Our "go to" restaurant in Colonial Beach. Tasty food and reasonably priced. Staff is extremely friendly.

We were greeted warmly, and our server was pleasant and attentive throughout the meal. The music, however, was classic American oldies--unexpected and not quite fitting for the restaurant. I would have preferred a more immersive Thai atmosphere to match the cuisine. We both enjoyed the edamame appetizer topped with sea salt, and when our entrées arrived, we immediately noticed the generous portion sizes. He ordered the garlic chicken special, which was decent but unremarkable. I chose the pineapple fried rice with chicken and enjoyed it, though I would have liked more pineapple and slightly larger pieces of chicken rather than the thin slices served. Overall, the experience was fine but not memorable. We don't regret dining here, though if we skipped it on a future visit to town, we wouldn't feel like we missed out. read more

the only good thing was the edamame. the chicken in the basil kapow was extremely dry, my wife got the chicken teriyaki and her chicken was reheated and every vegetable tasted pickled. we live in town but won't be going back here. very disappointed :( read more

Colonial Beach is a confined area, and I thought visiting for a late lunch on a Sunday in terrible weather might be the time when I was the only person there. Nothing could be further from the truth as the place was packed. I came-and I was not the only one-seeking vegetarian options among a region not full of them. I wasn't wowed at them using generic grocery store bottled tea. The food, however, was better. A set of spring rolls came with fresh vegetables and a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. My tofu was savory, spicy, and very fried. Despite the crowds, service was reasonably good. On a nicer day, covered outdoor space would have been available to sit. The experience would rate a bit lower in an urban area in my mind. But given that any urban area is a long way from here, I was happy with what I found. read more

Went for dinner with my husband and had an enjoyable meal. Server was a sweet lady who seems to have worked there a while as a regular customer came in and she knew her by name! Smaller sized menu but a great selection to still pick from. What we ordered was nice sized portions and cooked well. Cute lil spot in CB with a small parking lot and a handful of tables inside with some options to sit outside it seems too. read more

Such a cute little place! The Thai tea was excellent. We ordered the pad see ew tofu, chicken fried rice, dumplings, shrimp bikini, crispy duck and chicken pad thai. We had leftovers for sure after. My kids liked the dumplings, they were so mini and cute! My pad see ew and my husband's pad Thai both had great flavor. The duck was just okay and seemed a bit over seasoned. I would definitely come back to try other things on the menu. The lady at the front was also our server and was helpful and accommodating to our kiddos. When we got there no inside seating was available so we sat outside. I don't know if they are understaffed but there was a single waitress for the outside and she looked like she was also handling tables on the inside so getting service was spotty. There was six of us at the table and, while the food was good, it took a long time to get even as we watched the inside clear out, only to notice those inside that arrived after we did get their food long before ours. When our food finally started to arrive, there was roughly 15 minutes between when the first plate arrived and the last of our party finally got his meal, so we were all eating not together, but at different times. By the time we did get the final dish, there was really only 2 tables that had customers inside. Not sure if our waitress or kitchen forgot to enter our order or what, but even getting refills of drinks were far between. read more

This food had no business being this good. I am not from around here and decided to try this place on a mini vacation. It's surprised me how good it was! I am an Asian food aficionado and I am not easy to please. This place actually makes the food spicy when you ask for it spicy. The kind of spicy that leaves you wondering if it was worth it the next day when you're sitting on the toilet. Spoiler- it was worth it. I fell in love with our dishes. We got the drunken noodles and the basil fried rice. They put plenty of basil in the fried rice and the texture of the rice was perfect. The noodles were so delicious too. I also decided to try some Thai Tea with the dish and it was amazing! The only con was that my party specifically asked for them not to put bell peppers in either dish because I am allergic (not deathly). However, there were peppers in the fried rice even though the waitress clarified twice with us I didn't want them on either dish. Thankfully, I could just pick them out but it could have been a big problem if I were very allergic. In addition, the inside is not updated. However, as long as a place has great food... We stopped in for lunch after a quiet stroll along the beach. What a great Thai spot for a little beach town! We had several traditional dishes and they were all delicious. I especially enjoyed their Tom Kha soup, the coconut broth was rich and tangy with enough spice to feel warm and fuzzy. We also tried the chicken satay and the house fried rice and both were good. 10/10 recommend! Was not expecting the authenticity at this restaurant. Great, quick service and piping hot food packed with flavor. There's a decent amount of indoor seating but wouldn't recommend for groups larger than 6-8. Outdoor seating as well. The pad see ew noodles were so chewy and had the perfect consistency. And the pineapple fried rice wasn't dry and had a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Just wish the fried rice was in an actual pineapple! read more

Today, I ate the best green curry w/Chicken, I've ever had. -After some relaxation in the sun at Westmoreland State Park, I got hungry. Yelp led me to Orchid Thai Cuisine restaurant at Colonial Beach just 7 min away. Easy to find. Nice paking area. Cute storefront. - A man was cleaning off some outdoor tables and told me to come on in. I came in and he said I could sit wherever I want. He gave me a menu and talked to me a bit. Everyone in there was so nice. -I later found out they were closed until 5pm and it was only 3:30 so I apologized for interrupting their time off and they were like, no no...sit and eat. -Of course I tried their satay appetizer and their green curry with chicken medium heat. The satay came out on a tray with cucumber salad, red cabbage, carrots and two small toasts. I was impressed! It looked really nice. The Satay was yummy and peanut sauce also yummy. The cucumber salad is always so addicting. Very good appetizer. My Green Curry came in the most beautiful dish with a lid and rice on the side. Taking off the lid, I knew I would love it. It had chicken but not an obtuse amount. It was just right. Bell peppers and bamboo. The broth was perfect. It didn't make my eyes water but my mouth was hot! I had asked for can of ginger ale and it helped a lot. Delicious food, greatly presented. Cute little spot on the beach of the Potomac River at Colonial Beach. Hats off to this team! Exceeded my expectations. The curry, chicken satay, and garlic veg was excellent. My wife was definitely pleased with the mango sticky rice. Service was great and food came out quickly. I didn't like a plate and they took it back with no issues. The restaurant is casual and has ample seating both indoors and out. This was our first time in Colonial Beach and Orchid Thai was a wonderful bit of Asian cuisine. read more

As a transplant from Texas who loves bold flavors and spicy food, this place now has my heart! I feel like everywhere I've gone to eat since moving to this area has been bland or the menu says a dish is spicy and it is not spicy at all. But we tried this place and wow! Their Thai basil Ka'pow entree is so flavorful, I felt like crying tears of joy. My husband got the crispy duck dish and it blew us away. Not to mention the spice actually had some kick to it! Also props to bartender out drinks were great and the service was very attentive. I did not take any pictures because as soon as the fragrant Thai Basil hit my nose I scarfed that food down. Really good Thai food, good portion size and good prices. Appreciate the reasonable prices on the imported beers too, especially when other restaurants in town are charging more. Our favorites are the Papaya Salad, Pad Thai and the Green Curry. Had the Salmon Teriyaki a few weeks ago and it was delicious too. read more

I had heard good things about this place. They weren't lying. I had the Ka'pow and it was packing a balance of subtle spice. The kind of spice that leaves a nice finish when swallowing. The spice doesn't overpower like those places that let you choose the spice level. What I had didn't taste like you need ten glasses of water that leaves you wanting ten more. Ka'pow was meant to taste like that. They have a nice focused variety including vegan, vegetarian and kids options. The setting is not pretentious. You could probably walk in barefoot and no shirt on. If you wore a 3-piece suit and Wall Street smile, you'd also fit right in. Enjoy this place if you get the chance. Across the street is a pet owner gift store owned by the locally famous Dr.Self. The service was also outstanding, attentive and with a face that could make pessimistic company smile, if they bothered to look. Overall there is nothing that would deny this place an A+. read more

What a great find at the beach! Orchid Thai Cuisine has a very authentic Thai taste. Their Forest pork curry (no coconut milk curry) is super tasty. Stir fried Chinese broccoli was cooked perfectly crisp, The sauce for the soft shell crab is tangy and delicious. We loved every dish they served. This is a hidden gem I should not mention because it will blow up at some point, but I want them to be around selfishly. They serve up some of the most authentic Thai dishes I've had in a long time. The showstopper was the pork belly ka'pow. The crispy pork belly was out of this world delicious, they definitely did not skimp on the spices. If you don't eat pork, beef is also a great alternative. We started with that but this time the server recommended trying pork belly and now it's going to be my goto dish going forward. We also had the shrimp pad thai and beef pad see eww, which were outstanding. The noodles were chewy, each strand covered in the sweet and savory sauce without being wet. I'm so ready to be back to try more dishes. It makes my mouth water just writing this review. The food was so good, I forgot what the inside of the restaurant looked like. Honest, that never mattered to me so whatever. The restaurant is walking distant from the beach. I can believe this place exist and why is it not near my house?! Went twice and loved it both times. They don't hold back on the spice, which we love, but it wasn't so bad to burn your mouth either. Dishes we tried included soft shell crab, noodles with Asian BBQ pork (had green leafy vege on the bottom), a curry, drunken noodle, pad see ew, gai yang (a grilled marinated chicken with two amazing dipping sauces). All with a good amount of vege, fresh, tasty, and different from each other. Mango sticky rice as well, and they don't overdo it on the amount of rice which is great. Coconut ice cream for one of the kids who loved it. Even I liked it - was smooth, not chunks or flakes of coconut get sometimes. And the serving was big enough that he couldn't finish it both times. They do get very busy and one night it seemed like there was only one waitress but she obviously tried her best and apologized for running around. It was obvious she wasn't slacking so we didn't mind especially given such yummy food! read more

This is the BEST. FOOD. IN. in COLONIAL BEACH. There have been several new-ish restaurants that have opened jn the area, and because this area is pretty lacking as far as quality and taste, my husband and I are always excited/hopeful when a New restaurant opens. We've been pretty disappointed with almost all of the restaurants we've encountered here, but Orchid Thai is truly an exception. The crispy Pakow with shrimp had juicy, large shrimp fried to perfection (ironically have not had any great seafood experience in this town), basil Thai chicken was flavorful and spicy, the Tom kha soup and noodle dishes have been wonderful. Also- the whole fried snapper is excellent. We've been here 3 times and hope to keep frequenting this place and pray this restaurant stays open!! read more
