While there were aspects of the design and finished appearance that we liked, the overall experience left us disappointed. One concern throughout the process was the pressure to finalize the closet layouts. Although I had largely designed the closets myself, when I requested a revised drawing after changes were made, I was told not to "take this so seriously." As a homeowner making a significant investment in a permanent installation, I felt it was reasonable to want to review and confirm the final design before construction. Additionally, I made a minor rod color change to one closet the day before installation. This change was brought up repeatedly and was later cited as the reason the installers did not bring enough hardware for several hanging rods. As a result, portions of the installation could not be completed properly. The missing hardware was sent approximately a week later, and we ultimately had to install and replace components ourselves. The most frustrating aspect of the experience has been the post-installation service. Communication with Rolando, who oversees installations, has been extremely difficult. Responses regarding installation issues, corrections, and warranty items have been inconsistent and often unavailable. Our contract provides for a one-year warranty. However, when we contacted the company regarding items that required correction, we were told they were ending the working relationship rather than scheduling the repairs. At that point, several punch-list and quality issues remained unresolved. I understand that no project is perfect, and I would have been willing to work through the issues had there been consistent communication and follow-through. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We are now exploring other avenues to have the remaining warranty items addressed. My recommendation to future customers is to carefully inspect every aspect of the installation before making final payment, document any outstanding items in writing, and ensure all punch-list work is completed before closing out the project. If the company ultimately honors its warranty obligations and resolves the remaining issues, I would be happy to update this review.

Paul did a beautiful job on our custom maple wainscoting and bar work at Bohemia. This was not a…read morebasic install. The project involved a lot of layout decisions, uneven floor conditions, outlet coordination, panel proportions, cap details, and making sure everything would work both visually and practically in a commercial space. Paul was thoughtful throughout the process and clearly knows finish carpentry. What I appreciated most was that he did not just rush through it. He took the time to think through the details, explain options, and flag things that could affect the final result before cutting into the material. He was especially careful with the panel layout, wood movement, grain direction, and how the base and trim should be handled so the finished product would both look right and hold up well over time. The wainscoting came out really elegant and clean, and the craftsmanship is obvious in person. It gave the space warmth and character immediately. The bar work also came out great and tied in nicely with the rest of the room. Paul cares about the end result and it shows. Many cabinet companies won't repair existing work but will offer to do a full kitchen remodel: new cabinets, countertops, etc. and if they did the cost to repair the cabinets were expensive. Here comes Alpha 1 Handyman. One thing I really appreciated was there flexibility, patience and options they offered. I spoke to Manny and he broke down the insurance claim report I had. He saw what the insurance company forgot to include. This in turned saved me money. At first, I only asked for a bid on the cabinets and had another contractor for flooring, but Manny's thoroughness made me select him for the whole job. The work took close to 2 months to complete and there's still some minor things that needs to be completed but overall I am extremely pleased with the work they have done. The overall length of the project was due to insurance delays as well as what is going on with the covid-19 virus. When they did start the work it roughly took 2 weeks. If you're ever in a situation with your home owners insurance, give Alpha 1 Handyman a call. I was able to uninstall the shower head, install the filter and reinstall the shower head in one bathroom, but I didn't have the tools or elbow grease to do the same in the second bathroom. Within minutes of submitting the request, I received a message from Nick with his cell phone number, asking me to send him photos of the work. I texted him and he responded quickly confirming he could do the work with an estimate and potential time to schedule the job. He required a small deposit via Zelle. I was a little skeptical about the deposit, but he affirmed his business means more to him than the deposit and his word is worth more as well. He was able to get me on the schedule the following day and confirmed a time later that evening. That day, he texted me telling me when he was on his way and with an estimated time of arrival. When he arrived, he got straight to work. He confirmed the shower head was REALLY on there! He was able to remove it, as well as the stupid flow restrictor I'd asked the previous plumber to not install--but he did anyway--threaded the connections, and installed the shower filter and shower head quickly. He also gave me an opportunity to douse the shower head in Lime Away before reinstalling! We tested the connection and he made one minor adjustment and then was done! He charged me his minimum rate and it was worth it. Very nice gentleman, very professional and honest! I appreciate he takes Zelle and Venmo. A long overdue review for CustomBuilt-Ins…read more We can't thank Doug and Eric enough for everything they did for us. We had a water leak in our kitchen Memorial Day of 2025. Repipe complete, then the builder came in. The project was to replace the island, lower cabinets of one wall, and repaint the kitchen. They took our check and started. Then virtually no progress in June, July, August, September, and October. I eventually drove to their shop to get my cabinets as they were unable to return them. We reached out to Doug at the beginning of November and he said they could help us out. They custom built and installed our island. They rebuilt our custom kitchen cabinets, and finished the kitchen painting. We were asking them to come in and finish a project that they had no history or familiarity with what we wanted, right before Thanksgiving. Doug and Eric spent time talking and working with us so we were all on the same page. Schedules made, notification messages of arrivals, and we always had a clear understanding of what will be done each day. He called me back literally within 5 minutes and was here the following day. What I thought was a simple install took a few hours as John had to fix everything I jacked up in order to get the door in and properly aligned. Needles to say, I am super happy with his work. He was nice and respectful. I happily paid John in excess of what he asked for as I understood it took more work then what was originally discussed and that he is a small business. I called All City Plumbing, Air and Electrical because I had diagnosed that my furnace's blower…read moremotor and capacitor needed to be replaced. Jonathan came out and confirmed that that was indeed true. Everything seemed to be going well. Jonathan was very friendly and polite. When it came time for the estimate, he told me it was going to be just under $3,000. That seemed like quite a lot to me for just changing out a blower motor and a capacitor. He also told me that my Rheem furnace couldn't take just any old blower motor and he had to order one special. He said that his company doesn't deal with Rheem because their parts are hard to get. I reluctantly agreed to the repair, which he said would probably take place the next day. Later, he called and said the part wasn't going to arrive for a whole week. This was during one of the hottest weeks of the year in Southern California and I certainly didn't want to be without air conditioning, which runs through my furnace and needs the blower motor. I asked him what my other options were. He told me the only other option I had was to get a whole new system. He explained that he could install the system in only 2 days time or I could wait a whole week and have him repair the blower motor. He also mentioned a 10 year warranty with 1 or 2 years of service from his company. I asked him about the brand and quality of the Furnace that he intended on selling me, which was going to be almost $8,000. He told me it was better than my current system brand and I asked to get it in writing so I could do some research. After not receiving anything in writing I called his company and requested the same thing from them. Shortly after the conversation with his company I received an email specifying the make and model of the new furnace. I researched online and discovered a few interesting things. Number one, Jonathan had lied to me about Rheem parts. I found out from my online research that Reem takes Universal parts and I would not have had to wait until the next week to receive a blower motor that would fit. I also discovered that blower motors and capacitors cost nowhere near $3,000 to install. And finally, the brand of the new furnace that was recommended by Jonathan was nowhere near the quality of the Rheem furnace that I already owned. I canceled the job immediately with the company and again with Jonathan when he called me to find out what was going on. I am still waiting for my refund on the deposit! My contractor friend and I went to an HVAC store and purchased a universal blower motor and capacitor for $180... and installed it ourselves in a couple hours. The system is working perfectly. I don't recommend this business at all. I'm completely confused on why they have such a good rating on Yelp, which is why I picked them to begin with. This was a clear case of trying to take advantage of an old lady in a wealthy neighborhood. Shame on them!! Update: I received a full refund of my deposit and the service fee was completely waived. I got a nice apology from the owner and a manager.
