I moved to Houston five years ago and refused to switch doctors because she's provided top-notch care. Are the wait times long? Yes, but she always puts her patients' needs first. During that time, I became very ill from abruptly stopping the medication and was left without clear communication or assistance. The most frustrating part was being unable to reach my actual physician directly regarding the issue. Instead of receiving answers or timely support, I was repeatedly redirected through other staff members while my medication continued to be delayed. Patients should not be left without necessary medication due to office communication failures or lack of provider coverage. I understand doctors take time off, but there should be a reliable continuity-of-care process in place so patients are not negatively impacted. I hope this office improves its communication, refill management, and patient care moving forward.

I've been a patient of Dr. Wiegand's for 17 years, and after my experience today, it'll be my last…read more Her staff is always friendly, and she used to go above and beyond when it came to patient care. She was double booked this morning, and I waited 30 minutes to get called back. I was the second person there. Ten minutes later, she came in for the visit. No apology or explanation as to why I had to wait so long (she usually apologizes and explains she was with a patient at the hospital or had an emergency). My weight was slightly up, and instead of offering encouragement on how I can better manage it, any idea I discussed was shot down with negativity. I've never felt like such a failure, and to top it off, weight in general is a sensitive topic. I've struggled with it my entire adult life. In addition, she asked if I received the vaccine. I've done my personal research and have decided to wait until I'm done having kids to do so. My personal choice. She told me I NEED to get it and said her daughter wants kids soon, but she got vaccinated anyways. Good for her. She also snarkily said, "any information out there saying it affects fertility isn't true anyways." I just replied with, "ok." It took everything in me not to burst into tears this entire appointment, and out of the years I've been a patient, I have NEVER been so rudely treated (by any doctor) in my life. I moved to Texas 7 years ago and considered switching four years back for the sake of not scheduling appointments around my time off/vacation days. Now, I'm browsing doctors close to me who will take action instead of shut down and condemn.

This is the worst staff I've ever dealt with in all of my medical history…read more I've been a type-1 diabetic for over 30 years and I've worn an insulin pump since 2001. For over eight days, the staff at Grady Endocrinology Center has neglected to do their job by simply providing my Pharmacist with a simple diagnosis code for blood testing strips. My insurance requires that I test at least four times per day, so when I was running low on testing strips, I called the Center... The first issue is that when you call, you don't ever get to consult with an actual human being to discuss whatever needs to be discussed. You're sent to the desk of a woman who promises to "get back to you within 48 hours". When she finally returned my call, I informed her of their fault. She immediately acted as if everyone at my local pharmacy didn't know how to do their job and blamed them, telling me that she'd take care of the problem. She called half an hour later to confirm that she sent the information. I should mention that I'd already had to purchase strips out-of-pocket due to all of this. I have medical insurance for this very purpose. Upon returning to my pharmacy, I encounter the same problem -- a new prescription was sent in, but with no diagnosis code. So, I call Grady Endocrinology Center again... My call is returned the following day, and met with the same routine. Repeat pharmacy visit/repeat the SAME problem. Finally, I decide to call after hours so that I can get the answering service to put an emergency call in to Dr. Justin Matriciano directly. He returns my call within five minutes and I relay the situation that I've been dealing with to him. He immediately defended his staff, saying that he'd have to check with them about this in the morning. He continued to say that pharmacies have a tendency to make mistakes like this and even told me that this was an Emergency Call and that unless I was in the ER, I shouldn't have contacted him. This let me know that he didn't care and didn't consider a patient waiting over 8 days to get a proper prescription from their doctor was an emergency. I felt like my intelligence was being challenged at this point so I pointed out that I saw BOTH prescriptions with my own eyes and BOTH lacked the diagnosis codes necessary for the pharmacy to fill the prescription. He made it clear that he didn't want to be on the phone with me and tried to speak over me for the duration of the short conversation. He then hastily repeated that he'd have to check up on things in the morning and hung up on me. He didn't say that he'd fill the prescription himself and see it through, he said that he'd "check with his staff in the morning" -- a complete lack of responsibility. The following day, the pharmacy had no prescription for me. No call from Grady Endocrinology. At this point, I decided to call my general practitioner and explain the scenario to see if they could aid me. In less than 20 minutes, my GP filled the necessary prescription and the pharmacy called to say my strips were available. I am now actively looking for a new Endocrinologist. Lack of action like this can really screw up certain aspects of particular Insurance Company requirements and even potentially land patients in the ER. Thankfully, my prescription was for glucose strips and not insulin -- I would've been in the ER by day 3.
