I LOVE the Novato Campus of MCC. True, their care can be spotty at the San Rafael Campus. However, my dermatological care, vaccination and OB/GYN care have been top tier. I have been going there since 2020. My dermatologist, Dr. Erik Schten, is one of my favorite docs of all time, between Honolulu and Marin. He is thorough, careful, friendly and knowledgeable. His PA on 8/1/25 was Stephanie. She gets 10 out of 5 stars! I explained while she was taking my stats, that I needed an OB/GYN appt. That field is currently crowded due to open positions for doctors/NP, etc. While Dr. Schten was examining me, Stephanie was working in the office to find me an appt.! She was successful and I am now scheduled. Again, she was friendly and efficient. I'm so appreciative of very excellent care I receive from Dr. Schten and his staff. If you care about your health avoid this location at all costs. I've been a patient there for many years. No ENT , the referrals do not work , you're just a number and any medical chief should be ashamed. Eventually it will cost you your money and health especially if you ask for a dental filling and end up with a root canal. The director of dental does not know how to treat or diagnose anything oral. I have used both the dental office and medical office. I'll start with dental: Last year I needed an extraction, called oral surgeons who accept Denti-Cal (I have due to being chronically ill) and they all said "we have to pull multiple teeth, we can't just pull one" so I decided to contact the clinic, they got me in for an emergency consultation, put me on the waiting list, plus scheduled an appointment. A few days later I got a call for a Sunday morning appointment to have the tooth extracted. I went in, they gave me "gas" because of the horrific dental anxiety I have; and because they do NOT put people under here for extractions; no matter how bad their dental trauma is. This experience only added to the trauma I had, although the dentist "Jimmy" she was great, but nothing with my teeth or body goes by the textbooks or the dental school or med school training anyone has. It took a long time, and it was a horrible experience, yet, good, because everyone was patient with me. The extraction site was badly infected and I was not given antibiotics; but I did call get antibiotics from another provider. I went in for a cleaning after that, and they don't polish teeth due to covid - so I never really felt like I got a cleaning. I was going back for my next cleaning when they called and left a message to cancel because their dental assistant who does the cleaning was not certified to give me the "gas" that I need during dental treatment. I've not been back, but will check soon to see if they have people certified yet. They also could not tell me a head of time how much my appointment would be, they said they'll tell me the day of appointment (this is for non Denti-Cal covered services and I have a lot of those) Here we go on medical: I had stopped going here because my long time PCP retired, but then went back in to practice; well fast forward five years and he retired again; vanished, boom, GONE ... so I had a medical emergency, and didn't care for how his replacements NP/PA was handling my care, so I called the clinic to see if I could get back in, they got me in within a week to see an NP who went over what happened, and has followed up via telephone as well as by using their portal. This is a very busy clinic, and thankfully due to my insurance I don't always need a referral, although some physicians do prefer contact with a PCP; the specialists I've seen since my return are okay without referrals. It's a great place to go if you're a Medicare patient and you know the ins and outs of your plan, if you're strictly Medi-Cal, or self pay, you may run in to some issues. Since I used to work in a medical office and for a medical insurance company, my standards of expectations of people who work in this field is fairly high. When dealing with the staff in person, I found myself a bit perturbed at their nonchalant attitudes, and use of cell phones or talking "small talk" with co-workers. I believe we should treat one another decently, respectfully, and have eye contact (not looking at our phones or off to the side at our co-workers), it's not an easy job working with the public; but if you don't want to accept criticism (like some of these reviews) it's best to go work in the back office or find a different job. The people on the phone are always very polite and extremely helpful. Over all, this is a clinic, they are VERY busy, and probably, VERY overwhelmed. I appreciate that ALL staff members wear their masks, wash their hands or use hand sanitizer and that hand sanitizer is available for patients as well. Daughter could never get meds or appts when I show up they make me wait 2 hours after appt time telling me dr is backed up but ppl coming in after us wherr getting called right away. I've been trying to reach them regarding to get my flu shot and a following check up. It's been two weeks I've been calling and they seem like they don't answer their phone for unknown reason. I've left probably a couple messages and no one has yet to call me back. I am not shaming or calling them out but come on guys, at least you can give us a call back and apologize for the inconvenience or something. I do hope to get a call back soon. I really enjoy you guys but at this point, I am debating to leaving if this treatment continues not only on me but for other people. read more

Went for an annual preventive physical checkup, which should've been totally free under Covered California. They didn't code it as preventive, so they charged me $75 copay, & $33 for blood test. After 12 calls, 5 emails & a fax, billing department is nearly impossible to contact, & I can't reach anyone who can help me. Not going back ever again. read more

They have email portal, yet NEVER respond. You call and takes forever to get a call back. They cannot comprehend what facility to send lab paperwork to so when you show up for tests, the order is NOT there. read more

They don't answer the phone. You can try hanging on the line for an hour. I give up. They don't let your leave a message as their voicemail box as instructed as it is always full for the last 2 years. I have to email them to get someone to call me. When you get a referral they don't call you to tell you it arrived. If they promise to call you they won't. I would leave this clinic but I'm forced into it by insurance. They seem to do their best to reduce costs by ignoring you until you give up. read more

This is just a quick note about the Novato campus of Marin Community Clinics. On Friday, I had an appointment to see the dermatologist, Dr. Eric Schten. From the time of my arrival, I found the experience to be phenomenal. All Covid-19 protocols were observed and I was called in to an examining room just after my appointment time by Jamie. We moved through all the onboarding (it was my first visit) with ease along with the help of Isaiah, and Dr. Schten came right along for a full examination. He was friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about his field. He targeted questionable areas with ease and treated them immediately. This facility amazed me with how well appointed it was. Staff were friendly and outgoing. Certainly one of the best medical experiences of my life, and that is saying quite a bit. One downside is parking is rather precious at this location. I parked right on Redwood Blvd. but arrived early in case it would be a hike! read more

Today I went to the dentist ... something I do not enjoy doing. It is painful and uncomfortable and today that was not the case. I first was greeted by Daniela C. The receptionist and she was lovely! She was very welcoming and polite. She told me about the services and helped me update my account with MCC. She checked me in and Carlos quickly came out and called my name. Carlos was also very polite and happy to do his job. He made me feel very comfortable and began setting up the room for the dentist. My dentist James Preble was also happy to be there and ready to work. He began by explaining what we would be doing today. During my procedure he was polite and conversating. By the time we were finished I felt no pain and was glad I came in today and received excellent service! I hope I get Carlos and James again when I return! This visit is hands down the best treatment I've received from staff. Thank you MCC for hiring excellent people to provide for us service. read more

Been a long time patient, as this place has gotten way worse. Takes 45 mins to take to someone who is stressed out with zero compassion, with little to none communication skills. I had severe pain and they gave me meds that nearly destroyed me. Would not return calls. Be very careful trusting these people with your health. read more

Both my teenage kids have been seen for initial consults at the Novato Dental Clinic and had horrible experiences. My oldest daughter was traumatized after her initial consult. The dentist was demeaning, cold, compassion-less and very unprofessional! He told my daughter she would need minimally 4-5 root canals and proceeded to show her a You Tube video. A root canal is a last resort treatment and he absolutely should not have discussed this with her alone. I followed up to discuss her experience and he blatantly lied and was cold as ice. I highly recommend you stay away from Dr. Tu Nguyen!!! We may file an official complaint with Dental Board. This was a nightmare experience for my daughter and we will NEVER go back! read more

The worst Dentist!!! I have had nearly every appointment this year rescheduled or canceled and this morning they cancelled on me 15min before I was leaving. Which is a huge inconvenience because I'm a single mom of 2 and had to get care for both my children because they don't allow you to bring your children unless there is another adult there. So I had to spend money on sitter because my appointments are always rescheduled or cancelled and I have urgent work that needs to be done. As a patient we are required to give 24hr notice if cancelling yet they can call you 30 min before your appointment and cancel. When calling back to speak to a manager I was told there wasn't a manager on duty yet she placed me on hold and comes back to tell me the manager is who called to cancel my appointment. So they lied, there was a manager on duty. Then the lady tells me the appointment looks like it wasn't cancelled it is for 10am. I said well my appointment was for 9:30am and the "manager" just called to cancel it and now your saying she didn't. I got a huge run around and then ultimately she asked me to hold and then transferred me to a voicemail for complaints. Let's just say I'm fed up and filed a complaint with BBB. read more

This was one of my best experiences with dental work, and I've had plenty! I came in for a fairly complex procedure to replace a gold filling that had fallen out. It was in a precarious position, being at the very back of my mouth. The care, consideration, and palpable skill of Dr. Pomerantz & Jennifer were exceptional in every way. They kindly explained each part of the procedure and patiently listened to my questions & concerns. I am generally anxious at the dentist and felt so blessed to have been so comfortable and cared for. In addition, the front desk staff was very hospitable and professional.
