AVOID SAN BRUNO SMILE. I was a patient here for about 5 years, and the last couple of years it has seriously gone downhill. They told me I needed SEVEN fillings. I went to another dentist for a second opinion - I actually needed ONE. Almost every visit, they also kept pushing me to have my wisdom teeth removed, even though I was never given a convincing reason why it was necessary. They were adding a $119 charge for desensitizer for each teeth, even though my insurance told me I was not supposed to be charged for it. When I questioned the charge, the woman at the front desk became aggressive. The whole place feels like a conveyor belt now - packed with people, everyone rushing, and barely any time to explain anything or answer questions. The only genuinely positive part of this dentistry was Dr. Vu, who was always great, although I'm not sure if he's still there. Also, they don't have an online system where you can track your treatment, billing, etc. and if you want to get your records/ x-rays they not very helpful getting them . Miriam and Beatriz at the front desk helped everything run smoothly, from check-in to scheduling my upcoming visit. They are both so warm, welcoming, and friendly. Dr. Patel was amazing. He has such a calm and reassuring presence, which helped put me at ease and made the treatment go much better than I expected. His professionalism, patience, and gentle approach made all the difference. Tatiana his dental assistant did a great job facilitating the treatment process. Scheduling issues where I have been rescheduled but, never contacted first. A faulty crown placed and after seeing 2 different dentists and the faulty crown replaced, I am now back again and the doctor is behind schedule so far that I need to be rescheduled once again. So there I stood for 7 minutes in the cramped reception area (not handicap compliant as one reviewer wrote) & was 2nd in line to be helped as there was someone ahead of me when I walked in, I have enough common courtesy to acknowledge that. Arrived 5 min before my 3 pm appt and there was 2 people checking out and 2 others checking in in addition to me. They're a busy practice. Luckily, I was able to sit on one out of two chairs. I parked a 2 min walk away in the residential area. Didn't realize there was a tiny parking lot next door. Fits 4 cars. They do have signs requesting people to wear a mask, but it isn't enforced on the patients while waiting. The employees do wear them. I got checked in at 2:57 and was notified that it would be a few minutes. 2 people that checked in after me, got called in so that was vexing since I didn't get seen until 3:27. I assume it's because there are multiple dentists here. Joaquim took my x-rays and polished my teeth. He was a pleasure to chat with. Dr.Junaedy reviewed my X-Rays, examined my teeth, checked my gums, removed my plaque and tartar, and cleaned my teeth. I didn't get a fluoride treatment...She was professional, efficient, and finished at 4:22 PM. They don't remind you when to reschedule your general cleaning so make sure you do so right after your appointment. I was on the list of people to call if someone cancels their appointment but never got called during the 3 months of waiting. I appreciate how the receptionist offered to send my filling estimate ($119 with DeltaCare USA DHMO) via email as she acknowledged how long I've been at the practice, but since I wasn't in a rush I just waited 5 minutes for her to prepare it. Do not come here if you have Medi-Cal insurance --The dental cleaning was not done properly; it was rushed and sloppy and left toothpaste all over my cheek. The also didn't use all the tools I normally see used for a cleaning --Dentist briefly came in at the end to tell me I had a cavity on my upper right side which I thought was strange because in the past 8 years I have not gotten one cavity and I've been seen by new dentists each year. He also didn't show me the cavity with a mirror, he vaguely pointed in the area and on the x-ray which I thought was odd. When I've gone to other dentists in the past two years, they told me I had early stages of cavity on two bottom teeth but I was never warned about the potential of a cavity on my upper side......came on yelp to find someone else with Medical had complained about false cavity fillings so they can milk your money......cancelled my appt immediately -The front desk lady is rude. After I was told about cavity / wisdom teeth consult, I proceeded to politely ask her questions and she responded rudely that she didn't know and tried to rush me out the door after my appointments were booked. Came in to get a cavity filling but service was decline because there wasn't an option to refuse the injection for numbing on the gum. Tried to speak about the procedure before the service but the dentist worker seems like she could not wait and immediately put the numbing gel during the conversation, and then continued on the conversation to where it ended up not doing the procedure due to the refusal of the numbing injection. Also somehow one of my appointments seems to not be scheduled even though I had an appointment card for verification. I would had been notified of the changed appointment if so. The past appointment was a filling procedure but wasn't sure why the filling given had a different texture and feel compared to the past fillings given from other dentistry location. read more

Ensuring I'm well taken care of, getting all my necessary procedures done and appointments scheduled. Had an excellent experience visiting for a tooth extraction procedure. Dr. Clor did an excellent job easing me into the process. I was anxious finding out I needed two teeth pulled out during that procedure, because my tooth infection which initially began in one tooth had spread to the next tooth. Dr Campbell helped the process feel less painful than I had anticipated. He performed two extractions in less than 5 minutes. Made it seem effortless! read more

I had one appointment here and I'm glad that it stayed that way. My mom had this dentist underneath her insurance and every time we came here even when we came 25 to 30 minutes early, We still had a long wait. My mom started coming here before I did, and she always complained about them, losing her appointments or them, stating that they never had her book for an appointment at all when she had it in her records. Living in the bay area all of us know that our time is money and that taking off time for work to go to an appointment that you scheduled and then not being serviced is not only disappointing, but you lose money at the end of the day that you need to survive and this is something that they are not considering. when I went, they said that I needed multiple root canals for my teeth due to some complications I had had with my dental hygiene for the past couple of years. I'm glad I told my mother what they said because she advised me to get a second opinion. Due to her insurance we weren't able to do it right away but when I did get that second opinion, they said that I didn't need a root canal at all that the dentist I went to wasn't telling me the truth. When I got my second opinion, they also informed me that the previous dentist did not notify me of cavities that have been filled that needed to be refilled or weren't done properly. If you have Medi-Cal they will 100% want to perform unnecessary procedures to make back enough money. Five new cavities in a year? How convenient for them when they know you'll say yes because it's free to you. I was definitely naiive on the first visit. The following visit went too far even by unscrupulous dentist standards, though. Expect a well-rehearsed bit pressuring you into a root canal you don't need. A minor cavity that isn't identifiable on an xray "unexpectedly" leads to drilling the who tooth out. They'll then be very eager to show you a photo of the big scary hole in your tooth to quickly pressure you to agree to a root canal and crown. "Does this symptomless tooth 'need' a root canal right now," you might ask? "No, but you should really do it anyway, since we might need to do it in the future." Why not just do it only if and when it's necessary? To their financial chagrin I opted to just have it filled and it's doing great 3 years later. read more

THEY ARE SCAMMERS. BEWARE. I have medi-cal. was in need of multiple crowns. was told that my dental insurance only covered HALF of what the crown costs for the material they elect to use which was zirconium. and total is supposed to be $1500/crown so I had to pay 750$ OUT OF POCKET. they told me this was determined by my insurance plan, and that anywhere I went, this was gonna be the cost. come to find out through being referred to an endodontist by HPSM, (later realized that San Bruno Smiles elected not to refer me directly to this specialist because they knew this endodontist was telling customers of the scams they were pulling) that what I was being charged with WAS NOT THE COST OF THE CROWN. (the $750 I had to pay out of pocket), that a crown needed after a root canal, including ALL procedures that come with it, was ONE HUNDRED PERCENT COVERED BY MEDI-CAL. (after calling medi-cal. this was confirmed, as with all crowns needed, even if root canal is not needed) but what they charged me for, was a procedure called "crown lengthening." an unnecessary procedure that you cannot even vet if they did on you. and guess what? its one of the ONLY procedures that Medi-cal does not insure unless you went to an endodontist instead of a regular dental office. this was NEVER mentioned at all during any of my appointments at San Bruno Smiles. to reiterate, they said this to me over and over again, "youre paying half of the crown because thats what your insurance plan covers." I confronted San Bruno Smiles about what I was actually being charged with and they told me that "we already explained this to you ma'm." and what made it worst was when I asked for a receipt and it said "gingevectomy." and the receptionist had a smirk on her face as she printed it out for me. I pulled my original invoice and all it said was "crown procedure." so two different invoices, worded differently, but the first one gave me the impression that it was for the materials of the crown that was only half covered by insurance because this was what they told me MULTIPLE TIMES in person. both had my signature on it, so apparently I agreed to it without knowing I was technically being charged for a procedure that I didnt need and was never informed of. they insisted a crown lengthening procedure NEEDED to be done. so it was either pay $750 or too bad. they said THEY WILL NOT do a crown for me unless I do a crown lengthening procedure with them as well. (refused to refer me to an endo to have it all covered) and still the lady in front with the fake eyelashes and the mole on her lip, smirked at me as she said this, knowing I needed a crown done asap. im writing this because I got scammed and it might be too late for me (currently looking into options with filing claims) but I wanted to write this in case you were told this by the dental office. KNOW what it is that your insurance covers because being told what youre covered and have to pay out of pocket may not be the truth!! theyre telling you to pay HUNDREDS of dollars for out of pocket costs that are not needed, which is illegal, not to mention unethical. and when I tried to meet them halfway, asking if they were willing to refer me for a crown lengthening procedure elsewhere so that I didnt have to pay so much money, they refused. they are NOT for the people like they claim. they only want the money for themselves. and they are scamming low income people at that. SHAME ON THEM. I did more research and vetted new places, found a new dental office and guess what my bill is for the crowns with the SAME materials and procedures? ZERO DOLLARS. (also to note, didnt need any crown lengthening procedures done!!) the kicker is that almost everyone who goes to San Bruno Smiles has medi-cal. just beware of when they tell you of out-of-pocket costs. confirm this with your insurance provider, dont just pay because youre in the moment and theyre pressuring you in the setting of whats already a lot of stress. go elsewhere if they give you attitude right then and there. these people are NOT in your corner. if you've ever heard of anything along the same lines, paid the same $750 as I did, unfortunately we got scammed. wanted to edit this to say-i had already done three crowns with them at this point. so I had spent thousands at this place. I have a HMO plan that sent me to San Bruno Smile even though I was and I am very pleased with the dentist I have been seeing since 2022. I went to get a cleaning and to see Dr. Wu. He told me after taking X-rays that I had SEVEN cavities. I was very concerned because I was seeing dentist paying out of pocket every four months to get a cleaning and see the dentist. So I went back to that dentist. San Bruno Smile would not release my X-rays without paying another $50.00 dollars even though the said they would on three different occasions and my current dentist office calling twice. I decided just to pay out of pocket at my current dentist for more X-rays. My current dentist said I DIDN'T have those cavities that Dr. Wu said I had at San Bruno Smile. Not a single cavity he said I had! DO NOT TRUST San Bruno Smile Dental. I was 10 min early, 3 people came in after me and the 3rd person went before me. All of them had the same appt time as me. I was rushed in to a room and had x-rays taken within min. Then I was told to wait for the dentist, for 45 min. I got up and left. Even if I had waited, my appt was close to closing, which meant I would have been rushed through the cleaning. For some reason, they make you wait for the dentist before cleaning, it would have been done if they did it first. I have never had an exam before cleaning, every dentist wants to look at clean teeth to make an accurate examination. From former reviews, maybe he wants to see dirty teeth to put pressure on for unnecessary work. They were high pressure last time I was there too, but the cleaning was first. Highly suspicious. Lastly, I was basically harassed prior to my visit. In less than a week, I received 6 phone calls, 5 texts and 2 emails, all for confirmation. I usually don't confirm until about 2 days before, because my schedule can get a little wonky, and don't tell me you REALLY need to know for sure if I'm coming, because obviously you're overbooked anyway! This is a real sticking point for me, as I've actually had a different dentist do the same thing and the second the 48 hour mark passed, they cancelled my appt and said it was my fault!!! I dread going to the dentist and always feel very nervous. I've tried a lot of dentist places that accept medi-cal and have had a scary experience filled with pain. Today was very efficient, clean and straight to the point. I received multiple text messages double, triple checking my Heath and making sure I was ready to come in. I really appreciate the professionalism and extra precautions. I went it, and noticed how clean, and inviting the place is. All the staff members were really friendly and made me feel relaxed. Doctor Nick was very kind, straight to the point and showed he cared. I appreciate that he noticed my uneasiness and was able to get me feel more comfortable about the situation. I would like this office to stop calling me for an appointment that was canceled a month ago. I find this behavior harassment. Rosie and Kim called me same day different times pressuring me to follow through with the canceled appointment. I found myself repeating my words thinking they didn't hear or understand me. This was not the case as their intention was to coerce me to come in. Apparently, completion of the crown is big bucks for the office. Their mission statement says they focus on treatment rather than payment which is false. Their plea for me to come in was that Dr Wang wants to personally deliver the crown to me. January 23 my visit with Dr Wang was horrible and when I expressed dissatisfaction the manager present said only Dr Wang can complete it. This office did not accommodate me after learning of my discomfort. This caused me to seek out another dentist to complete the work thus delaying my treatment. I was charged $45 for the copy of my xrays and it turned out they were not complete and additional ones has to be taken. This office needs to prioritize the clients and follow through with their mission statement, not just apologizing on the reviews but actively doing something to make things better. After reading all the negative reviews about my new HMO dentist and all others from Daly City to Redwood City, I decided to ask San Bruno Smile how much they would charge without insurance. I'm so glad I did! They charged Lower than their estimate, and did fabulous work as always. These guys are the worst. I highly recommend you not choose them as your dental provider and save yourself some massive headaches. To start, their admin staff is just horrible. They won't call you back, they'll request that you reschedule your appointment multiple times, they're simply clueless, and they're incredibly rude. They will do everything to create problems for you and absolutely nothing to solve them. Second, their prices are incredulous. My insurance covers my dental care, but I requested to be fit for a retainer and the quote given me was well outside of the maximum end for what retainers should cost. Third, the dentists they recruit to their clinic are weird and rude. The last guy I had was commenting on his dental hygienists' weight in front of her, which was uncomfortable, and then went on to tell about how he knew the doctor who did Trump's veneers, which was also odd. Please learn from my mistake and avoid these guys at all costs. I will be reevaluating them as my dental care provider as soon as I finish my cleaning, as they have already rescheduled me twice, failed to follow up with me on requested dental care, and have been incredibly rude and careless in several interactions.
