We had tried Maoz falafel in Paris and we had loved it so I was pretty excited to see Maoz in Barcelona and we made it a point to go here. What's not to love? Fresh falafel balls, great pita and fresh, unlimited toppings and sauces!! The falafel balls were fried right when we ordered and the sauce options here are awesome. There was a mango sauce (amba) which was sweet and spicy like a mango chutney we get in India. The aioli, tahini and yogurt sauces were great. For the toppings, i loved the spicy green chutney, cole slaw, onions, chickpeas, tomatoes, peppers and multiple other toppings. The only downside is the seating available. There are 3 tables and very limited seating. The whole point of unlimited toppings is to sit here and add more toppings as you eat. Some people were standing outside with falafel but eating falafel is messy and it would be good to have more space. read more

The menu was straightforward and easy to a non-Spanish speaking tourist to understand. There were two options of falafel-- one served in bread and one served in a plate. I chose the former way since I prefer the more traditional way of consuming falafel. My server heaped the falafel in the bread along with some optional hummus and shredded lettuce pieces and afterwards handed me the unfinished falafel sandwich to allow me to choose between a variety of toppings to heap on. I recommend the deep fried cauliflower and the soft carrots as toppings, along with their saucier toppings which will add a sweet, tangy taste to your meal. I enjoyed the taste. The vegetable toppings were fresh, the sauces tasty, and the bread of a soft roughness that was a perfect complement to the ingredients inside. Oh my gosh. This is a must try when in Barcelona. It's super close to las ramblas and the cathedral so this is the perfect place to stop by. Their shop is quite small, fitting up to less than 10 people comfortably. You are given the choice of a falafel wrap or salad and it's up to you to put on as many toppings you like. I got the wrap which is essentially a large pita with 5 large falafels. They literally fry the falafel to order so when I hit into it, it was so crispy yet soft and flavorful. There are sooo many toppings to choose from. The best thing about this place is you can stay in the restaurant and keep piling up the toppings as you're eating. I died a little when I went for the marinated cauliflowers, chickpeas, cold slaw, and the aioli sauce. For like ~5 euros, I finished my wrap feeling super full. Delicious! A great spot for some fresh made falafel! There are plenty of topping options and everything is fresh. There are about 6 sauce choices, which is awesome. The only downside is there is barely any seating and the store is very small. Also, the toppings are self serve, so you'll be grabbing spoons that dozens of others have before you. This place is perfect for when you do not have time to dine until late and want something quick, healthier and filling. Yes they do only offer a falafel, salad or potato fries, but this narrow selection ensures rapidness while maintaining the freshness and taste. Plus, you can top your falafel with as many toppings as you can fit onto it! And all for a very good price. The salad toppings were fresh even later in the day and were all refilled. There were a few days left in BCN, & there was serious shopping to be done. I thought I'd try saving some € by spending less on food. I'd been wanting to try Maoz Falafel since reading the reviews here, so I made my way there in the morning, before doing my shopping. I found myself standing in front of the food joint at around 9:50AM, waiting for Maoz to open. This woman came & unlocked the door, & told me they wouldn't be open until 11 AM. Oh. I really, really wanted to try the food here, so I went back at around 11:30AM after doing some shopping. I saw these girls standing outside, having a cig. I went in & they followed suit, sat themselves at 1 of the 2 tables. There was also a family there (2 boys, & dad), so both tables were taken. Luckily, as it turned out, the family was on their way to the airport to catch their flight (I know this because the dad kept saying "our chips!" & had an argument with the Maoz guy, & while all this was going on, the dad with the unibrow kept getting olives directly from the tray & leaving the seeds on the counter.....srsly dude..), & so 1 of the 2 tables was free for me to grab. I placed my collapsible shopping bag there to "reserve" my seat. Hehe. If you're going to eat at Maoz & want their salad buffet, you're gonna need to eat in. I ordered the falafel with salad buffet + a soda & paid I think €5+ for everything. I refilled my bowl with sides & sauces a couple of times. I was stuffed, & didn't feel hungry until the following day. Thanks to Maoz, there was 1 day that I spent only around €5 for food in BCN. Phenomenal. Only at Maoz. More € for shopping. Hehe. Note: the falafel with salad comes with greens, & a single (small) falafel. I'm reading reviews from another reviews site, & someone said she got 3 falafels. So I dunno. The sides are the ones you can get as much as you want of, & they are so delicious that you wouldn't know which one to get. I really like Maoz from visiting it in other countries and at its previous location in Barcelona. This one, sadly, was disappointing compared to my other experiences. Having just come from Amsterdam a few days prior where the fries can come with curry sauce (YUM), I was heartbroken to see that isn't an option here. I could tell that the fries I got were the day-old ones probably lurking at the bottom of the trough. They were kinda soggy, kinda chewy, and very blah. I didn't know fries were capable of tasting bad! Also, the olives aren't pitted. Whyyyyyyyy. You may as well put plastic bits in the food. I'm going to start this off by saying that I don't really like falafel, so I didn't eat my falafel at all, and if I had gone back, I probably would have asked for no falafel, so it wouldn't take up space in my pita. You have two options, a falafel pita, or a falafel bowl, with or without fries I think. You can pay extra to add feta cheese or some strange looking guacamole (we didn't). Then, there's this salad bar type thing with sort of like a smorgasbord of every appetizer from your typical So. Cal Mediterranean restaurant, and let's see if memory serves me: those little lebanese pickles fried cauliflower (yum) some kind of rice salad (yum) sundried tomatoes regular tomatoes olives (yum) garbanzo salad (extra yum) some kind of olive spread (not like tapenade though) marinated carrots mushrooms hummus yogurt sauce tahini I can't remember anything else, but there was tons of stuff, and the only thing I wasn't interested in was the falafel itself. You can put any and all of this into your pita (or bowl) and it was all so good. So you can see why I regretted wasting space with the falafel, when I could have just had some extra fried cauliflower instead. I wish we'd had time to go back. I passed another location in BCN and one in Madrid. I just looked online and they DO exist in the US! Come to LA, damn it! read more

We are strict vegetarians from India. Have been in Barcelona since 2 weeks and looking for a good vegetarian place to eat. Came to know about Maoz on Yelp and went their yesterday. We were overjoyed to get such excellent falafal with lots of vegetables, many of vegetables were seasoned and pickled just like in India. We opted for falafal in pita bread and it was such great value for money. You can refill any number of times for less thsn 6 euros.One suggestion, you can ask them to give less number of falfal in your dish so that you can eat more vegetables topped with their delicious sauces. read more

Any time I visit Barcelona I have to have lunch at Maoz. Great location just off the Ramblas, and with very friendly staff. Everything cooked fresh to order and a decent range of salad available. The most delicious felafel. Very limited amount of seating, though when your food is ready there will probably be a spot free if you don't mind sharing a table. Probably the thing I will miss the most about my trip to Amsterdam! The falafel was stunning, and the subway- esque filling process makes it so much easier and nicer because you can customise it yourself. The home made chips are also amazing. I would recommend for everyone to go here even once- it's affordable, the staff are lovely and accommodating, it's filling and delicious- plus all of the ingredients are vegan which amazed me. I've been vegan for over 6 months now and it's taken me this long to find something as mouthwatering as the food here. My mum who is not vegan also ate here and loved it equally. As non-meat eaters, we were so happy to discover this little place. It was fantastic for meals on-the-go. It's tiny and can be hard to find seating, and even if you do get a seat, it's not the place to linger/have a long meal. Since we only had a short time in Barcelona and wanted to get to as many sites as possible anyway, this wasn't a deterrent.
