As a fellow trainer I find the 1 star reviews complete garbage. The dog with the limp was bought from PETLAND a place that has no breeding standards whatsoever. The vet records already indicated that the dog might have hip dysplasia. I have a 10 month old GSD at my rescue bought from petland and the dog is blind. The genetics are terrible, the breeders are terrible the AKC is a joke. Their job is to pump out dogs and make money with no regards to health or temperament. No researching of the genes or DNA test. It's not the owners fault for not knowing what kind of dogs they produce and sell. But to blame a limp on a trainer to ruin their business because of your lack of education is asinine. Completely disrespectful. I've seen how she trains the dogs. There is nothing in her curriculum that would cause a limp on purpose. To the shock therapy guy. You have a little lack of education on the training tools and I can't blame you for that. However they are training tools. When used properly they can do magnificent things. Such as training a deaf dog utilizing the pager (vibration) function and low level stimulus. 1 tap on the stimulus can mean sit 2 taps means down 3 quick taps means heel and use the vibration for recall. Most trainers that refuse to explore that particular tool are the same ones they will tell you they can't help you and to put the dog down. A leash is not viewed as a bad training tool right? But if I take a leash and slap the shit out of a dog with it, it is now bad. It's all about how you use the tool, if you don't have the education and understand the science behind it you can ruin a dog for sure. But if you do you can make them shine. I've seen gentle leaders and harnesses injure dogs before. Petsmart is why those tools have a bad name behind them and are viewed as fear inducing torture devices. They offer training classes with a clicker, but will not offer a prong or e collar class. But you can bet your ass they will sell them to you without an education in isle 6. With all that being said I am a competitor with this company in the same industry. If you're thinking about going with them as a trainer do it. Do not let these garbage reviews sway you in anyway. read more

We have a rescue chihuahua mix who had such terrible fear aggression we were almost held hostage to his behaviors. We camp and he would act out if he saw a dog, golf cart, new person or kid on a bike. He would bark and thrash like he had rabies and even bite us when we tried to remove him from any situation. We tried everything - Prozac, treats, etc. It was to the point we were going to have to get him training as a last resort or send him back to the rescue and we worried they would put him to sleep. We have friends who referred us to Alison with MarcumK9 and we sent Eddie to her 15 Day live-in intensive training. When Eddie came home he was a totally different dog - much more calm and his body language more relaxed. He could sit, walk on lead with automatic sits when we stopped, he waited by the door for me to give him the "release" to go out and he would come when called. I could place him and walk 25 ft away and he would stay in place! He now rides in the backseat of the car, resting quietly instead of trying to go through the windshield at every car and truck on the highway. He wears a pressure chain collar and an e-collar to allow us to remind him with controlled voice and active commands how to respond in every situation. We do work with him daily but each day he demonstrates better and better control over his behaviors. I was not a believer in dog training and it was a big decision to leave him - we could not be happier with the results. She text us every day with pics and videos and allowed me to ask questions about how he was doing. She is responsible and professional and genuinely enjoys working with the dogs. Our life and Eddie's is immensely better because of MarcumK9 training. We camped for the first time this weekend since his training and everyone with us couldn't believe he is the same dog. Wow where do I begin.. We sent our 1 1/2year old Rottweiler Boss to Marcum and all I can say is THANK YOU! Our baby boy began to show signs of severe aggression and lack of obedience. We were recommended to do the 20 day program which we jumped right onboard with. Once training ended we legit had a brand new dog, had he not been excited to see me I would have been convinced he didn't belong to us. He came back transformed with such a short turn around. He has begun to regain his trust in us as confident dog owners. This transformation was one that I could have only imagined. Before sending my baby away I was so stressed daily with his constant behavioral issues, walking him was a nightmare and having company rarely existed. I cannot thank the ladies at Marcum K9 enough. Because of their work with our sweet boy Gil, we were able to keep our little family intact! Gil was an anxious wreck when we brought our infant son home for the first time. He would jump, whine, bark and stop listening to all commands because of his nervous state. We couldn't have our son and our dog in the same room for fear of Gil accidentally hurting the baby while he was showing so much excited energy. After a 5 day board and train, Gil came back to us a changed dog! He is more confident and listens SO well, no matter what the distraction is. He is calm and allows us to be in control (something we have struggled with since he was a baby!). I have worked closely with local animal shelters for over 10 years and would not send my dog to just anyone. After careful vetting, many recommendations and an in-person consultation, we chose Marcum - and I'm so glad we did. My miniature goldendoodle, Oliver, just completed his first 5 of 15 days with Marcum and I am already blown away! It feels like we brought home a completely different puppy but in all the best ways. I took my 8 month Sheltie to Marcum K9 and it was the best decision EVER! JACK learned so much in 10 days that it is truly unbelievable. Libby did an excellent job with him. She taught me the proper commands and we practiced what he had learned the day I picked him up. They will answer your texts or emails during the training and after your dog is home. My diabetic alert service dog, Harley, has spent a total of 30 days of board and training here with Allison and her team. I could not be happier with our experience here! Harley's health and safety was their top priority. I was always amazed when Allison would send me daily videos of Harley's training. Allison trained my dog several years ago and did a wonderful job. Kayce became a different dog. She was more confident, obedient and relaxed following her training. To this day when Allison watches Kayce for vacation trips, Kayce get excited when we pull up and she sees Allison. After her training was complete, Allison worked with me on how to successfully continue Kayce's training. Allison is an amazing trainer. I was ready to get rid of my puppy as she had pushed every once of patience I had. Since she's only 4 months old, we did the 5- day board and train.
