Huge store, very wide selection, very nice quality of goods. It was rather congested when I visited, though hopefully that will die down a bit, seeing as the store is still brand new. The "international" section has a very nice variety of imports and spices, much more selection than most of the other stores in the area. The meat section is absolutely huge! You can find everything from chicken, beef, and lamb, to house made sausages and even some wild game, for those adventurous enough. Produce was very colorful and fresh looking. The bakery had lots of artisan loaves, fresh rolls, not to mention some beautiful cakes on display in their pastry case. Gorgeous wine section, decent selection of craft beers and liquor. Even the frozen and dairy sections have so many different brands to choose from. The store also has a wide range of ready to eat foods and beverages, such as sushi, pizza, hot and cold food bars, fresh smoothies, and coffee. If you have a rather extensive food budget, this could easily be considered a one stop shop. Some of their pre packaged foods are a bit over priced, but those items are mixed in with a few great buys as well. It's definitely a store you need the time to browse through, as it is very easy to miss a deal if you come in a hurry. All of the staff I encountered was very polite and willingly helpful as well. Most of these reviews are spot on. While I can't speak to the level of service at smoothie bar or some of the other specialty counters, I can attest the customer service at this Mariano's has slid down hill faster than a greased pig in a mudslide. On many occasions the shelves are empty midday, if somethings on sale you can forget about it. Sold out. The plastic produce bags are always scarce, you just see empty rolls. The popcorn section is a hot mess, so much popcorn all over the floor and trash cans overflowing. Recently while strolling past the meat counter, I was assualted with the pungent odor of rotting meat. An employee caught a glimpse of my involuntary recoiling, I blurted out "what is that smell?" She causally lamented "it's always like that." My favorite is trying to use one of their in house coupons for an item and it doesn't work. Cashier took one look at me handed it back and said "don't know why this don't work." Welp it's your store coupon, it's the same item, and that's YOUR problem. Does that laziness work on anyone? Obviously I'm going to utter the words: can you ask a manager? "Manager" comes by without a word to me, enters the coupon and saunters away. So sorry to have bothered you with my purchase. First few weeks this location opened we were wooed with a piano man tickling the ivories to the tune of Candle In the Wind or some Bruce Hornsby. Had not been to Mariano's Evergreen Park in a while and during t visit remembered why. Used to make special trip just to purchase Jewish seeded rye. This trip picked a loaf that listed fresh that morning . Two clerks behind counter kept going to a back room and I asked for bread to be sliced. Was told no one was there and this they were for "bakery". Bread IS in the bakery area, I then went directly across to broasted chicken and asked when chickens were put out. Was told to check the label. I responded label did not show tIme. Then he didn't know. HE did phone someone to come to slice bread for me. 10 minutes later a person showed up. I should have just left then because bread was STALE, TASTED HORRIBLE...NOT PUT OUT AS STATED ON LABEL. Been a while since I was in store so asked a clerk in aisle where an Indian bread (nan) might be. He didn't know....never heard of it. Understand that stores have delivery problems, but shelves are out of MANY items. Also, only ONE check out lane with person, all others self check. I am at this location 4-5 times per week! I usually am there most weekday night since it's on my way home. They have great, fresh produce and a fantastic selection. Their pre-made food and deli is the best! They have a GREAT selection of specialty and health food as well. My favorite part of the store is the fast and easy checkout. I was so happy when they opened. Besides been like 5 blocks away from my house having a nice supermarket around was just going to improve the area. And it did. Not one of the cheapest supermarkets around, but it was still good enough, nice enough that it compensated for the higher prices. Now I see a pretty clear trend. Services are deteriorating. I use to go there almost once or twice a week for sushi. I stopped. The chef is rarely in his position. When I ask I'm told he is on break. When he comes then he does not prepare sushi after 4. And at 5:29 of today January 17, 2017 there is no one there. The prepared food areas are not as clean as before and the lines to pay in the food area are always 5-7 people when they used to be 1-2. Someone is not paying attention. On the July 4th weekend there was not a single shopping cart to use. The store was not that busy. So I had to go outside to get one. I spoke with the manager who asked me to always tell him when things are not "where they should be". That surprised me. That is his job. If I have to complain, it's too late. Mariano's is my quick go to place for lots of things. This place has a great selection of foods you can't find at other grocery chains. From groceries to hot food, hand made pizza and sandwiches. They also have fresh breads, and pastries. I usual stop in to get a freshly made juice to help with my veggie intake for the day. I love the convenience of the all in one store like Mariano's. I can't even describe how far this store has fallen since Kroger took over. Today there were no carts in the store, half of the produce bag dispensers were empty, lines were LONG due to the installation of a large number of self checkouts. In addition, they've reorganized in a way that makes it more cluttered and harder to shop. I used to love shopping here- but not anymore. read more

I'm here in the store, there's only one person working the hot food section, there are no more Sicilian veggies pizza. the person working can't tell me how long it would take to make a pizza, the only thing he can say is I'm working by myself it's going to be a long wait for the pizza I have to make then cook it. This I know. Then he walks over puts on a fresh pair of gloves , I'm thinking he's about to make a pizza to my surprise NO. He wasn't about make a pizza. Instead he asked me what else could I help you with" I want a Sicilian veggie pizza he says again it's going to be a while So I walked over to customer service and to my surprise again no one was at the counter. It took a couple of minutes before one of the baggers asked me did I need something I explained that there was only one person working that area and they said they know. They never offered to get some assistance for the worker. This is the second time at this particular location and the second time I left empty handed. The first time the claim they were out of dough and couldn't make any more pizzas, and now they have one person working and he can't give a customer a time when a pizza would be ready the only thing he could say is " I'm working by myself I have to make the pizza and then cook it ". First time at this location. Very helpful staff. Only complaint was the cashier, when I was checking out I swiped my card and she wasn't paying attention (speaking to the manager standing behind me waiting to check out) and did something wrong so I asked if I needed to swipe again and she asked if I was using 'food benefits'. I told her it is rude to assume, I used my debit card and processed as credit (I don't like entering my pin if I don't need to). She said sometimes you have to swipe again if you're using food benefits. And I told her, again, that I wasn't. I said you should ask first. She snapped quickly and said she did. I live within walking distance of Mariano's and have been shopping here since they have opened. I feel the quality of the times has going down. Not to mention the customer service. Today and I went to by a prime rib roast. I asked the butcher if they had any and he told me it was too expensive for this neighborhood. I could believe my ears, is that what you tell your customers? I'm really sad to be posting something negative about Mariano's since I have been shopping with them for mostly all of my goods, for a very long time. With that said, I am not one to ever complain about service and attribute peoples' attitudes to them just having a bad day; however, the customer service at this location is by far the worst I've ever experienced EVER, in any establishment. Me and my family have already had 2 bad experiences with the staff within a 1 week time frame, in multiple departments, including the deli area, bakery, and register. Overall, the staff seems very bothered by customers asking for assistance and appear to be in a very upsetting mood. The most horrible thing is that they do it right in front of me, the customer as well as other customers I've observed. They make snarky/inappropriate comments with other staff and at times, are indirect and passive. Once you are already to check out, most of the staff are pretty friendly, with the exception of a handful of people. Those staff members bag groceries as if they are being asked to perform some mind boggling, never heard of procedure. They throw the groceries in the bag and don't even greet you. I don't need them to have a deep conversation with me but a simple hello and smile would go a long way in my book. I've been to numerous Mariano's locations throughout Chicago and the suburbs, and have never received such blatant and inconsiderate display of behaviors. Other locations have staff who simply ask, "is there anything I can help with you with?" It seems that the momentum of delivering good enough customer service dissipated once the store had it's big opening; things just dwindled afterwards. I'm assuming that the larger amounts of managers at this location is probably the reason behind so many complaints, despite reading tons of positive messages. I hope to change this review in the future and hopefully they can receive some additional training to alleviate the problem areas and trim the fat. End rant. read more

I love this store- always have. I was so happy when they brought this one to Beverly. They have a nice selection of organic foods. I did like when they had the wild game meat seeing that I made that for my family, so I hope they bring that back. The staff is awesome. Mr. Krasniqi helped our school Kellogg with a fundraiser with a beautiful basket he created. I'm always running into people I know there shopping :) The food is fresh, and the guys at the grill are amazing! There are plenty of times they have saved dinner! I made the mistake of going to this Mariano's after work one evening, hoping to pick up a salad and some soup. The entire food bar area was filthy. There was food strewn all over the edge of the salad bar, as well as the soup and hot food bar, used food sample cups someone had eaten out of and napkins on the soup bar. Just an overall appearance of unsanitary conditions. It was unbelievable. What was more shocking were the customers taking up food from the filthy bars. I'll never go to this location again even if I'm in the neighborhood and made the mistake of not going to the Oak Lawn location, which is my regular location. read more

To my understanding the smoothie bar closes at 8:00 P.M but by 7:30 there is no one working that area. The employees & even managers see you standing in line waiting for someone to show & do not assist you until you walk over to customer service to complain. The only thing that customer service does is call over the intercom " assistance needed at the smoothie bar". After that nobody shows up. I do not understand why I have to be hunting anyone down if your service hours end at 8:00 P.M. & Don't even waste your time with management because they can't even locate their staff which is pathetic. A free smoothie is not what I want I am not asking for anyone to give me anything for free!! All I am asking is for better service & a damn smoothie. If I had the option of giving no stars I swear I would. LOVE the Vero coffee. I drink Almond Milk, not soy or regular milk. Mariano's is the only shop that makes Almond Milk Lattes and they are DELICIOUS! The Vero coffee in general is superb, smooth and tasty. It's my daily go to for coffee. read more

Go to this marianos quite often when working nearby. By far the worst marianos I have ever seen. Very dirty, customer service is awful. I usually go to the sandwich station for a simple smoked turkey. They are never polite, slow, been out of turkey 2 out of four times. Today i stared at the guy chopping onions who never said hello or even acknowledged me for 10 minutes. Told another girl to wait on me, I ordered turkey, she then filled bags of chips for another customer that was after me. About 8 minutes later told no turkey. 20 minutes wasted!!! We bought a milk at this store 10/23/18 only to realize once we were about to drink it that it expired 9/6/18. First, we called thursday 10/25/18 to let them know we'd be bringing it back. We brought the milk back today, 10/27/18, into the store and talked to the manager, Rich, who told us that they don't carry the product there - there were none on the shelves. We had our receipt to SHOW that we had bought the milk at the store. We continued to say they had none on the shelves, but he'd give us the return. My mom took the return and then we decided to go check the shelves. Once we looked, the ENTIRE shelf was filled with milks that expired 9/6/18. My mom brought two milks from the shelves up to the service desk and asked to talk to Rich again. He came up and she asked again if they had checked for the expired ones and he said they had none on the shelves again. So, my mom showed him the two milks we took from the shelf and asked about them. He began to stutter and couldn't answer us fully about them, just telling us his employees knew what they were doing. Obviously they didn't for an ENTIRE shelf to be very expired. Then, we went back to get pictures and he was already back there frantically taking down the milks (pictures included.) This isn't the first time that we've gotten expired products there. My dad brought yogurt back not too long ago that had expired, so it's an ongoing thing. These milks were left up there even after we called thursday and told them. If they would've checked, they would've seen every single milk on the shelf had expired. Rich was extremely disrespectful to my mother, and didn't even bother to check. He told her that he checked right after she called thursday and that none were on the shelf. Then, when we came in he also said they didn't carry the product... and yet the entire shelf was full of the product that expired almost two months ago. Pictures included. I cannot say enough good things about this location of Mariano's. Every time I go (which is often), the service is great. My favorite part of the experience is the smoothie bar! These smoothies are delicious. I like the overall layout of the store and there are ample checkout lines...so I have never had to wait very long to check out. Today 2/24/17 5:30 pm. I went to the Beverly Mariano's ( 95th near Western). It was the worst. The customer service at the meat counter, makes this entire chain look terrible. I stood there along with two ladies waiting for the guy behind the counter to at least acknowledge that we were there.....he didn't until I asked "are you working at this counter or should we be waiting for someone else" he held up hid finger and said in a low irritated tone, "I'm working here", and never looked up again. Then the attendant working at the fish station came over. He wasn't any better. They were not attentive to the people standing at the counter waiting for service. I don't want to ramble, because I could go on and on about the experience. They annoyed me to the point that I left my cart of groceries right there and left the store to go to the one on Cicero where it's always a pleasant experience. Shop at your own risk. read more

I am updating this review based on some things that have happened in the last couple of months or so. Despite assurances that the quality of selection especially the fresh organics would remain intact, unfortunately, since Mariano's was purchased by Kroger, - in recent months, many have found that the quality of food is not the same. And especially with regard to the abundance of organics that first drew me to the store a few months ago. In the last couple of visits, I noticed that much of the fresh organics has been replaced with regular fruits and vegetables as can be found at any other store, so that was a big disappointment. And as such I am deducting one star. lowering the review to 3-Stars- as one does not expect a merger to make the quality go down as much as it has with regard to food products. At first we loved the variety of the organics selections, but now it is about the same as with Jewel, while okay, it isn't necessarily worth paying extra for. There has been a drastic change since I first visited in the summer until now. The store is still generally okay, but most of the problems that led me away from Jewel, I am seeing at Kroger/Mariano's. Before I could buy organic wild yams or organic golden potatoes by the bag for baking, and now if they even have them it's individual yams and they may not even be organic- Apparently Kroger Foods doesn't think the consumer base at Mariano's is worth the effort of quality pesticide free options, so I think we will have to make the extra trip to Whole Foods. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review- I finally had the opportunity to go to the new Mariano's in the Evergreen Park area- In short, I. Love. It. Although the prices are definitely higher than the Jewel-Osco, nearby, the prices are lower than Whole Foods, so I think it is definitely something to consider. And my overall shopping experience was thoroughly enjoyable-- I liked it so much I signed up for a Mariano's card... Downsides-- only two or three that specifically come to mind: 1- The bakery. I could only try one or two things, but didn't like anything I tried enough to want to buy again. I feel like I can get better tasting treats elsewhere at better prices. And 2- Apparently all of their freshly made soups have 'chicken' or meat stock in them--even the broccolli soup had chicken stock, (even if I wasn't a vegetarian, this would get a little monotonous)--sigh, and 3-- The smallness of the store impacts the total variety and range of goods available. So, because this is one of the smaller locations and they didnot have the range of selection that Jewel has. For example- in the cooking oil section, while they had every brand of olive oil, which was great, they didNOT have any 'Avocado' oil, whatsoever, which I usually get from Thrive online, but can now find at 'Jewel' (although in their defense i may have missed it being unfamiliar with the layout, but I didn't see any), and they also did not have 'coconut-cream', and they only had canned coconut milk-- although I am able to find both, the coconut milk or cream at Jewel. But in terms of general quality and freshness, I absolutely loved the freshness of their produce, which Jewel has been sadly lacking of late, and the main reason for my visit, but the Mariano's organic veggies, and fruits selections were outstanding, and even though I hate shopping at multiple stores on grocery-restocking days, for that alone, I would make a point of going back. So, there are probably a few novelty items that I will still need to go to Jewel for, so will have to work it out as I really enjoyed my shopping experience-- But so far there are some things that I can only easily find at Jewel although in terms of quality, I love Whole Foods and now Mariano's. I also hear the Whole Foods that is supposed to be at the old Evergreen Park location on 95th is still going to be completed in 2018, despite the delay after changing ownership recently (purchased by Amazon), so I am looking forward to making more comparisons of the two stores when both are in the area. If the bakery had worked out better, I would have given it an extra half-star atleast, but overall, it was a fantastic day at a fantastic grocer! read more
