This is my relative's favorite restaurant. And after a 2 week trip to Italy just completed, we thought the last thing we would enjoy was another Italian dinner. Our party of 3 had dinner on 11/12. The zucchini bisque w/ crab was very good, and I thought I made it better w/ some of the Parmesan on the table. My wife & I split the seafood alfredo w/ HOMEMADE pasta. The sauce was a little heavy, but the scallops were large AND well cooked (for $21). It was plenty for 2. Our host had the lobster bisque and was pleased, as his was w/ the pasta w/ crab. Staff polite. Spaghetti definitely not the best in the area. Our spaghetti was cooked in the same pot/pan as fish, and tasted every bit like fish. Inedible. Meatballs were okay. Garlic bread was atrocious. Looked very good until the first bite.... then the realization hit us that this was reused Italian garlic bread from a previous client dinner. Pretty certain this is against the law. We sought this restaurant out on purpose as we are new to the area. Still willing to try the Black Horse Pike location but the White Horse Pike one is stuffy, crowded, and definitely overpriced. The one highlight was a white bread roll with sesame seeds that was fantastic. Sad to say that a white roll was the highlight of a $20 dinner, but we are not accustomed to paying $20 for a white roll. Thumbs down! read more

This is by far the best Italian Restaurant anywhere. We travel all over the country and we found some good Italian restaurants, but none compare to either of Joe Italiano's restaurants in Hammonton or Mays Landing. The gravy is just the best and the garlic bread is just amazing. We have been eating at both locations for over 30 years and no matter what we order have never had a bad meal. We love this place! I don't think we've ever had a bad meal here. The atmosphere is wonderful - lively and pleasant. Our daughters were visiting from Dallas, and we thought they'd enjoy it here. They certainly did! We came early on a Monday evening for dinner, so it was not as busy as it is on the weekends. We were able to get a table in the bar area (our preference for seating) and had a wonderful dinner. We all had pasta/seafood dishes - delicious! The salad and bread were very good, and as usual, the service didn't let us down. I don't remember ever having anything other than pasta here, so that is what I recommend. Although, I do prefer the red sauce (specifically, arrabiata) over the white. Not that the white sauce is bad, but the red just is that good! read more

My fiancé and I came here last night after being recommended to go by some family members. After a very long 45 minute drive, we made it at about 8:45pm. The restaurant was still serving many tables but you could tell it was starting to wind down for the night. Our server was great - I can't remember her name but she was very quick to bring everything out. The fresh bread and garlic bread is delicious. The garlic bread is a little chewy but that's how I like it. The ceasar salad was brought out in a big bowl with a wooden spoon and fork for us to share and fill our own plates. My fiancé ordered the chicken parm and I ordered the Robin's chicken that had spinach, roasted red pepper, and provolone on top. My fiancé was very satisfied with his chicken parm, but he wishes the chicken was thicker (the slices are very thin). He thought the marinara sauce was great. My chicken was delicious - the red peppers offered a sweetness along with the savory so it was the perfect combo. The side dish of pasta with oil and garlic was delicious as well. I love how they put fried bits of garlic on top. The only thing I didn't like is that it was very messy because the pasta has so much oil sitting at the bottom of the dish.. I had to transfer the pasta to another dish to get rid of the excess oil. I also love how they have Locatelli cheese on each table; enough to fill your heart's desire. The bathroom was very clean, nicely decorated, and I love how they have an actual changing table for babies and not just some gross tray that drops down from the wall like every other place.. Very well thought of!! Overall, we were satisfied with our meals and the quick service, but we do like Scarpinato's food a little better. I'm sure we will be back though! read more

However, the table we were at was very close to other tables & I don't think they were happy bring crammed (either was I). My only company,isn't was auctioning off food. I have been coming here for more years than I can count. This is definitely the best Italian restaurant I've ever seen. My Italian uncle had dinner here for the first time and cried after tasting the food. He said it was the best he's had in years and everything tasted just like his mother's cooking. Friends from out of town always ask to visit Maplewood every time they fly in. When you see an Italian restaurant filled with Italian customers who know good cooking, you know the secret of Maplewood's success. Stopped here after a Philly airport run, sat at a high top in the bar area. Ordered the combo (white & red clams) Casino, ask to try both, they were very good with small and tasty clams with good toppings. I liked the red. Before this came the house salad, that has a nice light tart dressing with red vinegar, and some mixed veggies and sweet peppers, also some garlic bread & a loaf with butter, the garlic bread you cannot refuse ! My wife had the Pork chops Italiano, 2 thick chops with some peppers and such with homemade pasta, nice & tender, she was very happy. I had the Lobster Fra Diablo, over homemade spaghetti, awesome flavor, ate it all, cleaned the plate with the bread. Will get again. Brought home her 2nd chop and 1/2 the paste, lucky me. Reasonable drink prices, good service, decorated nicely for Christmas. read more

I wish they would stay consistent.If You order something one day, then two days later order it again, it's totally different. It's either loaded with sauce, or super dry. Have a big serving of pasta, or hardly a child size, size of pasta. Have crab meat on it one day, and not the next. But guess what...they price are they only thing that's guaranteed. So ridiculous. Especially if you get take out. I guess they think once you get it home you won't complain. I doubt they would serve you burnt garlic bread if your were sitting in dining. Or do they save that for take-out. For the prices and business they do there I'm pretty sure you can refire garlic bread and take a hit on the burnt stuff. Since they fixed up the inside so well, maybe they should concentrate now on the chefs. Or maybe lower your prices until your able to step up to that kind of expectations that you instill in your customers by charging those prices. i don't mind paying for expensive food, but make it look and taste expensive at least. read more

Love the Maplewood! The food is delicious! My only complaint is the front lobby is always jam packed so waiting on a table can get uncomfortable. But the food is great and pricing is reasonable, so it's worth the tight quarters while waiting to be seated. read more

Hammonton native. Used to love the pasta here but ive noticed a decline maybe 5 years ago. My favorite WAS the ravioli, but last time ive eaten them they tasted like frozen store bought covered in 95% water 5% pasta sauce. Just awful. Where did the quality go? Maplewood has been my go to take out place for 18 years. I love their homemade pastas especially the manicotti and meatballs. They also have the best Garlic bread ever! I love their complimentary salads, freshly baked bread and they even give you Garlic bread too! They also have delicious carrot cake. I will eat there for as long as I live. read more

The Maplewood in Hammonton is the best Italian food in south jersey. Their garlic bread is so delicious. They are usually busy on the weekends but if you can't eat in, take out it great too. Their house salad is also great. The service is great and the food just like grandma use to make! read more

The new look is amazing. I'm here with my daughter for here birthday. I'm disappointed in some of the changes. No French onion soup, prices went up 6.00, and the salad was smaller then before. Best low key place to eat in hammonton. Pro tip: wear loose fitting pants or be prepared to let the gut hang They recent put in a second dining room so the wait isn't as long. However, is you are going for dinner I would recommend calling ahead to get an estimation on the wait time, I've waited as long as an hour but it's worth it by far. The staff is extremely helpful, and get every request the first time around. If I could I would drink their house dressing for my meal, but apparently that's looked down upon. We recently went for lunch, my grandmother swears by their manicotti. We also had the lasagna, bean soup, and chicken park with the homemade pasta all of which were out of this world. They are also able to accommodate for any dietary restrictions and each waiter I've had thus far was very knowledgeable. DESSERT ALERT: YOU NEED TO GET THE LEMON CHELO PIE. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Our waitress recommended the dessert to my aunt, who is a picky eater and she nearly cried. Keep doing what you're doing maplewood. read more

Arrived on a Sunday evening at 6pm. I was with a party of six with two small children. We were told that you can't make a reservation unless you have ten or more. We waited one hour and fifty five minutes to get a table for six. Many others who arrived after us were seated before us. My advice if you have a party of five to nine is to set a reservation for ten. Then when you are called just tell them that the others did not arrive. That way you won't have to go through the terrible wait that we went through. There was no apology for the wait. They just did not give a damn about us. Never really cared much for the food here. Got a very generous gc from a well meaning person who didn't know I wasn't a fan so my husband and I went . I had the Cavatelli Franco , described I believe as a pink sauce , having shrimp and crabmeat in the sauce. Bruschetta and fried ravioli for appetizers andy husband had the Uncle Nino over home made pasta. Let me start with the bruschetta - now I realize jersey tomatoes are out of season but you don't use whole tomatoes from a can and throw sliced olives on it. There was no flavor other than the water the tomatoes were packed in. The fried ravioli was hard on the edges and tasted as though they stayed a bit too long in he freezer . The sauce tasted fresh. Fresh out of the jar. Overly doused in oregano, sorry to say. I was able to pick out the crabmeat and shrimp, which in sauce is typically cooked to a rubbery texture, but he seafood was delicate and not overcooked. The garlic bread was obviously made with day old (or or two) bread. My husband did enjoy his meal though they give you way too much pasta . For $26.99 they should give you more shellfish rather than 2lbs of pasta. The wait staff there was their saving grace. They wee gracious, polite and attentive . They kept their cool while another foursome allowed their children to run around the dining room and even into the kitchen ! Some of the wait staff were practically tripping over these kids but they kept their cool. ( I don't think I could have done that). All in all, I know a lot of the locals really enjoy the place. I'm not one of them. I think it's over rated and mostly patronized by those who've just gone there forever . read more

We drove about 40 mins to get there on a Saturday night at 7pm and waited a little over an hour (we were told we would be seated in appx 40 mins) to be seated. We ordered the fried calamari and the bruschetta for apps which were just ok. We went there because my wife had a craving for White sauce spaghetti with crab meat ($24.99 I think) so she got that. The pasta was homemade which was good but it was very watery and bland. My sons had the Seafood Alfredo(24.99)and the Eleanor Special (21.99 I think)which is the spaghetti with calamari and crab - really bland. I had the Eggplant Parmesan ($16.99)which was just ok. The last time we were at Joe's Maplewood Inn was in Mays Landing, NJ about 4 years ago. I ordered the Cousins back then and thought that I could have cooked a much better dish than that! Well, we gave it another shot because of my wife's craving but it's now carved in stone that we will never go back to this restaurant. I don't know what the fuzz is about...to each his own I guess. read more

Really good Italian. We had the mozzarella beretta which had super creamy cheese and the sweetest tomatoes ever. For entrees sample the t-bone and muscles fra diavolo. Both were fresh and delicious. As I live in the neighboring town...Usually the food is consistently good but lately my meals have been lacking the "homemade " flavor they taut as their own ! When dining out it is not all about the food, it's a combination of things , ambience , how you are treated , how you feel when you leave ...would you recommend it ?! That said , owners do yourselves a big favor ...Get rid of the woman tending bar during the week ! She has zero personality and is down right rude ! She does speak to the regulars a little bit "nicer" but has such a chip on her shoulder that it takes away from your dining experience ! If she is "family" ... sit her down and tell her it is costing you this bad review ! Also want to suggest you make some "different" specials during the week ... tired of the same old stuff !!!
