On top of that, they refused to accept my digital driver's license, even though it's legally recognized in Illinois. They insisted it wasn't legal, but it absolutely is. I've been going here since it was Dominick's and used to love it. However, I went recently and got the worst food poisoning from their sushi. I cannot believe that I waste time shopping at mega-chain stores when a grocery store like Mariano's exist. I must change my habits. Mariano's is so beautiful, colorful, and fragrant. I never make it past the gelato station without ordering a real barista coffee, taking a seat in the cafe (which has a fireplace in winter, btw), and relaxing... like a human being. I know why I scuttle around like a bug and shop at that store that is one block away from my job - because of poor time management. Well, today I resolve to do better. I don't come to this location too often because it isn't as big as the Naperville one, but it's occasionally convenient. However, they don't have all the products I look for so that's frustrating. Also, they need to get it together at checkout. Realize that people don't want to use the self checks! There were about 5 people in the Express lane waiting to be helped by a human; meanwhile two guys were standing around by the self checks just talking -- why didn't one of them open another lane? Management needs to realize that people want the human connection and not do it all themselves (also, anytime I try to do self serve there's a problem no matter the store, so I just refuse anymore; I will wait in the line) and staff the lanes accordingly (there were plenty that could have been opened by one of the chatty guys). read more

As a follow up to my January 3 note I requested a call back from a company rep. I finally received one on Monday the 13th. I briefly recounted the story as outlined in my other note. The response of the rep was, yes, they have the position to limit items requested on the rain check to 5 items where no such declaration noted in the ad or anywhere regarding this so called "policy". In addition the fact that I was told by the mid level manager that I could have the 10 items in my cart at the sale price of the time and then being told by the manager that, no, I could only have 5 not 10 as I was just told by the mid level manager shows complete disregard to customer proper grievances, very poor PR, lack of concern to reasonable resolution of ambiguous and arbitrary so called "store policy", in short an "I don't care at all about you" policy. I'll be honest with you given the multiple other stores available around, and the many negative reviews I am seeing on this store I'm looking forward to shopping elsewhere and so should you. read more

Once again, I popped in this store for something quick. My daughter grabbed some Kefir and told her if she wanted it she had to carry it. Big mistake - I didn't double check the expiration date on it and when I got home I realized it was expired by 5 days. I usually double check expiration dates from this store because I've had this problem way too often. But since I was in a hurry I didn't bother. In that last year I've returned - Slimy deli meat - Moldy deli cheese, yes someone sliced it, bagged it, and handed it to me only to realize it was moldy the instant I got home. - Milk - Kefir - Yogurt - Produce - Juice Save yourself a headache and go anywhere else. It's so incredibly annoying when I run in for a couple things and I have to wait behind someone who has 25 things to checkout. a week ago on a Friday my wife and I went shopping as we usually do at Mariano's. Amongst the many items we shopped for we wanted Snapple diet Raspberry tea. A common drink we often buy that happen to be on sale for $4.99 and also had a digital coupon making it $3.99 for that week. With five days to go in the sale period the shelf was completely empty of this flavor. We went to the service desk to ask for 36 six packs to be ordered, we would get 5 at the $3.99 price, the limit on items at that price, and 31 six packs at the $4.99 price. The mid manager was contacted and tried to tell us that there is a limit on rain check items we can get even if we obtained rain checks before from this store with NO LIMIT on items if limits were not specified on the sale item to begin with. Instead of a rain check the customer service rep wrote the info on a piece of blank store receipt paper. The mid manager told us that she will order from the distributor and that it should be here after the holidays. We came back on 1/2/25, a Friday, our shopping day, to shop and get our rain check fulfilled. I found 10 six packs of the Snapple flavor that we wanted on the shelf. We took the ten and went to the customer service to see if our order came and if we could complete it. The mid manager we spoke to the prior week was there and said she did not order it. It appeared that she forgot. we were willing to have her order it now for next week but were told that per store policy not written anywhere and certainly not appearing on the sale ad, she once again came up with what appeared to be an arbitrary number of FIVE. I insisted I talk to the manager, he came by and very briskly and impatiently said in so many words. I am busy so you can get the five six packs today at the $4.99 per price, forget about the digital coupon from last week even if the item was not available as advertised then. Take it or leave it and take none!! Finishing again by saying that "I don't have time for this I have to get back to work". Such a non-resolution to a lack of proper stocking of items on a weekly ad and rudeness exhibited by workers in the people encounter business show's a terrible lack of training and complete lack of customer concern, not to mention a complete lack of concern for lack of promised items on the shelf or proper dealing with a situation when the items are not there!! read more

it's a nice story but you can't buy African American hair products there. I've asked a couple of times, but they won't do it. Easy enough to shop at other stores as they are not racist when it comes to hair products. it's a shame as I really enjoyed shopping there. read more

Specifically regarding the store pick-up - I ordered online to pick up groceries (first time I'd ever used this service, will never use it again), a few things - - They intentionally overcharged me for chicken breast. The package had a sticker on it that read "$9.78", someone altered the price to charge me $70+. I had to call corporate customer service to have them reverse it. - I was told the coffee that I ordered was out of stock, yet when we ran into the store to grab something else, the coffee was in stock on the shelf. - Several things were substituted with options at a higher price point, which was never communicated to me or approved. - My order ended up missing several items, yet I was charged $40 more than I originally paid online while missing 1/3 of my order. Moral of the story - don't order online and choose store pick up. It seems they use this as an opportunity to try to scam/overcharge their customers. read more

The people who work at the deli here are morons. One time, I asked for a pound of prosciutto and the woman behind the counter asks "that's a type of cheese right?" Other times, they don't put any paper between the slices and it comes out as a giant wad of meat. This last time, they shaved it so thin I can't even peel the meat off the paper. Mr. Bob Mariano has done it again...he opened another beautifully thought out Mariano's grocery store a couple weeks ago and I couldn't be any happier to live right down the street from this new location. I can honestly say that before shopping at this Mariano's, my grocery store decisions were mainly just based off of what's closest and cheapest. HOWEVER... you have not lived until you've shopped the aisles of Mariano's. It's more than just your typical pick-up-the- items-on-your-list shopping trip. It's an experience. The many options of produce are fresh and outstanding, the store is clean and well organized, prices are reasonable... the list goes on with everything you would hope for in a grocery store really. But Mariano's has gone above and beyond that. For example, you can literally enjoy a glass of wine while browsing the aisles! Dessert anyone? Just mosey on over to the gelato bar at the front of the store (the GROCERY store may I remind you) which is complete with numerous flavors and of course all the fixings. They also have a fresh juice bar with a full menu of smoothies for those looking for a tad healthier treat. Their hot bar is definitely worth mentioning! It's a great one stop shop for a delicious dinner on the go. Forget those busy nights running to the nearest fast food drive-thru - just pop on over to Mariano's Market in Aurora and you've got a well balanced meal on the fly (salad bar, burgers off the grill, sushi - you name it!). Mariano's is definitely my new go to grocery store and I'm proud to become a regular. Who knew grocery shopping could be so delightful? read more

I love the layout of the produce department. Okay, well clearly they didn't change it much from when it was Dominick's, but that's fine. I can navigate freely without being run over by little kids running willy-nilly with those tiny shopping carts. I did need assistance twice trying to find pico de gallo but they were sold out. I decided to make my own, but didn't see cilantro. Again, sold out. Kind of a bummer, seeing as how I managed to get everything else on my list. It was five days after the grand opening, so I really cannot fault them for that. I guess everyone else had pico de gallo plans, too. The parking lot is a thousand times better than the Wheaton store, but the grouping of certain items irritated me. Like sour cream- why on earth is it all the way in the very far corner of the store? Every other grocery store keeps it near the rest of the dairy products. I wasted twenty minutes trying to hunt it down. Overall, some of the pros outweighed the cons of the Wheaton store, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump ship 100% for the Aurora location. I can get to both in about the same amount of time and obviously both carry the same items. I'll have to give this location a few more tries. read more

How can you not be impressed? Mariano's has brought warmth to grocery stores that somehow seems missing when I step into a Jewel or Dominicks (no longer around) that just seem so...sterile and unfriendly. I'm not surprised to see that Mariano's is doing so well. One product that stands out is the milk---yes! Milk from here, however generic, actually tastes better here to my son who has no idea what I'm serving him in the glass at home. However that blind taste test alone brings me back to Mariano's every time. My family also swears by the fresh squeezed orange juice. I purchase a jug/bottle each and every time I am in. It's always been consistently sweet and mild tasting with no sourness or bitterness, even during the off-season months for oranges. Within a few hours of being in the refrig at home it is empty. The cost is also very low compared to some other premium fresh squeezed OJs. My other standby is the rotisserie chicken. Ohhhhh! LOVE IT! Every store/chain/grocer has its own version of it. However Mariano's in my opinion hass one of the best tasting chickens. It's just so disappointing to arrive early in the morning or late in the evening to find that the chicken isn't on the shelf---either still being "rotisserie-d" or completely sold out for the day. Regardless, although it's a bit of a hike for me to make the detour during my shopping routine, I'm so glad that Mariano's is around here in the suburbs now. read more

Pretty nice! We mainly just walked around to see what it looked like, what they have, price comparing and trying samples. Very similar layout to Dominick's, but of course they are going to utilize what's already there. Everything, obviously, was clean and new looking. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the woman working the gelato counter. She wanted to give me lots of free tastes and I took them! I enjoyed the hazelnut, peanut butter cup, cappuccino, lemon and Tiramisu. I think the Tiramisu was my least favorite, but I'm not being too down on it. It was all so good! Ask for a taste when you go. They do have some prepared foods and a salad bar. It all looked pretty good and reasonably priced, but they didn't have as much prepared things or "to go" type meals as Whole Foods or Standard Market. It reminded me of the type and amount of things that Dominick's used to have. Their meat counter looked pretty impressive and I will have to try things from here, sometime. They have grass fed and organic options, which important to me. Some of it, again, some higher and some the same. You just have to know your prices. They also have a good section of organic produce, which is the main reason I wanted to come here, scope it out and price compare. Some of it was lower, some a little higher and some the same. We tried their juice and smoothie bar. We had smoothies. Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't too hot on it. My husband's tasted like dirt and I should have told them not to put the cayenne powder in mine and it would have tasted better. In the end, I know it's good for me, so that's ok, but maybe add a strawberry in there.. needed a little sweetness. ;) I'm trying to stay away from sweets and breads, but man, did their bakery look heavenly. I'm almost certain everything here is yummy! Will have to come here on cheat days! read more

Wow. Marianos bakery did not disappoint! I had to bring a cupcake cake to my friends bridal shower and it was a hit! They made the cupcakes into a shape of a wedding dress an it looked beautiful. Not only that, but it tasted amazing. The cupcakes were white, chocolate, and red velvet. They were all moist and delectable. Even the frosting was perfect. And normally I wipe off all my frosting. :P All in all a huge success. Everyone was impressed and asked where they were from! I will definitely be going back for more!! I took away 1 star just because when I called to see if I could change the pickup time- when the woman was verifying my order everything was wrong. I'm not sure if maybe she was just reading it wrong or if it was written wrong but I'm thankful I called regardless. Who knows what it could have been like otherwise! But it was perfect! read more

In light of COVID 19, this store is woefully unprepared and downright dangerous to customers concerning not taking precautions. I bought $230 worth of groceries and only one regular check out line was open. The checker, a young girl with black glasses wore no gloves or a face mask. As she was scanning my many items, she touched her nose and face repeatedly, thus contaminating all my groceries! Tell your checkers NOT to be touching their faces when scanning customers groceries. Recently bought one of their "homemade" meatloafs from the cooked meals area and discovered that most of the loaf was very hard to chew and seemed gamey and half cooked. It felt like there were several pieces of paper cooked into it. And sure enough, I discovered some shreds of what looks like baking sheet making it impossible to eat. I used to be able to trust that they knew what they were doing but this put's a dent in my trust with their precooked food. Won't be buying a loaf from them again. read more

The product I got wasn't too bad, but I don't appreciate that my friends and I were targeted by an associate who seemed to think we were stealing. I and 2 friends had one cart and went to self check out. We decided to just go to one so we weren't taking up all the lanes and just pay separately. As soon as we approached the check out, the associate, Carolynn, butted in and asked if we scanned all the pumpkins (there were three. And we obviously had not as we just got there.) I explained that we had separate orders, then someone else got Carolynn's attention and she turned away. One friend finished paying so I stepped up and began scanning. I turned around to grab my last couple items and Carolynn was reaching into our cart and handing me my stuff. There is literally no reason why anyone should touch stuff I am paying for, espcially during a pandemic. I told her to her face that I didn't need her help. Twice. She finally backed off and continued to stare us down as we finished checking out. My friend made sure to thank her for targeting us. Please shop elsewhere where you can get more respect. read more

Cashiers that are rude a couldn't care less about you in comparison to their personal conversations. I have had numerous occasions when one cashier that prompted a call to managers. Cracks in the walls behind the "deli," their meat department is sub par, packing what they can in their small coolers, there's no gauc station or even a bar to drink through this hot mess. Instead they have a popcorn station in the middle of the produce with no attendees, not that I am even interested in popcorn. Majority of the time things aren't stocked. It's almost like they took an old jewel building, slapped Mariano's on it and called it a day. I visited this location for the first time around 8:00 p.m. last night. As I am very familiar with the stores in Wheaton, Elmhurst and Naperville, my review is projected through the lenses of having visited those stores many times. The previously mentioned stores were built from the ground up specifically for Mariano's. As many others have mentioned, this location was a converted Dominick's store. This unfortunately gives the shopping experience a very different vibe from the custom buildings. I tend to think of the Mariano's in Naperville as being modern, affordable, warm and easy to navigate without the Oak Park weirdness and pricey disposition of Whole Foods in Naperville. I think that this store could be somewhat cleaner inside. It has all the key components of a typical Mariano's store, but not the flow of the new stores. The deli counter was very busy, even at the hour that I visited. It seems like the management could have had additional help to keep the flow of customers moving. However, the staff that I encountered were fine. As for the neighborhood, it doesn't seem dangerous, but it felt a little bit sketchy. I'd certainly be more vigilant if I were to go after dark. Parking and ingress and egress to the store lot seem fairly easy and adequate. I didn't see a grill in this store. That's one of the best features in the Mariano's chain. read more

So, my better half is doing a little shopping while I order a steak sandwich. They took down their sign (?), so in case you don't know Mariano's has a grill next to the Deli. I love this steak sandwich, and I'm a regular. It's eight (8) ounces of lean rib eye steak on a sub roll complete with mushrooms, onions and green peppers. You can have it made to order. I also love the Vero Cafe. What so great about it? Quality and low prices. Shocked? I know, right? I was floored when they told me it was only 99 cents for my muffin. I had them double check. Absolutely love it. Very clean and well organized. I was able to find everything I needed today for great prices and I love that they offer so many different varieties of brands. I was able to find products at Mariano's that I didn't even know they still made (like Bawls energry drinks), as well as brand new products I have never seen before (like JIF cereal...awesome!). The staff were extremely helpful and outgoing. Nearly every aisle had an employee, so if you can't find something you need, it's not like you have to roam around the store looking for someone to help you. My only issue was that it was not as big as the Mariano's in Wheaton. I didn't see a lot of the fresh buffet styles of salads and olives and other foods that they have available like the one in Wheaton. I also didn't see a gelato bar! Even still, this is definitely my new go-to grocery store. read more

I'm sure I won't accrue a lot of fans here...but I just...don't get it. I don't get the hype. What is Mariano's? Wait for it....it's....a grocery store. Yep, folks. Literally, a grocery store. That was pretty neat...but out of season. The worst part of the store? While I sauntered towards the baked goods, I began to drool over the red velvet cupcakes, but my walk was cut short by the huge wave of fresh fish, that were just feet from the cupcakes. Cupcakes + fresh fish = no appetite. Not even for sweets. Overall, most of the prices were on par, or a bit expensive, compared to other grocery stores. Love it! Mariano's is like Whole Foods for poor people, and it's definitely going to be my grocery store of choice until something better comes along in the area. (Like, for instance, if the gods smile upon the Aurora area and decide to bless us with a Trader Joe's.) Granted, we went there on the day they opened and they were firing on all cylinders... But having heard great things about other Mariano's I doubt that their grand opening was a one-off when it comes to the quality of their foods. Spent over 20 minutes trying to check out. First was in line (only one person checking people out with a huge line). Most people seemed to be checking out from self-checkout. So I put back a produce item and began checking myself out. The chip reader wasn't working so my light was flashing forever with only two women working. Tried walking over to customer service to get more assistance. It was only two ladies trying to assist over 20 people checking out. This is big box retailers these days. It's all about profits while customer service is shit. Not those ladies faults at all. They were doing their best. Mariano's hire some fucking people!!! You just lost a customer. read more
