Things I loved about Maple Street Biscuit in Gainesville: 1. The coffee 2. The comfort food 3. The name of the restaurant Things that countered the love: 1. The massive crowd and long wait time 2. The weird requirement of answering some kind of little riddle / question thing when you place an order in order to receive your order Let me break down that last point for a minute, because it really was a big enough deal to shift my experience to an uncomfortable place, and is the primary reason I won't be returning to Maple Street in the future. First off, I'm an autistic woman. I know the next couple of paragraphs will only personally resonate with and impact a small group of people, but I'm going to share about my experience at Maple Street from that particular lens. As an autistic woman, I thrive on routine and predictability. It's especially important when I'm navigating "the real world" and social settings. When it comes to restaurants, there's a pretty standard flow that is generally followed. You walk into a restaurant. You're either seated at a table or place your order at the counter. You pay / receive your food or you receive your food / you pay. You leave. Every now and then though, an establishment will implement some little "change" to that predictable routine. These changes are usually created with good intentions -- to make the experience fun or memorable, or to set the establishment apart from others. Usually I can navigate those changes okay enough, but at Maple Street Biscuit, I really struggled. After placing my order, I was required to answer a question that was posted next to the cash register. I say "required" because I quietly asked the cashier if I could skip it and just provide my name and she told me I couldn't do that. This immediately set me into a state of internal panic that may seem "dramatic" to allistic (non-autistic) people, but for me and a lot of people like me, it was a really huge deal, and actually made it challenging for me to verbally communicate. The question I had to answer was "what is my kryptonite?" I knew it was a Superman reference, and I knew it was something that hurt him, but in my state of increased internal panic, I couldn't really recall context beyond that. It was really stressful for me to try to answer that question with a large line behind me while feeling so much "pressure". I ended up just throwing out some random word --- "snakes", I think? And then, in true autistic form, I went and overanalyzed the interaction, trying to understand where I "went wrong" while waiting for about 15 minutes for my food. It was truly challenging for me to even wait because I was in such a state of internal distress at that point. Again, I know this explanation won't make sense to a lot of people, because most people will hear an account like this and immediately call it "overreacting". But for a lot of autistic people, this type of unpredictable thing can really hurt us, send us into states of overstimulation, and for some people could actually start an autistic meltdown. The reason I'm sharing this is because all of this is completely avoidable, and I'm hoping that the team at Maple Street Biscuit could implement some small changes that make it a more inclusive experience for anyone who is autistic, lives with anxiety, or has any other "invisible" disability/situation that might make this policy stressful to navigate. Maybe just give customers the option to provide a name instead of answering the question and don't push back or mock them if they decide on this option. Make that a policy, and train the employees on why it's a policy. Simple, inclusive, and you can still do "the fun question thing" for most of your customers. read more

This place never disappoints! Food is delicious and can't be found anywhere else. It is fairly priced for the food amount and quality that you get. There is always a line, but it is easy to understand why. Even though the line moves fairly slow, the food comes out in a reasonable time. Their fried chicken, biscuits and gravy are the best that I have had in Gainesville. Highly recommend to anyone that has not been here. Definitely one of my top places to eat in Gainesville. This is big coming from me because I am not a big chain restaurant fan. However, this chain has figured out how to do it right! read more

After hearing about Maple Street Biscuit Company from people all around Florida, I needed to see what the hype was about while in Gainesville. I love a good breakfast and was ready to chow down! I ordered The Squawking Goat because I love pepper jelly and goat cheese. This combined both! Besides that, I couldn't resist the hashbrown cake because potatoes and even more cheese are life. Coffee is also necessary and they have lots of options. I opted for a cortado which seemed more like a latte (too much milk!) but was still ok. The question of the day was "What's on your bucketlist?" Within a few minutes, "skydiving" was called to indicate our order was ready and it was time to feast! What can I say? The biscuit was everything I dreamed of and more. I loved the spicy-sweet pepper jelly, while the fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I tried out a few of their hot sauces on my hasbrown cake and just couldn't resist devouring it all! I was full until dinnertime. The whole staff was super sweet. I was also impressed by just how huge this space is! There is plenty of seating for groups of all sizes both indoors and out. Parking is easily found in the shared lot. This is a chain starting to pop up in college towns. I think this is the perfect pre 12 o'clock game breakfast/brunch. The sandwiches come with a nice large biscuit with a good size piece of crispy fried chicken. The food is very quick, flavorful, and a large size. The gravy is salty and spicy but not too spicy. The Apple cinnamon topping on my biscuit was basically like eating an apple pie without the extra mass of apple's in a typical pie. Little sweet for my liking but it was good. The biscuit was buttery and salty, I would call it the perfect biscuit. The hash stack was just OK. The food here is excellent and comparable to what I've had at the Oviedo location. I felt that their chocolate chip cookies were just alright. The squawking goat is amazing and absolutely worth trying. The sauce is delicious and the food tastes fresh. The staff was very friendly, but the line was moving rather slow. I think they really needed 2 cash registers open instead of just one. I was not a huge fan of the fact they didn't have real silverware. All they had the morning we went was plastic spoons. Great service, great venue, great food. Truly a breakfast/brunch staple of Gainesville! Known for their amazing biscuits and gravy, each meal is a hearty delight. The venue is large, open, and farm themed, creating a warm, homey atmosphere. Every time I have stopped by, I am always met with quality customer service! During one of my visits, I was having a particularly rough day and was knocking over most of my belongings, including a full glass of water. A few team members including the owner/manager (?) rushed to clean my water, pick up my belongings, and ask about my day. You can't beat this kind of hospitality! As for the food, I always get the Five and Dime (which is delicious and filling despite it appearing somewhat small) and I am always satisfied! I have heard so much about this place, this morning I decided to try it out. It was clean and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Customer service was definitely on point, no wait and I was immediately greeted. However, the presentation of my food looked as if someone just threw it in the container, there were fried potatoes and what looked like old fried egg in the box with my food and stuck to my food. Mind you, I order the chix and waffles, no egg or potatoes included. The container which I'm assuming contained the syrup for my waffles was smashed along with the midsection of the lid that housed my food, and all the syrup was spilled out. Which in most cases I wouldn't have cared had it been soaked up by these beautiful fluffy waffles however, instead it had been soaked up by the chicken strips. Now I am eating very sweet and flavorful chicken strips and dry waffles. I was expecting a little more care in the packaging. It literally looked as if my waffles had been thrown into the container, strips placed nicely beside the busted syrup container with the lid smashed in at the top. The food was okay, and I will try them out again. I do believe in second chances because sometimes people or things are just off so hopefully they can redeem themselves! read more

I've been to Maple Street a few years ago and had a positive experience, but my most recent experience wasn't great. I ordered the Five and Dime. It came with gravy, bacon, fried egg, and chicken. The meal overall was lukewarm, and the biscuit was cold and hard. The biscuit was so hard that I had difficulty cutting it, and couldn't stick my fork through it. It made me think they used old biscuits instead of making their food fresh. Had the food been hot and the biscuit been softer, I would've given this place a higher rating. I came here with a friend who also agreed that the biscuits were way too hard. Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with my meal as I know they used to have better quality food. I'm not sure if they were having an off day, or if their food quality decreased since the last time I visited. It'll be a while before I come back here. read more

This place is definitely one of my favorite breakfast joints in Gainesville. And I think the one thing that really sets it apart from the others is it's fast food service. It's not your regular McDonald's where you order your breakfast McMuffin and call it a day. These are some gourmet biscuit sandwiches with tender chicken and your assortment of sauces and jellies. Aside from the delicious biscuit sandwiches, this place has personality with beautiful calligraphy and art drawn on their chalkboard menus and ceiling lights inspired by Pinterest. They also do this cool thing where they don't ask for your name for the order but something about you. For example, they asked for my favorite band and that was the name of my order.
