It has been years since we last visited this museum. We enjoyed it back then, but were pleasantly surprised by the expansion and improvements made. This museum now rivals many larger air museums. Interactive displays engage patrons of all ages and unique exhibits draws your attention. I loved the ingenuity of the foot locker display. I know it sounds odd, but if you visit, you will understand. Outside you are able to stroll among the expansive number of planes. Being able to get up close, walking under the wings, and alongside the body only then do you understand the enormous size of some of these planes. Incredible! Before leaving for the day, be sure to visit the display outside near the entrance. This interesting exhibit features important US documents engraved in Granite. There is also an memorial for service canines. It was an enjoyable, educational and inspiring afternoon. We highly recommend a visit especially in the cool months as it will get mighty hot on the tarmac in the summer. read more

My husband and I visited on Saturday, Dec 28. Staff and docents greeted us with smiles and helpfulness. If you want to learn history, this is the place. Visitors can experience the full evolution of flight through an impressive collection of over 115 aircraft, spanning more than 120 years of aviation history. Be sure and take the tram ride. Cost $8. Gordon took us around moth balled aircraft and told us the importance of each to history. We ran into him throughout our visit and he always had another tidbit to share. Be sure to walk down to the hangar with the P-38 aircraft model and a little further down to visit the radio room. Docents are there to share history with you. I ended up here two weeks ago after giving a mini-tour of Riverside to my family. Top Gun Maverick opened in theaters around that time and I thought this was probably the closest we'd ever get to seeing military planes up close. Getting here is a trek, but it's off Van Buren and the 215 freeway and on the other side of the freeway is Riverside National Cemetery and a newly built In-N-Out. It's really neat if you're into military planes, but even if you aren't it's great to see up close. Cost was $12 for adults and there are military discounts available. The grounds are pretty huge and there is a shuttle that drives you around the yard and gives you a tour of the place if you're not up for walking. Outside there's also a M.A.S.H like display with helicopters and cargo nets, etc. One thing I wandered into was the March field radio communications hangar which lured me in with the words "air conditioned." Once inside I was greeted by a gentleman that gave me a tour of the place and went over the different radio com devices used throughout history. He had pieces that went back to the 1930's/1940's all the way up until now. He explained what HAM radios were, how it worked and how it's useful today to help with emergency's and communicate with people around the world. Definitely worth checking out if you're visiting the museum! You can check out the planes and various war installations inside the main hangar which also houses the restrooms and has air conditioning. There's an installation that has displays about what it was like during WWII which is pretty scary and compares to the images I've seen in the media with the Ukraine war and people taking shelter in the underground subway stations from bombs and missiles. The staff are all very nice and helpful here and it you could really spend up a few hours here if you wanted to or an hour if you just want to do a quick walk through. Great place for photos with family and just to take kids or any history buffs. If you're not familiar with the area, make sure to check the weather because it's usually hot all year long here so it's worth it to go early in the morning versus the afternoon. read more

On a hot day (but under 100F) we visited this museum. A lot of planes are outside and you can view them from the parking lot if you want. Admission is $18, free for veterans. The hanger is air conditioned but still warm. They have nice things inside. There is an exhibit where you can experience the bomb shelter during WW2 London bombings, and experience the samething in Hamburg. Much worse in Hamburg. They also have an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane that is impressive. Outside is very hot, but many planes worth seeing. The coolest (air temp) area is the gift shop! So duck in there if you get overheated. read more

Big shout out to Doug Burger and David who took the time to give us endless educational information regarding all ham radios , aircrafts, paranormal stories that was featured on a popular show. I spent several hours here learning had the opportunity to climb and walk inside a fuel tanker. The history that is on this property is amazing for myself. Taking the time to learn about each aircraft that was in our past wars. With over 80 aircraft and more than 30,000 individual artifacts, the museum strives to promote an understanding of humanity's reach for the skies and of March Field's pivotal role in the development of flight. For nearly 100 years, March Field has been home to aviation pioneers, some famous and some anonymous. They have left a treasure trove of precious artifacts from aircraft to flight gear, from simulators to uniforms, from photos to personal letters. I could go on and on about this work of art. There are areas that make me wish I could have seen everything in its prime! The music, the uniforms, everything down to the bolts was exciting to see. I didn't get the men in the radio museum names but they were very nice and patient. I came with my toddler and he sped through the place excited for the planes but I'm very tempted to come back with my husband and catch everything we sped through. Seems like a nice date spot, if only there was coffee or a soda pop stand. read more

I served in the USAF for 14 years (4 years active and 10 years IMA). Visiting this place brought me back to the time I served in Germany. I was like a little kid running around looking at all the planes, which brought a lot of memories from Germany and Spokane, WA. It was 100 degrees outside, but it was worth the time I spent walking around and reminiscing good memories serving in the USAF. If you are a veteran, you get a discount, so you can get in for $10 (so worth it), otherwise it's $12. Lets be honest here I am an aviation junkie, nerd, geek, spazz or whatever pejorative is enjoying prominence, so its pretty hard for me to give a bad review of any aviation museum. Having grown up essentially flying during during the golden age of travel (the early to late 70's). And being fortunate to have a father who job basically tuned us into globetrotters, I love everything about planes. Military, civilian, it does not matter. Better mind you if they are in the air (and better yet If I am am flying in them) but even on the ground I love them. The March Field Air museum is a fantastic such example. Its pretty big, it has the usual crowd pleasers like the B-29's, SR-71's, etc, but also obscure craft like the YF-9 The museum is located on the base of the March Air Reserve Base. The base which has a long history dating back from WWI all the way to present hosts a variety of reserve units. If your lucky you can see active flight operations from the outdoor static displays. The inside portions of the museum have a variety of displays that rotate. They also have some excellent aircraft that are fully restored. In particular the P-38 display is fantastic. Outside they have an extensive collection. Aside from the well known stuff (B-52 etc, they have some interesting other oddities like the EB-57B, a extensive Mig Collection including a 23, a D-21, and a Minuteman II ICBM. The docents are ex military or former engineers for the various aviation companies that dotted SoCal. They are super informative, and their enthusiasm for the topics is infectious. In the same conversation you can talk to the guy who built the plane that the other gentleman actually flew in combat. It is a bit of a trek especially in L.A. traffic to get here. We usually do it as part of a loop with a stop in Palmdale, or one of the Desert cities etc. read more

Stopped by today on New Year's Eve and all staff were kind and extremely friendly. A young docent helped us out by pointing out the different exhibits and areas, and Mike (I believe head of security) talked with us for a while about paranormal encounters and his experiences at the Air Museum. The openness of the outside exhibit allows visitors to look at the aircraft very closely and the collection of aircraft is just amazing. We were very pleasantly surprised with such an interesting museum and such kind people as we were just looking for something to do in Riverside before heading home. read more

Brought the kiddos to experience a wonderful time and get some knowledge on aircraft and history. After buying 4 tickets from Hannah at the admissions counter. Hannah failed to offer or explain how the museum offers a tour and in- depth explanation of each aircraft via tram for $5. After spending 4hrs in exploring on foot, we noticed a tram giving tours and education on all the aircrafts parked out side. It's 3:41 when we meet Gordon the tour guy and asked. How do we go about purchasing tickets. He told us to go inside to the admissions desk to buy tickets and that the tours are every Hr. After following him inside and trying to buy tickets Gordon then said he is leaving at 4pm . He then radios a Co worker who then declined the tour as well. This place doesn't close until 5pm. Complete and utter laziness on the behalf of the employees here. WE WILL NOT RETURN. read more

The place is really clean and looks modern, but also has cool artifacts from well known wars. They also have props you can sit in and play with the buttons. I really liked it and would recommend bringing family or if you're going on a date. read more

Great collection of aircraft, primarily 50-70's, but some from other eras too. The staff is great and always there to answer questions. We talked with one of the volunteers that was a navigator on a B-52 during the Vietnam Nam war and he told us some very interesting stories and showed us the new exhibits that opened up. Doesn't cost a lot but really worth the time to see it and support the museum. read more

The March Air Museum has some excellent exhibits that include several themed displays, hands on interactions, and of course the 60+ planes outside. I think my favorite was the Space Exhibit with all of the Soviet Memorabilia and propaganda regarding the Space Race. There are some hands-on exhibits for the kids to sit in / play in, but I think parents will probably get a little bit more out of this experience. Overall, this was a great place to visit and to learn more about our aviation history. - You can walk around all of the planes in the back, but there were no opportunities to walk inside any of them. This was something that we were able to at the Palm Springs and the Camarillo aviation museums. - One thing that was memorable was the welcoming docent. Very friendly! - Many of the planes are parked on the dirt so bring shoes that might get muddy or dusty depending on the weather. -They do offer a 40 minute tram tour of the planes on the hour. They'll make an announcement when it's ready to start. read more

What an amazing place! It's much bigger than I thought it was after glancing at it from the freeway. Our family will need to make multiple visits to take in all the history & information. The staff & volunteers are so fun, personable, passionate in their positions, & kind. Several possess an incredible wealth of knowledge! We met a retired pilot who ought to write a book. It's a great place for kids & adults alike. The history of air travel, radios, NASA, and flight are all thoroughly addressed. We can't wait to go back! read more

We spent 3 hours hours here and it just wasn't enough time. We will be returning on a cooler day. I took off a star for the heat factor. It was very warm inside the building. I'm sure it's because of the high ceilings but it didn't feel like there was any air conditioning except for in a few small rooms. Bring a cold water in with you. If you're sensitive to heat, definitely wait until the weather cools! Staff was very polite and knowledge. This is a great place to stop and stretch your legs during a long drive. I've been here a few times to say the docents' are the nicest people around. I always enjoy walking around and taking in the museum. If I have a question, there is someone close by to answer it with knowledgeable answers. I gotta say, I have driven by March Field Air Museum many many times but haven't stopped in until recently. I am glad I did. I love museums where you can get right up next to these historic aircraft and exhibits. You really cannot appreciate the sheer size or magnitude of some of these aircraft until you get up close or under their wings. The museum is laid out with alot of walking area outside, then some great exhibits inside. The new "bunker" exhibit was really cool with the sound and heat effects. There is alot to learn here and if you spot on of the docents walking around, I found them all to be very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. read more

Today I visited this museum because I'm stuck in the area for a couple weeks for work. My coworker and I needed something fun to do with our day off, so we found this museum online. If you have any interest in history, military artifacts/stories, or flight, I think you would enjoy visiting here. I recently went to Palm Springs Air Museum and the March Museum stood out to me in comparison as having more planes and larger planes. I also noticed almost every exhibit has QR codes you can scan for more info. I loved that there were lots of video and audio presentations to help present the ideas. The gift shop was pretty big and had lots of cool items. They also have a library here. Overall I spent about 2.5 hours here and I still feel like I could have absorbed more if I stayed longer, but hunger kicked in early. read more
