This review is based on the restaurants in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico. We have been going to Puerto Penasco for many years but have never dined at Mare Blu Ristorante. We are so happy we finally decided to make a reservation for dinner. It was my husband's birthday and everything from start to finish was perfect. The restaurant is very nice, all white with blue accents and white table cloths. Where in Puerto Penasco can you dress up and dine with white table cloths! We arrived a little early so we could have a drink at the bar before dinner. The hostess immediately greeted us with a huge smile and directed us the bar. Our bartender, Federico was very polite and again, a huge smile. We asked to sit by the window so we could see the ocean and they had a table reserved for us which was perfect. Elan was our server, was attentive and never left us waiting for anything. In addition, the other staff such as food delivery and bus boys were all wonderful. They start by serving warm and delicious bread rolls and butter. We ordered the caprese salad as a starter which was good. The mozzarella was a little dry for us but tomatoes were fresh. For entrees we ordered the Farfalle Con Filetto. Farfalle pasta in a creamy aloutte alfredo sauce, Tenderloin filet, mushrooms, onion, spinach and garlic. My husband ordered the Penne Alma Vodka. Penne pasta in a bodka flamed panna rosa sauce. Added Shrimp. Each entree came with a side salad. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and plentiful. In addition, they brought a piece of cake for my husband's birthday! We were told they have a pianist on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday nights. We really enjoyed our experience and will make Mare Blu and regular dining spot every visit to PP going forward. read more

Beautiful location and interior. We sat outside during sunset and it was perfect. They have some great wine options, including wines from Mexico. Our server was great & knowledgeable about the menu! The food was good. The bruschetta was fresh & the blackened grouper was outstanding. The penne pasta was good, but could have used a little more flavor. My husband and I wanted to have a nice romantic dinner on our last night here in Rocky Point. This place did not disappoint. The food was great, our waiter Valentin was very attentive and explained the dishes very well. My husband had a sangria and I had a sweet wine. Your dishes are removed when you finish eating and the view from Inside the restaurant is beautiful. We will definitely come back. My husband had a seabass allá pescadora and I had Shrimp Brioni. Great place in Rocky Point. One of the few upscale restaurants for white tablecloth dining. Good vibe although was a little loud inside tonight. Depending on weather and time of year, the patio can be marvelous and a great spot of r sunset dining. Good location at the end of Sandy Beach. Be mindful it's a dirt road for the last stretch from about at the Esmerelda to the restaurant. The clam chowder is fantastic. A must get each visit. If you're looking for fish fillet, the seabass is good but the flounder better, albeit much lighter. The Mare Blu shrimp was delicious also and had a little unexpected heat. The Alfredo was basic but delicious as well. I believe you can get any of the pastas as a side dish. Very nice wine list with a few nice Italian and Mexican wines to choose from. Good desserts as well and ice joyed both the cannoli and the cheesecake. A few oddities about the menu where things are listed without sides and came with unexpected side dishes, so ask the waiter to clarify. Overall, great meal tonight on my second visit this year. Seems to be consistently good. Recommended. Will go back. read more

If you come from the US or Canada and used to leave say...$300-400 or more for a beyond outstanding three course, a wine bottle, more wine to go with the meat and a great dessert all for less than US$130...AND a fantastic location on a beautiful sandy beach but staying clean, or getting your shoes full of sand, whichever you choose, this is the place. Oh, let me not forget: warm, friendly crews, phenomenal service with no pressure to "order or leave" as we constantly encounter back in the US or Canada (we are citizens of both and spend time in these to compare)...what else can I say? We have been there probably 30 or 40 times. The food is normally very good. The bartenders are extra extraordinary. We spent Thanksgiving a week there and had dinner there After dinner, we went to sit with our favorite bartender, cause he makes crazy. Good drinks. The owner's daughter was sitting there doing absolutely nothing but playing with her phone There were two men at the bar with two I think, professional girls. They were extremely loud and making it uncomfortable for everyone and I mentioned something. They did nothing to it so I said I'm going to call the cops. Got them to react a little bit. Management did nothing to stop these angry drunk assholes. We're at Mexico. I would've physically done something, but you know it being in Mexico. There are far too many great Russians, there that have actual security to prevent assholes from fucking up the night read more

Probably our best meal in Rocky Point. Service was impeccable. Great appetizer--warm bread with 3 dipping sauces, and main courses were adequately portioned. A very Americanized Christmas Day dinner... Not complaining, but definitely the only place with white tablecloths on the beach! The service was excellent with attentive waiters and bussers. I had a lovely grouper as my entrée, very tender and perfectly cooked. I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl as an appetizer and can truthfully say it was one of the best clam chowder ever. My partner and I shared a salad, it was huge and perfectly fresh. He's not a fish eater, but absolutely loved his lasagna. You have to make a reservation for a holiday unless you plan to sit at the bar. We chose to sit outside on the deck as the acoustics inside are hideous. We would not have been able to have a conversation in there. But it was Christmas Day and exceptionally crowded. read more

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Puerto Penasco!! I attached a photo of the view outside the restaurant as well as a photo of me there, so incredibly gorgeous! The fine dining feel and view is what you would pay in the US probably 3x what our bill was. We were given bread with the tastiest butter. I had filet mignon, shrimp and side which was made perfectly rare - equivalent of $29USD unreal! Probably the best I ever had. I don't have one bad thing to say they even let me charge my phone. Service was excellent! I didn't have dessert but took photo of my aunts to show you. Highly recommend, no cons, awesome staff! read more

It doesn't get much better than this! The arugula salad was spectacular. Make sure to get the mixed vegetables. Broccoli, asparagus , carrots, and artichoke hearts perfectly seasoned. My flounder was thick and superbly cooked with a delicious sauce that didn't overwhelm the fish. Great service and a beautiful building with a nice view of the sea. read more

As someone who has been visiting Penasco for many years with many different goals, mare Blu is prob the best dining experience I have ever had in Peñasco. This restaurant is next to Wrecked at the Reef where as a very young man out of high school my friends and I would visit for the all you can drink specials and remote 4x4 dunes. Now the place is super classy and the best food in Peñasco. Mare Blu is prob the only 5 star food in Peñasco. My wife and I did date night here and was offered a Mare Blu branded wine made in Mexico. We ordered the filet mignon with shrimp , the crab ravioli and the beef carpaccio. All of it was exquisite! The staff was friendly and spoke Spanish and English and the views of the gulf are wonderful. They have Indoor and outdoor seating with great sunset views. Don't waste your time with other seafood spots, this costs less or the same as el male on with better results. read more

Great Location facing the ocean, Great Food! Why only 3 Stars? We were greeted at the door and I was wished a Happy Birthday by several staff members as my wife had included that on the reservation as it was my birthday a few days from that night. We were seated about 7PM. Ordered drinks from the pleasant waiter served them quickly. Got the soup relatively quickly, but then........ So we were "asked" about 8PM if we had gotten our salad, which we had not. So then it came out quickly. Then dinner was Finally served and Very good! We ordered the Flaming Coffee at the recommendation of a friend and it was a show in itself, see the picture! But the real disappointment was that for other Birthdays, the waiters all go together and sang. We were forgotten, to my wife's disappointment. So the food was great, but the experience was marred by SLOW service and their forgetting the Birthday And YES, other parties came in later and were finished before we were served, it was not that crowded................... read more

I was super impressed with this restaurant. We came to rocky point for a few days and this was definitely a favorite of mine. Italian cuisine with ocean front views and great service.. what more could you ask for?? Not to mention the quality of the food was up to par with American restaurants. We ordered the calamari and caprese salad to start and boy oh boy was it good. The caprese was fresh and delightful. It had a great flavorful from the pesto and balsamic glaze. The calamari was good too, just an ordinary calamari. Also, free bread for the table and it was served with this awesome butter sauce! Loved it. I ordered the alla Florentina for dinner and I was so surprised by how much I liked it. It almost felt like a guilty pleasure. Creamy, rich, and flavorful. All chicken dishes come with a side of pasta and a small house salad. You literally can not go hungry here. The atmosphere was quite nice as well. Classy, upscale, but rather inexpensive in my opinion. I paid for my dish and the caprese and the bill was only 26$! So you get quantity and quality. Staff spoke very good English and were very helpful with specials and recommendations. 10/10 would recommend and if/when I come back, I'll be there! read more

This place was truly a fantastic gem to find, we've been coming down to RP for years & never took the time to notice Mar Blu next to Wrecked by the Reef. Service was quick as soon as arriving, our waiter was incredible & funny! Celebrated my 30th birthday here. To drink we ordered the lemon drop martini, so delicious & Dos beer on tap! For starters, we choose the calamari/fried zucchini, it was a golden beauty, fresh squid & zucchini, & the light marinara dipping sauce was perfect! They give you a free basket of warm Focaccia bread with this sun dried tomato whipped butter (dangerously good!!) We added Caesar salad's to our mains, dressing was definitely homemade & parmesan cheese was yummy! For our mains, we chose the seafood pasta, (clams, mussels, scallops, & shrimp) in a light red sauce with fettuccini pasta 10/10! The lobster raviolis were generous portion of meat inside, honestly couldn't finish the whole plate it was so decadent & filling. For dessert the restaurant whipped up a free chocolate mousse dessert, and also came out to sing! The overall ambiance with the candles and 360 clear glass window view of the sea, I would hands down recommend this place to anyone who wants quality ingredients, local fresh seafood & amazing service!! Went there yesterday for dinner. Crowded but got seated quickly. Beautiful sunset, was amazing to sit outside and watch the full sunset. Their out door lighting was horrible more burned out bulbs than ones that lit. Bruschetta was good, toasted bread was soaked in oil, just different as I make it differently. I ordered Chicken Florentine and could hardly find the chicken under all the very rich sauce. Piece of chicken was flat almost as if they sliced the chicken breast. Husband ordered a steak and it had so much gristle and was tough. Service was slow but with so many large parties it could be expected. Would not recommend. read more

Went there on a Wednesday evening got there at 4:45 and I was out by 6:30 very beautiful place got there with the family of 11. We had a variety of different meals from steak, shrimp, and fettuccine. Everything was really good. I think the price was reasonable came out to $611. That's with the tip and drinks and everything on alcohol and one glass of wine. And the rest of us had fresh lemonade that was really good. Service was amazing and the staff were so friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend this place for a nice fancy meal. read more

This place was ok. Had reservations and they told us they didn't have a good seat for us. We got put into a corner with absolutely no view. I had the seafood marinara. The red sauce was so thick... it was hard to appreciate the seafood. My man ordered ravioli. Maybe there were 5. Flat. Bland looking and tasting. Save your money and go to Al Capone's if you want Italian. If you want the view and have a good time go to wrecked by the sea next door. If you want a nice dinner and your renting a condo at one of the luxury buildings... hire a chef to come for a night. read more
