About two months ago, I had fillings done at another dental office and immediately developed significant sensitivity and pain. The experience there was not a good one, so I decided to return to Dr. Anthony Marcos, who had been my dentist before my insurance changed. Dr. Marcos was genuinely happy to see me again and took the time to listen carefully to everything I had experienced. He examined my teeth thoroughly and showed me where the previous fillings had not been fully completed. I really appreciated his honesty, patience, and the fact that he never dismissed my concerns. He uses the most current and innovative dental technology, which made the entire visit smooth, fast, and virtually painless. He works efficiently but very carefully, and I felt completely at ease in his care. He fixed the issue, and by the next day, the pain and sensitivity were completely gone. The relief was immediate and life-changing. What really stood out was the follow-up care his office called me the next day just to check in and see how my teeth were feeling. That level of attention is rare and deeply appreciated. He also provided a complimentary enamel toothpaste, and his staff is consistently kind, welcoming, and professional. If there was a way here to give zero stars that what they would get. I could not believe the lack of customer service at the front desk / office- I asked to explain the billing and I got an attitude- they told me one amount, I wrote it Down on paper only to come back the next day and be charged additional amount for this days visit, it's all 1 service he couldn't finish in a day, when I ask for them to explain the African American lady, I wish I knew her name, got upset and told the doctor only to find that financial lady later said she made a mistake, no apology by the way. After getting treated like my business did not matter. The only conclusion I could bring myself to understand is these folks are either over work and underpaid or they simple don't like their jobs/ I never experienced such nasty service. Mind you, I'm paying out of my own pocket to see this Dr. A- and I have insurance and they all were aware, that loyalty on my part, right? Someone agree, please. Also, i am a repeat customer because of my Invisalign. Get this, to add insult to injury, I lost my Invisalign, I go in. Doctor Anthony does a replacement and charge me $800? Wtf, when I received it, It's like a $200 mouthpiece when I question him about it Doctor Anthony tells me I can keep that one and gets on the phone and starts telling his rep that they sent him a faulty mouthpiece. I started to explain how the original mouth piece was crafted, as if he didn't know. He certainly played along as if he didn't. He almost took me for a $600 profit, I finally got the right mouthpiece, again after him acting as if he didn't know he gave me some generic mouthpiece. I paid $800 for something that really cost under $500 and that's like the original, after being tricked , I did some due diligence. This office is about money, can't blame them, aren't they all; however, have some finesse or discretion about how you collect or take advantage of your clients... Since when do people like going to the dentist office anyway especially to be taken advantage of blatantly and then treated poorly. Before going here I recommend looking around. Dr. Anthony Marcos is a wonderful dentist! Our family has been going to him for over two decades. We have gotten fillings, crowns, root canals, implants, and aligners from him, and we are very happy with the level of care we have received. Anthony is very caring, knowledgeable, and professional, and he stays up to date on the latest technological advances in dentistry. The office experience is warm and inviting. They provide free coffee and tea in the waiting area, a screen to watch Netflix during longer procedures, and even hand waxing. Now that's what I call five-star customer service! read more

COVID-19 update: I can figure out when I started coming here easily - I was kind of a mess after the birth of our first kid, so I missed regular dental cleanings for 3 years. In that time we also moved, so a coworker referred me to Marcos & Marcos. Ever since then I've come for my twice-a-year cleanings (as well as any extra appointments for fillings, etc. found in those cleanings - there were a lot of extra appointments in my first few months of being a patient here). I've been seeing Dr. Anthony this whole time, and I really appreciate his openness and friendliness. The whole staff, from the front desk to the hygienists to everyone else, has taken good care of me over the years. This past week I went for my first appointment since before the pandemic started. I arrived early by mistake, but they accommodated my schedule (I went for a walk and waited in the car until they notified me, since they are limiting the waiting room). The appointment started off with them texting me a link to a survey with questions about COVID-19 symptoms. My dental chair was in a room with the back door open, I swished with a hydrogen peroxide solution for a minute, and my hygienist wore a full array of protective equipment as she cleaned my teeth. I think some of the equipment they're using for suction (during cleaning) is different from before, but I'm not positive. In any case, it was a good experience, and they were able to take a quick impression for a night guard (I had missed my previous appointment for this due to everything being shut down). Happy to be back. And there's always a bit of triumph when I've managed to avoid new cavities in the months between cleanings. read more

I have been a patient at this dental practice for many years. The dentist and team are all very knowledgeable and up to date with the latest technology. They are able to educate me regarding areas of concern in my mouth in a way that is easy for me to understand. They scanned my teeth during my last visit and within seconds showed me what my smile would look like if I got clear aligners. SO COOL!!! I get pretty anxious when it comes to dental treatment. However the awesome humans here bring joy to the industry. I always feel welcome and it's clear that the team takes pride in their work. I had a dental implant on my upper front tooth (after a fall). The root canal that I previously had there had failed, and I needed a full-on implant. I had my trelidations of course, because it's your front tooth. After a waiting period post-extraction, I went in for the implant. They had matched the color as well as the proper width and height extremely well. Not only your basic dental needs, but as far as trauma, I would refer Dr Carliza Marcos to anyone! My wife referred me to Marcos & Marcos and I have been seeing Dr. Carliza Marcos for over ten years now. I've had a number of different procedures from cleanings to whitenings and fillings to crowns. The whole experience puts you at ease starting with the friendly staff as they check you into rooms that make you feel like you are about to have a spa treatment. Once in the chair, I always feel well informed about the procedure I am about to have. When Dr. C comes into the room she always makes me laugh, usually when I have something in my mouth that makes the joke even funnier. I feel very confident in the modern technologies they use as they always seem to invest in new tech for common procedures. I love that she encourages me to go checkout my new crown as it is being 3D-printed in the other room. It's weird that I am writing this, but I actually enjoy going to the dentist! I have a bad habit of neglecting my teeth for years at a time. Not because of fear but because I couldn't afford to have the work done. So when I started going to see Dr. Carliza Marcos in 2016, I knew that she would have her hands full. After my first cleaning, we sat down and made a comprehensive plan for the dental work I needed. Things didn't go exactly as planned because first, I needed an emergency root canal and then broken teeth required crowns. Thankfully Dr. C and her staff are incredibly supportive and helped me with a few unforeseen expenses with a payment plan. All this to say, I truly appreciate the lovely staff and the beautiful quality of work Dr. Carliza has done on my teeth. She has never pressured me to get anything done that I didn't need to have done and she has been patient with my inconsistent visits. The office is immaculate and everyone is super friendly. They keep up to date with their equipment like the panoramic x-ray machine and a cubic zirconia crown machine that creates the crowns right there in the office. I have never had such a horrible experience with a dentist in my life so I feel like it's my obligation to warn others about the potential negatives of going to Dr. Carliza Marcos for dental work. I have never had a root canal done before, and in the span of a month, I have had two done after starting with Dr. Marcos. I should have read the red flag when on the first visit she sold me a "prescription" toothpaste for $20. I was too shy to decline it once they had already handed it to me and told me the price. That was my bad :-( Anyways after the cleaning, she told me I probably needed a root canal on a tooth (tooth 13) and I got that done by a local endodontist. The endodontist did a good job on the root canal and I went back to Dr. Marcos for a crown. They print the crowns in the office which was awesome for me because I didn't need to wait two weeks for a full crown. So she gave me a permanent crown and also told me that my other tooth (tooth 15) needed an overlay. During the procedure on tooth 15 she kept on repeating that it was a big cavity and I wasn't sure what to say to that so I kept quiet. She gave me an overlay and I went home. Well after I got home I was in significant pain so I called back and she said it might be a bite issue and that I should come back for her to fix it. In the same appointment while she is fixing my bite she was well on her way to her next money-making scheme and told me that she would take pics of my mouth so that I could get Invisalign. She was pressuring me into getting Invisalign's through her office but I was hesitant because I was in pain from the previous procedure so I went to my daughter's orthodontist who told me that I had severe crowding and that Dr. Marcos being a general dentist would have had difficulty trying to fix my teeth properly. He said she would have had to significantly shave my teeth which would have caused long-term problems. I dodged a bullet with that one! So anyways my tooth pain was getting worse over the following days and I went back to Dr. Marcos. She told me that the crown she had put on 13 was not proper and that she would replace it. Then she told me to go see an endodontist again to see what was going on. By this time she had maxed out my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket for a visit with the endodontist. The endodontist told me that now tooth 15 needed a root canal! I was in so much pain by that point I was willing to pay up a leg to get rid of that excruciating pain. I had to pay over $1900 out of pocket on a tooth that Dr. Marcos had just worked on less than a month ago and had never even bothered me before that day. The endodontist who did my root canal also told me that Dr. Marcos should have told me to get a root canal instead of charging for an overlay. She also told me that I had a major infection in my tooth. I then decided to speak with my dental insurance since I didn't think that I had paid for the same tooth twice. I initially thought it wasn't going to go anywhere but she must have messed up badly enough that they actually reimbursed me for all the work she had done stating that it was not satisfactory. I had also paid Dr. Marcos out of pocket over $1200 for the procedures that she had done and thought that I had to go back to her to get my crown fixed since I had already paid her. I made an appointment and they asked me to come in. Low and behold I felt hijacked when I came in and Ana (Dr. Marcos's financial person) called me into the office and tried to tell me that I had to pay the insurance's portion of the money on top of the money I had already paid before they would fix the crown that she had messed up in the first place. She then proceeded to gaslight me and tell me that I should have expected a root canal since the cavity was so big. I was shocked..how would a patient know that? And she shouldn't have charged for an overlay if she thought I needed a root canal. I thanked her for her time and ran out of there. I get an email later from Ana asking me to call Delta and ask them to give them back their money or else I would be held liable. Thank God I called Delta and they told me that not only would I not need to pay Dr. Marcos Delta's portion, but Dr. Marcos was told by them to refund me the money I had paid them because the work was not done properly. I have heard horror stories about dentists and I never thought that I would have to go through such an experience. All I have to say is that I do not feel that she is a talented dentist, and she also tried to swindle me out of more money even when she was at fault. I am very saddened by this experience and wanted others to be aware of doing any major work with her. Update: Dr. Marcos did refund me the portion that I paid her which is great, and I appreciate that she didn't give any trouble about this. read more

Dr. Anthony always puts me at ease, uses the latest technology and I have never had any problems with any of his dental work (which includes multiple crowns, cavities, fillings, etc). I couldn't continue to book my first visit. Last week, I went through the complete process of scheduling a first time visit Name/phone/email/insurance/date/time/etc... Then when I called back to confirmed my appointment, the receptionist didn't have it. She said she'd call me back after searching, then she never returned my call. So I called the following Monday and again, the receptionist was distracted, kept on putting me on hold, couldn't stay focused, asked for the same information over and over, just overall very challenged to schedule an appointment. That is a bad scene and a poor first contact with a dental office. If it is the same person running the schedule and making sure patients are happy with the scheduling experience, I fear this business will soon fail. I have been a patient of Dr. Carliza Marcos for over fifteen years and she has always been top notch in terms of helping me take care of my teeth. Her staff is always friendly and helpful especially when I need to change an appointment or if they have an earlier appointment that I can make. They follow strict safety protocols due to CV-19 and have full Personal Protective Equipment as well as the latest hardware to reduce aerosols. The cleanings are always done with care by her top notch hygienists as the time passes by quickly while I'm watching NetFlix. Dr. Carliza also makes great recommendations for my gum care with the proxy brushes as well as recommending a night guard to lessen the effects of grinding my teeth at night. Dr. Carliza is very compassionate and Dr. Anthony loves technology and brings excitement and passion to his work. I've noticed that they typically can do something better in one visit than others do in multiple visits and they are all about "saving the tooth" if they can, which saved my teeth! Why would anyone develop a relationship with their dentist, doctor, mechanic, etc? I hear people talk about how loyal they are to their hairdresser, yoga teacher, fitness trainer. My personal view is those who look after me, people who look after my health are those who share a private part of my life I don't reveal to others. Because they all are excellent at their job, care for my needs they are important people who I value in my life. If it were not for their caring attitudes I would not have stayed loyal to their practice this long or look forward to visiting, even when the visits involve drilling for cavities; because I know they are caring for me. I've been going to Dr. Marcos for many years along with other members of my family. Because of my experiences with their office, I've referred enumerable extended family and friends to their incredible care. I've received nothing but thanks and praise for referring them to the care of Dr. Carliza and Dr. Anthony along with their top-notch staff. Their office is warm, pleasant, and filled with good vibes. The design is very relaxing. The staff is always courteous, and conscientious, and they are genuinely happy to be serving their patients. The interaction with the staff is efficient and fun, too. Although with the pandemic you cannot see the staff's smiles, you can tell in their eyes the smiles are plentiful in the office. Dr. C is very caring, gentle, and quite thorough. She is a wonderful conversationalist and is very pleasant and puts you at ease. She explains her findings very well along with options to solve whatever is found. I'm not one who likes to have work done in my mouth, but they go out of their way to make it easy and they constantly make sure you are comfortable. They also keep you informed on what they are doing and give you a good idea of when they will be finished doing whatever they are doing. I've been very happy with the results and functionality of the work she's performed. I can remember one time she did something that I thought looked quite good. She took another look at her work, and she was not happy with the result and re-did the composite filling that met her standard which is obviously much higher than mine. That's the mark of a true professional and one who cares about her work and is a measure of her artistic talents. I think from her reviews nearly all her patients feel the same way. When you're laying in her very comfortable chair, you will hear the interaction between her and her staff with other patients. Everyone seems happy and the vibe in the office as I've previously mentioned is very positive. The auxiliary staff (assistants and hygienists) are very much the same. They are gentle, warm, and compassionate and put the patients at ease. They even go out of their way to laugh at my poor attempts at humor. I did read a review from "A K.". After reading that review, I can honestly say that is not how this office operates at all. The Marcos team is very straightforward and honest and they truly care about their patients. I had a similar thing happen to me as AK but my interpretation of the events are completely different. I had an old larger composite filling that was failing when I first started seeing Dr. C. She told me it was "leaking" and there was some decay along the perimeter of the filling. As she got into the procedure after removing the filling and the associated decay was removed, she told me that it is pretty close to the pulp (nerve) and she would try and put in a filling that would insulate the new filling from the nerve. But the tooth may become sensitive and could require a root canal. The tooth was sensitive for a few days after the procedure but calmed down, but a few months later it began to ache. Sure enough, I ended up needing a root canal. I was well informed and not "upset" whatsoever as Dr. C did not put the decay there. I've never experienced any "hard" sales or pushy upsells or anything that is a "swindle". They simply present what is found and list out all the options and their associated benefits along with other possible alternatives and let the patient decide what is best for their situation. I've never got the impression from my many years being a patient along with feedback from the countless patients I"ve personally referred this practice's motivation is financial. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Dr. C and Dr. A and their staff are truthful, honest, and ethical to the core. I give my wholehearted recommendation to anyone considering this practice. You will be grateful you've chosen to come here. read more

I'm the UPS guy in the area; looking for a new dentist on my route I had a ton of options and I chose Marcos & Marcos because a) they have the nicest office, b) they have the friendliest staff, and c) they let me take free coffee everyday I made an excellent choice; I'm seriously lucky to have this dental office on my route. Every visit I'm totally relaxed and comfortable...I actually took a nap while getting a filling! I'm impressed with Dr. Carliza, I feel I'm in good hands here and I highly recommend. Dr. Carliza Marcos is down-to-earth and is really good at remembering individuals (she even spotted me at Hillsdale mall and made sure to come say "hi"). Very well-run office, appointments are timely, they really care about your dental health; I also like the ability to watch Netflix during my appointments. I just changed jobs last year and was so happy to find out that they were in network with my new insurance (my last company changed insurance plans, making M&M out-of-network, but they are worth the out-of-network cost). Recently I had to have my first crown and was amazed to find they have a state-of-the-art Cerec machine that makes a crown during your visit. This is my rating because of an 'amazingly' incompetent office staff- it is in the form of an email I wrote this dental practice on 9/30/2016: My 'amazing day' began with a call from your office that they did not think they had my correct information...Huh? So I repeated the same information I had given three days earlier and got ready for my 11am appointment there. Three days earlier, on 9/27, I had spoken to 'Christine' and gave her the information she required: my SS#, my birthdate, and the # of my Delta Dental/AARP insurance; she also asked me to please request that my Endodontist send my xrays to your office, which I immediately did. The second call from your office today announced that you could not accept HMO, only PPO...Why did you not think to ask that initially? So, although I had an 11 am appointment this morning, and had asked a friend to please drive me as I am disabled (she took the morning off work), I had to forget about it! The inefficiency and lackadaisical attitude displayed by your office staff is what is 'amazing'. Wasting everyone else' time without a thought. And what kind of explanation did I receive when I asked how is it that the top Endodontist in Cupertino accepts HMO but this office does not (and does not think to ask during the first phone contact, either). Staff, specifically a woman named Mignon, was helpful in correcting what was explained to me as a "misunderstanding". I was told it's usually policy to notify the patient before procedures about billing practices. My initial cleaning was billed to me upfront because of the assumption that I would come in for later cleanings-- In order to make it so that my insurance would cover the latter. That being said, it's a pretty big assumption and I would've appreciated this being discussed. In the end M&M DDS understood my dissatisfaction and billed my initial treatment to my insurance. I ended up being refunded a third of the initial cost. They did well to try and correct the situation, but the slight shouldn't have occurred in the first place unfortunately. read more

This dental office is one of the best!!! The Marcos' not only have been a great family friend, but our family dentist for as long as I could remember. My folks have been coming here since I was three or maybe 5. Although this location is their newest venture, we have been to all their other previous locations, such as their SF and Milpitas locations. This one in San Carlos has been the most aesthetically pleasing, most professional, as well as cozy. As you walk into the dental office, they have a reception area with cozy chairs and foot massages as you wait. As well as a fridge filled with juice, water, and coffee and tea. The entire place is clean and friendly. They have a separate room for consultations which I think is awesome, because you can sit down uninterrupted and discuss one of the most private parts of your body. My parents have purchases electric toothbrushes from her as well as specific toothpastes for their teeth and gum needs. My 2 and a half year old daughter also loves coming here. They are so kind to her and caring. Dr. Anthony is hilarious!! I remember as a child coming to see him and he would sing as he was pulling out my teeth. I remember how comfortable I was. He's also great at numbing pain. You know how sometimes you go to the dentist and they inject novacaine and you can feel the damn needle. I hate that...NOT WITH the Marcos' Come check out their office!!! You will definitely not be disappointed!! P.S. As I was walking up to the office I was thinking to myself, "Wow, what a beautiful building, this place is going to be way too expensive for me.' And while prices vary based on the kind of dental insurance a patient has, I was truly amazed at my quote. It seemed extremely affordable. And I don't even have premium dental insurance. Plus, Dr. A said he'd sand down a poorly fitted crown (done by another dentist) for free when I came in to get my cavities filled. He seemed like he really cared about the state of my gums and teeth and was sensitive to my need to stay on budget. I said jokingly, "Now I get my free paraffin treatment on my nails?" to the assistant as she walked me out. (I had read an article about Marcos & Marcos while I was waiting in their waiting room that mentions the paraffin treatment and talks about how they want their office to be spa-like. The article also said Marcos & Marcos' goal is to treat their patients the same way as they would family and friends. That's why they call their waiting room a 'living room.' They want you to feel at home. It also mentioned the beautiful building they're in. It's a former garden apartment complex built in the 1930's, which has been turned into a medical center of sorts.) And the setting really is spa-like, and the assistant said I could definitely get the paraffin treatment when I came in for the fillings--all I have to do is mention it. She said they don't usually do those during initial consults because too much has to be covered in the short time. Totally cool--I can't wait for my free manicure while I get my cavities filled. I also really enjoyed the coffee machine they have. I love it when dr's have them: It's the kind that brews individual cups. They also have hot chocolate and a mini fridge filled with all kinds of cold drinks for people in the living room, i.e. waiting room. It's a serve-yourself drink station. Regarding the person who said "seriously, they require new patients to schedule a meeting for the sole purpose of meeting about services," I just wanted to say that my husband and I both did not have to have 'a meeting about services' during the initial consult. I also read that a patient had come in for a Zoom whitening treatment but got a "bait and switch." I think they were just practicing good dentistry, because anyone who has done a little research can tell you that teeth whitening sessions with light treatments do not work. The teeth only appear whiter because teeth look whiter when they become completely dry. The only thing that works is the gel trays or Crest white strips, or any strips or gels that have the essential whitening ingredient, carbamide peroxide. After moving to the Bay are from Texas recently, I looked on Yelp to find a dentist. If you are used to BMW service, and you want the same from your dental care experience, then this is the place for you. Paraffin wax - check, herbal eye mask - check, best cleaning I have ever had - check, the most amazing technology in everything they do - check! I just moved to the bay and always expect high tech everywhere I go, but not so much at the destist office - they blew me away....even thier soap dispensers are high tech! Aside from all of the special add ons, they take great care of you, no pain, use all the best equipment, very clean and take care of wanting to preserve your teeth as long as you live. Very family oriented as well. All of this of course comes with a price. This is not the Wal-mart of dentistry, it's the Nordstrom....but not the super pricey boutique section of Nordstrom, just the normal section where you pay a small premium for the best. Who can complain about that!!?? Dr. Anthony is so nice and has such a great personality. He doesnt talk to you like he has an ego since he is a Dr. just like a person. Also I was late to both of my appointments and while I know the staff wanted to probably cuss me out, they were so nice about it and just rescheduled me quickly. I really feel that this is a top notch dentist office. (this is a long review) We moved into the area needing a dentist, as one does after relocating, and read the all the glowing reviews for *several* dentists on the peninsula. Truth be told, I chose this one because the other ones didn't return my call. I had an immediate need for a dentist and was able to get in to see Dr. Carliza and even before a standard new patient exam, she put a temporary medicated filling in and then scheduled the other exams. I've had several experiences with others in the medical profession that will not see you as an emergency patient without a consult first. I'm so glad it wasn't the case here. Since then, myself and my 3 kids have been in *many* times (partially due to us not having insurance until now and being nearly a year since seeing a dentist) and everyone has been super friendly. They will call if there is an earlier opening and try to schedule appts around my kids and my schedule. It may seem like there is a lot of work that is found that needs to be done, but I never received any pressure to get things done, in fact in some cases I was the one requesting things done. I appreciate that if Dr. C finds, upon removing a filling or crown or such, that something doesn't need to be done--she doesn't do it. The office is definitely state of the art, but her emphasis is on prevention so the high-techness helps her to stop a potential problem before it becomes a problem, usually with a sealant, not a drill. You can see with the x-rays and the camera where the problem is, not just take her word for it. Its also a nice touch that she'll call you after you're home and the numbness wears off to see how you are doing. She also shares her cell phone with you in case you need her after hours. The crowns while you wait are awesome, no second appt needed, yay! And its refreshing that no amalgam is used in the office. She is great with my kids, including my 4 year old who needed a filling--I think it hurt Dr. C more than it did my daughter; my daughter was just annoyed when she couldn't see the movie screen, lol. Best. Dentist. Ever. Had some cavities about 6 months ago. They of course had to poke me with needles for the numbing agent, BUT: I couldn't even feel the needles. Dentists seems to do this thing where they wiggle the needle to make sure that stuff really numbs your nerves well. BUT: M&M wiggled the tissue while keeping the needle stationary and it fools your jaw into only feeling the tissue wiggling - not the needle. For all the other cool tech they have there - this was the best thing. read more

I have been going to Marcos & Marcos, DDS for close to 2 years and they have been taking care of my teeth very well. The office is very clean and pleasant to go to. They are always on time and do the job right. I hated that I had to wait 30 minimum at my previous dentist. I would definitely recommend this practice. read more

I've been experiencing pain in my teeth for a couple of months, and after numerous dental appointments and two other dentists, I decided to ask for a third opinion. I heard about Dr. Carliza's practice from a family member and I am so grateful for it. I love efficiency and the option to fill out my paperwork online from the comfort of my home instead of having to go in early. The waiting room was very comfortable and they have a cool coffee/tea machine! The staff was very friendly, even at 8am. They were professional and knowledgeable. I was given a quick tour of the office before my appointment. During my consultation with Dr. Carliza, I was asked a series of diagnostic questions about my current condition. Dr. Carliza was very attentive to my responses and also performed a series of diagnostic tests on my teeth. I especially loved the educational videos explaining what kind of work was going to be done and the aftermath. All of my charges were explained to me upfront and as well as all charges to be billed to my insurance. I am in fact feeling much better than before and I have Dr. Carliza and her team to thank for that. They were able to look for other solutions rather than giving me a 'canned' answer. I will definitely recommend this dental office to anyone I know. (Did I mention that I live in San Francisco and drove all the way to San Carlos for this visit? AND I would do it again!) read more
