He receiving great attention and support from the staff. The director Jennifer is very "hands on" even helping her staff with dinning duties. I have been in many similar situations as a worker, and also had my father in a place in San Diego. This place is very clean, and no smell. A lot of these facilities have a bad smell. I could fill 1000 pages with specific praise for this place but let me just cover the best of the best. I will start with "Management"... I will start with the top: The Executive Director, Karen Enciso has that rare blend of business savvy, compassion and emotional intelligence. She runs a very tight ship but does so with grace and poise and it's apparent she cares for all of her residents, families, and staff. Karen is always available and responsive when needed. My mother thinks the world of her and for good reason. The nursing management and staff are kind and competent and always ready to help. These professionals have saved my mother's life on several occasions and I am humbled by how hard they work to keep their elderly residents feeling safe and cared for. The great part about this place is that they also offer a great Memory Care Program. If my mother ever needs that specific service, I am confident that she will be well taken care of. The community is always clean and fresh when I visit my mother and we just enjoy those fresh cookies the receptionist bakes daily. I shopped around and Emeritus at Oceanside offers the best bang for our buck. You can find slightly less expensive places but they are not up to standard in my opinion. You can pay much more and not do any better. I thank God for guiding me to this place, I can now sleep better knowing that my mother is in good hands. I give this place all the stars in the sky. He wasn't a particularly social person, but he was welcomed with politeness by the other residents and was always treated with kindness and respect by each of the staff. This final phase of my father's life was a particularly sensitive time for our family and the staff at Everest truly made this a beautiful experience for us. From our initial tour with Yadi, and Gio's visit to our home to evaluate my dad prior to move-in, I knew Everest would be the ideal fit for our family. We are so grateful for each of the hard-working caregivers, the med techs who were always on-point, the sweet welcome team at the front desk, the efficient dining and cleaning staff, Karie bringing added joy to the community with new activities, plus Sydney and Jill's kind and experienced leadership. This place is truly awful. My mom has been here quite…read moresometime. I am being told by caregivers that she we should remove her immediately. That she doesn't receive adequate care here. That they are extremely understaffed. That there has even come a time when 1 caregiver had to work a whole floor themselves during the morning and evening shift. So therefore how is one person giving showers, feeding them , changing them and caring for them. I am being told my mom is sometimes not fed because they forget to feed her. They use the supplies that I buy for her like combs, socks and shirts and use them for other residents. They use my mom's wipes and briefs for other residents. That the staff does not use hoyer as they should be and sometimes one caregiver is transferring my mom who is not that skinny or lightweight onto the wheel chair and back for meals. I didn't think much because I barely am able to visit with my work schedule and so a I was told this by caregivers Mike the director is apparently cheap and does not provide enough supplies that even caregivers have to go without wipes or gloves. I will be calling the state licensing and have them come in the specific days and times the caregivers have explained to me so that they could see what's really going on.

The Doctor and staff seem unable to regulate pain management even with a interfecal pain pump. They would give you a pill one day and cut you back on pain relief the next. In 12 years I never had issues once the pump was filled. They let the pump go completely dry for over a month. The staff was very good. I had numerous clothes disappear to where I didn't even have underwear to wear. The staff was friendly and they tried to help the patients.

After serving as my Mom's primary caregiver for 11 years, I spent two years personally checking…read moredozens of local North County senior residential care homes for my 90 year old mother, who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's and Dementia. Most are OK, not great. The larger facilities are too hotel-ish and very costly. A few were terrible. I reported THE MANSE in Vista to the state for elder abuse, and ultimately they were given a only minor warning. Avoid that house of horrors at all costs! After putting Mom's name on a list at Blue Skies I decided to call Lauren back to see if they had an opening. Fortunately for us, she had an opening and so in February of 2014 we moved Mom into their Oceanside facility. They have two large 6 room/bed homes, one in Oceanside and the other in San Marcos. Both are big beautiful homes with lovely yards and gardens. Mom's care there has been wonderful, as Lauren and her staff treat each resident as if they are family, with lots of TLC, activities, and personal care. Staffing levels are plentiful, with a 2-3 staffing contingent for the six residents at each place 24/7. Amazingly, their price in very middle-of-the-road and well worth the services and facilities provided with delicious hot meals 3X daily, and plenty of snacks and drinks. Their loving, caring attitude is priceless! If you are seeking a wonderful home-like "family" atmosphere for an elder loved one, you will not find a nicer, more accommodating place in the area for ANY price. I know this as I checked most of them personally and can attest to this fact. So if you need some help with a loved one getting on in years, or needing help with daily living activities, do yourself a favor and call Lauren and get on their list right away. You will thank yourself as I do every single day. Yes, there is a list but they do have turnover due to the advanced aged of many of their residents.

Carlsbad by the Sea is relatively small and is likely to remain an intimate face-to-face community in which everyone gets to know each other. There are many events and activities, most of which bring people together. Staff is a constant presence and very caring toward the residents. Since we are all equally human, none of us is happy about everything all the time. Some of us like to run things. Others don't. Some of us grumble. Others of us smile. Many of us do both. Sometimes dining service is slow. Some people complain that our menus have too many choices. That's no different from our lives before Carlsbad by the Sea. In sum, for us--and most of our friends--this is a great place to grow old. Those residents who with time come to need care services are admirably tended in the skilled nursing facility, which is separately licensed but closely associated with Carlsbad by the Sea. Re the business model, residents do not pay for long-term care insurance in our fees. That means we pay only for the health care we use. While that can be costly for some, it's more affordable for those who need less care. There is no care-inclusive option such as that offered at some other similar communities. Most residents pay an entry fee which becomes nonrefundable after about five years. There is a refundable option at double the price. Carlsbad by the Sea is part of Front Porch, a corporation that runs a number of communities and other senior serving entities. Local community business operations are integrated into the larger corporation. The compelling attraction for Carlsbad by the Sea is its location on the beach in the Village area of Carlsbad, a well-managed seaside community. There is a train station just a block away to the East and public buses pass by the entrance. In addition, the community itself offers a well-regarded transportation service, though many residents continue to maintain their own cars.
