On our last day in Minneapolis I happen to notice that we'd be able to attend this Sunday event. Farmers Markets in California all range in size so I didn't really know what to expect for this one - holy cow! It was huge and lots of different local things. They had Minnesota grown produce, handmade products, fresh flowers, baked good and so much more. I was introduced to Ty's Gingseng (https://www.tysginseng.com/) who grows and sells 6 year old ginseng powder - which is very high quality. I also bought relish from Red Ron's as well as some sausage links from another vendor. To be honest I probably could have spent at least 1.5 hours here if I wanted to really study all the booths and check everything out, but we had brunch plans and needed to depart within 45 mins. Kalisch Family Farms has a loyal customer in me, now!! They are a local farmer that does everything…read morenaturally and organically. The best part is that they deliver to the metro area every week. That is so cool. I hate grocery shopping and get so disgusted with the poor quality of meats, filled with antibiotics and hormones. Same with milk. Now I get raw milk and grass fed beef. Not only does it taste much better, it is actually cheaper than the organic meats at Cub Foods. I tell all my friends about them because I am ecstatic that I now have a source for raw milk. We are lucky in Minnesota that we are able to get access to it. I give it to my dogs, too, and they juts go bonkers over it. My recommendation: try a gallon of raw milk, and get either ribeye or t-bone steak for your first order (and ground beef if you want). Cook up the steak and just take a bite without any steak sauce at first... just taste the pure meat... YUM!!! And with the milk, shake the bottle first (the cream settles at the top). Then, when you are done shaking it, drink a glass of cool REAL milk from a certified organic dairy farm. You won't ever want to go back to store bought milk!!!

To avoid confusion -- this is the Anoka County Grower's Association market that's been around for well over 30 years, not the new indoor market at the Town Square. Today was the first day so there were only 4 vendors and no fruits or veggies yet. There was a baker, a large greenhouse selling various potted plants, a dog treat person, and the president of the association himself...selling organic creams, salves, insect repellents, deodorants, balms, etc. No produce yet. I bought some classic peanut butter treats for my big doggy. And I purchased some homemade strawberry jam for my kid. I also had some great conversations with the vendors. It's open every Monday afternoon during the growing season. It's also conveniently located in the parking lot adjacent to Main Street in downtown Anoka. There weren't a lot of vendors but I think things will pickup as the season continues and as harvesting progresses. I recognized the bakery & jam lady from the Blaine market. There's no entry fee. There are plenty of areas staged for cute fall photos and a playground area for kiddos with a sandbox. For minimal fees, they offer: apple picking, train rides, and informational tractor rides that provide information about the farm's establishment. There's also a store on site with all sorts of canned goods and tasty baked apple treats. The ambiance was so lovely- relaxed without crowds of people, plenty of parking and beautiful color-changing leaves to appreciate. We enjoyed our visit to Sunrise River and are looking forward to it being an annual family tradition.

They also have bags already prepared if you don't want to pick your own. They have yard games, hayrides but my favorite is the big barn where you can pet the animals. They had donkeys, sheep, baby kittens and bunnies. The store has caramel apples, tons of different homemade jams and salsas, apple cider donuts and other baked goods! They even had life music when I went this past weekend. Parking is super easy. The apple orchard is open Sept-Oct 10am-6pm
