Easily among the best firearms locations in the Chippewa valley. I have bought, and sold, firearms there, and I have always felt that I was treated fairly, and with respect. I see a lot of comments about Dan being abrasive and rude, and I just don't see that. Sometimes he is a bit short, but I have never personally seen or heard him be rude to anyone. I'm not saying that those folks are liars, I'm simply saying that I have not seen that sort of behavior. I can see how people may come to that conclusion. He has an intimidating stature, and he * can* be short with people sometimes, but neither Dan, or his staff, have ever made me feel unwelcome in his shop. With that out of the way, the shop itself is always fun to go visit. The shop itself is nice, and clean, and well organized. Inventory seems to change fairly often, and there's a pretty good spread of options available on site, and on display. Prices for most firearms seem within reasonable variances that you see in other places. Ammo can be a little higher than average, and some of the reloading supplies are pretty high (which makes sense, reloading isn't really a focus of the shop). The shop is staffed with, in my opinion, friendly, knowledgeable folks who enjoy talking about guns as much as I do. If memory serves, Chris, their smith, is one of the nicest people I've talked to, and is an excellent on-site gunsmith. They offer training classes that cover a wide range of skill levels and topics, including conceal carry classes. Oh, and if full-auto is an itch you want to scratch, they have a nice selection of firearms to rent, including several select-fire options. On top of all that, Marcon has a very nice indoor shooting range, and as far as I know it's the only one of its type in the area. A couple notable personal experiences: Once Dan matched a competitors price on a Glock G20 for me at point-of-sale, even though I didn't ask him to do so. Dan gave me an incredibly fair offer on a handgun that I wanted to sell to such a degree that I would've felt bad trying to haggle for more. He offered me more than I was expecting to get from it. I use to shoot there all the time, and also had a membership. The range has become unsafe, as they are not enforcing basic safety rules. Someone is going to get hurt, or killed. Wrote Dan a note stating what was occurring on the range. Didn't even bother to contact me. I let my membership drop, and no longer shoot there. I now go to Rice Lake. read more

I drive from Rice Lake to Marc-On Shooting in Lake Hallie because of how awesome Dan and his crew are! Knowing that Dan hires veterans and retired law enforcement means that as a customer when I'm asking questions or taking classes, the information I'm receiving as newbie is coming from someone that's actually got the experience to back up what they are saying (instead of some weekend warrior or pencil pushing nerd that's only studied a manual or watched a video). Also, as a woman, I have always felt comfortable walking in there and asking questions or taking classes. In the last couple months at Marc-On, I have taken the basic pistol course, a self-defense class, and I purchased a pistol after I found the one that suited me best via their speed dating with a gun course. I am always going to go back to Marc-On for my training, ammo and any care or maintenance that my gun needs. read more

First time going to a shooting range, since I was new in town and my old state had terrible gun laws so I decided to go to marc-on shooting since it was the only one with rentals close by. Had a terrible experience the staff treated me like a child, pre judged me by my appearance since I wasn't wearing nice clothes and my hair was messy. All I asked was if the trainer was going to be watching close by so I could ask any questions if I needed help since I haven't shot a firearm since 2017. He totally misrepresented what I said thought that since I was looking nervous I was obviously going to do something illegal so they asked me to leave. I was really disappointed and shocked that I was deemed as untrustworthy and basically a school shooter vibe or something. Anyway my advice is if you do not want this happen to you wear nice clothes , comb your hair and don't go alone unless you are over the age of 30 and have a beard. Really sad about this since Its the only range with rentals in Eau Claire area now I have to drive 200 miles somewhere else read more

Tried to take a long distance shooting class. Was given wrong location. Was told basically sorry, but it's your fault for signing up 2 days before the class. No more apologies after that for making me waste time getting to the wrong location early, for having me be prepared with pricier ammo and gear, or wasting money on gas on several trips to their shop. They refunded me, but then didn't send the check after almost 2 weeks. No apologies for that at all. Ended up having to stop in to make sure I got it. Not denying their knowledge on guns, but customer service is far from their thing there when they mess up. They didn't try once to make up anything to me. I will never go here again. read more

So...long story short, a female friend of mine was going here shooting on a regular basis. She is new to shooting, but really likes it. She is a quick study in everything i taught her shooting related. And a very accomplished woman in her professional career. She was there shooting, and hit one of the clips used to hold the target on the cardboard (13 cent clip). Dan spent minutes raising a complete fuss and making her feel horrible...she even offered to buy him new clips. She was in tears when she asked if that was normal for someone to chastise her for that kind of infraction. After seeing many other shoots spray and pray over there, i assured her that it was very much abnormal. Dan, you ought to really feel bad about this one. She has since gone up to fireline in rice lake, and the staff has been outstanding to her. She is very happy and the staff up there do not fly off the handle over a 13 cent clip. I should add, i have no axe to grind with marcon...i actually wished them the best when i heard they were opening. But dan's reaction to this woman was way out of line....i dont really care what kind of bee was in his bonnet that day. This happened probably 3 maybe 4 months ago...i've been meaning to write this for a while but have been busy. This friend and i were talking tonight while handloading more ammo for her, and she was still very upset at the way she was treated. Anyhow....i still hope dan realizes his mistake and checks himself. I hope he has many years of success, IF he addresses that kind of behavior. read more

The staff is fantastic. First time at a gun range in about 30 years for me and a first for my wife. My wife and I were met with patience and years of teaching knowledge. I can't say enough about how thankful we were to have Dan as our instructor. He taught us both how to safely handle several firearms and have a very enjoyable evening. I absolutely LOVE Marc-On Shooting. I had always wanted to learn how to shoot a handgun. In the past, I would check out the handgun section at sporting goods stores and really not even know what I was looking at, or what I would like to shoot. It was overwhelming. At Marc-On, I went to a "speed-dating" night and was able to try a bunch of handguns out. The owner went out to the range with me and gave me some quick pointers to get me off and shooting. He was extremely patient and gave me the confidence to do something I wasn't sure I could do. Since then, I have taken classes, have my own gun, and hope to grow my gun education and skills.
