We went to Blue Heaven after hearing about indulgent brunch and some of the best key lime pie in Key West. One out of two was correct. The brunch was delicious. Both Husband and I ordered the special omelette, with lobster, bacon, and tomato. The dish was rich and delicious, with an entire lobster tail and plenty of bacon. To top it off, the omelette was accompanied by a slice of banana bread. We were not impressed by the key lime pie. Although the pie looks impressive, topped by a huge mound of meringue, it tasted a bit stale. Its consistency was heavy, and the meringue flavorless. Don't let the pie, however, stop you from going to Blue Heaven. The brunch is great service is friendly, and you can't beat the atmosphere, eating outdoors with the chickens and artwork. A friend who has a home in Key West recommended this place. Said it was a must visit spot. Once I visited, she was very correct. She warned me that either you get there early or there may be a bit of a wait. We arrived around 9am, and there was about a 30 min wait. We had a table for 4, if you were waiting for a table of 2, the wait would be longer. The nice thing is there is a little bar/coffee shop across the street with seating. You can order while you are waiting for your table. The place does only take cash though just a small note. You are seated outdoors and surrounded around trees. It is so beautiful and so Key West. The food was amazing. They are known for their lobster breakfast items. I had Lobster and Grit. In my mind I was thinking little diced up lobster but no, it is a full lobster on top of grits and it was amazing. Brunch pricing is reasonable. Read online that this was a must visit in key west and have to agree. The set up is nothing fancy - plastic chairs under umbrellas. It is pleasant ambiance still with lots of trees and shade (and chickens haha). Service was a bit slow but our server was doing it all - making drinks and had a huge section to tend to. Fantastic restaurant. I went for the first time ~10 years ago, and today's visit was just as good. The winning dish at the table was the special of the day- surf n turf eggs benedict (lobster and steak), but everything was delicious. The key lime pie is definitely a good one, but beware, the entire top ~4 inches of the pie is just a merengue cream. I don't particularly care for cream so i slice this part of and enjoy a much thinner layer of key lime pie. This is a good balance of sweet and tart, but I wouldnt say it is the best I've ever had. Pro tip: expect a wait of anywhere between 45 mins on a monday at noon, to 2.5 hrs on a Sunday for brunch. Plan accordingly. They have a shop across the street where you can order drinks while you wait, but this also gets pretty packed. read more

I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation and I'm glad I was able to try it prior to leaving Key West. After about an hour wait we sat at the bar. Blue Heaven is quickly becoming a regular dining establishment for us when in Key West. The service is always amazing, the atmosphere is quintessentially Key West, and the food is outstanding. There is nothing like dining under the tropical backyard atmosphere with chickens and roosters "roosting" overhead. The live music is always great without being too loud or overwhelming. I ordered the yellowtail snapper which was melt in your mouth delicious. It was hands down the best meal I had all week. We also had the bbq shrimp as an appetizer and it was fantastic. The bbq sauce was so unique and just simply fantastic. They have it as an entree so definitely consider that as an option. Of course no meal here is complete without their Key Lime pie for dessert. We had a very memorable time in Key West, which included visiting Blue Heaven. This place is a classic loved by many, it had some amazing eclectic decor (fitting for the location) and some good food. Service was casual and friendly, the seating was in an outdoor area with the occasional mother hen + chicks passing beneath our table and seats. There was some live music too, great vibe for a casual brunch. The food was good! Firstly my bf got this lobster benny which was phenomenal. The lobster was so fresh and juicy, one of the best lobster bennies i've tried. My breakfast sandwich was not the best, it was pretty dry and i didn't end up finishing it. I would skip this one. We stopped in again at another point in the day to try the famous key lime pie - this is a must if you are visiting Key West. Absolutely delicious, homemade in the best possible way. This place is known for there key lime pie. Of course you know we had to try it, I mean look at it! Okay before I get into the pie let me tell you about the place. Everything about this restaurant embodies the Key West spirit. There is a live band playing, a ton of outdoor seating, and also chickens running around everywhere. Don't worry, if you are like me and have a little fear of birds the chickens really could care less about you. They are just looking for food. As far as the pie, I thought it was amazing! As you can see in my pictures it's as literally as big as your head. It is so light and airy and not a traditional take on key lime pie. I would say if you are visiting this is a must go to spot! It's about $13 if I remember correctly for the pie and we split it. We also got cocktails and they were great! A generous pour unlike a lot of places in Key West. We came here on a Thursday morning and it was busy. We had a party of 10 and a wait of 30 minutes. They provided a comfortable waiting area across the street. We chose to sit outside with the roaming roosters. The one unfortunate thing was they couldn't give us checks per couple only one check per table. Our waitress name was Dee Dee and I have to say she was amazing. This place is very unique, laid-back and enjoyable. I ordered their pancakes and they were loaded with my choice of bananas and pecans. Unfortunately they were not fluffy, they were very thin. I wouldn't order them again. Breakfast at Blue Heaven feels like stepping into a tropical daydream run by chickens. I ate under the trees while roosters strutted around like tiny divas, and honestly, they are the stars here. My banana pancake and fruit was totally delicious :) That said, it gets busy. My server was super sweet but clearly swamped, so no check-ins or refills ever made it to my table and the food arrived a little lukewarm. We went to Blue Heaven for brunch on a weekday last week with our family and overall had a really fun experience! The atmosphere is lively and quirky in the best way and feels very "Key West," which makes it a memorable stop. The food was all delicious, and the blueberry pancakes were the standout for me. Fluffy and with fresh blueberries they were definitely worth ordering. That said, it did feel a little overpriced for brunch food- if I'm remembering correctly a fruit cup for the kids was $9 which just seems crazy to me. We knew there would be a wait due to the über competitive late breakfast / brunch scene on a Sunday in Key West. We walked over to the restaurant from our B&B and it was already humid and quickly also approaching hot outside. After sitting outside for dinner on the porch at 9-1-5 the prior evening, I was loathe to sit outside again. We opted for a more limited seating indoor table so our wait was a little longer. No big deal. We perused a couple of nearby more upscale gift shops. We returned at the appointed time and were soon thereafter walked around the corner, inside a building and seated at a nice window two top table. The server was prompt, kind, knowledgeable and mostly attentive. There was either an owner or manager who would cackle loudly in the somewhat nearby kitchen alcove from time to time but it's the Keys and weird, I guess. Early drinkers, or perhaps cleaner drunks, came and went to and from the bar. The coffees and waters were good and refilled. We ordered an omelette, Key West Pink Shrimp Benedict and side of large cheese grits. All were good. The shrimp was noticeably fresh; not frozen.
