The associate brought out five pairs after discussing the specifics about my running regimen, and I narrowed it down to two. To determine the best choice, I walked around with one style on the left (Brooks) and the other on my right (Asics), selecting the latter. Marathon Sports is a great local company and it is fantastic that they are opening more locations. This location is setup very nicely, and the array of shoes when you walk in is impressive. The staff here is very nice and helpful just like the other locations. They are very good at what they do, helping you find the correct pair of athletic shoes, and they are very patient. they also carry other items, like the Adidas Climacool shirt which I love, and I also love my new Altra Zero Drops! read more

One star is more deserving than my latest experience at the Shrewsbury Marathon store. I have been a loyal customer for 20 years if not more- the customer service has ALWAYS been top notch. Until today. I went in for a new pair of Hokas. There was one customer actively being help, one looking around and myself and one deciding which pair of sneakers to purchase. There were at least 4 staff members that i could see. The kid (maybe high school age) behind the register was chatting it up with the manager and another colleague while barking orders at what seemed to be a new, red faced, employee in training - legit running around the store. I hadnt been waiting long, maybe 5-10 min, when a mom and her daughter came in and were immediately helped. I hadn't even been acknowledge. Dont get me wrong, i dont mind waiting - and appreciate the amount of time that marathon employees usually spend with customers. However i was annoyed that no one even said hi - especially with two+ people at the registers shooting the shit. I just wanted to new pair of sneakers. I made eye contact with one kid who just stared back with and shook his head in a WTF manner and raised his hands "like what did i want". Clearly i was bothering him. And he couldnt be bothered to help a customer. Never have I felt soo disrespected and annoyed in trying to buy a $175 pair of sneakers before. Give me a break. I guarantee i wont be back to the Shrewsbury location any time soon. FWIW, all comparable shoes @Hoka.com at at least $10 + less expensive. Thanks for reading to the bottom. read more

Prices were a bit on the high side, but I don't know enough about the gear to know if it was high-end high-quality items, or overpriced. I can be a magnet for bad service... I don't know why, I just ask people to do their job. I don't think it's asking too much. But every once in a while I receive service that exceeds my expectations and in fairness I will sing their praises today. I am running the #Bostonmarathon this year and about a month ago I went to Marathon Sports (Shrewsbury, MA) to get some new sneaks for the race and bought some socks as well. I went in today to buy a fresh set of socks because I had put some miles on the old ones and a hole was starting to appear at my big toe. I was amazed when they said they had another report of this happening to someone else and were so sorry. She offered for me to pick out a new pair and she would just exchange them for me. Wow, I totally didn't see that coming, luckily I had my sweaty socks in the car (I had just run 5 miles). I put them in a bag and picked out a new set. Looking back, obviously they didn't have to do that, I did wear them pretty hard. But I guess thats what you get when you buy from a great company that believes in service. I am running my first marathon in May, and the first time I walked in there I was greeted cheerfully and treated respectfully. The manager was extremely friendly and helpful as well as knowledgeable, and as we chatted about local routes she invited me to join the running group associated with the store. She was patient and attentive as I tried on several different pairs to test their comfort and function (on the in-store treadmill, even!) I left with the perfect pair given my gait, foot structure and biomechanics. That is perhaps the greatest difference between buying your running shoes at Marathon Sports and buying them elsewhere- here you will get a personalized shoe fitting, which is crucial for maximum comfort and injury prevention in running. Additionally, the unbiased advice they give you during the selection process makes you feel certain you made the right choice. As a specialty store. I expected the prices to be relatively steep, but this was not the case at all. The cost of pricier items is comparable if not better than what you might find online- with the added advantage of the occasional sale and store coupon. As someone with a limited budget, I have been able to get what I need without breaking the bank. An added note- In this day and age it is easy and tempting for most people to order items such as running gear online, but I would much rather spend my money at this great local company and support their success as well as the town's economy. The other day I ordered an item at their store to be delivered at my home via UPS. When it didn't arrive on the estimated day, the staff helped me track it, and called me back at home with concrete delivery information... Great customer service, even remotely. Every time I have gone in there I have had a pleasant experience and have walked out a very satisfied customer. I got a tip from a runner from another school to go to Marathon Sports and visited them this past Saturday.
