6 Stars It is possible that Mansour's Oriental Rug Gallery in Sacramento has some of the best handmade area rugs in the nation. I've owned a number of modern, one-of-a-kind, very exotic floor carpets from Tibet and Nepal. Those have been my favorite makes, but I'm always open to learning about new creations and like to have one eye on floor fashion. So, when I moved to Sierra Oaks in 2018, there a mere hundred yards from my house, was Mansour's Sacramento store. I didn't actually go in to buy something new. My Tibetan carpets needed expert cleaning that only a few high-end, very experienced tradesmen know how to do. Handmade wool and silk carpets require delicate work, specialized detergents and tools, with steady hands and eyes to be cleaned harmlessly. It also takes time. You can't just pour Woolite and scrub like synthetic wall-to-wall carpeting. No steam cleaning . . . and no dry cleaning. These are fine Oriental Carpets, man. I first met the store manager, Rebecca, and discussed her inventory, countries of origin and make, my taste and desire to find a new statement in "textile floor art." She and her staff showed me dozens of choices. I was very impressed with Rebecca's business astuteness, professionalism, and keen knowledge of their entire inventory. Though I didn't find anything to buy that day, she scheduled the owner (and her father) Mansour, to come to my house to pick up my Tibetan carpets for cleaning. A few hours later, Mansour and his assistant folded up my carpets and efficiently placed them in the company van. Mansour is a kind, gentle, and extremely observant man who is also a skilled businessman intent on providing outstanding service as much as selling products. What makes Mansour truly exceptional is that like a great art dealer in a gallery, or a diamond merchant at a jewelry boutique, he can ascertain quickly what type of rug will touch his customers. After a few minutes of discussion and seeing my existing taste in Tibetan carpets, Mansour was able to determine what carpets would truly move me. Several weeks later, he personally brought my bright and freshly cleaned Tibetans to my new home in Rancho Cordova, along with brand-new custom-sized mats, and observed the new space. I told him what I envisioned for my new empty spaces and he said he would call me when he had something. A few weeks later, Mansour called and asked to come over to show me two rugs he located in his collection he felt would be perfect for my house. Wow, he could not have been more right-on with every possible detail that I could ever wish for in specialized Oriental Rugs for my home! One small tangent; the word "oriental" has long been considered impolite when discussing people of Asian ethnicity (I happen to be of Asian descent). It may seem that the Oriental Rug industry is mired with an outdated and obsolete moniker. Yet, these types of handmade artisan artworks from Iran (Persia), Afghanistan, India, China, and a few other countries in the Middle East or Asia, may best be described as oriental. Back to the moral of the story: Mansour chooses individual carpets as he would match a pet to an owner, or match something very precious to the exact right soul. He is quite gifted in this regard. He feels so strongly that certain one-of-kind carpets should be with the one-and-only correct person, he is willing to take risks in making the match. Because these new carpets were so expensive, and because I had just tapped out my savings getting a new place, incurring packing-moving-unpacking expenses, and having to replace an engine in my Volvo, I offered to make layaway payments. Mansour did something I have not seen since the 1960's and was exceptionally rare even then. He insisted that I live with and enjoy my two new carpets and "pay him when I can." I was astonished . . . grateful and blown away. How many people in this world would be willing to do something like this? . . . this trusting . . . this generous . . . this honorable? I had a 80 year old Persian rug cleaned and the fringe repaired here. They did a phenomenal job and the customer service was top notch. They have a huge selection of gorgeous rugs. I can definitely recommend this business. read more

I bought 2 very expensive rugs from this man. I spent about $10,000.00 only to find out that they were worthless. My suggestion is that you do your research and look around for the rugs you want. Then, buy them online. I wouldn't recommend that you buy anything from this man, in my opinion. read more

Through the years, we have bought several lovely carpets from Mansour. He is a warm, caring man who listens and has an amazing color memory and sense of dimension. Two examples: When we moved into the new home we built, as past customers, he came by to wish us well. A few weeks later, he called and said he wanted to drop something off. It turned out to be a perfectly-sized circular carpet for beneath the glass table in our kitchen dining alcove with four colored glass table legs and it blended seamlessly with the table and the adjoining open areas of the kitchen and main gathering rooms. He's genius! He laid it, and left, saying "Try it out and let me know what you think." Of course, we bought it happily but there was truly no obligation and no pushing. IF we didn't like it, he would come and get it and that's it. Another epic find was the 7' x 11' carpet he found for our entry--right before a grand "no gifts" birthday party/house warming. "But Mansour, we are having a hundred people over and it will get dirty! You can't leave this here to try out." It was another perfect find and "nothing to worry about a little foot traffic." We decided to give our sons the two large Persian rugs their father got from their grandfather, (necessitating two more of Mansour's beauties) we took them to Mansour for TLC because the oldest son had nearly vacuumed the fringe off one of them. After cleaning and some fringe repair, these look new again--although they are over 80 years old! For Christmas, they each chose identically wrapped gifts and inside was a color written on a card--"red" in one and "blue" in the other. Each son got what he wanted. Magic! Forty years ago, I wasn't that "sold" on the concept of needing to buy a carpet that will last long after I'm done with it, but I am now. If you are ever interested in learning about why a quality carpet is worth the price, or about the beauty and durability of hand woven carpets, go see Mansour. And if you want something special--let him try something out on you. He's a master at finding just what you want/need. Oriental rugs are part of our family tradition. They can be expensive and finding handmade quality rugs is difficult. Mansour and his daughter Rebecca have the experience & knowledge to help navigate the process. After a brief and very interesting tutorial in how these rugs are made, I found my favorite to be Afghanistan which are hand made in small villages by one family taking 8-12 months to complete. Natural dyes give these beautiful rugs stunning color, especially reds. And I find the tribal designs to be much more interesting than the machine loommed rugs from India which tend to be too busy for my taste. So far I've purchased 1 Indian, 2 Afghanistan and 1 Turkish from Mansour. The best way to describe Mansour is that his sprit is bright & contagious !! Bill Conlan read more

We took in our family heirloom rug to put loops on the back so that we could hang it on the wall. The rug is over 100 years old and appraised for thousands of dollars. They told us it was a simple removable stitch for the loops. When we got the rug back, we saw that the loops were glued onto the back of the rug, and one of the loops ripped a small tear in the back of the rug. I told him gluing was never discussed and we are quite upset that our family rug is glued and ripped. I requested a refund. He responded by saying that "I didn't take you for those kind of people to try and get free things." They eventually agreed to the refund, but the damage is done. read more

My mother brought Monseure a carpet 20 years ago to put new fringe on it. He did a wonderful job. I brought him the same carpet and asked him to put the same fringe on the other side and not only is it an inch shorter and a completely different style, it is stained three different colors and it has already fallen apart. I took it back to him and asked him to fix it when he first made the repair and he told me that it was fine and that he would not fix it. He said that he used what he had lying around. With him, everything is great until something goes wrong and then you're on your own. read more

Mansour's Gallery has the best selection of handmade rugs in the Sacramento area. I first used Mansour's Gallery when my 30 year old rug needed repairs to a section that was damaged by moths. His staff repaired the rug by hand and I couldn't tell the rug had been repaired. Since then, I have purchased four rugs from Mansour - two which were very difficult sizes. He not only found a rug that fit the rooms, but also had the design, colors and quality to my liking. Mansour's ability to find unique rugs that show case your home is truly amazing. I have been looking at the website for a few weeks now, knowing that I would need a carpet when I get my new wood floors installed. Went to the store today and Hassan (I think that his his name) waited on me. He was so polite when I told him what I wanted and how much to spend. He said it wouldn't be possible but did look at carpets for me. I decided to go down a size and found what I wanted. I also purchased a rug that I saw online and knew that I wouldn't leave the store without it. He explained why I need a pad under the rugs and set me up with two pads. I have known Mansour for many years since he opened his first store in Old Sacramento. We have bought many rugs from him, both for ourselves and as wedding gifts for our children.
