Karaoke, Tuesday nights at Marguerite's restaurant in Colonial Beach VA
    Kaz Z.

Been to this restaurant quite a few times now and absolutely love it. Fresh, good and reasonably priced food. And now they have Karaoke on Tuesday nights. Since I'm a Karaoke junkie, this place is now a win-win for me.

Food was so good the first time, we came back for lunch today. We got carry out - whole chicken (Pollo Entero) with beans and yucca. Fed a family of four with a little bit of leftovers for about $25. And as yummy as the last time. So good. This will be one of our go to takeout meals.

Services uniforms were so cute as well as the whole restaurant decked out with sunflowers and trinkets of all kinds. Recommend this place for a quick lunch or a long sit down dinner. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. The meal started off poorly when the bread was served cold. The kani salad appetizer was just okay; the crab should have been finely shredded, but instead came in large chunks, and the spicy mayo was overpowering. For our entrées, he initially ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the grilled yellowfin tuna. My tuna arrived cold and chewy, so it was replaced with a filet mignon. I requested medium, but several portions were rare and inedible for me. Overall, the kitchen showed a clear lack of consistency. We both ordered the same filet mignon, yet his vegetables were soggy and overcooked while mine were undercooked and nearly raw. Even the bread was inconsistent--one piece stone cold, the next warm. His filet was overcooked, while mine was undercooked, despite both being ordered medium. Our server, Sally, was pleasant and attentive at first, but after I sent my food back and explained the issues, the level of service noticeably declined. There are approximately 8 tables inside, and they have a very large door patio. This was, without question, the worst meal of our trip--made even more disappointing because it was our final meal. You hope to end a trip on a high note, and instead, we're leaving thoroughly disappointed. Based on the above I rate this restaurant a 1 out of 5 stars. The only reason it's not a zero (if that were an option) is that the server started off pleasant and one appetizer was "okay." But overall, this clearly didn't meet even basic expectations for quality or service.

At first we weren't impressed. It's a seat yourself place and the girls at the counter greeted us. And then we sat. And sat. We almost got up and left, but then our server came around the corner and looked shocked. Apparently no one told her we were there. After that though, she was ON POINT. We started with full size salads (we were hungry after hiking all day) - Caesar for Hubby (with chicken), because that's how he rolls, and the Ledo Italian for me. The Caesar dressing looked a little thick, but it was amazing! You can taste all the layers of flavor, even a hint on anchovy. Just the way it's supposed to be. What he really loved was the chicken! It was hit and fresh off the flat top. Super tasty. My Italian was good too - full of fresh ingredients. I did note that the menu pics show it has salami and pepperoni in it, but mine was missing the pepperoni. Not a big deal. The dressing was really interesting. It's called Ledo Romano Cheese and Herb Dressing, which I was picturing more as a vinaigrette, but it was actually creamy. Really flavorful though! It also comes with black olives and pepperonchinis, but I always skip those. On to the pizza - we ordered extra cheese and pepperoni. This is NOT NY style, so if you are expecting that, you are in the wrong place. What it is is a distinct flaky crust rectangle. They don't use mozzarella, either - it's smoked provolone. But do t let that bother you, the flavor is fantastic. The sauce has a hint of sweetness, which I actually prefer. You can taste the tomatoes better that way. It was loaded with cheese and that thick sliced pepperoni that they seem to be known for. Fantastic service, really (surprisingly) tasty food and decent prices will have us back again when in the area. The only reason they lose a star is because the crust on our pizza could have used a few more minutes in the oven. It was doughy.

We came here for a lunch get-together, as one of our counterparts was craving for a sandwich. I knew I wanted to try their Philly Steak, opting out of the green peppers, lettuce, and tomatoes; this came with chopped sirloin steak, mayo, and white American cheese no a toasted bun. Subs come in a 6" or 12", in which I opted for the 6". The sub itself was pretty okay; it was generously filled, beefy, and filling. The bread itself could have been better, as it was a little dry. They had a nice selection of Herr's chips, with various flavors I haven't seen before - we tried the Cheese Ravioli and Marinara flavored ones, and they were interesting! Staff were friendly, but the individual who was preparing the sandwiches seemed to be super overwhelmed in keeping up with the orders; she seemed a bit exasperated when asked for a side of missing toppings (such as the pickled jalapenos), getting the bathroom door unlocked, etc. Some of the other sandwiches that were prepared gave off some strong odors, particularly the proteins that were being cooked on the grill. This could be an issue for those who are sensitive to smells. The place doesn't have a sign, but it's near Domino's and Top's China. Located in The Shops at Beach Gate, there's plenty of parking in the large plaza lot. +decent subs +handful of seating inside
