Marathon Village is a historic, repurposed 19th-century automobile factory transformed into a unique complex featuring local shops, restaurants, distilleries, and museums. Located just west of downtown, it houses attractions like Antique Archaeology (from American Pickers), Nelson's Greenbrier Distillery, and the Marathon Motor Works museum. Our visit was relatively brief and was limited to a quick walkthrough, a pen purchase as the Nashville Technical Lounge, whiskey and wine tasting (primarily Gayle and Erin), a Johnny Cash t-Shirt purchase at the "Storyteller" business, a cool look at the vintage cars across the street, and me posing in front of an old Shell Oil gas station. The interior, with its omage to the history of the building, was really cool. Old machine parts and some that were interactive to get a sense of how things worked. There were quite a few shops which made making the trek to the destination feel worth it. There were quite a few shops and distilleries, but overall, not my vibe. read more

This block once housed the Marathon Motor Works company in the early-ish 1900s. Lots of history in this gem of a spot, and I didn't expect to see so many little places to shop! You'll find souvenir shops, distilleries, auto exhibits, retail, candy shops, moonshine shop, a winery, and art shops. It's kid-friendly, but you may not want to have them in tow if you want to indulge in some of the adult beverages. I picked up a few souvenirs, read up on the exhibits, walked through the distilleries, and headed out. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here. Unfortunately, a handful of shops were closed when I came - which is weird, considering it was the weekend around noon. In terms of parking, there's some lots - don't forget to pay. I opted to take a taxi to/from for convenience. read more

Marathon Village is a building that once housed Marathon Motor Works from 1910-1914. The company started in Jackson, Tennessee in 1907. It was the first factory to totally manufacture automobiles in the southern United States and the only one to do so until General Motors made the Saturn in 1990. The Marathon Village was one of the first stops that the Old Town Trolley Tours made. My mother and I decided to get off and check it out. Marathon Village is a unique venue with a variety of small shops, eateries, and distilleries centered around a museum of early automobile production machinery. I love history and this couldn't be a better stop for me. There were unique tools that I used to see when I used to visit my grandmother. It brought back so many memories. Marathon is where marathon motors made cars in the early 1900 . Now there are shops, tastings , restaurants and a small museum there. It is a great place to get some gifts from Nashville. The Grind Switch has amazing tasting ! Tennessee Whiskey has a wonderful free tasting and everything we tried we liked. read more

Sitting between 12th and 14th Street on Clinton Avenue is this beautiful building filled with souvenir shops, local artists studios, clothing stores, delis, candy shops, salons, wineries, breweries and most importantly history relating to the original inhabitant of the building, Marathon Motor Works. While Marathon Village is fairly new, it is already made its spot on the local tour guides routes. Marathon Village has certainly woven itself into the fabric of Nashville, not only as a tourist spot, but also as a local landmark with a far reaching impact on the local creative community. Once inside, you walk through the narrow hallways that feature walls and corridors full memorabilia and artifacts that lend themselves to the origins of the building and surrounding community. In addition to the items, the hallways are lined with shops of all varieties. We were there on a mission to hit up the Music City Creative, a local screen printing shop with fantastic apparel, amazing photo ops and even better service! In addition to this spot, we also hit up a few souvenir shops and poked our head in the winery. Parking can be tough on busy days, just like most things in or near downtown. They have a few spots lining the streets and have a small gravel lot that sits on the side of the building. If neither one of these are not fruitful with open spots, you can always head in one of the nearby paid lots. Overall, we came in on a week day during the mid-morning, so we did not have to deal with the crowds that are mentioned in countless other reviews. Given the nature of some of the stores, especially the American Picker shop, I can see this place being a little overwhelming on the weekends or holiday weekends. Again, we came here for one reason and ended up wondering around a little. As long as Music City Creative is located inside this building, we will visit every time we are in Nashville! read more

The building was originally an auto plant over a hundred years ago and there's some unique auto-related exhibits that are worth a look. There are also some shops (I didn't really check those out) and distilleries and wineries (I did check a couple of those out). I didn't spend a ton of time walking around this place but it's worth checking out for sure and much more low key/chill if you want to get away from the Broadway craziness for awhile. read more

This was a delightful surprise on our 24 hour visit of Nashville. Cute shops but the highlight was just walking around the buildings and seeing all the history of classic car history. The guys loved it. Lots of tools and pictures to look at and touch. VERY well curated! And free read more

A hidden gem away from downtown. You will find at least three distilleries and wine store within walking distance. There are few small shop, and displaying many old machinery from old auto plant. I wish they have stronger A/C during the hot summer day. You can either Uber, tour bus or drive over there. If you are going to have fun or planned for tasting, then you better off with car service. Also, don't forget to walk away the building to check out the old model car. read more

A fun mix of history and local shopping. Throw in some local wine and liquor tasting rooms. On a recent trip to Nashville I was looking for something to do in between all of the eating and found Marathon Village. I'm so glad we made the trip. All of the businesses here are local. Shopping includes clothing, jewelry, gift items, local knickknacks, antiques, home goods, art, and olive oil. There's also a comedy club, winery, salon, two distilleries, coffee shop, a deli, and a candy shop. The variety of businesses is good. A former manufacturing plant, the building has been nicely preserved to have a historical feel. The halls include historical photos and machines to make strolling the shops more interesting. read more

I will never return to this mall. I am severely disappointed with the Parkin scam they have going on there. This was my second visit to this place and it will be my last. Such a shame, it is a beautiful building with a lot of great shops. BUT, I paid $3 dollars to park across the street in a pretty rough, gravel parking lot that used to be free. I spent over $300 in the mall and when I came out, 12 min past my parking time, I had a $47 ticket in my window. REALLY!?!? $47 for 12 min!! For a $3 space? And after I spent several hundred dollars in their shops? I go to Nashville at least once a year, but I will never return to this mall. read more

I loved Marathon Village! I went twice. Once in a tour bus, and once again the day on was leaving , with some friends who live not to far away but had never been ! There's a winery, a brewery, gifts and jewelry. Olive oil store! So delish ! There's more, make sure you leave yourself a lot of time to browse! read more

Stumbled upon this cool place while we were looking through a shop located on the premises.. It is such a cool building full of history and great for my hubby who loves older model cars and the history behind them. If you're looking for baby boomers buying Nashville T-shirt's, this place is for you! Me? I paid $6 to park for 30 minutes and battled hoards of people who are probably fans of "American Pickers" while overhearing baby boomers make rude comments about millennial hipsters. The space is nice, but poorly lit, and the South is littered with old warehouses and factories that have been renovated into mixed use spaces. This one wasn't executed very well. I'm not sure why it showed up on my list of things to do, but I should have done a little more research first. It just wasn't for me. read more

What a cool place. Filled with unique shop tools from early Industrial Age. As a collector/seller of antiques, it was worth the trip and a nice break from downtown. The building has a wide variety of shops and boutiques. We really enjoyed the whisky/moonshine samples. Ended up buying 3 flavors. Chocolate peanut butter whisky. Lemon moonshine and spicy mango moonshine. I really loved the blackberry whisky, but felt I probably wouldn't drink it enough. The Antique Archeology store is what brought us here, but it was a tourist trap. Barely any antiques. 75% American Pickets logo Crap to 25% actual antiques(overpriced). There was also a Jack Daniels sampling place, but we enjoyed the flavored whisky place more. read more

Wednesday, April 16, 2014...This was my third visit to this wonderful historic building the original Marathon Auto Works building..a plant where they actually made the automobiles in Nashville many many many moons ago...The building is gorgeous...you have to go just for the building alone!!! There are several wonderful shops in the building..I love the Bang Candy Store...love love love..I also like the American Pickers Store...Antique Archaeology...expensive but gorgeous...the coffee shop, The distillery ...and some say that Kenny Chesney's office is even here...who knows...maybe I can see Kenny one day!!! Go and check it out..Forget about the neighborhood...and the parking is FREE that is a huge PLUS alone!!! read more

This is a gem! Great place to take anyone interested in car history. Love all the machines on display with lots of old pictures from the manufacturing days. Brought an aunt and uncle here as a siting seeing journey that is inside and air conditioned with unique Nashville history. Cute shops and eateries inside. Antique Archaeology has a store here that is basically a souvenir shop from the American Pickets show...frankly I was not impressed. Lots of Nashville merchants. Harley Davidson and Jack Daniel's are represented here too. This a nice break from Broadway and enjoyable for all ages. There is street parking for free and a couple paid lots across the street. If you are in the mood you can have a visit to the salon or get a tattoo. read more

This is a unique place to stop in during your stay in Nashville. Its an old auto factory and It obviously has some deep roots and would be worth a tour just to get a better understanding of what happen here and why this place is historic. We walked through it our selves. They have nice shops located within, ice cream, coffee, oils, etc. There is 2 distilleries near by. Stop in the Tennessee Legend Distillery, free tastings! I think that this area could be built up and become a hot spot. I would hate to see it get commercialized but unique places should grow around this historic site. Cheap parking around area. An excellent attraction off the beaten path. We did notice it on our trolling tour but it looks like a Warehouse - would have never thought of going inside. Inside one can see various neat antique displays, several quaint shops and tastings for moonshine whiskey and wine. A must see if you're in Nashville Tennessee read more

The old Marathon Motor Works buildings were converted into a space for work/artist studios, boutiques, retail, event venue, and the Corsair distillery. Interesting place to walk around. This is also one of the places with the "I believe in Nashville" mural. read more

What a neat place, that everyone you talk to just down plays--guess people in Nashville want to keep it their secret. This used to be a car factory, and is currently being restored. Lots of interesting artifacts to see and touch. Amazing how they built cars back in the early 1900's. Lots of cute little shops throughout the building, including a sandwich shop, a winery, and a couple distilleries. Upstairs they have some offices and production/recording studios. With being a transplant to Nashville since 2008, I can't claim that I know how the Marathon Village neighborhood has been perceived in the past. What I do know is that since I have moved here, this historical yet functional strip appears to be booming now! Lightning 100 and other business offices have called this renovated building home for a bit and with Corsair Distillery (taking over Yazoo's old space) opening recently to the public, Marathon Village Cafe, and Antique Archaeology all offering really great products and experiences, this is now a destination to flock too. The tasty Bang Candy Company is slated to open very soon and with the much anticipated Marathon Music Works scheduled in mid-November... this area will be on heavy rotation for this girl. read more

Nice touristy shopping, car museum, deli, coffee shop. Was a stop on our hop on hop off bus tour and we needed to walk a bit. Jack Daniels, Harley Davidson, Moonshine, wine tasting, etc... With so much to do in Nashville, I wouldn't go out of my way to get here, but was a nice spot to stretch our legs and get a coffee. (Barista Parlor...recommend, but no decaf, see review) read more

Revived historic area of town with a nice variety of boutiques for the ladies. The museum quality early American machinery will keep the fellas occupied while the ladies shop. While I did see a couple of small sandwich shops, what this area needs is a nice restaurant. read more

During a recent stay in Nashville we thought we would check out "antique archaeology" having watched the show. We drove to marathon village which has plenty of parking. The building itself is historic the old marathon motors factory which is being slowly converted into shops, gallery's etc. The Nashville Pickers shop was very interesting but looks bigger on TV. We had a good look around and took one or two photos. There is a nice gallery across the road but this area is still in development with not too much else there, but it's worth a browse if you are in the area. read more

Maybe I hated this place so much because I actually live here in Nashville. I brought my parents here for Xmas on a rainy day. It is a tourist trap. The stores are full or random overpriced Nashville t shirts and junk. There is a deli but not a lot of other food options (candy is there though). All and all I guess I was just disappointed cause several people have told me it was a cool place. I won't be taking anyone else there, one visit was more than sufficient. read more

As Nashville grows and developers get permits to build 5 houses on one lot*, it's nice to see an effort throughout the metro to rehab abandoned spaces and give them new life. This is particularly apparent in the shopping category. Whether it's Cummins Station, the Factory in Franklin or the coming Factory (?) on Charlotte, there's a lot of life left in the old bones that make up the city and if you do it right, you'll bring business after business and customer after customer. Marathon Village does it right. Marathon has been reborn as both a venue and a shopping center. It succeeds on both fronts. As a venue, it's dramatic, attractive and unique, giving guests plenty of Instragramable real estate. But, I think its real strength is as a shopping center. Odds are (even in Nashville), you're not going to attend a big event on a weekly basis. But, odds are, coffee, lunch, drinks, clothes, beauty, etc. will get you out of the house with more frequency. All of the above and more are housed at Marathon. The weekends find the building particularly crowded with those chasing a TV show or bachelor(ette) parties looking to get an early buzz on. As such, I find myself roaming the halls during the week (my crowd and woo-hoo tolerance are both pretty low). There's a serenity to coming in for a cup of coffee and then wandering the halls to see where you're lead. Despite coming here so often, I am still finding new things to discover about the building and new tenants to patronize. Nashville, let's be smarter about our real estate. Rather than allow the past to fall in to disrepair, look to examples like Marathon Village as ways to connect to days gone by and help us enter the days to come. Age may come before beauty but sometimes they walk hand in hand. *Seriously, City Council? Stop allowing this. It makes no sense, looks terrible and it isn't sustainable. It's hurting the city. read more

Great spot to include on any exploration of Nashville. Rich in history and diverse in food and retail, as well as fascinating business tenants. Great place to explore, learn some things, chill out for a while, and people-watch, since it is a pretty popular spot on the "it city" tourism itinerary. The music venue is one of the best auditoriums in town and a phenomenal sounding room. Plenty of free parking for the savvy driver, but after dark you might be a tad more choosy. read more

Cool place. Love the use for this historic building. It's so cool seeing all the old equipment in the hallways interspersed with shops. I thoroughly enjoyed walking around here, inside and out. We easily found a gravel parking lot right across the street and parked there. There was no charge at that lot. There were quite a few people there but not a lot of cars... most of the people were getting dropped off by trolleys and tour buses. read more

Not really impressive, nice, or friendly. Several stores with crazy high prices. Several stores had employees that could care less to answer questions or talk. Buses were dropping folks off so they probably get huge amounts of traffic reach day and rake in profits. Personally, skip this place and go have fun elsewhere in the city. read more
