If you live in the Marin County, this is the place to go if you need a legit RC Car, not like the ones you get at target, these cars are better. My boyfriend and I found this nice little shop when we were in the area and wanted to see what kind of RC Cars this place had. The guy working there Brian was such a great guy to talk to. They talked about the different types of RC cars there was. There are drift cars, monster trucks, buggies, crawlers... the list goes on. We were in there for maybe an hour or so just talking. Brian was such a gem, that 5 years later we go back and have built a wonderful friendship with him, he had become our older brother. Brian is that type of person who will not just sell you an RC car, but he will sell you one that suits you. If you had a car in mind and he does not have it in stock, he is willing to order it and he will make sure he orders you the best one. Brian also fixes RC cars if something is broken or if you have no idea why it isn't working. He will give you a quote before actually fixing it and if the price is good with you, he will start the fixing processes. He is not the type of sell you useless cars, he tries his best to order the best. He does sell more then just RC cars. Just go check him out and see what he has to offer. He also has model cars that you can build. He has a few trains and tracks. He has a lot of paints for the models and other things. Brian is great. read more

They signed up to be in the UPS program where they will receive packages, and you can then later pick them up from them. These guys decided on Wednesday that they didn't want to be part of the program anymore. My package was already en route to their store when he abruptly decided to make this change, which I only discovered when I arrived yesterday (Thursday) to pick up the package that was supposed to be delivered - but the owner told me he refused the delivery. The guy said he was too busy to deal with ups anymore, which I understand, however, instead of refusing packages the normal and rational thing to do would be to finish his obligations to customers who already had packages en route. It isn't reasonable to cancel the service on Wed and refuse the following day- there were shipments headed there for over a week, and UPS can't update and notify customers that quickly. I do occasionally purchase RC cars and planes, and might have become a customer of his after stopping in. However, the way they dealt with this makes me never want to set foot in Marin Hobby again. I now have to wait for my package to go all the way back to the sender to then come all the way back to me. Horrible business practices- avoid! read more

I was trying to set up my 1930 Lionel train around my Christmas tree. My track wasn't powering my train and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to work. I called Marin Hobby and even though they were due to close in a couple of minutes, he told me to come in, he would wait for me. He was so incredibly helpful and had all the pieces out that he thought I would need. He even tested my locomotive on his display track I am so impressed and am grateful that this hobby store is here, as so many others have closed. Marin Hobby saved my Christmas! Every time I buy a model I also get to ask a lot of questions and find the right tools and materials to make the build fun. The owner got me hooked and now I can't afford to get all my models here but I like to get the supplies because I can restock with just the right things instead of grasping on Amazon. The guy who opened the shop this morning was not kind. Internet says it opens at 10 on Saturday when it is actually 11. Darn. My son and I sat in the car for a while discussing other options and the guy who was opening showed up. He started shaking his head in disapproval because I was parked in one of the parking spots SPECIFIC to the hobby shop. I rolled down the window to let him know we had gotten there early since we thought he opened at 10 and his reply was,"There's no customer parking back here!" HAHA! No problem. Great little hobby shop with a very personal touch. Gregarious owner who will let you browse to your heats content. He comes preloaded with tons of great advice. It's a small store and has an eclectic mix of old and new larger gage train sets, RC cars, boats, planes, models, model rockets, paints, and more. Ian and Caryn have the best hobby shop in Marin. They are great hosts and have become our great friends. At the hobby shop, they have "PIPING HOT COFFEE" going and sometimes we bring pastries to go with that. Ian is grooming his son - Simon to take over the shop now. Although Simon is only 8, he helps his Dad bring in some business. Simon is so well behaved and is really a wonderful child. John and I feel like part of the family at the hobby shop. This a lovely Hobby shop. I often go here to buy model railroading magazines. They have a great selection of brass trains. I have Purchace a few scratch built models and they run beautifully. The owners are always nice and will give you a deal on things. They have a very good selection of Kato unitrack and Marklin Z scale track. read more
