I have been suffering with pain in my right buttock and also in my lower back. The lower back has been there for 12 years since I had a riding accident. MRI showed a slipped vertebrae L5 over S1. I was told by the surgeon at the time that I might have back pain issues. This pain happens only once or twice a year after bending over and trying to straighten up maybe to quick or at an odd angle. I would go for acupuncture treatment and all was fine after a couple of days. The newer pain I acquired in my right buttock about 2 years ago. Thought I had a hip problem but the MRI showed that was fine and since the pain didn't go down my leg it wasn't sciatica nerve. Basically I created this pain by using the Stairmaster to much at the gym. After a rest period I switched to elliptical and my pain went away. Fast forward to a 2 months ago. Feeling good and not thinking about the past I went back on the stairmaster. All was fine for a month and then the pain returned in my buttock. At the same time I had an episode with my lower back pain bending over to pick up some heavy wood. I proceeded to Acupunture and although it really relieved the pressure it only lasted for 2 days. I would repeat for 2 more visits and same results. So I tried a chiropractor wellness clinic. 2 visits. Good people but no real change. Tired of this I decided to try something else. I have 3 people from work that had personally tried Prolo therapy and PRP therapy with good success. Two of them as far back as 15 years. I have listened to Dr Marc Darrow on the radio and liked his approach to body pain. I called their office and made an appointment to see Dr Darrow. The staff is very professional and everything went smooth. Showed up on the day of my appointment and after being prepped met with Dr Darrow for my exam of the pain areas. After he checked me out he determined that my pain was coming from over used tendons. Surprised I asked if stem cell therapy would work for me. He said yes it should. Everyone is different but past experience has shown good results. So I had my procedure done that day. Everything went well and I was able to leave on my own and drove myself home. I had shoulder issues starting in September of 2017. MRI showed high grade partial tear in the supraspinatus tendon and superior posterior labrum tear. I had full active and passive range of motion with my shoulder. I had almost no pain except during a throwing motion. It wasn't bad but it was enough that it affected me playing basketball and lifting weights so I decided to try Dr. Darrow and the prp treatment. I had two treatments of prp two weeks apart. It has now been 3 months since the first treatment and my shoulder is way worse than when I started the treatment. I very much regret doing the treatment. At least I was in no pain before. Now I have constant pain, limited range of motion, have pain sleeping. After 3 months of suffering and almost $2k out of pocket I scheduled for surgery. My thought was...it couldn't hurt to try. After the second treatment I waited to see how my body responded, and something didn't feel right so I waited a little longer hoping that at least I would get back to where I was before I started treatment. It never got better and is not getting better. You know your body listen to it. I was taken by all the positive reviews on yelp and it made me try it. Im a little perplexed by how so many (almost all) the reviews are glowingly positive. However what you find if you were to do a lot of reading and talking to doctors and orthopedic surgeons is that the research is inconclusive and the jury is still out. Some studies show that it works and some show no effect and everything in between. This seams to be the agreement among the medical community, really. Anyways, I can go on and on but the bottom line take-a-way is that there IS a risk to this, there IS a cost to it. I feel like the reviews are a little unbalanced or skewed because it doesn't reflect the reality of the research and the opinions of many of prominent doctors and surgeons. So I'm a little confused how these reviews are 99% positive. Most doctors as mine was, are not against trying prp but they recognize that it's not a cure all. I visited Dr. Marc Darrow on Monday, June 15 to evaluate my lower back as well as my left hip. I have had problems with both for sometime now and have been unable to golf which I have done 2 to 3 times a week for the past 20 years. Due to the pain in those areas I've visited several doctors who based on MRI imaging recommended left hip replacement. However is it the imaging that they referred to that was causing the pain with something that I've had since I was in my teens which is over 60 years ago. During that intervening periodI never had any problems with my back or lower hip until I had bilateral knee replacement which changed my gaitAnd stressed out areas previously that caused me no problems. I came to Dr. D with terrible lower back pain and diagnoses of severe arthritis, disc narrowing and spondylolithesis. I've came to Dr. Darrow 3 times now for treatment on both of my knees. At the time of my first prp injections I was 22 years years old with a torn acl in my left knee and ruptured patella in my right, and have had significant improvements over the last year. Since my treatments I have been able to return to normal activities and have had a decrease in pain. If you are just looking to decrease pain or discomfort It's very worth it, but if you are looking to return to any sports or physical activity it will definitely take more than one treatment to get back to 80-100%. I tore the labrum (cartilage) in my right hip doing Crossfit and an ortho doctor recommended labral tear surgery. This surgery has a 4-6 month recovery process and an uncomfortably low success rate. This is a follow-up review. I had arthroscopic knee surgery in March of 2015, results were not good. I continued to have some pain and severe stiffness. I was told that nothing more could be done, I just had to live with it. In June/ July of 2018 I had the first of three stem cell injections by Dr. Darrow, after a month or so my pain disappeared and the stiffness was relived and eventually it too disappeared. It is now July 2022, I am 87 years young, I still workout at the gym, work on my old cars and feel great, thanks to Dr. Darrow. After much research, I selected Dr. Darrow to treat my knee with stem cell injections. The staff was courteous and pleasant. Dr. Darrow explained everything to my satisfaction. Long time posting but here it is. I went in several months ago for PRP injection on foot and knee. It did take a long time but it seems to have worked. The only issue i have is with his location and parking. He is in Beverley Hills and I'm in OC which means about a 2 /1/2 hour drive both ways even at non peak traffic time. Then there is parking. I've had a left knee issue for years, and basically "compensated" by putting almost all my weight on the right knee during all sports, for 4-5 years now. Finally, after trying various other therapies and supplements, I started to accept the fact that maybe I'd need to find another option for the knee, although I abhorred the thought of surgery. An MRI resulted in a diagnosis of a torn meniscus, and the prognosis was that only surgery could make a difference. On the advice of a chiropractor, I looked into prolotherapy. Perhaps my greatest phobia is needles, so imagining a needle in my knee was terrifying. I actually am pouring sweat every time a nurse even draws my blood. So, psychologically, meeting with and then getting treated by Dr. Darrow was one of the toughest things that I've ever done. I'll spare all the details, but suffice to say that getting the blood drawn, and then later, getting the injection in the knee were virtually pain-free. Per my request, they used a topical anaesthetic on the knee, which I think I helped a lot. After the first session, the knee was slightly swollen and stiff, but not painful at all. Within a couple days, the swelling was minimal. Within a week, my ability to put weight on the knee was markedly improved! I got the second session 15 days after the first. Although I still was nervous around needles, the level of panic was much, much less. Once again, there was no physical pain. After this session, there wasn't even really any swelling or soreness. Now, just three weeks or so after the first treatment, and about a week after the second treatment, my knee feels almost fully functional. It's somewhat miraculous (after spending years, semi-incapacitated). I've done light exercise (walking, shooting a basketball, stretching, putting some weight on the knee) and nothing seems problematic. Per the doctor's advice, though, I'm increasing the activity level gradually (even though it feels like I could go all out right now). I can't say how prolotherapy will impact everyone, but for me, so far, it's been a true blessing, and I'm grateful to Dr. Darrow and his staff. read more

I re-tore my meniscus in my left knee during my trip to France in October. When I returned, I went to an Orthopaedic surgeon in Thousand Oaks that said I had osteoarthritis and needed a partial knee replacement, without even doing an MRI. Through a recommendation of a friend I was encouraged to research and get consultations for Stem Cell and PRP treatments instead of the surgery. I first contacted Regenexx and scheduled a consultation with them. But I also received a recommendation from a friend of a friend for Dr Marc Darrow. Even though I planned to still go to Regenexx for an opinion, I was very impressed with the professionalism and courtesy of Dr Darrow's staff, and felt he would be the Dr to take care of my knee. My instincts were correct - I had a much better feel for the level of care and professionalism from Dr Darrow and his staff. I had my first stem cell treatment the day of the consultation. I had detailed instructions to make sure I had eaten sufficiently before my treatment and was told that if I walked in, I could walk out - and drive myself to and from without having anyone with me. That was Dec 2. After 2 stem cell and 4 PRP treatments, I finished on February 15. Now, a month later, my knee feels great and I'm working up to my previous daily exercise routine. I have no restrictions and I feel great. Dr Darrow is a wonderful, caring doctor who makes you feel at ease and confident that he knows his stuff. He has a great sense of humour and makes you feel totally relaxed. His nurses and technicians are great. They guided me through every step, what to anticipate and totally put me at ease. It's about as painless as any procedure could be. And another great extra and asset is Mrs Darrow - Michelle. She handles the aesthetics clinic for facial injections and the "vampire facelift". During my last PRP treatment on Feb 15 I had my vampire facelift - a few fillers and PRP injected into my face - again, almost painless. She used numbing cream all over, has a very nice touch and does very natural work. Her coordinator, Nicole, is also terrific in getting everything coordinated. So, I truly had "one stop shopping!" I will keep going back to Michelle for my "refresher" when needed. If you get her work done at the same time as a stem cell or PRP treatment, they will draw additional blood and get it done with a nice discount. My husband and I brought our 18 year old daughter in for a consultation in December 2018. She had been a cross country runner but due to progressively worsening bilateral hip pain (with no specific injury) was unable to continue running for the year prior to our visit. We sought treatment through our insurance which consisted of rest, anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy. Physical therapy made her pain worse. Eventually an MRI of the right hip was ordered and it was discovered that she had a labral tear (although this diagnosis still did not fully explain the pain she was experiencing). The next step was going to be surgery. Her orthopedist would not even look at the left side until the right side was taken care of. Because I had a friend who had success with prp injections, I began to research providers. I was impressed with what I read about Dr. Darrow and emailed him about my daughter's condition. He wrote a very lengthy and thoughtful reply and we decided to bring her in for a consultation. He recommended a series of three bilateral injections which were to take place one month apart. Our daughter was not yet ready to proceed and Dr. Darrow was very respectful of her decision. About a month later she was ready, and she received prp injections in both hips. By the second visit, her left hip pain had completely resolved so Dr. Darrow only injected the right hip. Following that injection her right hip pain completely resolved so we did not need to go back a third time. She has yet to resume running but is able to walk up hills, walk long distances, and wear high heeled shoes without pain (all of which had caused great discomfort or pain for the year prior). She has not yet tried running but I believe this is due to lack of motivation rather than lack of ability. Our family is incredibly grateful to Dr. Darrow, who is smart, kind, caring, interesting, and clearly on the forefront of the future of medicine. In addition, all of the staff we interacted with were professional and kind. I will add that when we sought out the treatment we did so with equal parts skepticism and optimism, but following this successful experience, I saw firsthand that this is a very effective and noninvasive treatment. Lastly, financially this treatment was a stretch for us but I believe it was worth every penny, and I know we would have spent more in the long run had our daughter undergone surgery through our insurance (not to mention the toll of undergoing and recovering from surgery).
