Not the best clinician. After bringing images, he did not look at them and insisted on his diagnosis. I did the PRP anyway because I was desperate. His injections helped a little temporarily. He also urged me to exercise the very areas which were affected by my condition. After finding appropriate specialists, they urged me to take it very easy after seeing my imaging and discussing my symptoms. I tried to do the very exercises he suggested and I only got more burning and then weakness. I feel Darrow has a blindly positive attitude and treats the mind, so I have seen the fruits of some of my mental focus now, but he is a clinician of the physical body also, and at that he failed for me. read more

Nearly a year ago I limped into Dr. Darrow's office after 5 years of severe hip pain and limitations. I am a martial arts master teaching about 10 blocks away and was searching for herbal remedies to my hip pain, that 3 doctors said needed a hip replacement. Then "Stem Cells" popped up and I was excited to learn of revolutionary treatments for the hip (and any joint)! Everything about Dr. Darrow and his staff is top notch and professional. I was walking with a painful loud clicking in the joint from a torn labrum and was bone on bone. Dr. Darrow recommended multiple stem cell injections, and I began on my first visit. After my third injections (about 7 weeks, things started to change). the clicking went away and I was nearly in tears walking pain free! Now, 10 months later, I am not ruling out more visits , but one thing that is absolutely out of the question, is a TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT. The procedure is not covered under insurance, so you will need at least $5000 to see if it works. You would probably pay more than that on your deductible for a hip replacement. For those of you considering a hip replacement and think it is safe, I would do some research, Sepsis, cracked bones, metallosis (look it up), continuous pain, and amputations may be in store for you. I am upset that some people have written negative reviews without even trying the procedure (or only trying it once). Of course your conventional Doctor is going to tell you it doesn't work, He has $100,000 coming his way for cutting you open. I ruptured a tendon in my ring finger on my dominant hand in a freak accident and had to have surgery to repair the damage. I was treated by Dr. Darrow for tendonitis in m¥ wrist with PRP. M¥ pain, going in ranged from 3-8. After the injection the pain declined quickly to 0-3 and has continued to improve, over a two week period, to 0-2, with most o9f the time being at a zero. They showed a real interest in my problem and gave me very clear instructions on what they would do and how to take care of myself after the injection. I can highly recommend them. Dr. Darrow is the most honest doctor that you will find! I was lucky to hear his radio show on the weekends and I even called in a few times before going for my consultation. Unfortunately, I was not a candidate for his services. However my consultation was an informative session and well worth the visit to his office in Brentwood. He and his staff were extremely thoughtful and spent over 1 hour testing my body and answering every question that my father and I had for him. The office was clean and the machines and equipment looked like the latest cutting edge devices. I wish I was a candidate for the stem cell or prp but I had a bone tumor and PVNS disease of the hip which had already grown into my acetabulum and groin area. I had a second opinion from the Kerlan-Jobe clinic, Kaiser Permanente and they both agreed with Dr. Darrow's initial diagnosis. Other places such as UCI Medical Center and Hoag Hospital completely missed the PVNS and didn't even know what it was or how to identify it in the MRI/MRA's that I had completed. I highly recommend meeting with Dr. Darrow and really considering his treatment methods before going for a surgery. He is an honest man and if you are not a candidate he will not do you any harm. I began running in 1980 and have completed over 25 marathons, 13.1 races, 10k's, you name it. After the 2014 LA Marathon I experienced severe pain and chronic swelling in the right knee during a "recovery" run. This began a long journey of orthopedic visits, physical therapy consultations, sports medicine opinions, acupuncture and even a depressing conversation with a noted sports radio doctor. An MRI and exam revealed lateral and medial meniscus tears, along with a bakers cyst, arthritis and patella tracking issues. The advice varied--surgery, an eventual knee replacement, and other bad news. Every professional told me the same thing about running "its over--find something else to do". If you are a runner yourself, or a very active person you understand how devastating it is to hear this from the medical community. However, I was not willing to accept the "degeneration" label pinned on me and researched constantly. The idea of never running again was not acceptable. I began PRP treatments in 2015 and I wish I would have started sooner. The experience with Dr. Darrow was exceptionally positive from the consultation to the treatments. I hurt my left shoulder one day in kickboxing and an MRI showed I had 4 tears--one in my labrum and 3 in the rotator cuff. I was in so much pain that I could barely lift my left arm! Appears that the problem runs in the family since my brother just had surgery for tears in the same shoulder. After seeing him go through very painful physical therapy sessions to regain movement in his shoulder, I decided to look for alternative, non-surgical methods for recovery. I'm a male in my late 40's. I had been suffering from a herniated lumbar disc for over a year and a half. Originally, surgery was recommended, but since the original injury, my herniation was down to 4mm and the doctor no longer recommended surgery. Problem was, if I bent over to pick something of the floor, that would have me suffering for a three weeks with lower back pain and of course sciatica. My neighbor had mentioned prolotherapy to me multiple times, she apparently knew about it from her line of work, and told me she had recommended 20+ people to Dr Darrow and the vast majority reported great improvement. She also said Dr Darrow was honest if he felt he couldn't help someones condition since several of the people she recommended had visited Dr Darrow, but he said prolotherapy would unfortunately not work. Being skeptical, I did some research on my own, and found a coworker who had suffered from tennis/volleyball elbow for a decade (he was about age 50) who tried prolotherapy w/ a doctor in Orange County. 'Coworker said that he had stopped playing volleyball for a couple years and pain was constant. He said after several months of treatment, his pain was gone. His doc said don't use arm for another couple months, just let it heal. Coworker said that he had 100% recovery (his prolo was 2 years back) and has been playing sports again for last 2 years w/ no problem. I was looking at coworker in disbelief and he said "yeah, I know, long-term chronic injury and you think it's this way for life, but my elbow feels like it did 20 years ago". So, at this point, I went and saw the Dr my coworker went to. That Dr would treat most joints, but didn't do backs because backs are kinda tricky. So I gave Dr Darrow a try. I brought my MRI's and had initial appt, and Dr Darrow said prolo would improve my condition. I chose Dr Darrow because he'd been doing prolo for a long time and also teaches it. As with any health care professional, you want to go to someone who's been doing something over a decade so they got most the mistakes out of their system. I did a total of 8 sessions of prolo on my lumbar: 4 sessions, 1 week apart, then a 2 or 3 week break, then another 4, 1 week apart. The injections didn't really hurt to my surprise (or course, once you've lived w/ debilitating sciatica for a couple years, any other pain seems like nothing). During the 2nd set of 4, I could tell things were improving. I can now do house work again (cleaning the bathroom) and yard work. I don't of course lift heavy things, but it's not like it was last year, where any kind of bending to pick something off the floor would cause spasms and intense sciatica for a month. Given that my condition had been constant for a year and a half, I can say that it was the prolo therapy that provided the improvement. I may go back for a final 4 sessions to see I can get a little more improvement. If you are considering epidural steroid injections, I'd strongly recommend prolotherapy 1st. I'd also recommend Dr Darrow. The reason: Darrow's got a decade+ experience so he's unlikely to make a mistake and when prolo doesn't work, it does no harm. read more

I noticed an almost 100% improvement in my lower back after injuring it by over-training for a half marathon - after the platelet (Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) therapy. I discovered the Darrow Stem Cell Institute as I searched for every possible way to rehabilitate my knee, which I injured while playing basketball. I previously had arthroscopic surgery to partially resect the lateral meniscus which was torn due to the injury. I have SPONDYLOSIS, BURSITIS OF HIP, SPINAL STENOSIS OF LUMBAR SPINE, MYALGIA, NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASE and neuropathy in both feet and both hands. I was referred to Dr Darrow to see if stem cell could help me. My first appointment was in Sept 2018 for consultation and possible treatment for PRP. I was very satisfied with the first treatment so I had a second treatment 2 weeks later. I did notice a little improvement, however I have suffering my lower back (since 2006) and neck (since 2016), I had PRP treatment on my neck and spine. Showing a small improvement, to me meant that there is some possibility that more improvement can happen. So this month (Feb. 2019) I went back to Dr. Darrow to have the umbilical stem cell treatment in my neck and lower back, it has only been 3 days and I am noticing improvement. After doing a lot of research on stem cells I found Dr Darrow. He is amazing the only person I would let do stem cell treatments on me. I had my first stem cell injection done in July of 2018 and my second stem cell treatment done in August of 2018 for my right knee which I had had surgery on in December of 2018 and was still in excruciating pain after having surgery and 5 months of physical therapy. An MRI showed that my right knee still has some tears in the meniscus. The only thing that has helped me has been the stem cell treatments that Dr Darrow did for me. For me, it's a miracle! I selected Dr. Darrow for treatments for my aged arthritic knee because of his expertise in this rather new field. I had a successful total knee replacement on my right leg two years ago. My internist suggested the stem cell therapy might work for me after he had checked out the Darrow Stem Cell Institute. Following the intake consultation, Dr. Darrow thought this therapy might help me. He made it clear that there were no guarantees plus the fact that insurance (Medicare) would not cover it. I agreed, and a kind and gentle tech drew some blood and ran it through a centrifuge. Dr. Darrow, with help from the ultrasound, injected these platelets into My Left Knee. Two weeks later, he drew stem cells from by pelvic bones, ran them through the centrifuge, and injected the cells into my knee. He duplicated each of these procedures bringing my treatment to two platelet and two stem cell injections over eight weeks. I left on a trip where I walked a great deal. Dr. Darrow is the best! Everything done in one day. I've had PRP treatments at various times for both shoulders, neck, both knees, and most recently lower back. The treatments work well for me. My husband and I met with Dr. Darrow today to see if he would be able to help with my husband's chronic upper back pain. I will admit that I was skeptical going in....... Dr. Darrow was rude and arrogant to me. From my experience I don't understand all these glowing reviews. He did what he wanted, didn't look at the images, reports, and didn't listen because he knows best. I really don't get it. In fact my first post was removed and possibly reported by him. I'm assuming he reports all the reviews that aren't good enough. He likes to talk about his book and his accomplishments too. I have been listening to Dr. Darrow on the radio for several months on 870am, his treatment of injuries sound effective. After severely straining my right arm and elbow from moving and being in constant, aching pain I thought I would try his treatment since the prednisone my doctor prescribed only reduced the swelling. I am so grateful to Dr. Darrow for the treatment, after the first visit the pain in my elbow that shot up my shoulder is 100% gone. At the second visit he treated my right forearm, 70% of the pain was gone. I just had another treatment today. I could not recommend him more highly. Taking pills to mask the pain from the injury is not the answer. Dr. Darrow's treatments have resolved my injuries without any pain medication. read more

If only every doctor was like Dr. Darrow. I can't think of any other doctor who is willing to invest so much time talking to patients and answering their questions. Dr. Darrow truly has a passion for helping his patients heal. If you are in pain, I strongly suggest you at least investigate PRP and/or Stem Cell injections. If you look into these procedures, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least talk to Dr. Darrow. I don't think you will find another doctor with as much experience in this field as Dr. Darrow. My son is a high school pitcher who went to Dr. Darrow after months of pain in his throwing arm. Over the summer he was diagnosed with a small tear in his UCL. Fortunately it was not big enough to even consider Tommy John surgery. The orthopedist we were seeing suggested months of rest and physical therapy and if that did not work we could try PRP. After a long layoff, the arm improved, but not 100% as there was still pain when throwing from certain arm slots. My son did not want to have another long layoff and roll the dice that this time would be different and time and physical therapy would do the trick. He wanted to do something proactive, so we started to seriously investigate PRP. This Orthopedist practice we were seeing although very well respected, was new to PRP and only had one doctor in their practice starting to use PRP. This was a concern, since I did not want my son to be part of this doctors learning curve. This is when I found Dr. Darrow. We emailed him and he actually responded - I don't know of any doctors who respond to emails and do it quickly. After several emails back and forth answering many of my questions, we decided to have an office consultation. During the initial office visit, we decided to have the procedure done. However, the procedure we decided on was not PRP. Instead, we opted for Stem Cell injections. I was amazed that my son was able to get the injections on this visit. Base on my experience with other doctors, I was expecting to make another appointment weeks if not months out in the future. My son was so glad to have the injections done right away and not delay the road to recovery. I am now glad to report that he is back to pitching pain free with better velocity than ever! Now I know why so many MLB pitchers are opting for PRP or Stem Cells rather than go under the Tommy John knife. This is the new frontier for medicine and we are so fortunate to have a pioneer in this field in Southern California. read more

This is a one-year followup. It's almost a year since our last treatment. I had a PRP and stem cell injection (two separate visits) into my right knee. My daughter, who is a scholarship basketball player in college, had two PRP injections. The results have been remarkable. My daughter played her final season, starting 34 games and averaging about 30 minutes a game. No issues. This is an athlete who missed her first two college seasons because of sore knees, bone bruises in her knees, and chronic swelling in her knees. So before her junior year, every summer, we began PRP treatments with Dr. Darrow, and she finally was able to play. She played three full years (she was a 5-year senior) and each season her knees actually got better, with the final season being the best -- no swelling and no pain. In my case, the MRI showed arthritis, thinning articular cartilage, ragged meniscus, and a partially torn ACL. My right knee would swell if I even thought of playing basketball or if I walked up too many stairs. However, after the PRP and stem cell injection in the summer of 2016, the knee is stronger than it has been in decades. I can play pickup games of basketball, do squats, walk miles as a tourist day after day. It's not a perfect knee, but it's so much better. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't swell. So I believe in the treatments. And I believe Dr. Darrow is an expert in this field. He is friendly, professional, kind, and skilled. His office staff is great. My daughter was very anxious about the injections, and his patience, understanding, and kindness were impressive and genuine. Dr. Darrow and Michele are the best! I have a history of atlantoaxial instability that led me to the chiropractor often. My C1 was in California and my C2 was in Texas!
