We are from out of town and decided to meet with a friend for dinner as she lives in Louisiana. After having dinner, we wanted dessert so she said Cold Stone. My kids love Cold Stone. When we arrived, I did not see Cold Stone and my friend said, "it's a similar concept". Ambiance: It's relatively small corner ice cream place in a busy shopping center. There is parking though. Service: Upon arriving, there was a long line so I was wondering what was taken so long when I counted at least four employees behind the counter. As I got closer to place my order, I notice that there are a group of teenage kids that know the kids behind the counter so there was a bunch of chit-chat. Didn't see manager or any type of management at all. We were a big party. A group of seven. We ordered three milkshakes with no whip cream and four small cups. When I received my order that was made in front of me, it was pretty much melted. I didn't think anything of it. My son received his cookies and cream with vanilla and Oreos milkshake. I noticed the lady put whip cream when I specifically requested "no whip cream on my shakes". I didn't want to deal with the hassle because I just wanted to get out. Too much chit-chatting behind the counter. No place to sit. We ate outside. Food: My ice cream was good but mine was melted. I liked the unlimited toppings. That's a nice touch. Health violation: My son that had the shake with whip cream fell ill just hours that night. We said he had a pain in his stomach. I told him to lay down while we get to our hotel. The next morning, he was hunched over on the bed complaining of stomach pain and didn't want to eat anything. I told him to eat breakfast at least and he just had cereal. After an hour after breakfast, he threw up. My son definitely got food poisoning and I believe it was from the whip cream. He was the only one in our party that had whip cream. Marble Slab is one of my favorite ice cream places! I love how you can mix in any toppings you want, including syrups such as caramel sauce or chocolate sauce. Their combinations are endless which makes me keep coming back! I recently tried the chocolate shake which was super delicious. I will say that they are a little on the pricy side so if you're looking for cheap ice cream, I would not go here. Service: Poor customer service on all aspects. I had gone in the lobby and was dumbfounded at the long line. When I had asked if they had a certain flavor - I was instantly accused of mistaking them as another establishment and was scoffed at. I had given the staff (of 5+) the benefit of the doubt for the long line but they proved me wrong when it took them 15 minutes to grab my party of 2 single scoop servings in a cup! When being served the cups of ice cream, they were slid across the counter toward me! Luckily I had caught it. Setting: Everything appeared to be dirty inside. The trash cans both inside and outside the facility was overflowing with used cups to the point that there was a pile forming at its base. Food: I mean, can you really mess up ice cream? I was proved wrong when I had went ahead and tasted mine. My opinions were shortly confirmed when my party had scowled at the taste as well. I've been a Marble Slab patron for years and really like the concept of mixins. Their ice cream is rich and creamy and there are so many flavors and mixin choices. Great idea, poor execution. I came in on a Friday evening with a friend to check this out. I have been to other locations, but it has been awhile. There was quite the line. You have your basic flavors, then you can ask to add your own toppings, for the employee to mix in, or one of their combinations. I asked for their version of the cherry cake, in a small waffle bowl. The gal asked me how to make it. I told her that I did not know, and I could hear the customers behind me in line grumbling. I did not know because I had never ordered this mix before. She looked it up, after rolling her eyes at me. I swear, 3 customers behind me placed their orders, had their orders made, and paid before she had even added the second ingredient to my order. The end result for me was a messy, rapidly melting congealed mess. It was not appetizing at all. All the stars for plenty of parking, and the interior of the store was clean. This is our go-to Matairie ice cream shop. I love that they have sugar free frozen yogurt because I can't usually handle full fat ice cream. I usually get the cookie dough mixed thing and it's delicious. The boyfriend usually picks out some ice cream to make into a shake. The kids behind the counter are hit and miss as far as customer service goes, but the last couple times we've gone, they've been good with being friendly and helpful. read more

I will probably never return to this location... although the ice cream at any Marble Slab is always delicious. The facility here is very dated... it looks straight out of the early 90's and isn't as clean as it should be. We noticed several bugs around the store and floors that obviously had not been cleaned recently. There are too many better options in Metairie to merit a return to this ice cream parlor. BOTTOM LINE: Good ice cream... a dated building that could stand to be cleaned and de-bugged. read more

I went to Marble slab with my daughter and son last night. The two guys working were so helpful and very nice and I ended up tipping five dollars for the great service. The only drawback is I found out that they have some flavors in the back that are not on display, had I not asked for a certain flavor (mint choc chip) I wouldn't know that they sell it. I did get the coconut ice cream for myself and it tasted like freezer burn. It really wasn't good. This was the first trip I've made to this location for at least a couple of years and needless to say I wasn't impressed with the quality of the ice cream. If I could change some things about this place I would like the place to be little brighter inside at night because it is very dark. Also, I would love to see more ice cream flavors on display rather than finding out that they keep them in the back of the store. read more
