!!WORST INSURANCE EVER!! PLEASE AVOIDE!! So I've had these guys for a couple years now and have had no issues. Until the other week. I recently got a new car and sold the other one. So in doing so I had to drop my insurance on my other vehicle and get insurance on my new one. Well I asked for full coverage and i was told their computers were down and I'd receive a follow up call the next day with a quote. NEVER GOT ONE. Then I received my insurance cards in the mail so I figured they did everything I asked. Then just the other week I woke up to a text message saying I had $350 taken from my account by my insurance. I'm only 26. That money is needed for my other bills and rent. So basically they screwed me. I've had to borrow money and all of this has happened because THIS COMPANY WAS TOO INCOMPETENT TO DO A FOLLOW UP CALL WITH A QUOTE... Instead they think it's a good business practice to tell you they can't give you a quote when you call them and then they just go ahead and take a ridiculous amount of money from you without a VERBAL AGREEMENT. Also it's been a full week and I haven't seen a refund. AND THEY LEGALLY OWE ME ONE SINCE I CHANGED INSURANCE COMPANIES THE SAME DAY AS THIS BS TRANSACTION. I was told so by my new insurance company. their inspector determined I needed some home repairs and delayed telling me about the requirement that I fix them on their schedule till nearly mid-winter. Finding a reputable Contractor to work on exterior repairs in the winter in the northeast is nearly impossible and cost prohibitive thus I was not able to get any work started till spring and when the repairs took longer than expected they dumped me. To add insult to injury they won't re-instate or rewrite the policy because of the gap in coverage caused by their policy. I have had my auto insurance through them for more than 20 years. No loyalty for long standing customers! I will be taking my business elsewhere. Addendum: They Contacted Me after my review. they did not refute any of my statements. Their statements to me leave me feeling even more so that they have no loyalty to long-standing clients. While they are within their rights to not do business with me. I have the same rights. This is a horrible insurance company, I do not know why I went with them lesson learned. My policy covered windshield replacement, that I was being charged for. When they had to replace my windshield, they raised my policy rate by 36 dollars a month. When my insurance was renewed, they misquoted me and after I had paid, they sent me s letter a week later stating that I was misquoted and had to pay the differenceryig or have my insurance cancelled. When it's their fault you pay, also they hire the worst people to do work on your car. My windshield leaks air when you go down the road, they broke the molding and they won't make it right, but when they want their money, that is a different story. Mapfre is refusing to send funds for car seats that require replacement after an accident with their policy holder who hit me and my child. I have provided receipts, photos and user manual that expressly state that replacement is necessary. This is unethical. Do not use this company. read more

Horrible. Wish I didn't switch insurances to them. I was victim of a hit and run and spoke with my adjuster. After I got my estimate I questioned why the damage to the back of my vehicle was not on the estimate. My adjuster then replied I would have to make an ADDITIONAL claim for damage to the back and that he directed me to the another department after first our phone conversation to set that up(which is a big lie because he did not do that- but he played it out like I didn't do something) Not to mention, I had to reach out to my adjuster after going on almost 5 days from when the claim was submitted; finally returned my call 10-15minutes before the end of his shift. Be very careful with MAPFRE. If you have a person that they think lives at your address they can add the person to your policy without your consent and send you a bill with a higher premium if their experience rating warrants it. Sounds illegal but apparently they feel they have the legal right to do so. This happened to me and when i told them that the person does not live there they told me to prove it. I have no control over the person and cannot tell them to go to a courthouse as they requested and testify under oath. It is an easy problem to fix and just pull my cars and house insurance and tell them to go pound sand. I thought for sure that when i attested to the fact the person does not live there and they do nto have to pay any claim for the person that it would be enough. Be very careful and check the bill to see if they add any additional drivers on your policy. read more

Its been over 5 weeks I was hit by a deer on 12-02-2017 My BMW 3 series was deemed a total loss. Myself , my coworker & My Agent have left over 7 messages since last Friday1-5-2018. The total loss settlement sucked to say the least. I have exhausted my rental car limits & still have not received a courtesy phone call or settlement!!! They refuse to compensate me on my brand new tires with only 5K miles on them paid almost $600.00 in April 2017, the reason being that were not purchased within six months. I have been with this company since march I've made my monthly payments on time recently transferred banks and let my broker know over the weekend on September 24, 2016 THE DAY my payment was DUE and said he couldn't do anything until Monday so Monday comes and i don't hear anything back so i followed up with my banker on the 29th and said the bank declined my charges of course that account is closed now today i had to pay $60 EXTRA FOR BANK Closure since they didn't receive their money which i stated above tried applying on its due date. read more

This is probably one of the worst insurances. They have horrible customer service and the supervisor are even worse. Talked to Brian, the supervisor, about an issue and he said he fixed our problem then had the same problem the very next day so I called him again he said he would return my call then never did. I called him all week and what did he do, nothing, because everyone would tell me he was not at his desk so never had a chance to talk to him again. Luckily the department of insurances takes these issues very seriously and will not stand for thievery. Just bad, recently my wife was hit by another driver , not much damage at all but had to file the claim. The body shop we chose was good and had our car ready in a week, but Mapfre did not pay the claim on time and due to this we could not get our car and in fact had a rental car for an extra 9 days before Mapfre would pay the claim so we could get our car. To me this is very sloppy business, and an extreme mismanagement of money. And, of course, it's the consumer that has to ultimately pay for this. I had the unfortunate experience to speak with a claims adjustor named Michael Gallante. I called because I had questions about a claim and the adjustor that I had spoken with earlier could not be found. Mr Gallante's tone was immediately abrasive and argumentative. He seemed put out that a policy holder would bother him at work. I thought that insurance companies were there to help you when you need them in exchange for the thousands of dollars that they charge you! Perhaps Mr Gallante should remember that his salary is paid for by the policy holders and that should ensure a modicum of civility on the phone. He is badly in need of training in the field of Customer Service. He reflects poorly on this company and its commitment to its customers. read more

one word to describe: WORST. be more specific, worst company to work with. I know better about the company until both my cars were hit by other drivers, one after another, all at other drivers' fault. I filed a claim for one of the car hit by uninsured driver in the parking lot. The adjuster assigned is simply not responsive. Only got one change to talk over the phone within about 10 days after the accidents. Got a change to find her email, and her email reply, if any, typically happens at the end of the day, or next day. After about 10 days, only one thing was completed: appraisal at the 7th days, as I filed claim against MAPFRE (which is my own insurance company) to use collision first. Will be out of country for a few weeks. So my car will perhaps be sent to a repair shop after a month. Another car was rear-ended on the freeway just one day earlier. The appraisal is less than my deductible. I filed claim again my own MAPFRE, I would bet they do not care, even though it is the other party's fault. Now, I have no update, nor able to get any update from the adjuster at all. The good thing is that I found out directly from the other insurance company they are waiting for my submit for claim. read more

I have full coverage plus gap insurance and it has been a nightmare dealing with this company.I wished I went through a different insurance agency. Each time I call back for an update they ask the same questions over and over again and neither of them can seem to give me answers and instead of worrying about my current vehicle they have been pushing me to add people to my policy who are not household members and frequent drivers of my vehicle. If I could give negative stars I would. This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. My car was parked in a parking space and was smashed up by another driver. My car was parked! This happened on July 27. I was without a car for over a month and half. The appraiser went back and forth with my auto body shop and low balled the amount 2 to 3 times. He originally said 4 grand worth of damage then it ended up being 10 grand worth of damage! All this time is going by with me stuck in a rental car because I have to get to work and live my life. I finally get the car back the other day in late September and the insurance company is telling me they won't give me an extension on my rental! They want to make me pay for the 9 days over my policy. Are you kidding me?! Go after the other insurance company of the driver who was at fault. Why go after me the victim in this whole situation...I pay my bill on time in full every month...but when it comes time for the insurance company to help you out they end up screwing you! Not my fault it took so long to fix the car...that tells me there was more damage than the appraiser originally thought and therefore an extension would be valid. Do not ever do business with this company you have been warned. Imagine if I were at fault...they probably would've made me pay for the entire thing! And my car was just parked in a parking spot. Again...if you have this company get out and find a different one...if you are thinking of using them do not! Planning on hiring a public adjuster to deal with Commerce. After the winter storms my house had serious ice dam issues and my roof is cracked. trying to deal with the adjusters and they refuse to help. We have 2 contractors quotes at 70K and commerce is giving us $16K. Do not use them -- I have 2 small children and worry about their health and mold growing in our walls. Awesome company.... They go above and beyond for clients and really seem to know the importance of customer service. My family owns an insurance brokerage firm in MA and has been involved in insurance for over 40 years and has written many different companies throughout the years. With that being said, out of all of the insurance companies in MA I would have to say that Commerce is the best. People do not realize that Commerce has to be doing something right when they write over 35% of the market in MA and call MA their home-state! What is funny is that people do not understand insurance at all and so many times they blame things on Commerce Insurance as a company when it is really the fault and/or responsibility of their AGENT who writes the policy for them through Commerce. See Commerce is in MASSACHUSETTS and MA is one of the most agent friendly states, plus Commerce relies heavily upon their agency system as they are NOT a direct writer. If you have issues then your AGENT should address them - Especially things like address changes and such that I have seen here on this YELP page. Please note that if you change your address with the RMV it doesn't mean that it will automatically change with Commerce... Also, if it takes 2 weeks for the insurance company to send you a check for your claim (which is very reasonable to say the least) it is because you do not take your vehicle to get inspected by a MA licensed appraiser right away and you do not complete the appropriate MV Operators Crash Report and necessary info that the company needs to do their investigation - Companies do not just throw money out the door! Needless to say, if you have an issue with a claim you call your insurance agent and employ them to fight for you & stand up for you and use their lasting relationship with Commerce to help you... So many people are just absolutely stupid and brain dead when it comes to insurance - with all honestly it isn't the easiest concept to grasp for all - and really need to make sure that they deal with a good refutable insurance agent who explains things well and is there for them when they need help. read more

I purchased this insurance and and when I got to Mexico, I had a medical issue and the doctor who treated me said he accepted cash only and now I know why. This all happened on Dec 05,2017. When I returned in a week, I filed a claim with Mapfre and they have been giving me the run around every since. After reading a number of the very poor reviews that Mapfree American Commerce has received, I can only agree. They are the worst. It's been an 8 month battle, I feel my claims representative has never been helpful. It seems her goal is to presents hoop after hoop for me to jump through. I have never spoken to her that I haven't felt demeaned by her sarcastic and uncaring attitude. Mapfree dips into my bank account promptly on the first of the month for their premium, but when it's their turn to come through the battle is on. This is BY FAR the worst auto insurance I've had in my 12 years of driving. I went with Commerce because the VW dealership where I leased my car set up registration and insurance on my vehicle. My rates have been raised significantly every year (20% year one, 25% year two). I had a glass claim for when my window was broken during a break-in back last year and then an accident this past August. Hey, wait....Did I just say August? Like four months ago? Yes...yes, I did. So you must be thinking..."all is well and the car is fixed!". Um, no. I have been without a car for FOUR MONTHS. Commerce has cut a check, sent it to an address I haven't lived at for a year (but sends my bills to the correct address conveniently), says they cut me a new check but didn't until I called to harass, etc. I'm also being cut a check for maybe 10% of the damage to my car. Seriously, this is a freaking NIGHTMARE. I've easily spent hours on the phone (and their hours are 9 to 4 Monday through Friday which couldn't be more inconvenient) trying to get this done. I'm ready to pay a good $5k in cash to get my car back at this point. And that's sad when I'm dishing out tons of cash for the policy every year. STAY AWAY. read more

I had house damage during a declared state of emergency (blizzard). Despite it being declared a national emergency situation, and federally funded, MAPFRE pocketed federal funds (as best as I can tell) and would not pay back the full cost. Worse, to prevent ice / water damage again, I put in a commercial grade rubber membrane roof. MAPFRE said they would not pay for it. Then in the end when they were asked to pony up money to reimburse for the kitchen and other rooms that had to be redone, they would not pay unless I had a commercial roof put in. Still, they would not pay for the rubber membrane roof. Nor repairs to the soffits. After it all, they threatened to discontinue our insurance. Disrespectful under the veil of just being professional. I called and reported a claim after the passing of my father, on his vehicle. MAPFRE did not document the claim, although claimed they did. They were advised not to get in touch with my mother - as she was grieving, obviously. MAPFRE not only tried to get in touch with my deceased father, but had the gall to tell my mother in a chat with them to have a wonderful day. When mom reminded them of the conversation and that she had just lost her husband of 49 years, the woman stated that she could still have a wonderful day. They called and asked for my father and called him a she, as if you can't see the names on the account that you are calling about. My parents names were not one's that could be confused as unisex names, in other words they were not named "Pat". There should have been no confusion - and since I called about it, there was no reason to deal with anyone but me. Once I escalated this to management - they were pleasant but not kind and not thoughtful, like the rest of the organization. The AVP who I ended up being routed to after calling the CEO's office - as no one would escalate - was shrewd, pleasant but was not going to budge on what I needed or wanted. She didn't understand that 15 hours of my time was unacceptable on this issue, and she was adding to it. Do not use. read more

This is an absolute terrible insurance company.. heres a story for you all. October of 2019 i left my car parked and came back and the front was smashed. i call the police and get a police report. I wait till the reports available to me and i send it in as well as a call to my lovely insurance company. So the agent was givong my a hard time trying to say i was lying or making up a story. So she told me with a hit and run you obviously go through an investigation. Secondly,I had two appraisers come to my house, one who inspected my whole car. Judging the whole cars damages from back bumper to passenger doors and not the specific damages from the accident in question(my front bumper and enging!). So then i had a second appraiser come to my house, a crash expert and he asked me alot of questions about the vehicle and accident. Then i sent him my pictures from the scene of the accicdent and he sent it over to my agent who is covering my case. From novemver 28, when he sent it in. I called her days later December 6th wondering wheres my finished case. She says she doesnt have it. So we call the crash expert again and asked for another copy of the report. And now today is december 18th. I just called her and now shes saying she recieved an email from him, not telling me from what date. But now shes saying it wont sync. Tomorrow hppefully i can get some answers and leave this crap insurance. THEY OVER PRICE ANYWAY! read more

Absolutely horrible insurance! Service to claims are ridiculously slow! I am so thankful for my reputable insurance that I carry and would never recommend this company to anyone. My daughter was involved in an accident where Mapfre's insured driver hit the car behind her forcing that car into her and her car into the one in front of her, Total loss on her car! It was a week before they even went out to appraise the vehicle. They took advantage of her youth by offering about $1000 less than what her car should of been valued at. Sent her the release form over night, which she against my advice signed and sent back. Another week has passed and they now will not send her the settlement on the vehicle even though the release form has been signed and sent to them promptly. I wish I could score it negative 5 star because it is that horrible of a company to deal with! I was hit by someone carrying commerce insurance, not only did commerce make no effort to assist me with my claim in any way, I had to do all the leg work and in the end, they denied my claim and refused to fix my car because the guy who hit me was in his "grace period" of switching plates to a new car and "never reported the car to them". It didn't matter that I had two police reports stating that this guy had a bill of sale and was legally under his grace period. Terrible service, I have friends who are even considering dropping this company because of this. read more

I have to agree with the critical reviews here. This company was very unhelpful to us. My wife had 30 years of a clean driving record, had a small fender bender, and the other driver had Commerce assess and they charged over $2000 for minor scratches. This made it a "serious car accident", leading to points on the driving record. We contacted them, sent them pictures, followed all the rules, went to a hearing with a state attorney, who seemed very friendly to the Commerce representative. They wouldn't budge. Essentially, they don't care how you feel and they won't listen to you and they'll get you points on your record to get their money back for inflated and unfair damage assessments in minor accidents. They are huge in Massachusetts. The best thing you can do is to avoid them. I'm paying higher rates to go with someone else so they don't have my business, and I managed to trade off the increased auto rate with lower house rates with Arbella. I have Commerce Insurance for my home and my autos, and I have had the misfortune of making claims on both policies. They were very good to me, and I couldn't be happier with their service. Someone hit my car from behind, and I didn't have a hassle, or have to pay my deductible. The other driver was considered automatically at fault, and Commerce paid for 100% of my damages. My house was robbed, and they gave me the money to replace everything that taken with brand new items. No depreciation! I have heard that companies will do that with claims, and was expecting it, but Commerce treated me with respect. I'll never leave them! read more

They also try to get away with low balling their repair estimates by replacing items with low cost crap that doesn't have the same options like my mirror with memory and heat, they tried to replace it with a regular mirror.
