On our last day in Minneapolis I happen to notice that we'd be able to attend this Sunday event. Farmers Markets in California all range in size so I didn't really know what to expect for this one - holy cow! It was huge and lots of different local things. They had Minnesota grown produce, handmade products, fresh flowers, baked good and so much more. I was introduced to Ty's Gingseng (https://www.tysginseng.com/) who grows and sells 6 year old ginseng powder - which is very high quality. I also bought relish from Red Ron's as well as some sausage links from another vendor. To be honest I probably could have spent at least 1.5 hours here if I wanted to really study all the booths and check everything out, but we had brunch plans and needed to depart within 45 mins. Being a MN native, I haven't been back to the farmers market in awhile and I must change that!…read more I recently went the other weekend and it was such a great way to start my weekend morning with clothes, food, flowers, produce and the list goes on! Being able to support the community and get such staple items made my heart full. It probably wasn't the wisest choice getting hot soup on a hot day but it was so delicious. There was live music, went into the walk in cooler to take a break from the sun and went back to it. Every vendor was very nice and welcoming, got some treats for my dogs, a freshly made slush coffee, and some hot dogs to end the walk around. I can't wait to come back to grab more fruits and veggies and flowers!

As October approaches, look for pumpkins and gourds, the opening of the corn maze, and the spooky fun decorations. Now the watermelons, cabbage, cantaloupe (my favorite is the cute little sugar cube), and fall root veggies are abundant. As is sweet corn, pickling cukes, and more. Stop in before they close for the season in November!

Plenty of tomatoes, corn, beans, etc. There are larger markets of course but this is convenient and you can park for free 20 feet from the stalls There is a really good Hmong farm table with lots of produce. And they are also selling egg rolls! Both turkey and vegetarian options. I recommend you get them to go as they needed to be rewarmed. Very good and it comes with a dipping sauce. All this market lacks is bread supplier. There was a small bakery stall selling rolls but they were already sold out by the time we arrived. If you live in the Western suburbs there is no reason to drive far for fresh produce. The market is Saturdays only from 9 to 1.

The prices are higher than I'd expect: $4 for a tray holding maybe a pound and a half of tomatoes - not special heirloom varieties, but just regular beefsteak, roma or cherry tomatoes. Some tables offered herbicide/pesticide free produce (but is that even noteworthy these days?). This is so small it's more of a farmstand than a farmers' market, but it's still nice to browse if you're into that kind of thing. There was one meat purveyor, one stand for Great Harvest Bread Co. in Minnetonka that handed out delicious and massive samples of bread (that suckered me into some impulse buying) and a stand with homemade soaps. Everyone else sold produce. No array of crafts, jewelry and clothes at this market. The other nice thing is that the produce appeared to be truly locally-grown produce (in contrast to the pineapple vendors at the downtown Minneapolis market). I do know that Mike's Sweet Corn is grown just a mile or so away. It's fun to visit, but I wouldn't count on buying any serious veggies here.

I was a bit surprised to see that this was just confined to the hardware stores parking lot. We probably walked the entire thing in less than 10 minutes. Some vendors had sold out of product and were packing up as we arrived which is amazing for them. They had a bit of everything as far as vendors, arts, crafts, jewelry, meat, food, veggies and such. Not as exciting as others posted about years ago but nice enough for a smaller neighborhood market.

To avoid confusion -- this is the Anoka County Grower's Association market that's been around for well over 30 years, not the new indoor market at the Town Square. Today was the first day so there were only 4 vendors and no fruits or veggies yet. There was a baker, a large greenhouse selling various potted plants, a dog treat person, and the president of the association himself...selling organic creams, salves, insect repellents, deodorants, balms, etc. No produce yet. I bought some classic peanut butter treats for my big doggy. And I purchased some homemade strawberry jam for my kid. I also had some great conversations with the vendors. I'll be back again as produce starts to roll in! And I'll take more photos when things start to pop-off later in the summer. Thanks for another great experience! -Daddy Maxx Retro

Mark is so nice and will buy beer bottles (not screw off) ones from you. Marion who sells pineapple salsa is so nice and it is delicious. the marinade she sells is great on green beans. the man selling buffalo honey sticks and patties is very nice and his patties are a lot cheaper than any co-op. Parking is kind of a problem here. there is someone playing music. Edelweiss Bakery is on the corner and have great bakery items.

But, if you want fresh tomatoes, onions, potatoes, corn, lettuce, flowers, honey (the one unique item here), berries, melons or the like (when in season), then this is as good as any. We do a lot of our weekly grocery shopping at the farmers market as we prize a variety of fresh vegetables, so finding a farmer's market which sells produce - not a flea market or a market which sells mostly prepared food - is a priority. We were pleased with the Bloomington Farmers Market. There were a number of farmer/vendors selling their produce. Also there were a couple of food trucks for lunch. The market itself is easily accessible and there is lots of parking nearby. I missed the hustle and bustle and variety of the Minneapolis Farmers Market so we will have to see if we become regulars at the Bloomington Market but overall I was well pleased.
