Our family found it intensely sad when my sister-in-law died from pancreatic cancer. Before she died she said she wanted cremation and burial at sea. With all the grief of mourning, the last thing we wanted was all the hassle of a boat going out from Pier 39 in S.F. with the parking problems and the crowds. I called Captain Todd at Marin Memorials. On arrival, there was a large parking lot with plenty of available spaces near the boat. Captain Ron who was running the boat on our day, and his deck-hand Jim both did an outstanding job in every respect. They were careful for our safety and sensitive to our needs, while offering suggestions for how to make it a more meaningful and proper burial. As an unexpected "plus" the water was calm enough for Captain Ron to suggest we go outside of the gate; so the actual burial was beyond the Golden Gate Bridge. Everyone in our party of 10 was impressed with the great job done by Jim and Captain Ron. The communication to get setup for a boat outing was very easy. We were given very good information in order to setup for travel to the dock and what to expect while out at sea. This is a difficult review to write because it was based on releasing our Mother to the waves. But, we could not have hoped for a better experience. From the booking to the time on the boat, our feelings and needs were treated with great kindness and empathy. We had hoped to go to the Golden Gate but the weather would not allow it and we appreciated the safety considerations to stay in the bay. Captain Kim found a lovely section off Angel Island, a special place for our family, and we were able to say our goodbyes. I have a disabled brother and Captain Kim and Steph (spelling?) treated him with great dignity on helping him on and off the boat. I would be happy to provide a recommendation to anyone in need of these services. We decided to spread my brother's ashes on san francisco bay - he spent many happy years living there. I found marin memorial services on line - looked around and then kept coming back to it as our choice. I am very, very glad we did. It is a larger boat so not as much chance for sea sickness and safer as well. The rear deck of the boat is large with ample seating and good sound system where we played my brothers music. It was simple and "Captain Todd" and his brother were very gracious. We found a "good place" in the bay with views of the city, angel island, alcatraz and the golden gate - my brother and I spread the ashes together. The weather cooperated and the sun broke through and burned off all the overcast for a perfect view of san francisco and the golden gate bridge. After spreading John's ashes we then took a little loop around Alcatraz - where we had spent time with him years before. Could not have gone smoother. From the arrangements made with Todd, to the actual trip with Captain Ron and Kim, we were treated with professionalism, respect and kindness. We had an aging women to board, we were assisted in getting her from the walker to the boat with relative ease. Thought the boat does dual duty as a salmon fisher, it was very clean, only evidence of it's other day job was some tackle secured in the mid cabin. Bathroom was clean and easy to access. It's really easy to get to harbor and the actual boat, it was comfortable enough for all 12 of us and it was just such a great time. Let me tell you, it was the most beautiful day in the bay! We thought we needed a light jacket cause you never know when you're out on the water right? But the sun was out shining and we didn't even wear them! I forget his name, not the captain, but his helper or skipper? was so awesome, he gave us instructions and details on what we'll be expecting when we get to the area that we scatter. I loved that the boat was truly private and felt like ours, they gave us our time to socialize and be together and never bothered us. Initially they gave us the option of Golden Gate Bridge, waters are a bit more choppy or super calm waters by angel island(?) and we went for calmer waters. So glad we did, it was just a beautiful moment for me and my family. My dad would've loved this and would've loved the experience. They took all of the stress off of us during the most difficult and heartbreaking time of our lives. My family was very thankful to have the Blue Runner take us out to scatter my husband's cremains outside the Golden Gate Bridge this past Sunday. Todd booked us and answered my many questions patiently. We arrived at noon at the Clipper Harbor in Sausalito and watched the Blue Runner come into its dock. When we boarded, Jim, the deckhand, and Captain Kim greeted us kindly and made sure to tell our small group about safety procedures and what we could expect to happen on our outing. Beautiful day, beautiful 43' boat, immaculately clean and well maintained and Coast Guard certified, as well as very stable. Captain Kim took us out underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and a short distance north to Kirby Cove, where the water was pretty calm even though the current was running strong. My grandson had made a playlist of my husband's favorite music and Jim helped cable him it into their excellent quality sound system with Bose speakers. When we were ready for our informal ceremony, what my husband wanted, deckhand Jim opened the bag of cremains inside the plastic box and showed me the best spot to stand so I could let the cremains fall into the water. First we scattered flowers and greenery while the Blue Runner stayed stationary and headed into the wind, then made another pass through the flowers so I could put the ashes into the ocean, along with more cut flowers. Our ceremony was lovely and peaceful, just exactly what we all wanted. Captain and crew were considerate and helpful.
