It seems the office staff…read morehas developed a rather poor attitude towards patients and is engaging in questionable insurance practices. Dr. Ambus, I hope you see this and the other reviews because your staff is doing a real disservice to your dental practice. My experience: Earlier this year, I enrolled in a new dental insurance plan. The insurance website listed Dr. Ambus as an in-network dentist that accepted new patients, so I called in February to schedule an appointment. The office staff checked my insurance, verified that it was accepted, and scheduled my appointment for May 31, 2021. In late March, I called to check if an earlier appointment date was available. The office staff checked my info again and informed me May 31 was still the earliest available, so I agreed to keep that date. In mid-May, my wife also decided to make an appointment for herself. Upon calling the office, the staff informed her that her insurance plan was not accepted. My wife was confused and explained that her husband (me) had the same insurance with an appointment set for May 31. The staff then looked up my name and stated that I was not on the "patient roster" and my appointment was already cancelled. This was very surprising because no one from this office had notified me about any cancellations or insurance issues. I then got on the phone to ask for clarification, to which I received a rude response that my insurance was not accepted and it was "not their responsibility to check a patient's insurance". This explanation appears to be a blatant lie because this office staff did in fact check my insurance back in February before scheduling my May 31 appointment! They also just checked my wife's insurance on the phone before declining her. When I asked her to clarify this again, she hung up on me. I then called my insurance and discovered that this office had recently changed its insurance policy to accept only higher premium plans and reject lower plans like mine. Now, I understand that the pandemic affected every business financially last year including dental providers, and dental offices are free to change their insurance policy at any time. However, it's very poor business practice to change insurance policy and cancel a patient AFTER the dental provider has already accepted that patient's insurance AND confirmed the appointment. Moreover, I am even more disappointed by the poor communication including the lies and appointment cancellation without bothering to call me to inform me. Had my wife not called them, I would have never known about the cancellation and just showed up for my May 31 appointment, only to be told no appointment existed. Although Dr. Ambus seems to be a capable dentist, her office staff treats people poorly with disregard for truthful communication. My incident is similar to what others have experienced lately, and I would recommend staying away to avoid dealing with the terrible office staff and questionable insurance practices.

In my opinion, his honesty, integrity, and bedside manner have significantly deteriorated. About 18 months ago, I was fitted for an upper partial denture due to two broken teeth. During the preliminary impression appointment, I asked if my broken teeth needed to be extracted, and he assured me they did not. After my mould was prepared, I returned for the wax try-in. At this point, I trusted that everything was fine and eagerly awaited the final product. When I returned to collect what I believed would be the finished denture, I discovered that it was oversized and fell straight out of my mouth. Dr. Sachdev took the denture to a side room and made an on-the-spot adjustment. However, when he returned, the denture still did not fit properly and fell out again. Additionally, it appeared that he had hurriedly added two extra teeth during this correction, which resulted in a painful and poorly fitted denture that was lumpy and filled with hard clumps of dental material on the inside, where it is supposed to rest against my gums. When I expressed my concerns about the discomfort, Dr. Sachdev told me I would "adjust" to the pain. Based on my longstanding relationship with him, I trusted his word. However, after weeks of trying to "adjust," I realized that the denture was not fit for purpose. When I complained to my insurance carrier, they instructed me to give Dr. Sachdev a chance to correct my partial denture. To my shock, when I returned to his office, he claimed that the denture didn't fit because my two broken teeth needed to be extracted. He did not explain why he had not extracted those teeth in the first place! I left the denture in his hands and walked out of the office. I have no plans to return. I have since obtained permission from my insurance to seek treatment at a different dental practice. Furthermore, I understand that the Health Plan of San Mateo has demanded a refund from Dr. Sachdev. Dental patients, beware.

Today was our annual teeth cleaning, and the hygienists and staff were excellent as always. What keeps us coming back is the trust we have in Dr. Luo. He has successfully completed 3 dental implants for me over the past few years, and I'm scheduled for another one soon. The results have been fantastic. I also want to thank the reception staff and Dr. Luo's nurse/assistant. They are always so friendly and patient. When I have questions or need to tell Dr. Luo something, they listen carefully and make sure he gets the message. It really makes us feel cared for. Dr. Luo and his team truly help us maintain healthy teeth as we get older. The new office is beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable. They speak English, Chinese, and Spanish, which we appreciate. If you're looking for a skilled, caring dentist in Redwood City, especially for implants or senior dental care, Dr. Luo is the best. Dr. Luo and his team have always treated me with the utmost respect and courtesy, and I really appreciate how accommodating they are when I call in for last-minute appointments - they always do their best to fit me in as soon as possible. During visits, they offer helpful advice and feedback whenever I ask, and I've always felt well-informed and cared for. I also enjoy the charm of the office; the little touches in the waiting room and the ample seating make it feel welcoming. While it can get pretty busy on weekends, my needs have always been met without issue. Parking's not a hassle either as there's metered parking conveniently located right outside the office. Dr. Luo is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and kind. I have a lot of respect for him and his team, and I'll continue to return for all my dental care.

The reception communicates with the staff in the back to let them know when a patient arrives. I seldom wait more than 2 or 3 minutes. There are no loud conversations between staff or with patients. I appreciate that they explain what they are doing or going to do which alleviates anxiety and confusion. Co-pays are completed courteously and quietly. Any questions are handled quickly and professionally.

There are so many dentists- with poor government oversight unlike physicians- the competition is ferocious. Finding a skilled and honest dentist isn't easy. Most of the fancy dental offices, and many are skilled, yet their primary objective is to bill you for extras you don't need: X-rays, etc. and will do unnecessary work at your expense causing both pain and wallet! This little office has heart, honesty and all the skills you needed without suggesting procedures you don't. I feel lucky to have found them. Hopefully time and competition won't corrupt their current integrity.

I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about but when I came here last weekend, the whole staff, including Dr. Huang, was really great. The front desk is nice, the lady who cleaned my teeth and created my dental plan was so patient and gentle, and Dr. Huang answered all of my questions very professionally. I've been to other offices where it feels like they're pushing you into doing procedures that aren't necessary and you kind of feel as if you're just a wad of cash to them, but I did not feel like that at all at Dr. Huang's office. They made me feel relaxed and did not go overboard on how many fillings, etc. I needed. I really enjoyed my visit and am looking forward to getting work done here.

This was my first visit here and I was seen by Alex and Dr. Ash. I'm calling them out by name…read morebecause I want them to have the recognition they deserve. Alex took my X-rays and asked if I was having any issues. When I mentioned a particular tooth, she proceeded to take more X-rays, despite having already put away the equipment, and really focused on the tooth in question to make sure the doctor had a good X-ray to review. It really showed that they cared and weren't just going through the motions of their job. Then Dr. Ash saw me and looked over my teeth. He spent considerable time and care looking at the teeth that bothered me. This wasn't a quick 30 second check that you would get at many other dentists. He was also very careful to warn me when I would feel sensitivity or potential pain during his tests. He also was very thorough in walking me through the potential options I had for treatment. At no point whatsoever did I feel that they were trying to upsell me into any services, Dr. Ash was solely looking out for my wellbeing and dental health . To top it off, my terrible insurance created some issues that Dr. Ash took into his own hands to resolve. I was honestly really touched by their kindness. He really went above and beyond here. I feel that after a decade in the Bay Area I had finally found an office, dental assistant, and dentist that I want to come back to. Some side notes: Front office staff were very pleasant, I just didn't get a chance to catch their names. The wait before I was seen was minimal, I came a few minutes before my appointment and was seen within a few minutes. There was virtually no downtime once I was seen, unlike other offices I've been to where you end up sitting in a chair alone for a while. 10/10 experience, the people that work here deserve their recognition
