I was looking for a barbershop close to my home when I remembered this place which has been around for quite some time. My fiancee's brother went here before and really liked the experience. So I made a reservation for a Wednesday at 5:00pm. All the staff were super friendly and inviting. Ryan was my barber that day and he did a great job. He told me he's been cutting hair for seven years and sees it as an art form. I can definitely see that in his work. He also told me the shop has been open for 90 years and has always been family owned and operated. That says a lot about the place. The atmosphere is very laid back with lots of unique decor on the walls from music to movies and skateboarding. My cut was $30 and was absolutely worth it. This is officially my go-to barbershop and I'm asking for Ryan again because he did a great job. read more

I gave this place a fair chance 2x. My main issue is the way they treat their customers... An elderly man showed up around Christmas time with cookies for them, only to be flat out ignored and wasn't given the time of day. The owner literally hid in the back to avoid him. I also showed up 2 minutes before my appointment, only to be ignored by everyone and they were simply sitting around on their phones. 5 minutes past my appointment they finally greet me by asking who is cutting my hair, my barber is no where to be found. Been coming to this barbershop since I moved to Cincy. I drive down from North of the city 35 minutes one way and will continue to do so. If you're looking for a barber shop that is the real deal, this is it. No commercial chain faux barber shop stuff here. Checkerboard floor, customers reading newspapers, everything from Sinatra, to BB King, to modern music playing in the background, hair being snipped and guys leaned back in their chairs getting straight razor shaves. It is a real step back in time, where things slow down a little bit. If you want to talk, there's conversation a plenty going on. If you just want to close your eyes, escape the rat race and have quiet time, that's on offer as well. It's your choice. Brian is my barber and he's a great guy. I've had my hair cut and face shaved by all of the guys there - Ron, Brian, Tim, and Eugene. Never once have I left dissatisfied. The prices are very fair for the type of service you receive. As others have said - you're going to want to book an appointment as they are slammed on most days. I've been going to this Shoppe for probably well over10 years and love the area of the City where I was when a young boy while my Dad worked at the Searchlight Mirror Plant as a Corps of Army Engineers QC during the years from 1940 to 41 until he went R.A. in 1942. Ron has always been my Barber when I had long hair and full beard and mustache. He is a great Barber and friend after all of these years. He is fastidious and very professional in his cuts and uses a razor like men used to clean up the edges and stray hairs on the eyebrows, sideburns and hair line. I always feel the difference as his services end up giving me a boost in my appearance and self-image. I go once every so many months and always look forward to our conversations. He reminds me of two Barbers I had in Wisconsin years past! Guys like Ron are retiring and it is a real loss for older men to find someone that can always be relied upon. This is a great authentic barbershop. I have been getting my hair cut here for about 15 years. I usually get my hair cut by Ron Salzano (Owner and barber) but Brian and Eugene are great too. It definitely has the classic barbershop feel. It's a place where you can have a shave, a haircut, and an interesting conversation. The barbers are really friendly, and each has their own group of regulars. They take walk-ins if they aren't busy, but I recommend making an appointment either in the morning or a day in advance. All of their services are very reasonably priced, especially taking into account the experience of the barbers. I've never had a bad haircut here. read more

I went to this Barber shop yesterday and it was the perfect Barber Shop experience. I just moved to Oakley, but I lived near Cincy all my life. I really enjoy going to Barber shops for the personal hair cut and to find a staff with knowledge on how men like their hair cut THIS PLACED DELIVERED!!! Fromt he moment you walk in you are taken back to a slower time when getting your hair cut was more than a transaction, but can experience. I had the pleasure of working with Lucky, who took lots of time to get my hair just right (I have straight hair and not everyone can cut it properly). They don't hurry you out the door and offer solid conversation that is genuine and not forced. Bottom line: If you are looking for a great hair cutting experience this is where you want t go. $16 + tip is a great price to pay for a real deal cut, razor shave on the back of the neck and all. PLEASE NOTE: There is another shop nearby calling themselves "Mariemont Barber Shop." The REAL shop is located in the Best Western Motel and is only designated by a barber pole out front. Can you become a fan of a place even if you did not get the service you intended to? Yes, if it is Mariemont barbers. Well, the fault was mine. For one thing, this place is super-busy. I tried to call and get an appointment for the same day, i could not. No way.I got an appointment for the next day. Next day something came up and i had to cancel. On the third try, i got the appointment and got to the place. The shop is inside the same building as the historical Mariemont Inn. Parking is behind the hotel. I wanted to get a haircut and a shave. But the barber informed me that he could not give me a shave within the allotted time.Because i did not specify anything, he had allocated 20-25 minutes for me, which did not give him ample time to give a professional shave. And there was another appointment just after mine. This was serious bummer for me.A professional "real" shave (not with a trimmer) is the most pampering experience a man can have i suppose, and that's what i really wanted. Anyways, the barber agreed to trim my beard to the shape i wanted.I agreed, grumbling.But in the next 25 minutes what happened was a miracle.Just when i was thinking "I will show these guys with a two-star review" my facial hair shaped into a marvelous shape. In fact my wife told me i looked much better than i looked in last 6 months. Ah hell, if these guys can do this well with a trimmer, i am sure the actual shave would be a heavenly experience. If you've read any of my previous reviews then you already know that I consider Mariemont to be about as close as you can get to Thomas More's Utopia here in the Ohio Valley. I love the wine shop, the cupcakery, the movie theatre, and now I can adamantly add barber shop to the list as well. Maybe it's because I buzz cut my own hair until I was 16 or maybe it's because I frequented Great Clips for the last decade, but I am absolutely in love with this place. For starters, the ambiance and decor of this hole in the wall is a throwback to 1950s barber shops (that's partly because they've been in business since 1934). The three guys who work here are all different and funny and talented at what they do. And as for the haircut itself, prepare to be wowed. Each time I get my hair cut here it's been perfect. They take their time and pay attention to detail. I love how at the end they throw a little hot lather on the back of my neck and get all those hairs with a straight razor! And if that's not a good enough finale, prepare to have all the loose hairs that are straggling from your recent trim to be sucked off your head and neck vacuum style! It's as great as it sounds! And here's the best part - it's only $16! I can't imagine why any male in Cincinnati would ever go anywhere else. It's only $4 more than Great Clips and you don't have to listen to crappy music and have a forced conversation with an awkward mother of five. Adversely, it's nearly $20 cheaper than some nearby high end salons charge for a men's cut. I'm not the only person that realizes how money this barber shop is because they are practically fully booked every day. So make sure you make an appointment as opposed to just stopping in! Also, if you have time afterwards walk across the parking lot and treat yourself to a nice bottle of wine and a delectable cupcake at Dilly Cafe and The Sweeterie! read more

Found this gem on yelp based on its high reviews. It is hands down the best barber shop in Cincinnati. I drive 20-30 min out of my way on my way home from work to go here. The guys are great. 16$ for a perfect cut. HINT: First timers have a hard time finding this place due to lack of a sign. Once you park in the parking lot, put your back towards the school and walk to the street on your left (I belive there are condos there). It has the cylindrical spinning barber thing outside and that is it. All my friends go here consistently after their first visit. read more

Solid salon-alternative for guys who want a great $16 haircut without all the frills. If you're not familiar with the area, this spot in located on the rear of the Best Western Hotel in the center of Mariemont village. They have free parking in the back and theres lots of street parking. There is no sign - only the barber pole. Definitely make an appointment. Even during the week these guys are very busy and walk-ins can be hard to come by, Eugene cut my hair. He's one of the younger guys on their team and gave me a straighforward, modern cut. He was very detail oriented, snipping and trimming for nearly a half hour. The grand finale was the hot lather neck shave which is a must in any proper barbershop. He even showed me how to properly apply product and comb my hair to get the right look. My one and only gripe about this place is that it was not particularly clean or neat. The counters had clutter all over them, the floor needs a good sweeping, and there were dusty boxes stacked in the corner. What i'm coming to realize is that lots of female salon stylists simply do not know how to properly cut men's hair - no matter how much they charge. If you're currently doing like $30-50 Hyde Park/Kenwood salon thing, give this a shot. read more

I just moved to Cincinnati and needed to get my first local haircut. I'm glad that I checked out Yelp and found myself in Mariemont Barber Shop. I got a great haircut from Ron and the rest of the guys were friendly. The shop is small, but has all of that classic barbershop character. Be sure you call and make an appointment - their website recommends it as well. They were pretty steady and everybody that came in while I was there had an appointment. Also, as somebody else pointed out, the shop might be a little hard to spot. There's no outside signage - only the barber pole on the building wall, outside of their door. Asked for a trim on top (could previously pull my hair down to my eyes), left with a buzz, essentially. Barber never used scissors on the top. Also, hair was left long around my ears. Came here because the Yelp reviews were good. I was extremely disappointed. The other barbers looked like they were doing well, but my guy was not experienced. I was introduced to Mariemont Barber Shop by a friend who insisted that this was the only way to get a shave and a hair cut. If you have the time and facial hair, I would definitely recommend the traditional shave. It's kind of the male equivalent to going to the spa. The three barbers who run this joint are all great. I've been coming here ever since I moved to Cincinnati about two years ago now, and I get my hair cut about once every four months. It's a small, cozy place and the small talk is always enjoyable and is never forced (think Sports Clips or other chains). As others have mentioned, make sure you get an appointment. They usually have openings from two or three days out. When you get there, simply look for the barber pole out front -- there's no other marking. I haven't gotten a cut and a shave yet, but it's on my to-do list. This place is truly something special. I've been coming here for the better part of 6 months and have yet to have a less than fantastic experience. My first time Eugene gave me a shave and a hair cut. This was my first time having somebody give me a shave and it was great. My face was smooth and felt fantastic. He gave me one of the best hair cuts I've ever had. I keep going back because they are super polite, accommodating, and skilled barbers. Eugene is great to talk to on those days you want to talk, or quiet the days you don't. If you go here you'll notice countless regulars coming through, multi generational regulars, and that says something. Do yourself a favor, come here and get a proper grown up haircut. Make an appointment as they are busy. I hope this place never closes it's doors as I will continue to go as long as I have hair. I called ahead and went in for a beard trim and shave. After finding the place, I found it to be a traditional barber shop. Brian listened to how I wanted my beard trimmed and asked me if I had a goal in mind. I told him that I'm going for the long "Viking" type beard. He laughed and said he can get me going in the right direction. He shaped my beard and gave me a fantastic shave around the edges. The service is top notch, and the conversation was entertaining.
