You're in Key West so you might as well do all the Key West-y things you can. Like taking a photo with the huge photo of Jimmy Buffet on the wall. And singing along to the corny music. And "lei"-ing everyone outside the restaurant. And attempting to kidnap one of Hemingway's 6-toed cats (just kidding, please don't do that). Random rant aside, I enjoyed the place for the atmosphere. The food was wonderful, especially the Jambalaya and the Key Lime pie. The only thing rivaling the food and drinks is the magnificent staff. The hostess who seated us was wonderful. The server we had was Ronneh. She was extremely knowledgeable about all the menu items we asked about, very attentive and made our meal a very memorable experience. Whenever I'm in Key West, Margaritaville is one place I will always look forward to going back to. Next time I want to try the nachos, they're as tall as a mountain, no kidding!! The decor is a parrot-heads delight with a homey atmosphere that allows for a very relaxed meal. No rushing, just a very cool laid back environment. read more

First off this is a very tiny Margaritaville. Very short staffed as there was only one bartender and he could not make a decent Margarita. The food was good but took a long time to get from the kitchen as I assume they were short staffed in the kitchen too. The cheeseburger in paradise was delicious. It would have been nice to hear some Jimmy Buffet songs but they weren't playing any when we were there. If you are not in a rush to eat it may be worth the visit. Just don't expect it to be a typical Margaritaville. read more

It was a really HOT day. The wife and I have been walking down Duval St. for awhile and ready to pass out from the heat. No where else nearby offered AC with food, most places have outside seating, which is great and what we preferred normally, except we were about to pass out from heat. We had to stop in and get a drink so we can cool down. Got some peel and eat shrimp to go with the drinks. It's not as great as the one in Vegas. I really wasn't thinking I'd go here at all, but I just wanted a salad and it was 10:59AM on a Sunday, so I couldn't drink anywhere and the brunch places were packed. Also our shuttle dropped us off and picked us up and we were gonna hop on the shuttle after lunch, so it was the most convenient. The food was meh, like the rating says. The calamari was really quite tasty but I felt like we got gypped because half of the plate was full of disgusting sweet potato chips. The salad I got was covered in dressing. I like dressing a lot, but it shouldn't be drowning in it. It's not a horrible place, just nothing special at all. Oh and the bathroom is up some stairs and like a block away. I guess that if you're in Key West, then you have to stop at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville! After years of listening to him sing about this place, I felt compelled to stop in. Overall, the experience is pretty good, if not a little touristy. The setting is pretty laid back, and everyone seems to be in a permanent relaxed state. The food itself is average and some of the people were rather wasted. Overall, it was a good experience, but nothing worth writing home about. I just felt that I had to come in hopes of seeing a wasted Jimmy Buffet searching for his lost shaker of salt. read more

Since my hubbie and I have visited Key West once a year for the past 8 years, we are definitely NOT into the touristy places and more into where the locals are hangin. Margaritaville is the exception!! The wait is never very long, the staff is always friendly, and the food is the thing that brings us back. If you like a good ole fashioned burger, the Cheeseburger in Paradise will never disappoint. If you want to split something, their Nachos could be split by 4 adults! My hubbie and his buddies eat a lot, but trust me, the nachos are HUGE and so yummy. read more

Live music was great on the Friday of 4th of July weekend. My girlfriend and I walked the entire Duval street until we finally settled into the original Margaritaville. She had conch fritters, some sort of fancy shrimp platter and I had the jerk bbq wings. The wings were perfectly cooked and HUGE. The jerk bbq sauce was delicious, and the beer selection ample. I had the Founders IPA, a very balanced IPA with great flavor and only 4.7% alcohol level. We really enjoyed ourselves and got to experience a little bit of Key West tradition. The property is really pretty, and the service is wonderful. From the valet, check-in, housekeeping and the restaurant, wow! We had breakfast and enjoyed the eggs benedict, two days in a row. I called for extra towels, in 3 minutes, someone was at my door. You made staying there a real treat! We will be back! read more

Yeah it was a tourist trap. Yeah it was crowded. But all specialty drinks were under $10, the margarita was only $7 or $8 and it was a really good margarita on a hot day. I had been there in my pre-yelp days, and only remember ordering a drink I couldn't drink (it was too strong - never happens - I think it was the Hurricane). This last time, the star beverage was the Honey Do Margarita. It was fantastic. Came here for a "cheeseburger in paradise" and was definitely fulfilled. Best turkey burger I have had. Ever. Had no problem getting a seat at 9 pm on a busy night. Actually liked this place a lot more tthan I expected! The bar tender (unsure of his name - guy had an accent and a small beard). He made this bar twice as good as it was with his excellent recommendations of drinks and making of the drinks! Liked sitting at the bar chatting to the people at the bar and the bar tenders. Had the nachos, which I was told were amazing (dont like nachoes myself) Drinks were excellent but look at the full menu because there are a lot and all very very tasty. You always seem to get 15% off after your first bill for the next 7 days (after that day of first purchase) so go there first for a quick drink then return for mutiple through the week. While the food was pricey, they give you a good portion. I think we got there at an off time because it was oddly empty for a Friday evening in peak tourist season. Putting all of my personal biases aside with being a MASSIVE Jimmy Buffett fan, I was really impressed with our overall dining experience. Having walked several miles up and down Duval with 4 kids, my family was super happy to drop anchor at Margaritaville Key West. We all ordered the Cheeseburger in Paradise (if you're going to do it you've got to do it right) and we were super impressed with the quality and taste of the food. The service was brilliant and my daughters all had a really great time! I actually thought that the whole environment was amazing. The music, the big screen live broadcasts of Jimmy himself.... Fantastic stuff!! We did spend a wee too much in the gift shop, but hey, this was more of a pilgrimage and they do make it easy with having such cool stuff for sale. So a massively good experience was had by all and we'll definitely be back. Keep up the good work everyone! read more

The decor's...loud. "Wacky chain restaurant via Key West" is the best way to describe it. I mean, it's a themed restaurant, with the theme supplied in some part by a corporate entity. It's got personality, but it feels like Stepford personality, if you get my meaning. The food is...serviceable. It's certainly not bad food, by any means - it's fine. That said, you're gonna be in Key West, man! It's a tropical tourist mecca! Unless you're a Parrothead, there are scores (if not hundreds) of restaurants on the island where the food's better and more reasonably priced. I did back on 5/6/19 and so far no one has gotten back to me. I am super disappointed with the chain and specifically the location. So, yes, full disclosure: our family are Jimmy Buffett fans, and enjoy a chance to drop in on a Margaritaville restaurant when we can. As this was our first visit to Key West, of course we were going to check out the original location! We arrived in Key West early evening, so since we didn't yet know the ins and outs of the town, we decided to go with what we knew and hit Margaritaville for our first dinner in the area. We arrived at around 8:30 on July 3rd...basically the night before a holiday...not a busy time on Duval Street at all, right? :) Expecting a crazy wait, the four of us were seated within 10 minutes. I don't remember our waiter's name, unfortunately, but he looked like he was in his early 20's and I got the impression he was fairly new on the job. The biggest problem when you can only hit a restaurant once or twice a year on vacation is that you tend to stick with what you know. Our family got their usual Cheeseburgers in Paradise, but having already had a big burger at lunch, I broke ranks and got the Jerk Chicken for the first time. It was nice and tasty and rewarded my impulse to have something different. I also had a very awesome "Fins 2 the Left" blue margarita. I've always enjoyed the drinks at Margaritavilles and this was no exception. I had no qualms about having my kids in here for dinner at the hour we came in. I also noticed a few other kids with their families as well. You certainly can't say that about a lot of other places on Duval Street! Ultimately, if you're a fan of Margaritaville Cafes and Restaurants, this one won't disappoint. You know what you're getting: nice atmosphere, good food but a little bit on the pricey side for what you're getting, and great drinks. read more

We had to do this because it's what a Parrothead should do in KW - especially for the first time. We had been in other Margaritaville locations in Orlando and Glendale so we expected a standard chain vibe. Turned out to be better than that! The food was good and fresh (Lava Lava Shrimp very good) and Cuban sandwich was average - it lacked any appreciable amount of meat. Onion rings were excellent. Derek was the barkeep and was extremely busy by himself, so drinks were perpetually slow to receive. The manager on duty jumped in once, but otherwise let him go it alone. I think the bar design was nearly impossible to work for one person and no bar back because he was constant all running back and forth and couldn't operate from a single station. The place had a sour mop smell and the bathrooms were a definite turn-off. Yep, we can say we've been to the original location but that's all that's fit to report. read more

As a major Parrothead I was very excited for my first trip to the "Orginal" Margaritaviile. Lots of character, definitely the smallest location being the first. Staff are friendly and provide a good time with the same menu standard across the chain. You can never go wrong with the Cheeseburger, of course, but there are a lot of great other options. Shrimp, ahi, nachos, are all quite nice. The fajitas are not that great, but that's okay. It's really the experience you are there for in the first place. We were waiting for friends to arrive so we sat at the bar to begin with. The bartender was very unfriendly to us and also to the wait staff. We left the bar because of her cranky disposition. The food and the service was okay but not fantastic. I've been to this restaurant a few times over the years and it definitely seems to be ailing a bit.
