrambled eggs, received over easy. The plate was not at all appetizing. It looked like the food was flung on the plate hastily. I should have taken a picture. Waitress brought pancakes [we ordered French toast] then came back a few minutes later and swapped out the pancakes. We asked for a medium cooked cheeseburger and received a very well done burger instead. We are not the type to send food back, so we choked down the burger. My husband liked his open faced beef sandwich well enough. Did not receive the cole slaw it supposedly came with. Also, there was a distinct smell of body odor / rancid onion hovering around our table, which did not add to the ambiance or our appetite. To the server's credit, she knew the wait time was exceptionally long and the experience had much to be desired, so she gave us a 10% discount and apologized sincerely. I think she was a little embarrassed to work there. Overall, I would not recommend this place at all. I won't be going back. Honestly if you're in the Pottsville area, check out the Wheel. I come to Pottsville 2-4 times a year and we always eat here at least once on our visit, and I have never, ever, ever, had bad food in all my...20ish years of coming here that I can remember. Today we were waited on as soon as we sat down, our waitress was very friendly and a very sweet old lady with the regular Pennsylvania accent. (To the review that said a non native English speaker, I have never seen anyone NOT American working in this diner, you prob. just couldn't understand the thick accents that some of the people here obtain). I ordered two eggs with sausage and my friend got a cheeseburger. Our food came in less than 8 minutes, it was pipping hot and delicious. It was also less than $15, so very affordable. There were more flies than people in the diner. Food was okay but fairly overpriced for the quality. Service was fine though.

without exaggeration, the worst meal i have ever had. my omelette was severely overcooked and somehow both dry and wet. the cheese on it had a closer consistency to melted plastic than cheese, and also tasted closer to melted plastic than anything resembling food. it coated my mouth with grease that I couldnt wash out of my mouth for hours. i also got a simple plain english muffin, which wasnt so much toasted as it was slightly heated up and drowned in what i can only assume was half a cans worth of spray on faux butter, which was possibly pam cooking spray and not butter at all. it also somehow tasted closer to spoiled pumpernickel bread than an english muffin. who even knows what the steak actually was in my omelette, because it wasnt steak. the flesh of a decaying human body, perhaps. the meat was also colder than the eggs, somehow. the onions were most likely fingernail clippings, because they had no taste at all, and it makes sense here. i would rather have raid bug spray soup, seasoned with ipecac syrup and topped with children's broken teeth than eat there again. my stomach has felt like i ate a raw chicken and urine smoothie for the last 4 hours. i dont think i have food poisoning, because ive had that before, but i wish i did. this just feels like a new disease is forming inside of me and has taken me as a host, tricking my body to not get ill and attempt to vomit it out. i should note that the only thing i could finish was the muffin. i took four bites of the omelette before i couldnt continue. each bite i took felt like a knife being thrust and twisted into my soul, each thrust more deadly than the last. but death would be a welcome end compared to the anguish my stomach, taste buds, and mental health suffered while attempting to eat it. i also had coffee and orange juice. the coffee tasted like what i imagine flint, michigan's water supply tastes like on its worst day. the orange juice MAYBE had pulp in it, but maybe not. i couldnt tell. i couldnt see pulp, but i could feel pulp in my mouth. it also made sunny d taste like simply orange juice. HOWEVER, the waitress was a sweetheart. she was very nice and understanding and charged me only for the muffin, which was the only thing i finished. but perhaps she was a paid actor and did this to create the illusion that she was nice. the possibility that i unwillingly took part in some sort of twisted psychological experiment that was being recorded grows the more i think about it. there were only two other people in the diner other than myself, so its not like the cooks (plural, which i will get to) were swamped or anything. the possibility of an excuse for the state of the food is nonexistent. those two other people in the diner were smiling and having a good time, which only makes me further believe in my experiment theory, because it is simply humanly impossible to form anything resembling a smile after you begin eating there. or perhaps i died, sent to the lowest circle of hell, and that was my introduction to the underworld. either makes more sense than anyone enjoying their time at this diner. i previously mentioned cooks, plural. in response to the distaste i voiced, the waitress yelled back in the kitchen at the cook that his omelette was a chemical weapon (paraphrasing), and he emerged to where i could see him. he looked like if meth had a meth addiction, and wasnt wearing a hairnet or hat. hair was long and sloppy and greasy looking. i now believe that the grease that coated my mouth for hours was from his face or hair. when i complained next about the muffin, a different cook emerged. he was wearing a hat, but im not sure if thats better because it was a old beanie. a few minutes after the second cook went back in the kitchen, the first came back out again, donning the same beanie. so i guess they just share that beanie. i tipped the waitress four dollars on my 2 dollar final bill, not because of her being nice or how it wasnt her fault the food was... whatever it was, but because i felt as though it was a necessary offering to appease whatever demon antichrist reigned over that place. however, this demon most likely feeds on the raped innocence of the diner's victims. i can only hope that it is contempt with the years of my life that were removed, lest we see its wrath. you may find my descriptions of this establishment ridiculous and exaggerated, but i assure you they are not. the memory of this meal is slowly erasing happy memories from my mind as i type this. treat this review as a warning you would find in a horror film, one of impending death and despair. never come here. and if you somehow find yourself at this diner, rip your tongue from your head to save yourself. i am no longer sure if i am dead or alive. heed my warning, please. it is too late for me, but you can still live. just left the pottsville diner. I have never experienced such an infection control nightmare. Approximately 1020am, the cook, who I found out is the manager, is using 4 letter words yelling to the waitresses (f**k). He accused the waitress for breaking eggs that she clearly never touched, as we sat at the counter. what took the cake was when I saw him take an omelette, with his bear hands, and place it on a plate. As a RN Infection Control Preventionist and Director of Nursing, the only thing holding this place up are your front line staff...waitresses. I have been a waitress before becoming a nurse and worked at a famous diner in Manhein (now in Lancaster) and if ever there was a situation like what I, as a customer, experiences today, there would be termination. I have been eating at Pottsville Diner for about 1 year now. I usually get either the Grilled chicken or Roast beef with a baked potato...both are delicious! Homemade meats!!!which are always tender and not dried out. The dinners were reasonably priced and I had enough leftover to take home for dinner. First time at the dinner since they opened up. Very poor service. Waited to be seated which took around 10 minutes. Plenty of empty tables and 8 waitresses standing around talking. That should have been my first clue to leave. Then we ordered our food. It took a half an hour to cook up a turkey platter and fried chicken. When I got my turkey platter it was cold.
