Updated review: I really appreciated that Dr. Yang personally called me the same day to explain the situation. He was very understanding and took the time to clarify what happened, which reassured me. I trust that he and his team will handle things professionally moving forward. Although the past few months have been frustrating with delays and communication gaps, I believe Dr. Yang truly cares about his patients. I hope the office improves its processes to prevent similar issues and provide smoother care for other families. ---------------- We signed up for an 18-month Invisalign treatment at Yang Orthodontics for my 9-year-old daughter. The first 14 months of the treatment were smooth, and we were satisfied with the progress. However, everything started to go downhill once my daughter's adult teeth began growing in, which caused her aligners to no longer fit properly. Instead of taking new scans and creating updated aligners to match her changing teeth, the specialist simply had her continue wearing the old, ill-fitting aligners. The upper aligner in particular was constantly popping out of place, which was clearly not effective or comfortable for my daughter. At her December 2024 appointment, the specialist acknowledged the issue, confirming that the aligner wasn't fitting well. However, rather than fixing it right then and there, we were told, "Let's take care of it at your next visit," since it was near the end of the day. This felt dismissive and careless--especially knowing that the aligner wasn't doing its job and my daughter had to keep wearing it until the next appointment. By the time the next appointment came, which was supposed to be her final visit before transitioning to a retainer, we ran into the same issue again. The final set of aligners didn't fit at all because they had been made from outdated scans, obviously no longer reflecting her current teeth. At that appointment, they suggested quickly making a temporary aligner that we could pick up later the same day. That meant yet another trip back to the office for a short-term solution, which felt like another wasted effort. We assumed that from there they would take proper records and ensure the final retainer would be updated accordingly. But no. In January 2025, we went back for another appointment to get her teeth re-scanned so they could remake the retainer properly. We were told it would take about three weeks to complete. So we waited. Then, just a few days before her scheduled retainer pick-up appointment, the office called me to say the retainer wasn't ready yet and would take another three weeks--pushing us into mid-February. Every single appointment required my daughter to miss school in the morning, which added to the inconvenience. But we were patient and understanding, thinking this would be the last delay. Finally, today (March 2025), after waiting nearly two extra months, we arrived for our long-awaited 9:30 AM appointment to finally pick up the retainer. My daughter once again missed school. We checked in, only to be told that the retainer still wasn't ready and, worse yet, they didn't know why. Honestly, what kind of system is this? How does the office not know why the retainer isn't ready? Why wasn't anyone following up with the lab or manufacturer beforehand to make sure it was completed and delivered on time? Why weren't we informed before the appointment so we didn't have to waste yet another morning? At this point, we are beyond frustrated. This process has been exhausting--so many wasted trips, so much missed school, and a complete lack of communication and proper follow-up from the clinic. What started as a smooth Invisalign journey has turned into an ongoing headache, all because of poor management, lack of attention to detail, and failure to prioritize patient care. I sincerely hope Yang Orthodontics takes a hard look at their operations and fixes these issues. Families are trusting you with their children's treatment, time, and well-being. My older son received a full treatment of braces with Dr. Yang. While it was a good experience we asked about my middle son also starting treatment. We were quoted $3k more for the exact same thing. Also, the follow up treatment for my older son was subpar and they wanted to charge for follow ups soon after his braces were off. Also while my older son was getting treatment we were continually asked to write Yelp reviews in exchange for different prizes in the office. My treatment with Dr. Yang was pleasant until he unexpectedly cut it short after I had completed all installment payments. During my treatment, I did not stop my monthly payments, even while I was abroad, which resulted in me completing my payments earlier than the actual treatment schedule. However, when I returned to resume the plan, Dr. Yang breached the contract and prematurely ended my treatment six months early. I initially chose Dr. Yang based on positive reviews on Yelp and Google, believing he valued his reputation in the local community. Unfortunately, his actions have been deeply disappointing. In my email communications with him and his assistants, they once attempted to remedy the situation by using edited old scans after only examining my teeth through a webcam instead of performing an actual scan. I expressed my intention to seek help through all available means. Eventually, he refunded me. But based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend him。 ======================== To reply their response: Your attempts to manipulate the facts are exactly why I decided to speak up here. I know there are people who genuinely want to hear honest reviews from previous patients. [[However, it is difficult to make advances to Invisalign treatment while a patient is abroad. Without a current or updated scan of the patient's teeth, we have little to work with and treatment is usually put on a pause until return. ]] The whole problem started when I returned to Dr. Yang's office, where he unexpectedly canceled my scan, which had been scheduled before I went abroad and was the primary purpose of my appointment. There was nothing required from your side while I was abroad." [[We also apologize if the remote examination using a webcam felt inadequate, this is not in our normal practices. This was done only to try to accommodate you on your unexpected travels and to not delay your treatment per your request. ]] The use of a webcam as an alternative was suggested by Dr. Yang after I pointed out that he had prematurely canceled my scan and told me to return in eight weeks to remove all attachments. This approach was highly unprofessional, as before I went abroad, I had discussed my next appointment with him, and he was strongly opposed to using a webcam for a scan--which was precisely why I returned to his office for an in-person scan. I had braces as a teenager but never wore my retainers - you can guess what happened next. Beginning of 2022, I decided I wanted to straighten out my teeth before my 2023 wedding and went to Dr. Yang as recommended by my dentist. My first meeting with Silvia was so great - honestly her fun personality made getting set up so enjoyable. Dr. Yang and the rest of their team are amazing as well! This place is awesome! My daughter is a new patient for Dr. Yang, and right when we got into the new patient room, Silvia's bright attitude made us feel so welcomed. She went through with us the procedures, and even explained thoroughly what she has to do with my daughter (pictures, xray), who gets anxious when it comes to dentists due to a bad experience when she was younger. My daughter was really calm throughout the whole time which was good :) Dr. Yang was professional and after checking my daughter's teeth, explained what had to be done prior to her getting braces. when I brought up a concern regarding something in my daughter's gum (a black spot), he went back to check on it and explained what it was, which was a leftover root from her baby tooth that didn't fully come out (so it was pretty much stuck). He said that Silvia will put a note for the oral surgeon to also look at it. After everything, my daughter got a couple goodies and she was proud of herself that she did well with the appointment! Although I moved several times during this time (once out of state) and even paused my treatment at one point, the people at Yang Orthodontics remained flexible, supportive, and friendly throughout the entire process. Dr. Yang and his team may actually be the kindest, most competent orthodontics practice in the country (at the very least, they're the best in the Bay -- by a long shot). I was feeling so discouraged after consulting with ortho after ortho who couldn't answer [what I thought were simple] questions, didn't seem trustworthy, and were quoting outrageous estimates for Invisalign. What a relief it was to finally come across Dr. Yang and his staff... My brother and I both ended up getting Invisalign treatments here. They do an outstanding job of making the trays as inconspicuous as possible, always squeezed us in for appointments, and unlike other offices, there are no hidden fees (a permanent retainer at the end is even included in the price -- as are all visits, both during and after). Above all though, neither my brother nor I could have dreamt of a better outcome. I've always had incredibly straight teeth, until some shifting/crowding started in adulthood, but Dr. Yang was able to fix imperfections that I had never even noticed before (lowering some teeth a bit, etc.). On the other hand, this was my brother's third time in braces. His smile is now [finally!] perfection. He's been done with treatment for over a couple years now with no shifting -- the results are here to stay (as long as he wears his retainer ;)). Strangers regularly stop to compliment our teeth. (Thank you, Dr. Yang! :)) This entire practice is not only super talented and knowledgable, but they literally become like family... I've never seen anything like it. It was instantly apparent that Dr. Yang is not in medicine for the money -- he doesn't try to make a dime off of anyone -- he truly just has a calling to help people, young and old, smile with confidence. He cares about his patients on a personal level and just radiates goodness. The whole team is the exact same way. Talking to Grace, the scheduling coordinator, is like talking to an old friend, and her responses to emails/messages are lightening fast. She is incredibly caring, accommodating, and wise, and always makes appointment-booking so painless and easy. Thomas is hilarious, easy to talk to, and super attentive (and has an epic watch collection :P). He's skillful and swift. Leslie is so thorough, an advocate, and just being in her presence will put you in a joyful mood. Alicia and Arlette are dental pros and address any and all questions with kindness and ease. I have a tendency to run late (eek), yet ALL of them will happily stay AFTER hours, with smiles on their faces! True angels... And they all communicate and work really efficiently together. Mirian, the financial coordinator, is also such a doll and made sure we were taking advantage of every discount and promotion! And Silvia, the treatment coordinator, is one of the coolest, most bubbly humans I've ever met -- I'm still dying to catch one of her ice hockey tournaments. She, and I think EVERYONE on the team, knows and remembers every detail about each patient. The community they've created here is just beyond remarkable and inspiring... *** Last note for those nervous about orthodontics during the pandemic (like I was): I had a follow-up appointment yesterday, and let me just say: wow. I've been taking SIP very seriously and was nervous to leave for this appointment, but Dr. Yang's office has truly set the gold standard for Covid precautions. I was so impressed and I wish that all medical offices would take note on how it's to be done. They take social distancing very seriously -- I was never even in the same room as another patient! -- and have implemented state-of-the-art air purifiers, sneeze guards, and temperature checks before even stepping foot into the building. I'm a worrier, but even I felt safe with the comprehensive sanitation and safety measures. This review is way lengthier than I intended, but my gratitude toward Dr. Yang's practice knows no bounds.
