Able to schedule quickly, did a great job, reasonable prices, and the machine was pretty fun to watch.

Perkins Tree Service prunes trees, removes trees, and grinds stumps. I have used this business…read moretwice--once to remove my backyard neighbor's tree (yes...) and once to remove four of my trees. In 2021, my backyard neighbor had a tall, dead tree that was near our property line and was very hazardous for several years. On a Friday, I contacted Perkins Tree Service to get an estimate. The owner Tom said that he would arrive for the estimate on a Saturday afternoon. On Saturday, he did NOT show up, so I contacted him, and he changed the appointment to a Sunday morning. On Sunday, Tom gave me an estimate of $875 plus $75 for grinding the stump. He said that he would be available to do the work on Tuesday morning--a wait of only two days! On the Tuesday, four workers from Perkins spent about one hour cutting down the tree. They used ropes and a chainsaw to remove the several large branches and a grinder to remove the stump. They did not damage the nearby fences or any other structures. In 2022, for my four trees, I contacted Tom on a Friday to get an estimate, and he said that he would give an estimate on Saturday or Sunday. He actually came out on Tuesday, and he gave an estimate of $500 to remove four ornamental trees and to grind their stumps. This current job was small, so Tom said that he would not make an appointment for it but would rather fit it in whenever he could in the next 1-2 weeks. Several days later, his crew removed the four trees. They did a very good job, so that only mulch was left behind. They cleaned up debris with a rake, leaf blower, and trash can. I deducted one star from my review because Perkins stood me up twice for estimates and because in 2023, I contacted Perkins again, but they never responded. Furthermore, my next-door neighbor set up an appointment for an estimate with Perkins in 2022, and they did not show up, so he hired a different company.

TerraGreen provides design and installation for residential and commercial landscaping. Specific…read moreservices include hardscape (e.g., retaining walls and stone paths) and softscape (e.g., trees, shrubs, and flowers). The owners Bob and Judy have decades of experience, and they strive to implement sustainable practices such as using native plants, reducing stormwater runoff, and minimizing use of fertilizers. In early February, I contacted this company to inquire about possible solutions for water management in my front yard. Several days later, they emailed me to say that a rain garden could be a viable solution if utilities are not in the area, if the slope is regraded, and if the subsoil has a reasonable percolation rate. I appreciated that, unlike some of their competitors, they wanted to ensure that a rain garden would actually work in my yard. I requested that PA One Call mark my utilities. In March, Bob visited my property for a free consultation. He talked with me for several minutes about the source of the water, and then he did measurements. He said that he might want to install a stone wall on my front hill, fill it with soil and plants, and have an overflow for extreme rainfall. I thought that his ideas made good sense. Days later, Judy emailed me about scheduling a design for the rain garden. The design fee was based on the complexity of the project and was $280. Other businesses charge design fees from $0 to several hundred dollars, so I thought that this fee was reasonable. A design would involve site sketches, material selections, and plant selections. Eventually, a different company that had installed my French drains last year told me that they could make some modifications to my drains. As a result, I am having that work done now, and I plan to have plants installed later. I still wanted to write this review to share my experience with potential customers, so they know a little more about TerraGreen.
