I took my Mom and Dad to my favorite restaurant ...Maplewood in Hammonton... and had the rudest waitress ever! First, when she approached the table within 5 minutes of being seated... she asked for our drinks... I asked what kind of Pinot Grigio they had....she said Cavit and Santa Margherita....I said, "What is the difference in price?" She said, "I don't know!" Look at the menu! She was so sarcastic! Ya know, i know my wines and they have two completely different tastes... Cavit is cheap wine and Santa Margherita is 2 times the price! But the fact is although I have eaten here for years ...NOW they have a NEW menu! Gee, I just sat down....give me a chance to look at the new menu or if u are in such a hurry to get me in and out... U better know the menu inside and out!! But this was really not the problem! She had the nerve to come to our table and question my tip!!! She totally embarrassed me and my parents! And on Mother's Day to make it even worse! Our bill was $114.57.... I gave her a gift card for 13.24 and $122.00 in cash. And if she wasn't so cocky, i would have given her more! She came to our table holding a five dollar bill and a one dollar bill in her right hand and a calculator with the rest of the cash in her left hand...And said nasty, "Do u know how much you gave me for a tip?" My brother was in town from Florida and had this place on his bucket list while he was here for a quick visit. He remembered it fondly from his days when he was at Stockton College and this was a place that would've been a major treat for him back in the day. We had a mix of people in our group, from a grandmother to a teen and a bunch of middle-aged folks. Pros: On point service. That server worked her butt off with several tables. Cons: A bit chilly in the dining room, but possibly due to the table location. Also a bit noisy, due to full capacity. About the food: It was decent; seafood was a bit skimpy on my serving and real reason for dropping a star from the review. Calamari was good - I liked those tentacles! We had a big group - might have been nice to have more than just one loaf / butter to share among so many of us. In hindsight, I'm sure we could have asked for one more for our side of the table, but that should've been automatically done. read more

We love this location and restaurant. The food never disappoints and the service is excellent! We love the big salad and fresh loaf of bread but the entrees are very good. We have had the veal scallopini, veal parm, Chilean sea bass and flounder stuffed w crab. All were excellent and of course their homemade pasta w oil and garlic is delicious. We are always greeted by Beth who is warm, welcoming and vivacious. Our last waitress, Kirsten was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. This place is AMAZING. I'm from California so I thought everything on the menu seemed especially affordable. I had huge huge plate of homemade pasta with crab meat, clams, scallops, shrimps, and scungilli for only $23. If I got to spend more time or go back to New Jersey, I wouldn't wanna eat anywhere else but here. So my bf took me here on a weekday afternoon so it was really quiet, but he said this place is always packed at night, especially in the summer. So if you want good food but don't wanna wait at night, I really recommend going in the afternoon. The waitress was really nice and brought us a basket of very very delicious bread topped with sesame seeds and also a basket of garlic bread (what place gives you garlic bread for free?) The place was bustling with mostly locals but we were seated quickly and greeted by a server immediately. I normally go to the Maplewood Inn in Mays Landing but tonight I was in Hammonton so I tried this location. It was every bit as good as the one in Mays Landing. I skipped the house salad and dove right into the Garlic Bread. My server kept it coming and could not have been nicer. For my main course I ordered the bone in Cowboy Steak (really just a bone in Ribeye) with Homemade Spaghetti (with red sauce). The Steak came with an au jus that works well with the Steak. I had them cook the steak with nothing but crushed garlic. Unfortunately it came out very rare and I had to send it back. No problem, I ate the homemade Spaghetti while I waited. OMG! I love their homemade Spaghetti. Yum! I had finished it by the time the steak came back. My server offered me another plate of Homemade Spaghetti and I gladly obliged. I was pleasantly surprised when I went here for dinner with friends. They chose the restaurant and with some of the reviews I was a bit nervous. The decor is simple and lovely. My favorite part of dining with a group is you get to try a variety of foods. For apps we had the calamari, coconut shrimp, longhots, clams casino(white) and scallops wrapped in bacon. All were very good. Calamari was tender and the wasabi sauce that came with the scallops was so good. I had the stuffed shrimp with crabmeat and there was very very little filler. My husband got the seafood alfredo with homemade pasta. It lacked salt but when we added the salty parmesan cheese it made it right were it needed to be. From the empty plates that were left I assume my friends liked their dishes as well. Get the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Yeah, the best garlic bread I've ever had. I have no idea what they use to make it so darn good but it's addicting. We kept asking for more because of how much we enjoyed it. Amazing experience here. When you order, they bring you out salad for table along with bread and garlic bread. The salad has sweet peppers in it, which was different, yet still tasteful. We had mussels as an appetizer that we really enjoyed. It was in a spicy red sauce and they gave you extra sauce on the side, something I haven't seen before. I had the chicken parm, which was a thinner piece of chicken, generally not my preference but I still really enjoyed it. My girlfriend got handmade spaghetti with seafood and a blush sauce. She enjoyed it and I tasted it as well and loved it. Everything was very authentic and freshly made. There's not a negative thing I could say about Joe Maplewood's. One of the better restaurants for great basic Italian meals. Fresh bread baked everyday and you get a loaf delivered to your table, which is double the size of Outback and 100% better. Chicken Parmigiana was excellent. Chicken was pounded thin and lightly greased. Sauce was great, had to ask for more. Rigatonis were good and the sausage was even batter. My wife and I took our oldest son and his new wife (who we just love!) to The Maplewood this past Sunday. We actually wound up there because our favorite Hammonton restaurant, Roccos's, is now closed on Sunday. While I was initially disappointed that we would not be eating at Roccos, which, by the way, I still very much enjoy, we did have a wonderful dinner at The Maplewood! The selection there is quite different from Rocco's and specializes in Italian seafood dishes, which are done to perfection. Their menu is extensive and there are many choices other than seafood, and in fact my wife loved her ribeye steak! But the homemade spaghetti coupled with seafood of your choice (I had scallops and crab) in either a white or red sauce (I had the white.....magnificent!) is really the highlight of the menu. The Maplewood starts off all diners with a family style served salad that is just fantastic, along with generous servings of fresh bread and garlic bread. The cocktails are also wonderful! My wife really enjoyed her specialty martini, a great rendition of "pumpkin pie ", perfect for the season! The prices are not "inexpensive" and you should be prepared to spend a couple hundred dollars (without dessert) for a family of four but we felt it was well worth the price for the quality of the food and the exemplary service we received. We won't give up Rocco's but The Maplewood is another fine choice in Hammonton! read more

I had Joe's special, the sauce on their pasta was to liquidly, I mean watery, I had to put butter on the white sauce to give it some taste. I will never go back to Joe's Maplewood... We have tried to keep our local businesses going, by ordering and picking up takeout dinners several times a month. Today, I ordered a shrimp and broccoli with white sauce DINNER, and it came with four tiny shrimp, for $23.99... I called them and complained, and all they said was "oh I'm sorry, I'll talk to the chef, I'm sorry." Didn't ask me my name, didn't ask me if I'd like to come back and pick up more shrimp, didn't asked me if I wanted a credit for my dinner, or a future dinner...Did t ask me if there was anything they could do to make it right..... Poor customer service, Anyone is entitled to a mistake, but not to even try to make it right obviously means they do not care about their customers. UPDATE TO MY REVIEW 7/12/20.... I received an apology letter and a gift card for the price of my dinner. I will Give them another chance as they are a staple in our neighborhood. Hopefully, we will see an improvement. read more

We chose this place based on yelp reviews. The food & service was below moderate. We ordered the mozzarella beretta appetizer; the tomatoes did not taste fresh. My husband ordered chicken arugula for his entree. The chicken was extremely thin with a mound of arugula thrown on top. His meal was tasteless. The sauce on his spaghetti and on my ravioli entree was very watery and had bland flavor. The service was unsatisfactory. Our waitress was kind but her runner seemed untrained. She served our salad with wet plastic salad bowls sitting on top of the lettuce. Our pitcher of red sangria was okay. Not the best but not the worst I've ever had. If you haven't experienced Sunday dinner at a Hammontonian's Italian-American grandmother's house, Joe Italiano's Maplewood will pretty much replicate it for you. This place is no joke. The menu is extensive: plenty of pasta and meat dishes, as well as seafood. Plus, they hook you up with a ton of garlic bread AND little Italian rolls. Clearly, they got the memo that CARBS = LOVE! The red sauce--gravy, as my Nan would call it--is THE BEST. Not even Nanny A.'s can compare, and her's is pretty freakin' good (after my own, of course). This place could make a killing just by selling jars of that stuff. Seriously. And the only thing better than their amazing sauce is the homemade pasta. It's so fresh it makes you wish you never tasted boxed pasta in your life. It'll also make you wish you had a little old Italian woman living in your kitchen, cranking out that shit for you every day. And the portions? Well, they are huge. A quaint dinner of spaghetti and meatballs is enough for two people (or a couple leftover meals, if you're like me and don't care to share). From the looks of other people's platters, the meat dishes are also heartily portioned. There probably should be a warning on the menu: BEWARE! On the way to Cape May, we recently decided to stop at this location on the way since we have been so pleased in the past when going to the Mays Landing location. OH BOY, WHAT A MISTAKE!!! . . . so very Disappointment!!!!!!!!!!! Not that it should make a difference it was on a Thursday evening before the evening rush if indeed they have one. The Chicken Robin was OVER cooked and way overpriced for what was served! The 2nd entree was an abomination of what was described on the menu as Spaghetti & Spinach, in Garlic and Oil, well let's just say the pasta and spinach were served in spinach water or something other than Garlic & Olive Oil. There might have been a hint of garlic flavor instead of minced pieces of GARLIC which are just two of the main ingredients in this meal known by many as Aglio e Olio. So, drive the extra 14 miles southwest it's still on the way to Cape May, and don't be fooled by the name of this location its nowhere are good as Joe Italiano's in May's Landing. I had heard a lot about this restaurant. Seemed every time I passed it, it seemed full of cars and very crowded. I was lucky enough to finally go to this great restaurant twice now. It did not disappoint. The homemade spaghetti is bar none the very best I have ever had. Their "gravy" is excellent along with their perfect meatballs.
