Dr. Smith was very nice as well and he obviously knows his specialty very well, including jaw structure. He's generous with his time and I appreciate the 2-step approach i.e. physical exam them, then a review of all of the info collected before meeting again (includddbin the initial exam fee), so he can share a treatment plan. I'm in my late 60's with a mouth full of crowns and fillings so there's a ton of work I "could" do to make everything "peffect" but I never felt pressured or pushed to "buy". I did a lot of research into Bio/Holistic dentists in Marin/Petaluma and near my home in Roseville/Auburn and chose to drive 4.5 hours RT to see him, and I'm very satisfied with my decision!

However, my most recent visit on December 30th raised some concerns I feel are worth sharing. When I arrived, my hygienist Whitney informed me that a 3D X-ray had been recommended. I believed I had already had one done, and after some investigation -- which required bringing in additional staff -- it was confirmed that the images existed in my records but had not been properly documented or billed. Whitney and Dr. Nguyen was thorough and professional in verifying that the images were indeed mine before proceeding with my exam and cleaning. What I found troubling was what happened at checkout. Without any acknowledgment of the administrative error on their end, the front desk requested an unexpected $500 payment for the X-ray on top of the $300 for my visit. When there is an oversight in record-keeping and billing, patients deserve transparency and a degree of grace -- not an abrupt demand for a large sum they weren't prepared for. I asked to go home and review my own records before paying, which I feel was a reasonable request. I'd also gently note that the front desk experience has consistently lacked warmth. A simple greeting and eye contact go a long way in making patients feel welcome, especially when visiting the dentist can already feel stressful. I hope the practice will consider some customer service training for front desk staff. The clinical team is genuinely skilled -- the patient experience as a whole deserves to match that standard.

I am very grateful to DDS Gabriela Garcia-Rojas for taking the time to accommodate an emergency solution for my lost tooth so that I can continue to work. They were obviously very busy and the fact that they squeezed me in and took such good care of me was deeply appreciated.   The entire team are extremely professional, efficient and kind. From the gentleman Rodrigo Alvarado (treatment coordinator) at reception to DDS Gabriela Garcia-Rojas whom graciously introduced herself and gently discussed my options short and long term, to Karina RDA and Jacqueline whom assisted Gabriella and explained each step and helped me feel relaxed and comfortable. I was thoroughly impressed.   My temporary front tooth is holding up well and I look forward to starting the new patient exam and getting the permanent implant, as well as other aesthetic dental work I will have in the future. I wish I could give 10 stars!

She went above and beyond in every possible way; she came in on her day off to fix his teeth, and called us the evening before her daughter's wedding just to check on how he was doing. Her gestures speak volumes about her dedication and heart. In addition her staff was also exceptional, professional, and caring. Dr. Garcia-Rojas worked closely with three dental specialists on our case to ensure a seamless treatment plan, and her communication throughout the process was outstanding. She took the time to explain every step, answer our questions, and guide us through an overwhelming situation with calm and clarity. Her skill and attention to detail show in the results; our son's teeth look beautiful, far better than we ever imagined after such a traumatic injury. She is truly exceptional, both as a clinician and as a person. We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Call me old fashioned, but I would dread going to the dentist. It's not so much the pain and…read morediscomfort from having one's pearly whites scraped, chiseled, picked and drilled upon - but more the combination of that and having one's purse completely drained at the same time. Dental health costs seem to have entered the stratosphere lately and my insurer has turned benefit-claim denial into a blood sport. What's a smart girl to do? Dental hygiene, maintenance and the occasional repair is something that can't be ignored. For me, doing so immediately summons the Gods of Peril! So there I was, last year, like all those years before, visiting my dentist, in the all-to-familiar position of lying back, fully submitting, sucking it up, and opening my mouth - and purse - wide. And then, while gurgling on a saliva vacuum and attempting to visualize J-Lo and Tay-Tay giving me a private in-home concert (my usual go-to when I'm feeling completely out of control of a situation), I had an epiphany! I realized that if I'm to be paying this months yacht lease for my dentist - then I better freaking well like my dentist! Like a lot! Amiright? And the thing was, I didn't really like my dentist. That's not to say he was a bad dentist - he was good. Possibly very good. It was just that here he was, climbing into my mouth, staring deep past my tonsils, and I kind of felt a bit abused. I felt like I was a number - a line item. A feeling reinforced by him getting my name wrong as he left my chair on the way to another patient in an adjacent room, leaving me to clean up a puddle of drool on my new summer frock. I realized that the whole practice was a bit too 'factory' and devoid of warmth. I realized that it shouldn't have to be this way. So, I made the decision to break up with my dentist of over a decade - and begin the search for someone that I'd feel more comfortable with. Now look, I'm not expecting my dentist to be all chummy, full of smiles, chatter and pleasantries - that too, can easily rub a girl the wrong way. But I do expect my dentist to be empathic to my situation as a patient. I also really appreciate a dentist (and a doctor too, for that matter) to properly explain what's going on as if I were an adult -- a peer -- and not as if I were a nine year old. I tried another dentist here in MV and realized quickly that I had just traded the pan for the fire. I was beginning to wonder if I was the problem. Perhaps expecting too much. Or maybe I was the difficult patient and deserving only of merciless dentists consigning me to a lifetime of countless anxiety-ridden never-ending sessions where my only solace was in counting the perforations on their ceiling tiles as they ground upon me, literally, while I laid back in their articulating chairs. Shudder. But then, thankfully, by chance, I found my way to Frances Yankie. As soon as I entered her practice on Miller Avenue I knew that I'd found the right place. Established on the ground floor of an old Victorian homestead, it felt more like I was sitting in her living room. The other patients in wait were noticeably more at ease in this environ - myself included. The staff were not the usual wooden and stiff animitrons and Stepford Wives that I'd become so used to -- their enthusiasm and friendliness actually felt genuine. And Dr. Frances Yankie herself -- she made it seem as if I were her friend. A friend is not an attribute I was necessarily seeking in a dentist -- but that is how she made me feel. It's hard to explain what a game changer that was for me. My anxieties and dread just vanished. I really felt like I was in good hands. Hands that I could trust. We are all very lucky to live in a zip code that offers best-of-breed in most things -- including dentistry. There's probably not a truly bad dentist here. The value that Dr Frances Yankie offers over and above the other excellent dentists that provide service in our town is hard to quantify. But for me, it's the feeling of ease, an environment that makes me feel safe, heard, appreciated and respected all while knowing that I'm getting excellent dental care -- that's priceless.

I had only had two cavities my whole life. I know it sounds like I misunderstood her, but I had the care estimate when I left. Its a very large practice, so maybe they confused my X rays with someone else's. Or they just were not being honest. I continued to take excellent care of my teeth, and two years later, had no issues with my "9 cavities". I trusted my instinct, had no tooth pain before I saw this dentist, and had no tooth problems in the two years in between that visit and my appt. with Dr. Bauer. When I went into Dr. Bauer and he did a professional assessment of my teeth, miraculously the cavities that I supposedly had ALL went away. Kind of shocking actually that this other dentist would do something like this, and I can't give them the benefit of the doubt. 4k is 4k. This was their estimate for my 9 cavities. In addition to him not trying to fill mystery cavities, he and his staff were professional, and I was in and out in an hour with a basic cleaning, new x-rays, and kept my 2 cavity winning streak. I'll definitely be referring my business and now have a great dentist here in MV. Thanks Dr. Bauer!
