I would give less than one star if I could. I have never had such a bad experience with a sewing center. The owners were very difficult and blamed everyone but themselves, all while holding onto a large amount of my money that they refused to give back. This was the worst 5 months. After decades of working in and teaching digital photography and graphic design, I've found myself involved in a new craft: digital embroidery. Our UB Department of Art Graphic Design and Emerging Practices lab has acquired several new fabrication machines to give our students access to output devices beyond the screen and printed page. This machine would let them print out logos and other designs across a range of fabrics and clothing items. After an online search for Brother embroidery machines, I was connected to Marie's, a local distributor. I spoke to Don who gave me a helpful introduction to the product line, and recommended a 6-needle model suited to our needs and budget. He sent me a quote and I placed the order. When the machine arrived, Don invited me to sit down with him in the store to go over basic operations, from threading along the complex paths of tensioners to arranging the fabric in the hoops, an overview of stabilizer materials, and a demo of the machine's software interface. It was a good two-hour session which really helped to get me up and running, and subsequently instruct our students on machine use. My interactions with everyone in this family-owned business have been nothing but pleasant. Don, Marie and their staff are eager to share their knowledge. As is always the benefit of shopping at local, family-owned businesses versus the impersonal big-box chains, expert service by professionals who love what they do cannot be matched. I've visited the store a few times for fabrics since installing the machine. Marie's carries thousands of bolts of materials of all sorts, thread libraries, tools, kits and supplies, and offers classes. This store is participating in the "Brown Bag Mystery" quilting activity. On it's web site it shows one option to select to participate "Earl Grey". So selecting that, I assumed a piece of that fabric would be one of the 5 sent. I received 5 uninteresting selections of fabric, no Earl Grey. When I contacted the store, I was told that if I wanted the Earl Grey, I would have to order Earl Grey as the border material for another $35.00. I feel that if Earl Grey is in the photo for selecting that bag, it should be included as one of the 5. I feel that this is false advertising. The store gave me their rational," Earl Grey just shows what colors will be in the selection. " What I received was one grey fabric, one white and three oranges, really plain with almost no detail in the prints. Not the Kaffe Fassett shown. High quality sewing machines and ewing machine repair are hard to find. Don will tend to your repairs. Marie and the staff will help you choose the best machine for your needs. Their carefully selected fabric inventory is basic, unusual, and very attractive. Classes if you want them. Patterns and craft supplies and they do long-arm quilting too. Location may seem out of the way if you live in Buffalo, but it's well worth the drive. read more

I attended the OESD super event at the Best Western in Lockport. This was my first 2-day event. I loved it. I met new people with similar sewing abilities. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The teacher was expert in her field and very hands on. Lunch was served both days. It was a fun event and I learned many new things. Thanks Marie & Don for a great time. read more
