One of the many loose teas they offer. They are phenomenal!

Still very pleased with this place. The quality is unmatched and the service is superior! I will always buy spices from here!!

As a person native born to Houston, but having lived and explored much of the world, one of my favorite things to do is to invite friends to go on a walking tour with me, of the area around the Houston Farmer's Market on Airline. Many years run by the Canino family, as a co-op with local farmers. And when they retired a group of Houstonians, committed to preserving it and making it as nice as possible for shopping. And it's a wonderful place to go shopping for fruits and vegetables and to eat one of the restaurants here. So I usually begin my walking tour with a trip to El Bolillo Bakery to show them the breads and then over to Granel Spices and then to El Rey meat market to show them the chorizo that I like and the freshly made chicharrones and to pointing out the most excellent Mexican restaurant just on the side El Rey. And then heading over to the farmers market proper and showing them the excellent flour tortillas that one can get at Alamo Tamales. A visit to LA Crawfish or other eateries. And also walk and talk about the different uses of the spices and maybe some tropical fruits that people might not be familiar with. It's a great half day and I love taking people around. So definitely plan to visit this area of Airline Drive and have some fun.

Love this little gem. Parking lot is a bit small but you can park on the side streets. Other than that it's my go to for spices.

You can smell the spice from outside the store soon as you walked in you get this heap of pepper right to your mouth or nose you can't help but just kinda cough, when this happens you know they got that spicy stuff! Nice spot very very clean with exceptional helpful service, I was looking for a very spicy rub and I found ghost pepper which ran me about 12$ and Carolina reaper ran me about 18$ this is some of the hottest stuff this ground is hard to find cannot find it anywhere other than spice shops or online. If you're looking for some good spices, herbs, this is the place you wanna come. They do sell it in packages or by the pound they do have an online shop so if you live far, that'll be good for you but whatever you're looking for this placehas. . This place is on the West side of Houston right across the street from the farmers market. You can't miss it..

Such a awesome authentic place. I was looking for certain things hard to find in my area and drove 2 hours just for this place. Amazing customer service, owner very kind and patient helping me. Prices are amazing and such a nice variety! Amazing tea pots for your new buys! Such kind and generous people, keep it local and go try them out!

Great place for spices and fresh whole peppers.... plus a bunch of other stuff like Mexican pottery for cooking and items for healthy and holistic life style. Check it out!

YA'LL!!! I have been wanting to visit this place but it's soooo far from me. I was out and about and seen I was about 20 mins away. I stopped in and I am SO glad I did. Maddy greeted me when I first walked in. She was very sweet, and gave me a compliment on my dress. As I was looking around, Maddy was helping a customer and asked someone else to help, I told her what items I needed. She walked to the back and never came back. Oooh, but then came Angel... Angel got everything that I needed. He was awesome to assist me. He was helpful and worked very efficiently to get me in and out. I can't wait to try the teas I bought. I promise you, they have SUCH A HUGE selection of teas. If you're looking for any tea you can't find anywhere else, I can almost guarantee you they have it here. And the customer service is literally top tier. I can't wait to go back and grab more teas on my list. They are super reasonably priced. Please stop by, you won't regret it. Promise you won't.

    Dandelion Root - 4oz for $15
    Lynn D.

EXCELLENT QUALITY. I was searching for nettle leaves and dandelion root, and I couldn't be happier! After struggling with low-quality, dusty products from Amazon, seeing the herbs in person was a breath of fresh air. The quality is excellent--no broken pieces or fillers. Most herbs are $15 for 4 oz, which is reasonable for the quality. I'll definitely be coming back for more! Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing store!!! I read the reviews and I had to go see it for myself! *A must do in Houston!! This spice store is so well organized, so clean, and the employees are absolutely fantastic! Every section of the entire store is so well packed and organized and labeled, you literally want to buy everything there because you have no questions!! I wish I could give it 10 stars !! Please go visit, I did and bought a few things I needed! They have some amazing things there!! Wow!!! ***esta tienda de especias es increíble, por favor visiten! Tienen empleados que hablan español e inglés. Muy amables!**

I love this place. I brought a friend here for the first time and she couldn't believe it. This time the store was quiet and it smells amazing. All the spices and herbs in one place. Came for blackening seasoning and left with a few other goodies.

Ask the Community - Granel Spice Market

Do they have an online store?

    Nope

Do they sell any type of sage that could be used for cleansing?

Yes, they offer a few varieties of sage for cleansing. When you walk in the store it is located towards the back, left side.

How to prep the teas . For example the skin health tea?

Strainer and hot water poured over the loose leaves.

Do they sale sea moss in its natural form not powdered here?

    They sell it loose, dried.

I called this establishment to find out if they sell organic spices. Apparently it is a non-English speaking establishment. Does anyone know if they sell organic spices?

They are not labeled organic, so I'm unsure.

Amazing cinnamon tea, loads of spiritual items like hoodoo candles, and then of course a huge array of spices.

Houston Flea Market is the definition of "you get what you pay for." It's overcrowded, disorganized, and feels like a maze of the same vendors selling the same cheap imported products over and over. The aisles can be dirty, parking is chaotic, and customer service varies wildly depending on who you're dealing with. Prices aren't always the bargain you'd expect either--many sellers charge close to retail unless you're willing to haggle. The food is one of the better parts, but it isn't enough to make up for the overall experience. If you're hoping to find unique antiques or hidden treasures, you'll probably leave disappointed after digging through piles of low-quality merchandise. Unless you specifically enjoy the flea market atmosphere or know exactly what you're looking for, there are much better ways to spend your time.

We had to order take out on a Friday night because it was 10 mins before closing (9pm on Fridays) and they processed the order incredibly fast. All tables were full when we picked up so I'm sure busy nights will be a bit of a wait to get in. We asked for "medium" spice but the receipt had been defaulted to "mild" thank god. It was still a decent amount of spice and any more I would have probably been sweating like crazy. So I would recommend starting off with mild and go from there unless you are a glutton for punishing spice. Their mild seems to be more like medium / hot at an Americanized Thai joint. Pad Kee Mow with chopped chicken was delicious. Fresh crunchy green beans and bell peppers, onions and tomatoes perfectly cooked with the perfect spicy basil sauce. Noodles all had sauce on them. Large serving size and great price. We also got papaya salad which was just right and nice spice. I wish I could come here often and try everything else on the menu.

There's a sign-in sheet. While we waited, we took a look at their two-aisle mini store, which is in the same room as the restaurant. We bought some interesting snacks and looked at the menus until we were messaged. Once we sat down, we shared fried tofu and chive cakes. They were amazing. The fried tofu was evenly crispy with a soft, piping-hot fluffy inside. (The sauce doesn't contain any fish sauce, since one of us was vegetarian.) The chive cakes were both crispy and mochi-like. I had the Thai iced tea and pompano fish. The staff scared us about the spice level, so we all started off with mild and a small variety of chili sauce, oil, and powder on the side. The ones who changed their minds to mild actually used them. So now we know that if you like medium spicy, go with the second-lowest level. I was fine with mild and ate my whole fish. Loved it. Our waitress was quick, but the kitchen... not so much. We all ended up eating at different times because we didn't want anyone's dishes to get too cold while waiting for the rest to come to the table. By the time my dish came, the first two main dishes were already finished (rice and noodle-based), and the third dish (curry) had already been at the table for a while. I also noticed another table that sat after us got all of their dishes (noodles and rice) before my dish came. The food timing needs some work. If you want a quick meal, I think their rice and noodles are the fastest. But the pompano fish was amazing. If you know how to debone a fish or eat one with bones, get this dish. There's free parking out front and in the grassy lot next to it.

The parking was a bit of a challenge, but it was easy enough because it was a calm Tuesday morning. To get from the parking area to the store, you just take the elevator one level down, and then you're right inside. This place is surprisingly big, filled with all kinds of snacks, cookies, and coffee. The highlight for me was their shawarma breakfast wrap. It was top-notch and exactly what I needed. You choose between whole wheat or white pita, and it's filled with scrambled eggs, your choice of fresh or sautéed spinach, and they add potatoes as well. Then they top it with shawarma chicken, tomato, and a delicious sauce. For $8.5 it was worth every bite. Hands down, a five out of five. I also tried their coffee, which was just a standard brew sitting in ice for hours and nothing special. At $2.50, it was fine, but nothing to write home about. The real stars were the cookies. I got a coconut pecan cookie and an almond crunch cookie, and both were absolutely delicious. I didn't have time to explore the whole store, but there was a great selection of fresh produce, chocolates, and all sorts of small treats. Overall, the staff were really friendly, and the entire visit was smooth. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area. Five out of five stars!

We ended up leaving with the Salva Cremasco (my BF's pick) while I chose a random interesting-looking cheese called Screamer--because sometimes the mystery pick just calls to you. Half the fun here is getting to try cheeses you'd probably never think to bring home otherwise. The Salva Cremasco was surprisingly easy to love. Mild, buttery, and savory in a way that felt approachable rather than intimidating, with a smooth semi-firm texture that got creamier as you ate it. At first, it tasted very clean and milky with a light nuttiness, but the finish had this subtle earthy, almost mushroomy/vegetal note that kept things interesting without ever becoming funky or sharp. It felt like the kind of cheese you accidentally keep cutting "one more slice" of until suddenly... half of it is gone. We were also sold on trying the FLUFF Bake Bar cookies made with goat milk, which honestly felt very on-brand for the whole experience. Dangerous place for impulse purchases--but in the best possible way. What really keeps making this place memorable, though, is the people. I love the knowledgeable and warm welcome we always get from the staff. Even on a visit that barely lasted 15 minutes, they somehow still made the experience feel memorable--like you stopped by to chat with people who genuinely love what they do and want to share it with you.

Their cheeses are displayed in a small fridge, but you can always request varietals ahead of time if you've got something in mind. We bought blue cheese they had on sample (the "Ewe Calf to be Kidding" from Wisconsin, a triple-milk (sheep, cow, and goat)) and the last of their Capricorn Goat Blue cheeses for about $10/piece. Since they rotate out their cheeses weekly, it may become a regular stop on our weekend grocery trips (they mention that many people do that). They also mentioned that their wines rotate out and they have a good relationship with local distributors to understand what pairs well with their cheeses. They also let you start an account so that you can keep a history of all the cheese you buy. You better bet that I signed up. They're celebrating their 20 year anniversary in Houston.
