We came here specifically to pick up some Bell's Hopslam and discovered that it's a pretty cool independently owned grocery store. There's a limit of one 6-pack of Hopslam per person for $19. They have a nice selection of craft beer, wine and cheese. I also saw some truffle oil and sauces on the shelves. The people working here were nice and friendly. read more

Before I met a friend who's family owns this grocery store, I hadn't spent much time here. He reminded me of the beer they stock, which includes some rare and elite local IL breweries. Many crafts under those breweries are tough to find and even tougher to get to unless someone tips you to shipments. Now I find myself in here just about every time I get a text. Stopped by the other day with a couple of buddies that hadn't been in before. Suffice it to say, they were blown away by the offerings. Each of us walked out with three different 4/6-packs. Love my trips in here..most are somewhat costly, but you get what you pay for. And by the way, this is a full grocery store too. I just don't get past the beer selection. : ) Cheers. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Aurora! The small family owned store has a very neighborhood friendly feel and top quality goods. Some of the best items include: Sushi: made fresh and on site, the spread of sushi items is impressive, fairly priced, and delicious. Baked goods: everything is just, wow! Cakes, small snacks, fresh cannoli(s), pies- just about everything that I sampled over the years has been exceptional. Deli/Meats: going to try this next, but the regular line of people is a good indicator that their selection of goods is competitive. Overall, as a regular customer, Prisco's has been a standout for its goods and services. read more

I highly do not recommend this market. Each time I go in I never see anyone in the deli section wearing their mask properly and they always have attitudes with their customers. Any time I have a question about a product they get annoyed like I'm inconviencing them. I've heard MANY bad reviews from the community around the market telling me to avoid this place and now I understand why. Perhaps if they treated their customers with respect or properly clean I might come back. But hey to each their own. So if you like expired foods covered in gnats and being degraded then this is the place for you. read more

Prisco's isn't what it once was. Prices are SO HIGH! In some cases...twice as high as other grocery stores in the area. You really need to watch the dates on everything! I personally would love to see some hairnets on the deli workers! More than once I have encountered a hair after bringing the item home (baked cookies and salads they package). Do other customers realize that almost everything in a clear plastic container in the deli is NOT homemade? They bring in premade items and repackage them. Watch the deli ladies some time...and you'll see what I mean. Come on Prisco's... you're so much better than this! Fill that boring deli case with FRESHLY made salads...add some color, be unique! We can get prepackaged crap everywhere! read more

It use to be much better. In the past 5 years or so Prisco's has significantly increased their prices and decreased the quality and breadth of products except perhaps beer. I do not drink, but it seems they have dedicated an enormous amount of space to booze. I use to stop in, almost daily and get a Mexican soda and small bag of chips for lunch. Well, some sort of management change happened they jacked the prices and started stocking only haphazardly. So often I would go int and there was no soda and they were out of small bags of chips. Eventually I just stopped coming in after almost a 15 year daily habit. The reason I use to go in was to grab their low sodium Italian sausage. It is and was very good. However they significantly raised the prices and stopped putting it on sale so now I simply do without. They use to get in a variety of heritage apples in the fall, such as Arkansas Black, Newtown Pippin etc, but they stopped doing that. For the most part their produce is substandard. The most bizarre thing is Prisco's was known for the quality of its meats. But now they do bizarre things like sell fresh-frozen chicken; that is an oxymoron if ever there was. Its Deli is a joke, head to Cermack for a wider selection of brands including low sodium options (they carry Boars Head too as about 60% of Prisco's price) and much lower prices. A once quaint family store has lost its way. I now shop at Ream's meat market in Elburn and Tischler's in Plainfield or Blue Goose in St Charles for my independent grocer experience. In the end, Prisco's has changed so much in the last several years it has lost its charm, uniqueness and quality. The sad thing is ALDI's has come on strong with higher end, organic, non-gmo items at better prices and interesting special purchases. And Trader Joes has evolved into the type of experience Prisco's use to have, both with far better prices. Trader Joe;s in particular has that array of specialty items you would have thought Prisco's would carry. Cheese is a good example. Trader Joes all the way over Prisco's. read more

Prisco's is a short walk from my house, and I heard they had gelato, so I had to check them out. This isn't a full service, big box grocery store. It's best for convenience, when you don't want to wait in line elsewhere, or specialty items. I shop at Aldi, Jewel, or Woodman's for most of my groceries, but I wouldn't mind coming back to Prisco's for their beer, wine, bakery (Breadsmith bread!), or specialty items like their frozen Prisco's brand pastas (crab gnocchi!) or sausages. There is a cooler in the front of the store where you can purchase single bottles of Lavender or Blood Orange sodas. The beer and wine selection is a lot bigger than I expected when looking at this little store from the outside. The clearance section is curious, there was Pumpking beer for $4.99 in March! There is a nice variety of craft beer too (too many breweries to list). I did notice that some of the items in the dairy section were almost expired. Because this is tucked away on Prairie Street, I think the customers are loyal, neighborhood fans, so the turnover of these items is probably relatively low compared to larger grocers. The store is clean and nothing appeared blemished or expired, but you should check your expiration dates anyway. The gelato is in the "cafe" part of the store, which has a separate "Prisco's Next Door" business listing, so I'll review that more in detail under the Next Door business listing. This is one of the last real "family owned" grocery stores. I do must of my shopping at the Jewel-Osco, but there are times when I need a little something and walk down and get it. They have great quality meat. When we make pizza at home, we must go to Prisco's and get their mozzarella cheese and their homemade sausage !!!!!!!! It can not be a pizza without it. I can remember being a small child 30 plus years ago and going with my mother to their old location across town to get the cheese an sausage !!!! read more

Not unlike my Joseph's review, but even more friendly. I lived in Aurora for 7 years and while I was never the "Townie" you could see the friendships of folks in this neighborhood grocery. The owner is walking the isles helping and working. On top of that great homemade sausages, great butcher and other deli items, including fresh mozzarella. They are definitely the key to my lasagna being loved by family and friends. May the mega-corporate stores never drive out all the places like this. read more

I liked this store. It had a lot of things I couldn't find elsewhere. I stumbled upon a Groupon so, it was worth the trip. Without the Groupon things seem to be a lot more expensive then Whole Foods, and the quality isn't much better. One thing they trump a whole foods store on is lunch meat. I live in Minneapolis and my parents have been visiting our relatives in Aurora for decades. They always freeze a cooler full of sausage and drive it back to Minnesota so that we can ration out our Prisco's sausage until our next trip to Illinois. This past Christmas was the first time that I ventured into the store myself. An armful of sausage later, I'm back in Minnesota with a stocked freezer of my own. I grew up in Oswego, and this was the only place to go to for quality ground beef, Italian sausages, etc. My mom is still a regular here, but I hadn't been in quite some time. She kept telling me how great their craft beer selection was, and I continually dismissed it. I thought, surely, a small Italian grocery store can't rival Binny's? It does. They have a FULL grocery aisle dedicated to beers. And while I'm certain they have to stock Miller Light somewhere, that is not in the forefront. Exotic beers from near and far, and many, many local beers, are featured on the middle shelves. I was extremely impressed at the selection of four and six packs, and even bombers! Now, there is more to Prisco's than beer. BUT it is worth a trip just for the beer, particularly if you're a craft beer fan. That said - this is still the place to be for quality meats and any and all things Italian. Just be mindful of the time you visit, the parking can be a bit of a tight squeeze! It's a bit of a trek for groceries, but well worth it! read more

I love Priscos Fine Foods (now Priscos Family Market). This place is a gem hidden on the southwest side of Aurora near Aurora University. Priscos values their customers by making sure they all have a warm "welcome", and having attentive workers ready to help out. The best thing about the store is the meat dept. Fresh and good tasting ground chuck, and a lot of sausage varieties-all homemade. The chicken salad in the deli is also a must try. read more

I like Prisco's. As far as groceries go, I think the selection is smaller due to the lack of space, but the quality of their produce supersedes that of the giants like Meijer/Jewel etc. The real treats are the deli and bakery section..they have a large selection of cheeses, salads and olives..yumm. Unfortunately, I have yet to try the gelato but they have several flavors, pistachio, lemon, cookies and cream etc. The spaghetti salad offered at the deli is amazing!! Also, they have a little cafe, where you can get coffee drinks. When my morning route was under construction (thus blocking my only coffee option), I stopped here for lattes and they make some strong shyt!! I like that it's family owned and local-- their staff is always friendly and helpful but due to the inconvenient location (for me, living in STC), I often forget Prisco's is tucked away on Prairie St. Also, they offer a selection of fresh baked breads from STC's own Breadsmith, which is def worth it for Atown residents that don't get over to the actual shop frequently. read more

This place is great! they have a ton of random stuff that you just dont see in standard grocers. They have been around for a long time, and the product and team are the reason. Great deli selection and baked goods, along with some fantastic meats to choose from. Only drawback is they dont have a big selection of seafood. Dont see what you are looking for? If I lived closer to Prisco's, I'd be in pretty often. It's a little store, a real family-owned feel - not sure who owns it, but I don't care, it's a cool place. The meats are great - always an awesome selection, really the strength of the store. The rest of the grocery is so small that they necessarily have a lighter selection. I don't know what that smell is when I walk in, but it reminds me very much of the little corner grocery that used to be on the NW corner of Sheffield and Dickens when I was a kid. Chipped my front tooth on their concrete step. Still have good memories of it. The little butcher with a surrounding grocery. And the people are SO NICE! read more

An Aurora institution, Prisco's is the place to go for a fantastic deli, first-class service and a great meat department. It is owned by, wait for it, the Prisco family, and has been in Aurora for many years. Relocated from the south edge of Aurora to its current location in the early 90s, my only major complaint would be the tight parking situation. read more

There are not many independent grocery stores around so I like to support small businesses as much as possible. The store in general is nice but smaller than I had expected. I was hoping for a larger produce and seafood section. The beer selection is top notch with many great craft beers. The staff is extremely friendly and the store has a great neighborhood feel. The prices on some items seemed a little high but not out of line. This is a nice little market that takes pride in its quality and service. read more
