I hired Sea Beast Design & Construction (Sebastian Barbagallo) as General Contractor for a…read moreresidential project in Fair Lawn, NJ under a written contract in March 2026.. I paid Sea Beast $68,190 against the contract and separately paid $17,176 directly for materials I had no contractual obligation to pay -- $85,366 total -- yet MULTIPLE major scope items remained incomplete or not meaningfully progressed with only weeks left on the schedule. These included the porticos, exterior brick samples, simple framing and finish details, unable to install simple door hardware, the HVAC condenser pad (the condenser itself was paid for but not on site), step repointing and masonry, main electrical service, exterior hardware, interior doors (despite a $3,000 advance for them), and the kitchen, which was never properly coordinated, ordered or released. Sea Beast also failed to provide the conditional lien waivers, a simple bill that wasn't a demand for money that needs to be today which was required with each progress payment, and continued to demand additional payment while materially overbilled relative to work completed. I issued a formal Notice of Performance Issue on April 4, 2026 requiring a written cure plan, manpower and sequencing plan, procurement status, revised schedule, lien waivers, and payment reconciliation. Sea Beast acknowledged receipt but did not provide the required cure documentation. I issued a Notice of Default on April 8, 2026 under the contract's default provision, which required cure commencement within 36 hours. The required cure was not provided. I terminated the contract for default and am pursuing damages. I would not hire Sea Beast Design & Construction again and would not recommend them for residential general contracting work. I've filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.

It took us 10 years to find someone who was up to the task but it was well worth the wait. The owner, Darko, and his team first remodeled our three bathrooms, which are now beautiful. Because we were so happy with our bathrooms, we had them redo our basement (which is not only lovely with a new laundry room but no longer gets wet when it rains) and then our kitchen, which is stunning. This space was transformed from a dysfunctional and unattractive old room to a beautiful contemporary space with a beam from a 150 year old barn that visually separates the kitchen from the dining room. It's really great! We also had them side our house with hardy shale, which will never need painting, and they added details to the exterior by using antique bricks. Because we loved the antique brick on the exterior, Darko suggested that we use it on the fireplace wall in our living room. It's beautiful! They are currently converting our two garage into a cottage with a state of the art kitchen and bathroom, small living room, and bedroom that has lots of windows and closet space. Its amazing! The very high quality of his work at affordable prices makes BOGY construction stand out from competitors in town. Darko has exacting standards and uses the highest quality materials in all of his projects. He and his team are also very respectful when working in the home. He works closely with an engineer and architect to make sure the new construction maximizes existing space and is structurally sound. It is his attention to detail, high quality of craftsmanship, reasonable prices, and collaborative work ethic that keeps us and his many other clients in town coming back time and time again for other projects. In short, I HIGHLY recommend BOGY construction for both small and large jobs in your home. Though we often wished that jobs would go a little faster, we also know that it takes time, thought, and great care to produce a beautiful living space with interesting details that will set your home apart from others. With years of experience in home construction, you will be getting someone who will help you work out creative and beautiful solutions to your home. We are a small business who was hired to build cabinetry and millwork for Bogy Construction, LLC. In the end everything was completed to the owner's satisfaction but Bogy Construction, as the General Contractor, never paid us our remaining payments. To this day (years later) he hasn't paid us. In fact we still have his useless checks that couldn't be cashed because of lack of funds. We pay our employees, our taxes, our suppliers, do quality work, and somehow he felt it was okay not to pay for the work we did. We have a good reputation and it's people like this who give businesses a black eye.
