I wish I knew about Mara's before I spent money on ice cream on the boardwalk. Now, will surely pass by after a Rockaway beach day. Located between Beach 92nd and 94th Streets. Beach 97 area is nearby. Close to a few bus lines and A train (for us, Q52 or Q53 stops in the Queens Center mall area). There's a large menu but we've been getting ice cream only. Prices are great. A small is a good-sized scoop at $5.50, even in a waffle cone. Finally asked for mine in a cup then topped with the waffle cone to avoid dripping all over the sides. Many flavors to choose from (saw one boozy flavor for 21+) but the Chocolate Lovers Chocolate is my pick so far - still sweet but dark chocolate with swirls and choc chunks in it. Had a taste of the Sea Salt Caramel Truffle - too sweet for me. Rainbow and Chocolate sprinkles are free. Other toppings cost $1 and given pre-packed so can add onto ice cream by yourself. There are a few tables indoors. Outdoors, there's a sandy area in the back with an umbrella-covered table/seats plus beach chairs. Service has been great. Got a "buy 10, get 1 free" punch card. There's a restroom but had an out-of-order sign on our last visit. read more

My visit today was great! I was very appreciative of the price, excellent service, and good quality ice cream. I asked about their ice cream sandwich selection and the person helping me was kind enough to open up a four pack of the Oreo sandwiches so that I could buy one individually, since they only had the individually wrapped chocolate chip cookie sandwiches in the customer freezer at that time. It was delicious! I was very impressed at how kind that was. They also have a cute patio in the back which has some great seating. Would come back! read more

Cute shop with lots of flavors . Good quality ice-cream with fun combinations. They have a boozy ice cream which you actually have to show ID for . We saw on the welcome sign that they had sugar free ice cream and that was really the lure because my son needs that option. Unfortunately there was only 1 offering and it was coffee based. ( they should really have more options) Nevertheless, the service was terrific, the girls were super sweet and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed as an ice cream shop should be. The backyard is really cute and set up like a beach shore . It was about to storm so we sat inside instead. The bathroom was temporarily of service, but they do have one . Cute merch for sale. A Rockaway Beach classic! You can't go wrong with any of the flavors at Mara's (and there are a lot to choose from) but my favorite has to be the sea salt caramel truffle. Mara's Ice Cream Parlor is awesome and the place to be if you love icecream (which I do so I maybe a little biased). There is a literally a flavor there for everybody. The service was great. I really didn't know what I wanted because there were so many options. Even after the taste test I was provided. The flavors were all so good and it was hard to choose one. In the end the server was very accommodating and I was able to get a brownie sundae. With three small scoops of different flavors. I would definitely return. I ate half my desert when I remembered I didn't take a picture. But i'll be sure to take a picture when I visit next time. read more

This hidden gem is one of the best ice cream parlors in New York. A scoop of campfire s'mores ice cream in a pretzel cone is heavenly! The girls serving the ice cream are so kind and friendly. The shop is wheelchair accessible and gets great cross ventilation between the open door and backyard. All seating is outside! There is one table on the sidewalk and a bunch in the backyard. Was in the neighborhood for an event and I wanted something sweet. The owner is really sweet so is the employee. This is a woman's owned shop, which I have to support. She gets her ice cream from a family owned creamery as per the website, everything is home-made. In my picture, I reposition the duck and the chicken to take a picture with my milkshake - Maine Blueberry. The owner was smiling and explain that the kids would race the animals on the floor. I ordered a scoop of the s'mores ice cream and a scoop of the birthday cake ice cream in a cup with whipped cream on top. My mom ordered a chocolate shake. The s'mores ice cream had graham cracker flavored ice cream, marshmallow fluff, and chocolate. The birthday cake ice cream had vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and small pieces of cake. I came into this shop with two children and waited in the line just like everyone else only to not be acknowledged by not one of the three employees behind the counter. When myself and the two children made it to the front of the line, every single worker behind the counter serviced the customers that were behind us. Some flavors are a bit more washed out for my liking but the chocolate lovers was solid and very dark chocolate forward. I was headed to the beach at my old stomping grounds in Far Rockaway and got turned around looking for parking and pulled right up to this gem. I think it used to be the Loui G Icey spot but I could be wrong the colors were different but I sent in my little gang to investigate. There was NO PARKING so I sat right out front in the car while my 13 and 10 year old ran in for pictures of the menu. I made a quick choice in Campfire S'more icecream and headed in to pay. I was also asked if I wanted to mix flavors. I didn't. I selected to be boring a d go with one flavor. I settled on pena colada icy.
