This is my first ever Yelp review, but I felt the need after this experience - not to hurt this business, but to hopefully open their eyes to the improvements that could be made. My best friend treated me to a pedicure for a "self-care" day. We were happy because we didn't have an appointment and they were able to get us right in. I believe it was Elaine who helped us. My first impression was that the cleanliness was subpar. The foot tubs didn't appear washed, and the shop was dusty and unorganized. Everything seemed to have a layer of scum, like nothing has been wiped down in quite some time. I'm not a salon girlie, but the quality of work was underwhelming. She didn't seem to take any pride in the work she was doing and was more interested in making conversation than doing the job. The polish was painted onto every cuticle and half of my friend's big toe was unpainted. Then after waiting for my toes to dry for over an hour (plus several hours wearing sandals at home) my polish smudged. Also, she clipped our toenails but didn't file them - I had an uncut nail that snagged and ripped off the nail and polish. Elaine told us at the beginning that they didn't take card, but they have an ATM in the building. After our pedicures were complete, she said their building's ATM has been acting up so we might have to walk across and use David's Pizza's ATM. Turned out that the ATM in the building didn't work, so my friend had to walk back to the salon to get her coat and walk across the street just to pay for the poor-quality pedicures. With today's technology, it seems like they should make it more convenient for customers to pay. I'm a small business supporter, but the lack of quality control is concerning. The location of this salon is beautiful and historic and could be so so sooo much better. read more

I read the reviews on Yelp and saw some photos and decided the 4 Star rating was Enough to give this a try even though I had some doubts going in. I was already going to be in the building at Kashmir receiving treatments and had dinner reservations so the location and time was perfect. First let me start by saying it is always difficult to give less than favorable reviews however as I explained to the owner I am always honest services Cannon crew not to be mean or critical. The owner provided my services and I have to say she's very kind friendly and attentive . Here is where I have a problem. You can't post Photos but I will post them on Yelp I noticed on one of the other reviews a client complained about the fact that her gel polish is peeling off in just a couple of days one of the reasons why you paid the extra money for Gel is that it is past time and that it last for weeks much longer than regular polish. I felt the polish was put on way to heavy and you can see at the cuticle it will peel back shortly. She chooses not to do any kind of cuticle cutting and just uses the cream to push the cuticles back this is not my personal preference as I feel like it doesn't leave the nails looking finished. If I can post photos you will be able to see white polish you can see that the toenails were not filed and there was no buffing. The edges of her nails are jagged and polish around the skin was not cleaned. On two of my toes you can clearly see where the polish did not cover the entire nail. When she does her service she does all the polishing upfront then she puts your feet back in the water it wasn't very relaxing because the soak in the water wasn't that long massage wasn't that long and truthfully I would have to agree with other comments feeling like the service was a little bit rushed. My toes were being done for a wedding and honestly I feel like I need to go and have them redone for a more finished look like I'm use to. For no extra scrub foot mask or Paraffin $45 dollars is very high for a basic pedicure. Also she does not except cards and suggest that you go to an ATM machine I would have liked to have known this up front as I usually never carry cash and just so happen to have some on me today. Like I said she is very very nice love the location but I think the skills need a little more attention to detail for the avid beauty goer. read more

Elaine as a person is great!! But I probably won't go back to get my nails done. Her little shop is great and relaxing. Amazing view. But the quality of my nails is not what I expected for the higher end price. I got acrylic nails and a pedicure. My acrylic nails are clouded and the white and the pink mixed or something. Some of my nails weren't even all the way covered. I also was trying to pick off all the super glue that was on my skin under and around the nails for about a day or two. My pedicure looks fine, but it was definitely rushed and when you look at the polish, it's not covering my whole nails. When I get a pedicure I like that they clean up the skin around the nails and the cuticles, but that wasn't really done here. And my mom got gel nails and a pedicure. The first day it was curling up and starting to come up. She says that her gel has a warranty but it's almost not worth it to go back and have it not done well again. She only has one pedicure chair so don't go with a friend. And at the end we wrote a check out directly to her which was a little odd to me. The reason I give it two starts is not because I didn't like her, the building, or the shop, it's simply because when I make a review it's about what the shop actually does for you. It was a great one time experience but I think I'll look some where else for next time. :) read more

We liked the nail tech... she was very nice! But... the same day we had our nails done... they started to peel off. Two of us had gel polish... the other person was acrylics. Some of the gel nails have been coming off after just one day... and others still peeling. The acrylic nails have been the most painful experience ever at a salon. The tech cut my cuticles and skin around my nails on 8 of my 10 fingers. They are still aching after 3 days. The top coat on the acrylics started peeling off, at dinner, the day of getting them done... and are still peeling off. The acrylics are much thicker than I've ever experienced. As for the pedicures... the nail polish covers all of our cuticles also... not good. Sadly, even if offered a redo... we would decline. read more

Sweet lady but was not "sober" when doing our pedicures. We had asked for a double pedicure with foot massage. We had one lady (Elaine) trying to do both our feet, dropping her clippers in the trash, missing the buffing of on of my feet and rubbing lotion on my legs twice and zero on my friends. The half way clipped nail on my friends foot was left as she started to polish. The polish was sloppy and it was pretty clear, as sweet as she is, that she was on something or drunk or both. The massage chair my friend was in was malfunctioning and she just giggled saying oh it has a mind of its own. Let me start out by saying that this woman is the NICEST person ever! Such a warm and inviting place! However, I was looking for a younger style gel/shellack manicure. Very few choices regarding color. Ended up being sloppy and thick. Not impressed with my manicure at all, but definitely a great destination for simpler design. read more

I do not know who this Allison H person is who wrote the negative review, but I can tell you that I always get complimented on my nails all the time.Elaine always puts in 100 and 10 percent of her creative work as a nail artist. she treats people like a close friend, even if it's she's meeting them for the very first time. And best of all is that she does not wear a mask to do your artificial nails. Just remember that, the next time you go to one of those cheap $25 places where they DO wear masks when doing you artifical nails, nor do they speak english or even socialize with you. After the holidays I needed to have my gel nails removed. I called and Elaine was able to get me in the very next day. Her space inside the Flour Mill is cute and comfortable. She was very gentle in removing the gel and I would definitely return if I needed a manicure! read more

Honestly was a terrible experience. I went with my friend who said that Elaine called her 3 different times trying to get her to reschedule. We get there and we are the only ones in the shop. She answered her phone and put it on speaker 3 times and we could obviously tell that she was in a hurry to get to her dinner party. She told us she didn't think that she could do any of the VERY simple nail art that we asked for. Very limited colors. Nails turned out awful, no clean up done on nails after, our cuticles were bleeding and we had large cuts on our fingers, along with our fingers COVERED in glue and paint. She started vaccuming while we were waiting to dry our nails, didn't wait until we left. The whole thing was very messy, unprofessional, and WAY overpriced. A flat rate of $50 which we both got one color that wasn't gel and it cost us $60? Doesn't make sense. I could've gotten better for half the price. She also only took cash and didn't have a cash register, which was really sketchy. read more

Loved the atmosphere. Called a few days in advance to schedule pedicures for three people. When we got there, we had to wait a bit. -no real concern. I get it, things happen. When it was our turn we walked around the curtain to find there was only one chair for a pedicure! I thought that was insane! How do you schedule three people for the same time but only have one chair? We ended up rotating and just getting a manicure to kill time even if it wasn't what we initially wanted. The ladies were great and very personable! It just isn't a place for more than one job at a time, in case you were wanting a successful girls day. I started getting my nails done with Elaine after I'd met her and got a taste of her amazing personality while I was working in the flower mill. She was willing to schedule me whenever was best fitting for me instead of herself, and still does to this day. She puts everyone's needs first, even if that means working 15 hour days! She's amazing at what she does, and it shows by her wide range of clientele. Thankfully she has two warm hearted women working with her in her quaint shop along the Spokane river with a breath taking view. It's nice to know walks ins are also welcome, with out ever feeling rushed or turned away! I'm always satisfied with the outcome of my nails and toes! I started going to this shop back in 2007, when Marguerite owned it. I always went to Elaine. I wanted nails for prom, and having gone to those nail sweat shops before and going through painful experiences, I was a little timid but the boutique sounded promising. As soon as I walked in, it felt like a family get-together! Everyone was smiling, all the nail artists and clients were talking to one another, and you were offered a drink. That same atmosphere welcomes you every time, 8 years later. It honestly feels like 'home'. I've tried other places in Spokane and Spokane Valley but I cannot see myself anywhere else. Elaine does classy nails, and she offers plenty of fun, exciting and low-key polish colors... REAL polish. They validate parking so no need to worry about meters. It's always a good idea to book in advance because hey, she's amazing at her craft and therefore is a busy woman! They have cute handbags for sale, too! Very bad experience. The lady seemed scattered and unprofessional. Said they did pedicures with gel polish however, she acted like she never really had. Didn't know where to plug the light in, was unable to remove previous gel polish. Poor attempt to soak it off then resorted to her drill which malfunctioned. When choosing a polish color, was told she didn't have the one I wanted. Upon deciding to leave due to all of this I was told I would be charged for the half-ass job of polish removal. Upon telling her to proceed, she stated that she had the right to refuse my service. Really?? Find another salon for your pedicure. read more

I have been a long time customer of Elaine's, and she is by far one of the top nail artists in Spokane. Most all of her business comes by word of mouth, so that says a lot about a business. She is professional, friendly, and knows her craft. In reviewing the post by "Allison," I have no idea what she means by "clouded," in the 10+ years she's done my nails, they have always looked perfect, and I receive compliments on my nails all the time. Elaine is a perfectionist, and very artistic, oftentimes applying beautiful and unique hand painted art to my nails, and toes!. The pedicures are relaxing and she takes her time to do a good job. Yes she has one pedicure chair, but it doesn't keep her from regularly booking group appointments where she offers snacks and beverages while she and Stephanie are doing manicures and pedicures for bridal parties or other groups. Everyone has a good time! You really feel pampered here. With regard to the comment by Allison that it was "a little odd" that she wrote a check out to Elaine, well, Elaine is the OWNER of the business! My daughter in law & I went for pedicures together today and had the good fortune to have Elaine take care of us. Elaine was delightful, professional, efficient and our pedicures turned out perfect! The salon is atmosphere is very relaxing, has spectacular views of the Spokane river and I love the vintage decor of the historic building. We all had fun shopping at the other shops in the historic flour mill building.
