This store has so much stuff. Just about anything you could need for entertaining and then some. I found things I didn't even know existed but make my charcuterie nights especially nice! They also offer cooking classes, which I probably won't take advantage of but I do love attending a cooking class, so I will not say never. They are owned by the same folks as Marche, which is a storefront or two away. Parking is not always kind as it's mostly street parking and it goes quick. read more

We had a great time participating in Chef Paul's culinary brunch experience. Each of the 4 tables were given specific tasks from the menu that contributed to the overall meal. We had a great tiime chopping, stirring, and learning some wonderful tips from Chef Paul to use in our daily routines. The meal itself was absolutely delicious! I must say the deviled eggs had the best flavor I've ever tasted. But really everything was scrumptious from the panzanella salad to the chicken tetrazzini ending on a delicious cherry pecan scone dessert. Me and my wife recently came here while exploring stores around the jazz festival in the area. This store was great because it features a lot of great culinary equipment that me and my wife have never seen before and it gives us ideas to further expand on in our kitchen. Loved my experience here. Beautiful space. Knowledgeable instructor. We went as a group of 8 and we had a super fun time. We spent too much time chopping the salad (didn't really need a play by play on how to chop each ingredient), but too little time doing the mains and zero time for dessert. The amount of food we made vs what we received at the end was discrepant. I expected more than 1-2 raviolis. Esp for the effort and price. All in all, a fun experience. read more

A few friends and I did a southern cooking class. We made buttermilk fried chicken, creamy mac & cheese, and a coleslaw that made me a convert. Never have been a fan of traditional coleslaw, but this one with all the herbs and spices was a winner and I will definitely make this again. The meal was finished off with a kind of peach cobbler dish. That was very good as well. I enjoyed the style of instruction for this cooking class learning some knife skills as well as how to cut a raw chicken. Will definitely look for more of their classes. read more

Over the top! We attended the La Dolce Vita - Italian Dinner class with Chef Robin Nathan. Robin was a superb instructor, giving us all kinds of tips. The dinner was so delicious! One dish had asparagus and mushrooms in it, I don't like either, but I ate it all and loved it! We also received step by step instructions to recreate the dinner at home. Can't wait to try it! Of course, it probably won't be nearly as great as Robin's dinner. read more

Amy was a fantastic instructor and kept us all on task and made this class an amazing experience. We had dinner at Toda Madre across the street and this place caught my eye. I popped in to see what was going on. Super cute eclectic shop with items for your home / kitchen. Chef knives, dinner ware, glass ware, spices, local pastas, jellies, all kinds of house warming gifts. Darling little knickknacks- I bought a little cream pitcher and a few cocktail glasses I have never seen anywhere. There is something in every price range. Oh !They hold cooking classes here. When I attend one of them I'll be sure to post a review. I could have spent hours here looking at everything and will definitely be back. read more

We had an EXCELLENT cooking class here with chef Paul. The theme of our class was Chocolate and Chile, (the seasoning not the soup). We received a friendly greeting, they took our coat and brought us a beverage. We were provided an apron, a menu with recipes and shopping list and everything we needed for success. Chef Paul gave us great instructions and monitored each step. The atmosphere was like any great cocktail party, great food and fun folks! The food was delicious and enjoyed by all. Due to allergies I was not able to eat the dessert we made, but Chef Paul whipped up something else for me and it was goooooodddd! I highly recommend this outing! What a wonderful experience from start to finish! This was our first cooking demo at Marcel's, and Chef Robin and her staff all worked together to create such a delicious and memorable night. I'm sure to book another class soon and would even consider having a private event (so I can be a guest at my own dinner party!). I love to cook and am always looking to learn knew skils/recipes, so this was a real treat. The "La Dolce Vita" spring menu was artfully designed to celebrate all the foods that are in season, and every course was a culinary delight; even the table decor and place-settings were lovely. We learned so many "tips" while Chef was cooking (especially the knife skills) -- it was a true joy to watch the dinner be prepared and even better, enjoy eating it! The wines were paired well, the pours were generous, and the dessert: who knew lemon and caramel paired so PERFECTLY?! It was a wonderful night overall. Thank you for everyone's effort and planning! We just enjoyed hosting our company Christmas Celebration here! Outstanding!!!! From booking the event to walking out the door after it was over the process was so seamless and effortless. Walking in the store front you don't realize they have the Live Cooking demonstrations/party area. It's not a big are. Our party of 20 was completely comfortable. We chose to cook Tapas so that everyone could have a hand in our meal prep. That type of setting also allowed for munching slowly and socializing. While no one left miserably stuffed, everyone left happy and content. The menus vary from chef to chef as well as seasonally. After the party, guests are allowed browsing and shopping opportunities at a discounted rate. AND you get to bring home your apron! We absolutely would recommend Marcel's for a company outing or family bonding. I am pretty sure everyone has made at home, at least, one or two of the items we made because they forward you a copy of the recipes. We love it! read more

Popped into Marcel's a few months after its grand opening to pick up crab crackers. The store has a very Sur La Table meets Pottery Barn feel to it, with bright colors and plenty of well-organized displays. My partner and I were immediately drawn to some beautiful serving pieces from England, and in the five seconds it took for me to say "How charming!" a saleswoman was by our side and could not be shaken. As we weren't actually in the market for a $150 platter, we informed her that we were simply looking for crab crackers. She looked crestfallen. As it turned out, Marcel's did not carry crab crackers. She tried, desperately, to sell us a substitute item (mallets, knives, espresso spoons), but eventually had to admit that we would probably be better off at Bed, Bath & Beyond or Williams-Sonoma, as Marcel's was still trying to figure out the right mix of products for its store. But the saleswoman was not done with us yet. In fact, we couldn't shake her. She proceeded to tell us about the cooking classes Marcel's offered which were very tempting, I will admit. They offer a variety of classes each week, ranging from chili to crepes. There are classes for children, teens, couples and girlfriends. But the prices, ranging from $35 for a children's class to $100 for some of the adult classes, are a bit steep for the suburbs (for comparison, the average cost of an adult class at The Chopping Block in Chicago is $75. Kids' classes at The Chopping Block are $25). Back to the retail experience, however. I guess I have to give credit to the woman who followed us around the store for 10 minutes, because in the end, she was able to convince us to buy a pie slicer. But I prefer to be left alone when I'm shopping. If I'm serious about an item, or I have a question, I'll let you know. I certainly don't need a shadow that won't quit talking! Frankly, it made me not want to return. read more

So far, I've only spent money here on knife sharpening, but it's something I'm glad they offer. I cook a lot and any home cook will tell you that properly sharp knives are crucial. So I love that I can drop them off by 3 and they'll be ready around noon the next day. This is also just a great store to have around and the next time I need a new pot, pan or fancy gadget I'll be stopping in. I'm also pretty tempted by their cooking classes, although I admit the price is a bit steep. In any case, my knives look great, the price is right, and I'm so glad Marcel's is close to home. read more

This review is for the cooking class. My wife received a "hands on" cooking class from her daughter for Mother's Day. We had been given a similar gift years ago to Sur la Table that was okay. This far exceeded our expectations. The class holds about 16 people divided into 2 tables; some couples, some friends, some were mother/daughter. Kelly was our instructor and she did a great job. We made an appetizer, salad, entree, side and a dessert. We ate the appetizer as soon as we made it, and the others were plated to us afterwards as a sit down meal. Wine was provided thru out the night and it was a very enjoyable evening. We made new freinds, tried some new recipes, were taught some new skills and had a great time. read more
