However I am so appreciative of the folks over at Mayes Ward-Dobbins that I just had to write a review, so that others can see the wonderful services they provide. James and the whole team from Mayes Ward worked with our family through the entire end of life process. From the planning stages into the actual viewing/funeral/burial once my father-in-law passed away, they were right by our sides, providing excellent guidance and support. Their facility on Church Street is modern but tasteful, and provides ample room for even large scale visitations and funerals, such as ours. The staff worked closely with us to take care of all the little things, such as easels for pictures, TV hookups for a slideshow, and water and mints for... well, you can guess how we were feeling after several hours of up close and personal chatting with friends and relatives. My points of reference for end of life services are limited to when my grandparents passed away last year, however when I compare the experiences I cannot help but feel blessed that we were able to work with Mayes Ward-Dobbins for my father-in-law. They are kind but thorough, gentle but competent. My condolences go to anyone who is in need of funeral services, however if you are in that situation, Mayes Ward-Dobbins is a wonderful and compassionate place to go for the next phase.

The director did not offer any help when it cam time to have the family see her for the last time and we have over 30 people in a this tiny room to say good bye. You could barely see your hand in front of you. The Sound system was awful. They had no vehicle to transport the flowers to cemetery in, they were put in my sister in laws car, and one was left at funeral home, to be picked up by family member. I have never been to a funeral home and funeral where the people that worked there dressed so casually. The people that are supposedly running this place need to go to other funeral homes and see how to do their jobs appropriately . We should have investigated this funeral home before using them as it was not the same as when my father in law died. The place was dusty, Freezing cold. You cannot run a business like this by being cheap. I do not understand why we were not put in the room to the right that we had used for previous funerals for the size of our family . It is much bigger and would have allowed people to move easier and not be on top of each other. you get the lowest score possible.

I settles on a glassed in site in the crematorium. Afterwards, I realized that the price covered a small case, since when we looked at another Dignity site, the price was for a bigger spot. After a year, I decided I wanted a larger spot or a spot outside. When I was shown my options, everything was basically DOUBLED! For the slightly larger site now, since they already had my money and a contract, now there were no discounts. And the 5 year interest free payments now had an interest. To inter both of us- AT THE SAME TIME, instead of the $75, I was given before, now it was half the cost of one interment. When we were there the first time, I said to my daughter, it was like buying a car- she kept going to her "manager" to get us a better deal. This time, since I was locked in, no discounts. It's bad enough having to live through my wife's death, but to be treated like I was buying a used car was unforgivable. Finally, yesterday, I received an advertisement- TO MY WIFE! It's bad enough getting stuff from the usual junk mail, but getting an addressed to my dead wife was inappropriate and hurtful. If you go there, I would recommend not making any decision on your first visit. Once they've got you, you are done for.

My Dad and I went here when my Mom passed away because it was the closest funeral home and you don't have time for research when these things happen. I typed up an obituary for my Mom. Somehow after Winkenhofer got hold of it, it was filled punctuation errors and typos. I checked my original to make sure I hadn't made mistakes, but no, my original was fine. I re-typed it for them in the office. The version that showed up in my parents' hometown newspaper still had the typos, though, and the guest book also had typing and spelling errors. We had to ask for those pages to be corrected and reprinted. Visitation begins, and someone asks if my parents "had the same last name?" I look at the funeral program, and they've printed my Mom's maiden name as being the same as my Dad's last name, as though they were cousins! Fortunately they were able to correct that and reprint these in the back before more people showed up. (Despite the price you're paying, these are not printed on a press, but on a regular desktop printer.) Unfortunately, less than a year later my Dad passed. Despite my previous experience I went with Winkenhofer-Pine Ridge again because, as I say, you don't have time for shopping around at these times, and at least I knew their process. My Dad had requested John Lennon's "Imagine" to be played at his funeral. This was about $350 extra, even though I knew all they did was set up a boom box behind a bouquet. We get to the funeral home, another Dignity franchise in my parents' hometown...and Winkenhofer forgot to bring the boom box. The home loaned them another one, and it wouldn't recognize the CD. So much for one of my Dad's final requests. Lastly, Winkenhofer-Pine Ridge issued the death certificate, and they marked my Dad as a non-high school graduate. He DID graduate! He would NOT have wanted to go down in history as a dropout! I insisted this be changed. The woman agreed to do it, but said, "No one is going to look at this." How about I'M going to look at it, the guy paying over $10,000?! As stated at the beginning, this was several years ago, so hopefully they've gotten better, or my experiences were an anomaly. They had TWO chances to get it right, though. I never got around to filling out the J.D. Powers survey I got years ago, so I'm glad I can write this.
