Chips and their house made salsa, very similar to El Rancho up in Gaylord. And these are the beef fajitas my wife ordered.

My wife and I decided to try this restaurant last evening, other restaurants have that have been there lately haven't been that good. The service was very good, but they don't have their liquor license yet. After looking at the very difficult to read menu my wife and I both decided to try fajitas, she had the beef and I had the fajitas Rancho, she enjoyed her beef fajitas and the fajitas Rancho that I had were fantastic, they had beef, chicken, pork, and chorizo sausage, my wife tried mine, and I know what we will both be having next time!

Northern Michigan has a dire need for authentic and quality Mexican restaurants. I grew up in the Detroit area then lived in Grand Rapids and now I reside in northern Michigan..so I have a pretty good idea of what we typically see throughout the state of Michigan and for that reason I'm very biased and kind of a tough critic when it comes to Mexican restaurant because there are so many good ones in the Detroit area that I love. After trying 2 places in gaylord and 1 in houghton I was loosing hope. My parents live in grayling and my mom LOVES Mexican so she tried this place as soon as it opened and initially told me she was not impressed. However I wanted to try it for myself. My mom agreed to try it again today for a light lunch before we were going to grocery shop. Here's my breakdown: SERVICE- good but not great. Our host/waitress, greeted us upon entry seated us and asked about drinks. As we were looking the menu over and discussing what we wanted she overheard us questioning if they served lunch portions on the weekend... butted into our conversation to tell us that it's only Monday through Friday... nice to have clarification but had I have gone through the whole menu I would have read that myself instead of her feeling the need to break into our private conversation. No big deal but not in good taste. We asked about specials and she pointed outside that they were listed on a sign. First off she should know them second they should have them on a card in a holder at the tables especially if they are reoccurring. She grabbed chips and salsa and took our orders efficiently. When we left however she did not say goodbye or anything of that nature "thanks for coming.... see you next time..." nothing. FOOD- we both ordered combo #5, beef taco, enchilada with beans and rice. A cup of chicken tortilla soup. The complimentary chips and salsa was FANTASTIC. Home made warm chips with fresh and vibrant salsa. Perfect blend of herbs and spices and did remind me of the salsa at el rancho located in gaylord. The tacos were anything special but were warm and the meat inside has great flavor they also use very good quality queso style shredded cheese. The hard taco would go from good to amazing If they made their own shell... they could of course too because the chips are gone made and amazing..the enchilada was also good did have good flavor but the sauce it's self could've been amplified a little bit with better seasonings setting it apart from what comes in can (not saying for sure it was but it could be) The chicken tortilla soup was very very good which surprised me the only place that I really like this soup is at El Charro in Macomb area in southeastern Michigan. This was Light and fresh with cilantro and lime flavors in the broth. Also guacamole and pico topped the fresh cut tortilla strips. It was perfection. We didn't order dessert or alcoholic beverages this visit so I can't speak to that. PRICE: fair pricing but the portions are on the small side. Silly not to offer a lunch portion for a lower price all days of the week though. Not sure how my combo could have been smaller really. ATMOSPHERE: clean, modern and rustic yet still colorful with touches of Spanish artwork and decor. Honestly super cute for the area and style of restaurant. They had a small bar and both booths and tables. We will be back I was impressed on most accounts.

Best Mexican food of northern Michigan. I have been coming to grayling for years and I'm so excited to have a great Mexican option so close to downtown grayling. I had their special with steak and cheese on a bed of rice with tortillas.

Mother's Day Pumpkin dessert was complimentary for all the moms! Delicious!

Full bar as well including draft beers, custom margaritas and seating at the bar if you're wanting that. Prices were reasonable. 5-stars in these areas. My husband and I are trying to eat low-carb so we chose the Molcajetes Mexicana bowl. Definitely enough for two. Peppers and onions are suited with a flavorful sauce and covered with a flat, thin square of steak and chicken, a skewer of shrimp, chorizo and a chunk of cheese. A side of beans and rice plus tortillas are included. Interesting combination of flavors and textures. It was piping hot and looked wonderful. The meat tended to be somewhat dry and flavorless on its own but was more flavorful when swirled with the other spices and vegetables. The chink of cheese just seemed weird. We rated this main a 4-star. We would definitely return to try some other entrees. Overall an enjoyable dining experience.

For $55 we got 2 horchatas, a small chips and salsa, shrimp taco meal, and the breakfast number 1. My daughter really enjoyed the homemade horchata, I like mine with a little more spice but it was very creamy, lightly sweet, and I would order again. Salsa was processed smoothly with very few pieces of veg if that's how you like it, the flavor was good, very mild. The chips were not homemade but also good for being the standard tortilla chip. The tacos are American style with flour tortillas, cheese, and sour cream which is not our preferred way to eat tacos so that's on us. If you like American style these were spot on. The rice was fantastic and the side of beans were pinto beans and not refried, also tasty but soupy. The scrambled eggs with carnitas were so oily that they were swimming in the bottom. Additionally the menu indicated they came with cheese and hash brown but mine was missing as can be seen in the photo (rectified immediately and kindly so absolutely not a complaint). The green salsa was minimal, would have preferred more as that was where the only real flavor came from. I wouldn't order again due to the oil. We may return and try again as the food was fresh, nicely cooked, the service was fantastic, and the place was spotless. We just like a little more authentic with perhaps different spice levels of salsa (little more spicy).
