Complimentary Old Fashioned drinks! Ahhhh!
Anthony K.

This is a store for men, with all kinds of men's clothing, accessories, and interesting items, many of which are unique. They have a neat cologne that I haven't seen elsewhere. The only downside, prices are on the higher end for me, but again. You'll find things here that you wouldn't find elsewhere. And speaking of unique, they offer a complimentary "Old Fashion" drink that is perfect! No cost, but please tip. Other drinks are offered as well, the fixings are displayed on the makeshift bar. The main retail part of the store is upstairs, so prepare for the climb, but it's not too bad. I find this a cool place to walk around while the wife is in Jubilee.

So, this place was recommended to me, but I foolishly ignored the recommendation for a long time. When I did stop in, I immediately realized this place has a very cool, very authentic, and very unique feel to it. You'll be immediately greeted by an enormous 48 star American flag, which sets the stage for a club-like experience. We were welcomed by Travis where I learned his story and that of the shop. Locally sourced products blended with some of the finest examples of old fashioned craftsmanship from across the Nation can be found here. Head upstairs to what can best be described as a comfortable, welcoming club room and find unique, well-made products with a masculine look and feel. I picked up a few candles from the candle bar (yep, you read that right), incense cones (look for the one called Desert Sage from the Square Trade Goods Co.), a felt banner, a bundle of Palo Santo wood incense, a concrete ashtray, and a hand forged brass cuff. All of them were selected because they are useful and well made, but you really can't go wrong wIth most anything in this shop. They have done a great job of curating a collection of high quality products from true artisans who care about what they make. It's this kind of authenticity that we need more of in these times in my opinion and Manready Mercantile delivers. Oh, (for those of age) why not shop with an on-the-house Old Fashioned cocktail while you're at it? Indeed, they are gracious hosts here! So, consider checking it out. I think you'll be glad you did.

Brought my friends here for a bachelor party weekend and had to come visit the infamous Manready shop here in the heart of the Heights and was greeted by the super helpful Taylor as she helped us buy candles, make Old Fashioneds and enjoy a glimpse of a true Texas feel of a store. Loved the selection and quality of the t-shirts and the vibe of this place. Today they had a deal on candles, and I picked up their bestselling Bergamot and Teak and also got some of their absolutely amazing Whiskey and Campfire Jerky, which you must try!!

Beautifully curated !!! Really really solid products

This place is just awesome. The entire atmosphere of the store, as well as the items they sell really give it 5 stars. They have some of the most neat items I've seen. Salvaged goods as well as handmade items and artisan brands. Very cool stuff! I'm not even a man, and I love their bags and other neat goods. They make you feel really welcome and comfortable. It almost reminds me of a house with really awesome things for show, except they're for sale! Haha. Definitely one of those places you just need to visit!

I can't say enough great things about this business! Very unique items and a "must visit" place in the Heights. I purchased a Tres Cuervos CenterFire bracelet and a, made on-site, candle. Customer service is second to none, they really take care of and value their customers!

Bought several items over the years here. Friendly staff and interesting items for sale. One of the best looking stores in Houston by far.

I've never been to a place where I wanted at least one of everything. The best part was how nicely wrapped each item was as part of the service when checking out. The store clerk took great care to show the value. The gentleman running the shop was a pleasure. I truly enjoyed the experience. Even gave a chocolate Hersheys kiss in a small bag along with the stores business card. This is customer service at its finest. I would want my operation running as nicely as this beautiful shop. Truly unique items with a variety of sections. Great for gifts.....and splurging on some self items. I saved the receipt purposely to write a review. It took me some time as I visited in September but have thought of the place over a dozen times since visiting. I do not write reviews often but this place deserves a hands down praise. The cashiers name on the receipt is Sysadmin so I am not sure how to thank the amazing clerk. 9/24/24 11:59 AM. I wish they had a shop like this near me. Pleased to see that I can order online! I will never forget this place, forever burned in my memory. If I am ever back in Houston, I will be back at Bliss on 19th! J. Chapter

We came in late (due to the limited parking) so I missed the name of our instructor but she was friendly and knowledgeable. I believe it's about $55-60 per person and each person gets to make two 7oz candles. Personalized touches Include: scent choice and naming the candle. The scents here are great! It was fun exploring all the different notes and profiles. The class is about an hour and everything is provided. As a "student" you get to melt down your wax, smell/ pick your scents, mix scents, pour wax, mix the candle, add your wick, and label your candle. The process is really fast. The longest part is waiting for your candle to cool down/ dry. We were given an estimate between 3.5-4 hours. So plan your day around the area or come in the following day for pick up. Overall, we had a great time and I would recommend this to anyone who is interested. Perfect for solo date, girls night, date night, etc.

The associates are attentive and helpful without hovering, a balance between service and allowing customers to browse comfortably. What I especially appreciate is the atmosphere. Unlike many of the Houston stores that are often crowded with demanding customers, this location maintains a calm, pleasant environment that makes shopping enjoyable. It truly feels like a hidden gem. It's also one of the few BBW stores in Houston that I haven't witnessed the constant, brazen shoplifting that has unfortunately become commonplace in retail and especially in this crime ridden city. Combined with the exceptional merchandise and thoughtfully curated inventory, the River Oaks store offers a refined shopping experience that keeps me coming back. They worked with me and were so gracious in allowing me to make my trade out, and I appreciated it. There was a scent that I wanted that this location ran out of, they were kind enough to call the neighboring store for assistance (their Rice Village location) just minutes away. I first learned about Onata while attending an art market in Houston, where the owners were there selling the candles. The amazing smells of the candles quickly drew me in, and I couldn't leave without buying one of their travel sized candles. I went for the "Isra" scent, and I cannot speak highly enough of it! The owner explained to me that she had gone through trial and error, finding fragrances that are strong enough to fill your home, but gentle enough to not cause headaches or migraines. She was right -- this small candle has filled my office with a sweet, cozy smell for days and no headaches (for once!). I love that they are made entirely of soy and have all-cotton wicks, making them a more natural alternative to what you buy at a store. I am already planning on when I can stop by their shop again to buy a bigger size of the "Isra" and other choices they had available! Support small businesses and support Onata!
