Of all the reviews of services and products I've ever left, this is the first time I've genuinely wished I could post more than five stars. 6, 10, 50, 1000. As high as I could go. We'll start with the office. Quick responses, easy scheduling, short wait times for appointments, always seen on time. Great communication. Then the doctor. It had been a years long journey of pain and helplessness, and within a minute of talking to him, I felt completely reassured that things were finally about to get better. He told me I was a great candidate for surgery, but of course you want to exhaust all other options first so he sent me to pain management and PT. The referrals went through quickly and when those options were tried and failed, he brought me back in and scheduled the surgery for one month out. From then on, I had a contact in the office who was always available to answer questions about prep and timelines and post op, etc. My insurance wanted to put me in a crap hospital, and he personally went to bat with them and convinced them to cover the surgery at one of the best hospitals in the state. The surgery was executed to perfection. It was a big one. Eight hours of which could only be described as a reconstruction of my spine.They had me up and walking immediately after the surgery, (which I have absolutely no recollection of), but I spent five days in the hospital, walking around more and more each day. They sent me home in a big back brace. I stayed with family for two nights and approximately one week after the surgery I was back home living on my own. Now I'm a month out and he just cleared me to resume full activity and to start PT. Oh, and I should probably mention that the surgery worked! All my pain is gone! I've got the spine of an 18 year old! Not only that but the incision (which was massive. Probably close to 2 feet long) is totally healed. There's almost no sign of it. I was expecting (maybe hoping, yeah, I'm that kind of guy) to have a nice juicy scar, but it's gonna heal up like nothing ever happened. I was in intense, chronic pain for years and it's gone! just now New Dr Nagasawa is a miracle worker. I had spinal fusion surgery of L4,5 S1and laminectomy of L4,5 on February 17.2026. The fact that i was able to walk the same day straighter and taller than before the surgery was amazing. He and his staff are the best. I had gone for opinions to give other doctors but Dr Nagasawa was so gentle and compassionate and spent the time to walk me through the process and what would be better for me. I had sciatic pain 5 years ago. He did Discectomys on 6 levels & removed Lamina. I said can't u just do a couple at a time. But he had my best interest I guess. 2024 I couldn't grow muscle I grew tumor (scar tissue) 8/2025 - On L3- S1 -Severe Foraminal Stenosis & Stage 4 ddd. He told me on phone to get another MRI. I found out my Dr. Died. I was so weak & in pain I asked ER please give me a MRI. I lost feeling in feet, then leg hurt, then knee! I had to sleep in my car cuz stairs to home torture. My 3rd attempt to get MRI & mostly Help! At this point I could barely walk. I bought some whiskey & drank it to walk in to ER. Dr came out I said please help me I've been sleeping in my car I miss my home. He dismissed me & wrote I was homeless! I went in the Cafeteria it was late but open. I love getting the food there. Hour later walked to parking structure, i usually would've slept in car after doing an errand. But Receptionist had security guards waiting for me. They were behind me when I was going to car. They said just making sure u leave. Idk why, so I left. I saw tons of cop cars waiting for me. I pulled in gas station. They made me do tests handcuffs, sitting on bumper I was dying. My bones are being crushed. My Spine isn't letting nerves through, it's not sending signals to my legs knees. They dropped me off at another hospital. Lady never gave me water. Turned water fountain off. No Dr ever saw me. I walked out 5 hours later. Both my knees are crushed now. I'm gonna die. I did order n pay for my own MRI & I went to my appt finally to see Khoshla who I thought was wonderful. But ladies came in talking to him I never got to. My rescheduled appt 2 weeks later. I couldn't make it. I haven't been able to go anywhere again. Then I read about an IV that had inflammation to help the nerves get through. I had to try. I love life. I wanted to live so bad. I've been so lethargic. I was willing to do whatever it took to get my nerves moving. Cuz the pain is awful. I got to different hospital & told the nurse the truth. I tried whatever it took to save my life. Well, I'm 56 years old & I tried drugs to save my life. Since I told him that, they ignored me. They were cruel. I got home & called my surgeons office to ask him if he could save my life. A lady got on phone the Mgr. Said I wasn't welcome there anymore. On January 14,2026 i was admitted to St Johns Hospital in Santa Monica,California. I walked in freely and in fairly decent health minus the rib and back pain i was experiencing due to a cervical issue as it was explained to me by my prior visits to Dr. Deven Khosla at Achieve Brain And Spine in Santa Monica, California. I was prepped and surgery took place. When i awoke i found i could not feel most of my left arm, part of my right arms and my legs were numb. Having thought i had a stroke they performed stroke tests including a brain scan. It was determined that it was not a stroke but as Dr. Khosla explained to me it was most likely a nerve decompression issue from the 2 cervical implants. Dr. Khosla explained to me initially the implants they wanted to use were too small for my cervical replacement and he had to go to the largest available. Why the size wasn't determined prior to surgery by the multiple xrays and ct and mri scans i was put through i do not know. It was decided that due to the extreme pain and weakness from the first surgery it was necessary to go in a posterior surgery in the spine to remove bone spurs that were still existing. Why this wasn't determined prior, or during the first surgery, also i do not know. Whether these existed or were caused by the anterior surgery on January 14, i do not know? It is important to note i developed a staph Aurelius infection while in the hospital under the care of St.John that was being treated with antibiotics while i remained in the hospital. I needed to address this prior to a second surgery scheduled for January 27, 2026. The first surgery was scheduled for a one night stay ended up being a 3 night stay. PT wanted me to go to acute care but i preferred not to, as previous acute care inpatient experiences were not good and as later i found out the injury actually caused needed a special spinal chord injury acute center care. I returned on the 27th through the emergency room admission on the 26th for a 27th surgery. The surgery ended up not being performed until late that night. Again the pain was way worse after this surgery and again i ended up having to stay multiple nights. I was put on steroids as a possible help to relieve the pain and numbness. This steroid caused a terrible thrush for which they put me on another medication to resolve. I was then released to home care on a walker with extremely limited use of arms, hands and legs and extreme pain. I was released to home healthcare for the next few months and once again when tested by the home health nurse, i had staph Aurelius and sores under my right arm and on my right foot. Once again i was put on antibiotics. Eventually i opted for outpatient PT in order To get more care and equipment to try and help Me regain strength and to walk again. I did not realize that this stopped all inpatient home healthcare, so i now i needed to find new doctors to address foot sore, arm sore and extreme pain care. I saw Dr. Khosla 2 more times without any resolve. I know he was receiving PT health reports. After my additional visits i never once heard from Dr. Khosla's office to check in and see if there had been any improvement or to offer alternative solutions. It was at this point i researched new neurosurgeons to take over care having lost faith in Dr. Khosla and his practice. I ended up at USC Keck Medicine with Dr. Hsieh after he was recommended by an MRI tech that had been ordered by I was also seeing pain management doctors in order to deal with the absolutely debilitating pain i was having in my arms, hands, shoulders, back and legs now as well as continuing bladder and bowel issues that occurred from the first surgery on January 14. I was on opioids at this point which left me dizzy, foggy and unable to perform most daily functions. I decided to moved to a new USC Keck pain management program which addresses the nerve pain with an alternative non opioid medicine and protocol. At this point i am in extreme pain still that is debilitating and keeps me from most activity beyond PT in order to keep moving and hoping for some form of relief. I still have never heard from Dr. Khosla and his office to see how i am doing. But they got paid. I an still on a walker appointment at Casa Colima which is a therapy clinic 40 minutes from me that specializes in spinal chord injuries. It has taken 3 months to get an appointment read more

Good surgery but could have found the problem faster because now damage is permanent.

I was referred to Dr Khosla by my primary, after I had fractured two vertebra . I agree that he has a great bedside manner and that his office staff is cheerful. BUT he was not successful as a surgeon. Now, almost 3 years later, I still cannot stand up straight and walk without pain. Had pt, as directed, and all he could say months post surgery was "I am sorry". No, I, the patient, am sorry, as this condition has totally changed by mobility and outlook, not for the better. read more

I can't even begin to express the depth of my gratitude for Dr. Nagasawa and his staff. I suffered in the worker's comp system for several years with little to no help and felt like nobody cared. After being released from that awful system and by the grace of God, I found Dr. Nagasawa. He gave me a proper diagnosis of Cervical Myelopathy, which is compression of the spinal cord in the neck. Dr. Nagasawa is a miracle worker. I had been living with back pain for years. Over and over again, I would hear the risks of spine surgery so I was reluctant to consider it. Then, my right thigh started to atrophy and my primary care doctor recommended that I see Dr. Nagasawa. I've seen a lot of surgeons in the past few months to gather information on how best to move forward with a chronic back pain & nerve issue I have. I came in with my MRI images, an MRI report, and PT reports. It felt as if Dr. Nagasawa barely spent any time reviewing my images. While all the other doctors could clearly see the issue with my spine and took the time to walk me through what was causing my pain, Dr. Nagasawa told me nothing was wrong and to go back to physical therapy (I've already been in physical therapy for a year with no progress). I pressed for more information but it was like pulling teeth. It was almost as if he didn't want to take on another patient so he just sent me on a way. Dr. Nagasawa saved my life again! Not only did he perform a stellar surgery on my cervical spine ACDF but 6 months later I needed surgery on my lumbar spine. He performed a TLIF. Of course I trust him so much that he was the only one I would consider to do my second surgery. He is a true genius. And guess what one month after my second surgery I had a bad car accident, it wasn't my fault as I was stationery turning left, and I was so worried my spine would have been compromised. I was rushed to ER and had full CT scans with contrast. Guess what the surgery sites were unscathed and no internal bleeding. I'm over the moon with Dr. Nagasawa. First let me say I'm terribly afraid of doctors, I've been living with back pain for 8 years. I tried everything to avoid surgery because I didn't trust that I would be a success story. I had the worst sciatic pain, I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes at the end. Why this is the best Spine & Surgery office.... The past 544 days I have been on a journey of trying to live with paralysis. Each day brings a new challenge. As a patient of Dr. Khosla I can't say enough about him and the staff including how amazing Nicole & flor. Because of the titanium in my neck an MRI doesn't show so I needed to do a CT mylogram. Because I am paralyzed many facilities including hospitals turned me down even with offering to sign release forms, bring my own hoyer lift & medical staff. I am extremely easy going. I can't say enough about Flor. She worked with me for 4 months insurance approves Place approves Pre-op everything okay. I am paralyzed oh it's okay get their turned down. Again & again and again: I started to get deflated then flor found a hospital that said yes, but wasn't part of my insuranceinsurance. Lol. She was able to get insurance to sign a contract with a Hospital to do this. I can't say enough about her and how amazing she is. I called them I spoke to Angela who was amazing. I needed to do a physical with my doctor and my history, I'm scheduled for an appointment in March. It is very important to figure out the next step for therapy or possible implant or whatever just like a broken car, I keep on tinkering. The doctors Dr. Khosla & Dr. Nagasawa are amazing. Truly! But don't for a second think you will not need the staff! Both Nicole & Flor are magnificent & epic! The best of the best. Let me start by saying, Dr. Nagasawa is amazing and very nice. The whole office is great, one of the best I've seen in LA. For about 14 months I have had terrible sciatica pain down my left leg caused by a herniated disc around my L4-L5. I couldn't walk or stand for longer than 5 minutes w/o this shooting pain from my lower back to my foot. After 2 epidural injections, multiple PT sessions and NO relief, Dr. Nagasawa suggested the minimally invasive laminotomy. I was a little nervous because anything dealing with the back seems painful, but he was very reassuring. Another thing I was appreciative about was, he didn't immediately recommend surgery. Immediately after the surgery, I had instant relief. I am now 6 weeks out and feeling so much better, no more sciatic pain and about to start rehabbing. Dr. Nagasawa is an excellent doctor and surgeon. He practically saved my life. I went in to see him for a consultation for my back but was in shock when he said my neck needed immediate attention. Apparently I had very tittle room in my neck for the main nerve running in my spine. He said an accident could cause paralysis from the neck down if this was not fixed right way. I scheduled the surgery immediately. Now 7 weeks after my surgery I feel perfectly fine. No pain whatsoever. Been seeing Dr Khosla for over a year and he is every nice and caring. Great bedside manners. Very educated and the nurse staff is great as well. They do a thorough exam. However the places they refer me to suck, but that's my insurance fault. The receptionist's are nice as well and I am able to get an appointment fast. Dr. Nagasawa is an exceptionally gifted and skillful spine surgeon as well as a true gentleman. He performed C6-C7 cervical disk replacement surgery on me and repaired my herniated disk. From the initial consultation to post-operative care, Dr. Nagasawa has been compassionate and genuinely concerned about my well-being and how I was feeling. He took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure and patiently answer all my (many) questions. Dr. Nagasawa and his entire team are amazing, and have changed my life forever. I have been in severe back pain for years and finally after 2 years of not sleeping and the pain being unbearable I went to see him. I am so glad I did. I had bilateral par defects of L5 on S1. Basically broken bones that needed a fusion. I was EXTREMELY nervous with my worst fear being paralysed or dying. How silly this seems to me now after having a surgery done with the amazing care that he took of me. He was so kind to me answering all my questions even with me expressing that my worst fear was going to be death. I could not have asked for any better of a surgeon or human being than him, as his bedside manner is just as amazing as his gifts as a surgeon. I would absolutely recommend him to my family without a hesitation and would go back to him if something else happened with my spine. Both of his PAs were also amazing throughout the entire process with helping me with letters to my employer to accommodate me to refilling prescriptions. I am of course still in recovery going onto four months and doing well with only recovery muscle pains now and then which is to be expected. 10/20 Post Op: Surgery went well. Dr Nagasawas Associate physicians are capable and caring as he while you are in patient . Responsive after surgery when we put in a call to check to see if the things i was experiencing were normal and given great advice that immediate remedies pain / discomfort . The hardest part of this surgery is the throat swelling . I've gotten a significant amount of pain relief i was experiencing before surgery so i would recommend it, post op its uncomfortable but not unbearable . The brace, that's unbearable. It simply doesn't fit me and i've been fit twice with two sizes , will be having a consult with Hanger Prosthetic to see if there is a better choice for my anatomy . Even though adjustable it hits me in all the wrong places and causes more pain than it's revolving . My fiancé is doing everything so plan on having help at home , even brushing your cat is difficult . Overall it's been a great experience with Dr Nagasawa. I'm glad I took this leap and I'm glad that it was he who performed the surgery . Follow up appointments are easy to make . I highly recommend Acheive Brain & Spine. 9/2020 I have chosen Dr Nagasawa to perform my ACDF surgery . He is very clear in explaining the procedure, didnt get offended when i asked a giant list of questions that i carefully researched. I vetted several surgeons prior to picking Dr Nagasawa , this decision is more then an In network provider decision. First, Dr Nagasawa practice was the first that i could find ZERO negative pre or post experience and I did my due diligence . This office has the best reputation in Los Angeles. I have complications, and most surgeons won't listen, they think they are God, but I'm a patient very in touch and active with their healthcare and healing processes . I had a bad pain in my right leg and lower back and after seeing the Dr he explained to me that this herniated disc at L4/L5 is causing my leg pain even. After seeing Dr Nagasawa and Dr Khosla I decided to have a surgery to remove the herniated disc, surgery was so smooth and it gave me a good experience as my first surgery ever, I could be able to walk right after and went home three hours after walking up. In about a week most of the surgery pain was gone and slowly I started to get back to normal life, right now after a month and a half I go to gym and do most of my stuff by myself.
