Spring Lake Ranch - So many horses here! We were lucky enough to enjoy two horse rides. Stunning experience from the kindest people.

This place is a great little getaway a few hours away from the St. Louis area for camp camping…read more There are tons of options with cabins with Jacuzzi, permanent cabins, and little houses as well to rent. When we arrived at check-in, it was super easy to get checked in and everyone was very kind. They have a store with some small items if you forgot anything. The owners live on site and they let me and my kids go visit their puppies and play in the puppies area/run house. They are very kind and spoke to us often throughout. They even offered to go to the store to pick AA batteries for us and a couple other things instead of us going to the store and purchasing it from them directly that was very kind and going above. The only reason for the four star is, I did call them to get additional towels for the cottage house we rented. Whoever answered the phone had hesitation in their voice, and seemed annoyed that I was asking for extra towels. They asked how many people were in our party because they saw a lot of people.kitchen told them yes we rented the cottage house +3 primitive cabins we had a large party, but we were not over using any space. He thought hesitation in his voice and I explained to him we only had two towels and he was more than welcome to come check if he doubted us he said oh that's strangely usually put four or five in the house I said well, they didn't then they offered to bring more as much as we all spent for the entire weekend. It was a little frustrating how we were treated in that specific scenario. They had paddle boats you could rent and we rented two. It was a decently priced 35 for four hours. They also have horseback riding and a couple other things that you can pay additional for. The cottage was fully stocked. The primitive cabins you do have to bring your own linens, which is clearly stated

However, my check-in experience was incredibly frustrating and ruined the trip for me. Upon pulling up to the Country Store (exactly as the check-in instructions stated), one of the property's loose farm dogs (a Great Pyrenees) began barking and jumping repeatedly on my vehicle, leaving behind scratches down to the primer. I stayed in my vehicle with my dog (who remained calm and quiet) secured in the backseat, as I didn't know if the loose dog was friendly. When the owner, Jonathan, came out, he put the dog up but loudly began blaming me for the damage, stating I should have gotten out to stop his dog or moved my vehicle elsewhere. He made multiple excuses and was very dismissive of the fact that my property was damaged by his unleashed animal. Jonathan ended up walking away and a different man asked me to go inside to check in. Flabbergasted, I proceeded with the check in process even though I didn't get an apology or any concern for what happened or how I'd been treated. The entire ordeal, including the hostility, really just ruined the stay for me and I ended up leaving early the next day. I did get an initial text from Johnathan apologizing and he offered to give me a free next stay and pay for buffing the scratches. I declined another stay, and notified him that I buffed out most of the scratches, but that some had gone through to the primer. I told him I would take care of it and I was not going to send a bill. Dragging this on further, he sent another message attempting to blame me again. This time claiming that my window being cracked a few inches is what caused his livestock dog to bark and scratch my doors. The constant blaming and complete lack of accountability for a guest's damaged property was unacceptable. It is a beautiful property, but proceed with caution, and be prepared for loose dogs and a defensive, unprofessional, owner.

For $5 a person parking/admittance, we joined some others at their campsite for the day. The sites were well-maintained, the rocky beach was clean, and it was a joy to spend the day on the cool river. We didn't need floats, but TRL had them available for rent, had we wanted them. Afterward, we visited the shower houses (which were pretty clean), cooked dinner on our grill, and watched the kids play on the playground. Before returning our day passes, we looked around the general store at the t-shirt, river toys, rafts, and more, followed by two scoops of hard ice cream in waffle cones. I would definitely come back, and I wouldn't recommend this campground to anyone looking to enjoy the river. Tech notes: I had Verizon 4G at the general store and at the campsite, but I was roaming at the river. There are two Pokestops near the general store.

Their equipment is always in excellent condition and their service is great. This trip was exceptional because they had just had a terrible storm over night and the owners had been up all night. The resort water was out, their internet was out. They were still awesome. Even though the river was up and a little fast, we had a great day!

This is a great little retreat or camp place!…read more Came here for a St Clare Hospital function and had never heard of Sunnyhill before. It is situated on over 50 acres in Dittmer, MO. At first this was a little hard to find but once you pull into the property it lays out very nice. There is TONS to do here. Of course I brought all of the kiddos to enjoy the center. They have Archery, Swimming, rock wall climbing, a zip-line, paddle boats/canoeing and of course fishing. We started out by the lake to try and beat the heat. The lake is several acres big but not "large" by any means. It is stocked with at least catfish and bluegill. You are almost guaranteed to catch a fish. Even my 2 year old caught a bluegill. It was all catch and release of course. Next we tried the Zip-line. They stated it goes up to 30 mph which was plenty fast for my 7 year old. She did have to zip with me but that wasn't a problem. You actually zipline over the lake and it was very nice and controlled. We then walked over to the swimming pool and pavilion to take part in the snacks and swim. The pool is about 3 feet in the shallow end and was perfect for the warm day. They did have an inflatable water slide right next to the pool as well. We finished the afternoon with BBQ and snacks. I had the opportunity to meet the director or owner of Sunnyhill and she was very pleasant. Sunnyhill acts as a summer camp for disabled children during 10 weeks in the summer. The camp is overnight so the campers arrive on a Sunday afternoon and stay until Friday night. This provides a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to get a little break during the week. They hire about 27 counselors from all over the world. All of the counselors we met on that day were wonderful. They were very pleasant and excited to be at Sunnyhill for a great cause. It seems Sunnyhill is open also for corporate retreats and other events.
