This will sound weird. But this was a poor experience but the food was great. We waited nearly 70 minutes for food. After all that wait our food came out one order short. Fortunately my wife and I ordered the same thing so we split it. The missing order came out about 15 minutes later. Most of the coffee containers were empty or close to empty. Ended up having to mix two coffees to get a full cup. My son waited 45 minutes just to get his drink. Table is sticky and gross. No one cleaning the tables. My wife and I had the steak tacos and they were delicious! Our son had one each of the signature tacos and they were also very good. Not sure what happened, perhaps they are short staffed today. I hadn't been again since a few years ago and went again last week -- it was excellent. I got the Retro breakfast and everything was delicious. The scrambled eggs perfect -- not dry or wet -- the biscuit and berry jam top notch, the smoky thick bacon perfectly cooked and the best ever, and the unique hash brown version (smashed potato with green onion I think) had a crispy brown exterior all over -- again perfect. As I reflect back on 2024, I think of three major hurricanes impacting Florida. I think too of Ms. Kristal Green and the team at Maple Street Biscuit Co. in Gainesville who went out of their way to express their appreciation to first responders and crews deployed from South Florida to support the response and recovery efforts in the northern part of the State. The heart shaped biscuits were a wonderful gesture and a morale boost. It seems that Ms. Green and the team are very engaged in their community. Much appreciated (sorry for the delayed post). I've been here a few years ago and remembered enjoying the food, so I came back today while I was visiting town and sadly it was not a good experience. When we arrived around 11am, there were a fair number of people there but it was definitely not full. We waited in line about 10-15 minutes to order and then went to sit at a table to wait for our food. Luckily, I was sitting close to the counter so I could just barely hear them reading out the orders, but I don't know how anyone sitting farther away would have possibly heard it (perhaps a speaker system would help). Also, I'm not sure how I feel about replacing name or order numbers with answers to a question. Like sure asking people what they wouldn't want to run into in a forest is an interesting idea, but when they have 8 orders where someone chose "Bear," maybe they should realize this isn't the best system. I can imagine people forgetting how they answered, but they wouldn't forget their own name or a number on a receipt. Anyways, after about 30 minutes of sitting and waiting they finally called our order. When I went up, I was expecting to get our food, but instead they told me that the steak was not available anymore so they asked if I would mind if they replaced it with chicken, so I guess my The Cowboy basically turned into a The Five and Dime except with no compensation even though The Cowboy is more expensive. I said yes since I wasn't really sure what else I could say; I really would think that they would be able to figure this out sooner when I order rather than waiting til half an hour later to let me know. I then went back to sit down and continue waiting for my food. They mentioned that they had also run out of a type of milk for drinks, and even managed to run out of biscuits so they had to put orders on hold for 15 more minutes. In this time, we also witnessed them topple some orders and need to remake them. After over an hour of total waiting, they finally called our name again for us to get our food, but when I went up, the person had already walked away and their were multiple orders there, so I just had to look and figure out which was mine based. When I finally got to eating it, I was sorely disappointed. The chicken was warm, but everything else was cold, and cold gelatinized gravy was just not what I had hoped for in my brunch, especially when I waited so long that they better have made it fresh. I used to like this place, but after my experience today, I don't think I'll ever go back or recommend this restaurant again unless they really change up how they do things. Based on the level of business today and simplicity of the orders, I would think 15 minutes would be about the maximum time I would expect to wait, not longer than an hour. read more

Pretty bad experience overall. 1. They were out of half of their ingredients by 11:30am. I'm vegetarian so I really couldn't get anything at that point except for the grits. My friend had already ordered so I just got it even though I don't really like grits. 2. It was a 30 minute wait just for a bowl of grits. 3. The bowl was pretty pathetic. They didn't even melt the cheese and the portion was small. 4. Instead of calling your name, they asked you what you'd bring to a cookout and then called you by that. I get that it's supposed to be fun but there was no warning so we were really confused as to what was going on. My friend gave a generic answer and apparently so did others so it was really confusing which "drinks" was her order. Plus we could barely hear them. 5. There was also no more silverware so we had to use the take out forks. I don't really care but just was another example of bad management. The staff was nice at least and they gave us a $10 certificate for the wait but honestly, I'd prefer my money back because I really don't think I'll ever go back to this place. We were visiting the Gainesville area today and had the pleasure of finding this great breakfast spot. From the time they greeted us at the entrance to the time they called out "6 plates for the Crown" to announce that our food was ready the cashier/barista was absolutely a joy. She helped us decide on what to have, patiently answered our questions and even made small talk with us. Now to explain the "Crown", this place is so cool that they have a question of the day and based on your answer that's how they call out your order. Today's question was what show are you binge watching? I am watching the Crown. I thought it was very cool and also fun to watch the people that went up for different shows. It was like getting called up for an award as our group got up to get our order. Now to the food which was absolutely delicious. I had the Hash Bowl, a yummy dish of potatoes, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, goat cheese, and bacon, topped with 2 fried eggs. We also had buttery waffles and about 3 different types of bacon. They also have a Keto bowl for those diet conscious people which came in good for us. Their choice of drinks was also impressive, with more than just coffees which were amazing. We came in and tried to order food, if you want to customize your item they don't, as in take or add items. I had customize my food due to restrictions and it took them 45 minutes to create a carna asada bowl. When the food came out 70% of the bowl was mushroom and there was and sprinkle of meat. We have a mixed review of this place. I thought my chicken and biscuit was good, but nothing special. My husband did not care for his, but that could be a personal preference. Our biggest issue was the price. While we definitely got enough food, it just didn't feel like we got the value for the money that we would expect for breakfast. It is an order, sit, and pick it up type of place that can be pretty loud when it is busy. Again, for the price, I think I would choose a quieter place that has full service. Maple Street Biscuit Company offers a fun twist to traditional comfort food. Came here for lunch. It's an order at the counter sort of situation. Once you order, rather than offering a name for the order, they ask a question and your answer provides the name that will be called to retrieve your order. The question the day I was in was: If you could name a planet, what would you name it? (my answer, Gemini! Mainly because it's the first thing that popped into my head.) Their menu is so full of deliciousness, I had a hard time deciding. Fortunately, I was with someone who is quite familiar with their menu and he offered some recommendations. I ended up opting for the Squawking Goat from their biscuit menu (adhering to my rule of always ordering a menu item if it's included in the name of the business...since they're Maple Street BISCUIT Company, I was bound to order a biscuit!). I'm so glad I did. The Squawking Goat is a flakey, buttery biscuit, topped with a fried chicken breast, fried goat cheese, and smothered in their house made pepper jelly. It's delicious indulgence at it's finest. For my side (because when you're betting on a caloric sh*t storm, might as well go all in), I opted for their mac & cheese. I was a little worried because living in Wisconsin has made me a bit picky when it comes to mac & cheese. We have good cheese, after all. I needn't have been concerned. Their mac & cheese is all ooey-gooey crumbled cheez-its topped cheesy goodness. For beverages, they offer a variety of fountain drinks. I opted to get my first ever sweet tea (whoa, they ain't kiddin' when they say sweet). I ended up adding a bit of lemonade to offset the sweetness with a bit of tartness. It was close to the hotel so I had to try it. My first biscuit was the Sticky Maple. The biscuits were huge and soft. The warmth of the biscuit went well with the maple syrup. The chicken breast was bigger than the biscuit and crispy. I so happy to add the pecan smoked bacon for extra flavor. I love bacon dipped in syrup! The second sandwich was The Farmer. The biscuit and chicken breast was very good along with the bacon, but instead of maple syrup this was topped with fresh house-made apple butter. We had to bus our own table & clean up the mess other patrons made previously. Second, my friend ordered fried green tomatoes & they arrived burnt with no accompanying dipping sauce. Third, I waited 43 minutes for my order. While my friend had already finished eating her meal & the family of three, who ordered after us had already received their order, mine was no where to be found. I requested a refund as I needed to leave, & magically, my food was ready. I was given it to go, with no refund as I had requested. This is the second time I've had this exact same experience at this establishment & as a result I feel compelled to leave this review. The first time I ate at Maple Street was in Jacksonville, Florida. This is my second time, but in Gainesville, Florida. The atmosphere is very nice and clean. Customer service is excellent. When you place your order they ask a question of the month, so whenever the food is ready they yell your answer at the counter. This is not your typical restaurant, more like a order at the cashier, pick up your food, and discard your plates. So I guess similar to fast food, but not really fast food. The Squawking Goat is a fried chicken and biscuit with pepper jelly and goat cheese. Pretty good! Also got an order of the Hashups which was their home fries, bell peppers, onions, smoked ham, and melted cheddar cheese. Reminded me of an omelette with potatoes instead of eggs.
